Now retired I am returning to the hobby after 12 or more years. I am building the K2/Y as I follow your series to refresh my techniques before tackling the 1/24 Spitfire. So many products I didn't have before. Tamiya extra thin, Mr Surfacer, Mr finisher all superb. Thank you so much . 21 thousand subscribers can't be wrong.
David R Lentz, Columbus, Ohio, USA (Monday, 23 September, 2024) Hello, Nigel. I hope you lot are well. Thank you twice for this post: 1) for showing us the aftermarket sets for the Hong Kong Models 1:32nd-scale kits of the Boeing B-17E/F/G Flying Fortress USAAF four-engine heavy bomber, and 2) for outlining the mistakes HKM made in them. In listening to your report, I so far have compiled this: List of Errors in the Hong Kong Models 1:32nd-scale Boeing B-17E/F/G Bomber Kits: A: The engine cowls’ profile is erroneous B: The engine nacelles are erroneously placed in the wings C: The navigation dome forward of the cockpit windshield is positioned too far forward (round 4 mm) D: The fuselage housing encompassing the flight deck, the radio operator’s station, the dorsal turret, etc., is incorrect (If incomplete, when you have a minute, please add what information you can, please.) BTW: Does HKM include parts to represent the cowl flaps in the closed position? Alternately, do they (or any of the aftermarket sets) include parts to represent the interior side of the cowl flaps in the open closed position? In a kit of a different 1:32nd-scale model, one channeller (to my deep regret and embarrassment, I cannot recall his name or channel) showed in his build video of one of the Tamiya kits of the Chance Vought F4U-1 Corsair USN/USMC/FAA Fighter his scratch-building for each flap: the interior surfacing, a slender actuator of brass rod (round 3-4 mm), and a cylindrical spring (round 4-5 mm in length, and 1 mm in diameter, with two ends about 2 mm long secured to different interior points) set horizontally. I expect that in the B-17’s cowls one would find a similar general arrangement. At 18:50, you mention that in 1:32nd scale, the PE spark plug wiring would look obviously too flat, which I characterise as “false two-dimensionality” (a serious issue with numerous Eduard PE sets; to be fair, I use little else, for I greatly prefer the “nickel-silver” coloration of their brass). I always substitute regular wiring for that purpose, using the PE part to factor the length required for each connexion.
Woukd really be super nice to actually see someone putting together and painting one of the B17 engine upgrade kits maybe Eduard or kit this guy has, can fast forward between sections ya know but I hv screwed two up so far, can’t find any video in anyone assy bling one of these so must be really challenging or folks just can’t do it
Nigel, thank you for getting back to me on where to find the Landcaster damnbuster, i am currently building the Revell b 17-g 1/48 and looking for etched cockpit and seatbelt decals, know where i can start looking for them?
Hello Nigel, great video as always. I have the HK 1/32 B-17G and I am trying to find the BigEd set part one for it, I have the part 2. I know Eduard has stop making it, but I was just wondering if you knew anywhere else I could get my hands on a set.
Not that I know of sorry. I assume they may re-release it as HKM have recently re-released a G haven't they? I guess you could get all the sets individually?
Reviews work. I have responded to many. These big birds though are way too large for me to enjoy displayed. Hanging seems a shame. Unless you had a house that allowed you to see the kit from above also. The scale is grand though. I do have a B-25 in 1/32 scale as it is my favorite aircraft. Technical up the bloody sparf.
It's crazy, it seems like every time a company comes out with these nicely detailed parts. They do a limited run on them and by the time we here about them the company is either out of stock, or they are discontinuing them. This is extremely frustrating Nigel. I'm not big on aircraft models but, if I want to build one down the road, I won't be able to get the nicely detailed parts. Unless I find some on ebay and then I'm going to have to pay some ridiculously exorbitant price for them. Sometimes I feel like, why bother. Sorry just venting. I'