Exactly what new capability does this bring? The ability to switch on lights from the chart plotter? Give me a break. I'll bet it never happens outside of "demos". Exactly how much current does all this junk require? Is he going to buy another solar panel/wind generator to run all this gorp or just let the diesel run longer? A $30 HomeKit light switch gives the same capabilities if you really want a remote but so does two $2 light switches installed near the companionway. Even Mads said that he wasn't going to install the timer function (which could be provided by the $30 HomeKit solution) because it was horrendously expensive. It certainly doesn't add the reliability or maintainability of the boat.

Its amazing to see the attention to detail , professionalism and the highly technical installation of equipment. I have been watching Athena refit videos since the beginning and I'm so pleased you are visiting the UK just a few miles from home. You are watched by so many fellow sailors who have great respect for what you have achieved. I do hope you will be able to visit a few of our lovely harbours, especially on the Isle of Wight. It would be great to meet you and see the boat in real life. It would be good to see you meet up with Cadoha to compare notes as you are now so close. Awesome to learn more about the Czone stuff. As an electrician I installed and wired a number of Lutron lighting relay panels with all sorts of low-voltage wired and wireless switching and stuff. It is amazing what can be done with that hardware.
We usually turn off our NMEA-2K network when not moving to save power. But we are an ultra low-power super-efficient boat where using a couple of amps to run instruments and sensors we arent using and don't need is hurting our battery run times
250w of solar and 200w of wind are all we have -no generator running on dinosaur squeezings and we are rarely plugged-in or at a marina if we can help it.
It seems it is pretty windy in jollie olde Englande. It's blowing like stink in our anchorage in the Chesapeake tonight too.
I hope you guys get everything done that needs to be finished so you can cross the Atlantic next season and start living the life as gypsy cruisers not tied to marinas and boatyards all of the time. When you get there all the work will have been worth it.

Light switch near companionway is a great idea. We enter boat down 3 steps, get torch off nav desk to see the switch panel ( or if we haven't been on board for a while switch on battery first) then over to the galley to turn on the nearest light. Seriously want to upgrade the electric stuff ( nothing fancy like yours) and get plugs installed instead of extension cables.

Interesting how much electronics one can stuff inside a sailboat. But more important (and interesting) before an Atlantic crossing it would be to see optimizing sails and rig. I (for example) would install a nice big gennaker setup and try this out on the water before winter comes - instead staying in the harbour and installing any light switches or so.
