@@LayersOfJenn Sounds like me! LOL. I love your new apartment. Judging from its size, the view, and everything, looks like a win-win. Enjoy your new life!
It's so fun to see you transition from Japan to Taiwan! Taiwan is one of my favorite places to visit ( have a lot of friends there) and planning to go next year! It's an amazing country!
I loved this, it was really interesting kind of coming along with you while settling. Everyone who has moved anywhere knows the "settling" stage and finding your bearings. Loved the haul too I can see why it is easy to gravitate to the familiarity of Japanese products because if you can find them you know what to expect as opposed to risking with something different. I am sure that once you settle and want to try different things you'll take us along for the ride lololol
Something about this video felt so intimate. I'm not sure why, but It felt like I was hanging out with a "real-life" friend rather than someone on UA-cam. Perhaps because we know Jenn already, and she''s going through this major life change right before our eyes.
I FEEL YOU. Taiwan handled covid so well. socializing is normal. going out is normal. i'm so jealous :') i don't even remember what in-person socializing is like anymore :'((((
05:33 I don’t know if you’ve known this by now. But you can save the receipts electronically. You can sign up on an app and just show your own barcode for the store clerks to scan and you don’t even have to pick up paper receipts. For people with bank accounts, they can save their account information on the app. And when they win the lottery, the money will automatically deposit into the bank account.
@@LayersOfJenn If you manually scan in all your receipts into the app, you still need to keep the paper receipts when you win the lottery in order get the winnings. The lottery result is announced every 2 months on the 25th of the following month. (Result of Jan/Feb is announced on 3/25 for example). You can check on your app afterwards. The app will tell you if you win or not for each receipt you've saved. You can also create your own 載具, basically a bar code to let the store clerks scan in order to save your receipts electronically. The process is a little difficult to understand via text. There are YT tutorials but i haven't found any video w English subtitles. The government website is this (in Chinese) for further information.
I totally did the same thing when I moved from Rome to London! I immediately gravitated to the Italian shops and bought Italian goods. I think we just naturally seek familiar things when we’re in unfamiliar environments. Settling is a process that’s difficult to rush through. Dang, that guava looks amazinggg...
There might not be a lot of "action" right now but your vlogs are moving in an alternative way. They are inspiring. You are so strong, kind and have a gift for bringing us along. Thanks for your hard work on these!!
I am so excited for all of the Taiwan vlogs! I started watching your channel for the Japan content but stayed for you, Jen. I wish you and T all the best in your new home. :)
I love seeing what grocery stores have to offer all over the world, that little glimpse you gave us was so interesting. Looks like you got some fun stuff in that haul. Golden Oreos! Salt and Pepper Chips! Green Curry! Green Onion Pancakes..... and that kimchi kit! YUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMM! Excited to see what you find at ikea!
Lovin the new place! Too funny shopping at Nitori and Muji lol Great idea on the receipts thing. How is it living so far in a bigger place? Oh ya...DYSON! love it! Do well Jen and enjoy Taiwan!
Hey. Your last video was amazing on many levels. At 5:54 you showed how beautiful you are. Your effort to learn mandarin shows how intelligent. Your fostering of cats, how empathetic and your eating alone. Not sure what to say about that. Please make a series about your language progression. It will be great.
This is an old video so I’m not sure about the eating alone part. I often eat dinner alone because I eat around 5-5:30pm & my husband gets home a lot later than that. I don’t want to wait since if I eat late, I’ll get a tummy ache when I sleep 😂
Loved seeing all the fun foods and your ideas for organization. I love the idea of putting plants on the shelf and having your own little garden. It will be so nice! The apartment looks really beautiful and I'm looking forward to seeing everything come together.
I definitely know what you mean about settling. As soon as I moved into my non-quarantine flat in NZ the first thing I did was rearrange all the furniture and go to the shops to start decorating 😂Also I love settling/home decor vlogs!! They're not boring at all... they feel quite cozy and it's actually really cool seeing what's available in different countries ❤️
I´m LOVING this journey and seeing you settling in and exploring. Just moved to a new country as well so it kind of feels nice to see someone going thru the same feelings. And yasss girl... the "nesting" feeling is real and going strong. Thanks for sharing!

It's interesting watching you transition & explore new things in Taiwan - even little things like going to the grocery store and comparing prices to that of Japan (that was a cheap watermelon!). Also no, you're not the only one who shaves the peach fuzz off their face - not only is it great for shedding dead skin cells, it also aides in absorption of skin care products. Win win!! Hope your cut finger is healing aok too xx
Japan is in my Brian now lol. For example, when I first moved to Japan I would constantly be changing the prices from yen to Canadian dollar in my head… But now in Taiwan I’m constantly changing the new Taiwan dollar to yen in my head so I can understand how expensive some thing is
Jenn! I am so excited to follow along, I can assure you that those of us here for the long haul don’t find any of your content boring. Tbh I love the grocery store hauls I love seeing what people sell in grocery stores and the prices across the world. Thank you for sharing your life with us!
Wow! Taiwanese apartments are so much more spacious than in Tokyo. We're moving too and I've also had to start learning Mandarin Chinese because there are a lot of Chinese living in our neighbourhood. Even though I'm not moving countries I feel like I am lol. Loving the home decorating ideas. I think that's one of the best ways to feel more settled.
You are lucky to come to Taiwan at the end of September. Otherwise, summer in Taiwan would be a hell for people who grew up outside of the tropics. Except for the weather of summer. Taiwan is a good place. To me, it’s a bit more chaotic than Japan. But at the same time it’s a little less stressful. You can wander around the street in slippers without makeup. The people are also very kind and very open to foreigners.Taiwan is a very relaxed country. You can go to the beach in half an hour. Or go into the mountains for the same half an hour. If you like nature. By the way, you can put egg and cheese or tofu into your Hot Pot. The center of the guava is edible. If you don't like it, it will be faster and safer to scrape off with a spoon than with a knife.
I am SO JEALOUS of your apartment!!!! That SPACE!! AH! One day I'll have to come see you in Taiwan - but I'm so happy for you!!! I'm lowkey freaking out cause this is going to be such an adventure for you
You could get one of those stand alone toilet paper roll holders. It holds like 3 or 4 rolls in the length of it & then 1 at the top sideways for using. Just make sure it's short enough to fit under your sink area (that's the only open area out of the way I noticed in your bathroom to store it.)
I love those frozen green onion pancakes!! You can add egg inside and turn it into Dan Bing (a kind of savory egg crepe thing) that's super common as breakfast food in Taiwan.
Wow love the new apartment! So huge compared to Tokyo! Can't wait to see an apartment tour when you are done sprucing it up which I know will be amazing! Even your balcony is huge! Grocery and apartment haul was fun as to see as well! Can't wait to see more!
I think it's really interesting to be able to see your reaction to Taiwan and its culture from the perspective of someone who's new to Taiwan. Love the vlogs and hope you'll enjoy Taiwan as much as I did! I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but you've stumbled onto an interesting facet of Taiwanese life with the toilet paper holder issue. Taiwanese households tend to use kleenex-style toilet paper rather than the rolls. There's also a strange aversion to throwing toiler paper into the toilet due to a belief that the plumbing in Taiwan cannot handle the paper. It's no longer a problem now, as the city officials like to emphasize every so often, but I guess old habits die hard. If you want to literally spice up your guavas, try guavas with plum powder. It's a pretty traditional combo and the flavor is crazy! You can find them at those fruit stalls you see everywhere. People take their plum powdered guavas very seriously in Taiwan haha. In Tainan/down South, if I remember correctly, there's a famous shop that only sells guavas with their special powder of plums and Chinese liquorice. Good luck in Taiwan and looking forward to all the new vlogs!
Actually I had NOOOOO idea about the whole toilet paper thing haha. I mean when I came in December, the hotel we stayed at told us not to flush the toilet paper and I figured the pipes were not equipped for it in certain areas. But totally makes sense~
I have never commented on your videos, I had found your channel a few weeks ago and really like the last few videos. Looking forward your next video's and congratulations on your new life in Taiwan.
Awe thank you very much!! I’m excited to share with everyone!! Also thank you for commenting~ I know the feeling bc I’m often a silent viewer of my fav channels too 😅
Jenn thanks so much for taking us along with you on your new journey. I just moved back to the US from Japan and I’m itching to get started on my next adventure but don’t have the money yet. So I love watching these videos and having a new adventure vicariously through them 😂 I wish you guys all the best getting settled!
I like how you went out dressed in an outfit that showcased your tattoos! Great video, cant wait to see how you settle into your new home. For your garden, I recommend getting succulents for starters!
Your new place is so big! So much decorating and settling to do, CAN'T WAIT to see what IKEA things you get for this new space...super chuffed for you both! I know you mentioned you won't be working as a teacher anymore and you wanted to consider writing again, do you have any ideas for what you plan to do? All my love!
That apartment looks so nice! Haha I love how you can't escape GU no matter where you go XD I really can't wait to see what kind of cooking you get up to in Taiwan once you're familiar with what's in the stores and everything. Hope you're having an okay time getting settled!
I'm so excited that you've moved to Taiwan! I've lived here for almost 5 years and I think it is a wonderful country! The people are kind, the food is delicious, and travel is easily accessible. Enjoy your time here! Hopefully, you get a new SIM card soon! 🤪
Guavas are even better when they're soft! After you cut them up, put a bit of salt on it and let it sit for 20-30 minutes. The water comes out and it becomes super soft and juicy. Also they're better when it's cold.
You’re doing great 👍🏻 take one day at a time . Change can be scary, but you are super blessed to have T and all of us . I’m happy you’re not alone in all of this even though you may feel that way at times , it’s normal . So just keep pushing through 🌺🌸God bless you and can’t wait for the next vlog .
It looks like you're having an amazing time so far. I am in love with tht closet area. OMG. I love that! 😍 Welcome to gardening! I love it. It's a bit late in the season, but if Taiwan stays hot and humid and your balcony gets a lot of sun you could do cherry tomatoes. I think it's out of season for strawberries, but maybe next year. Good luck on the gardening. Can't wait to see what you grow.
I was about to go to bed when I saw you uploaded, so I had to watch 😁 your new home looks so nice!! Also I definitely do the little razor for peach fuzz, it’s game changer!!
It’s not boring at all. We didn’t have a toilet paper holder in the master bath either, you can get a little stand that has a toilet paper holder on the top if you can’t find a sticky holder.
new subscriber! I was born in Taiwan, and moved to Canada when I was young. Looking forward to seeing home through your eyes. It's definitely weird seeing my cousin in clubs in Taiwan O_O . Hope the covid situation stays under control there!
OMG where to begin!! i thought it was very exciting!! Gardening...ok, you're in Taiwan, I think you could grow anything...they have palm trees for pete's sake ;) You'll be fine. I like the shower...you definitely need some color on the walls or living room...unless you like monochromatic. Onion pancakes...OMG that looks SO good! All the food looked good. And Jenn, no more slicing fingers...
There is usually a Carrefour store near most major areas. It is the French equivalent to Target in the US that they opened in Taiwan. They will deliver if you buy big stuff like bedding, appliances, furniture etc. usually there are all sort of cheap $1ish stores around. Just gotta wander. Yeah I know too hot to wander.
I really enjoyed the chill vibes and loved seeing the home goods and grocery haul. Your apartment looks so big I'm jealous 😫 Can't wait to see your next vlog!
Oh myyyy. This comment is going to be so weird I'M SORRY but I watched Chloe Ting's video in which you are and recognized you right away ---we had japanese classes together in Tokyo ???? You mentionned at the time (like, 2 years ago ?) that you were doing some youtube but never said more. And here you are ! Moving to Taiwan, still being a total awesome person, getting things done and being very inspirational. Congratulations for all of this ! So much hard work ! Thanks for sharing it with us. I'm glad to know you're doing well -we did not know each other very well but it's clear you deserve the absolute best. Gambatte for all that is still to do in this new home !
In Thailand it was so many little Nick- nacks as presents in shops. Collect this plactic bowls set, collect that bags set usually it is ok quality and takes a lot of space)
Your really really lucky don't take your life for granted not saying you are BUT you have an amazing life 😭😭❤ what I would do and give to live and experience all the things you are experiencing; btw the apartment looks fancy loved the ceramic and the closet work.
Its been such a long time since I have commented but I am so happy for u and t and excited to see your new adventures in Taiwan😀. Your new home is beautiful😍
Liked the video! Good to see that you're settling in in your new apartment. That shower head looked real fancy-schmanzy! I'm so jealous.. I don't even have a shower where I live right now.. O_o. It's suboptimal to say the least. Anyway, try to relax and take your time getting the place the way you an T want it. Peace!
What a beautiful home! Omg! Are you loving all the space! Loving the huge refrigerator! Seemed so weird seeing you sitting on a high bed! I’m a dollar store junkie..lol. Do they have them there? You need a toilet paper stand. We have one that holds extra top and there’s a place to set your phone on top.
Love these vlogs; I’m from the Caribbean & was so surprised to see palm trees! Do they have bidet style toilets there like in Japan? Also, your current apartment looks so much bigger than your old one.
One of my toilets has it but, it was a “selling” point for the apartment. Like when you’re looking at listings… A selling feature that realtors will use is “Japanese bidet toilet”
LayersOf_Jenn wow, so maybe not standard. We bought a Japanese toilet seat off Amazon when got back from Japan the first time we traveled there, I wish every toilet had those features.
Loved the vlog ^^ . Moving to a different country can be both exiting and scary... it would be nice if you could share not only the good bits, but also some of the struggles... I moved to a new country a year ago and everybody was telling me how lucky I was, but they didn’t really see the struggles...I’ve to deal all the time with me feeling like I’m being “ungrateful”... the balance is tricky to get!!
It def is!! I’m not ungrateful either is that’s what some people are thinking. Just leaving the life you’re built can be a lot but also, it’s very exciting starting new again!!
How exciting! I'm considering Taiwan as my next move because there's Japanese influence but it's more progressive 👀 Among many other reasons but it was nice to see an insight into your life there ^^ Btw guava seeds are edible (though not necessarily tasty) and I've also heard that Taiwanese fruits are very delicious! Enjoy!
Actually the guava seed part is the sweetest part. I usually eat it when the whole guava go soft. Many Taiwanese cut it out as some Taiwanese can have constipation after eating the seeds, but it never happened to me. I strongly recommend eating with seeds :)

Nope haha. I’m just going to focus on me I suppose
I love the style your new home. Scandinavian + classic vibes. ❤️
That apartment looks so nice! Haha I love how you can't escape GU no matter where you go XD I really can't wait to see what kind of cooking you get up to in Taiwan once you're familiar with what's in the stores and everything. Hope you're having an okay time getting settled!
I was shook when I saw GU 😂
I’m going to go back and buy a few things I think!!
I love how spacious your new place is!
Me too. I’m still in awe 😅😂
I'm so excited that you've moved to Taiwan! I've lived here for almost 5 years and I think it is a wonderful country! The people are kind, the food is delicious, and travel is easily accessible. Enjoy your time here! Hopefully, you get a new SIM card soon! 🤪
Thank you very much :)
Jenn! I thoroughly enjoyed watching this vlog! More grocery/product hauls please!
Your new apartment is gorgeous! You must love all that space ... oh and that shower ❤️
Guavas are even better when they're soft! After you cut them up, put a bit of salt on it and let it sit for 20-30 minutes. The water comes out and it becomes super soft and juicy. Also they're better when it's cold.
I had them both soft & hard... is it weird I prefer them hard and crunchy 😅😅😅
@@LayersOfJenn Haha fair!!😂 locals generally like them harder but I've found my westerner friends to like them softer haha
Ohhhh I have something in common with the locals 😍😍😍😍
I can't wait to watch your videos in Taiwan!! Your place looks so big!!
It’s a lot more spacious than my Japanese place 👌🏻
You’re doing great 👍🏻 take one day at a time . Change can be scary, but you are super blessed to have T and all of us . I’m happy you’re not alone in all of this even though you may feel that way at times , it’s normal . So just keep pushing through 🌺🌸God bless you and can’t wait for the next vlog .
I’m blessed to have T but also.. YALL ARE GIVING ME SO MUCH SUPPORT!! Seriously, i almost never feel alone 😭♥️
Wait.. palm trees !!
Yessss 🙌🏻
It looks like you're having an amazing time so far. I am in love with tht closet area. OMG. I love that! 😍
Welcome to gardening!
It just makes everything smoother (makeup goes on smooth too!)
Omg I can't believe you carried all of that stuff in that bag! Your dinner looked amazing.
I’m used to carrying a loooooot of heavy stuff haha 💪🏻
It’s not boring at all. We didn’t have a toilet paper holder in the master bath either, you can get a little stand that has a toilet paper holder on the top if you can’t find a sticky holder.
So jealous of all your space! This place look as big as the house we just bought! 😲
Really!?!? I’m excited to see what you guys do with your new space!
Girl you got so much space !! So happy for you 2 can’t wait to see a apartment makeover 🥰
Yaaaaa welcome to Taiwan! Hope you live a happy life here!❤️
Thank you!
I love your apartment is amazing and I can't wait for the vlogs. ❤💖
Exciting ones coming~ I just have to settle first ♥️♥️♥️♥️
@@LayersOfJenn definitely I can't wait.
new subscriber! I was born in Taiwan, and moved to Canada when I was young. Looking forward to seeing home through your eyes. It's definitely weird seeing my cousin in clubs in Taiwan O_O . Hope the covid situation stays under control there!
Haha it’s totally different over here. I would say life is *almost* “normal”.
I also hope things can stay under control here too 🙏🏻
gurrl what are you going to do with all that space?! excited to be introduced to Taiwan.
I have no idea yet lol.
I’m still in awe that I have a slight echo when I talk in the room lol
wow your new place looks so big!! I can't wait to see the whole thing done up!
I can’t wait to spruce it up!!
I’ll try not to slice my fingers lol.. sometimes I’m just to careless 😅😭
I have that on my list of places to check out!!
I really enjoyed the chill vibes and loved seeing the home goods and grocery haul. Your apartment looks so big I'm jealous 😫 Can't wait to see your next vlog!
Great video!!! Your new apartment looks much bigger than ur Japan apartment.
It’s much bigger 😭👌🏻
Was excited when I saw this popped in my notifications. Haha! Made my day ❤
Haha yayyyy!!! More hopefully coming soon👌🏻
Really enjoy this series. Gives me great insight for future references. Keep making them ❤️
Omg hahahaha you mean the once a week (weekend) class right that was just short term!?!? & thank you so much!!
@@LayersOfJenn Yes, that one exactly, on Saturday mornings!
Dang the memories !! I wish that course was longer 😭
@@LayersOfJenn The teacher was adorable !! I still have the highlighters they gave us 😂
Hi Jen I am from Taichung hope you have a great life here.
In Thailand it was so many little Nick- nacks as presents in shops. Collect this plactic bowls set, collect that bags set usually it is ok quality and takes a lot of space)
I use those little peach fuzz razors all the time :) Super glad to see you both are settling in well!
Ok I’m not alone then in using them haha. I know it’s popular in japan for people to use them!
Can't wait for the Taiwan vlogs and to see the apartment!!
:)
Your really really lucky don't take your life for granted not saying you are BUT you have an amazing life 😭😭❤ what I would do and give to live and experience all the things you are experiencing; btw the apartment looks fancy loved the ceramic and the closet work.
I’m overall happy with the apartment 😊♥️
Its been such a long time since I have commented but I am so happy for u and t and excited to see your new adventures in Taiwan😀. Your new home is beautiful😍
Thank you!!!! I’m so satisfied with the space of the new place ~
Yay!! Thanks for sharing your home and hauls! Have fun in Taiwan! Can’t wait to watch more videos!!! ❤️
I can’t wait to settle & explore 👌🏻♥️
Your new place is so spacious! Excited to see how you decorate it. Did it come furnished?
It’s kind of normal for furniture to be in the apartment in Taiwan so, some things came with the place!
Peace!
Thank you!!!!
They have daiso here but I’m not sure if and what is a Taiwanese version of a dollar store!!
This was so great!!! Love these videos and really enjoying the ‘fresh’ and new feeling of them; like we’re getting used to this with you. Great job :)
welcome to Taiwan, wish you have many lucky and happy in this country~^^
Thank you :)
Good video 👍 excited to see how things unfold for you, as you guys explore your new surroundings ☺
Thank you~ I’m excited !! We have a 4 day weekend this week so I’m thinking of traveling around !
Your house is so big now! I looveee it
I like guava! But cannot find one in the US... There're lots of delicious and affordable food in Taiwan. Hope you enjoy living in Taiwan!❤️
i like just watching you doing chores tbh HAHAH sprucing up your apt to make it a home is very interesting and fun to watch!
Some ppls say I motivate them to clean lol, I need motivation like that 😂
Lovely apartment! Can’t wait for all the new adventures in Taiwan! 😃
Thank you ☺️❤️
Welcome to Taiwan! Have a good time here!
Thank you!!
Your house is sooooo nice!! I enjoy coming along with you!
I mean it’s worth it 👌🏻 I love Japanese bidets lol
You seemed a little low in the beginning, I hope you are doing okay. The house looks amazing, cheers to new beginnings. ❤️
I’m ok!! I’m usually pretty groggy when I just wake up 😅
Can't wait to see you decorate and style your new home! :D
Enjoy!
Ohhh I didn’t know I could eat the seeds lol
Actually the guava seed part is the sweetest part. I usually eat it when the whole guava go soft. Many Taiwanese cut it out as some Taiwanese can have constipation after eating the seeds, but it never happened to me. I strongly recommend eating with seeds :)
@@LayersOfJenn I love to eat Guava with seeds, it's so sweet and delicious
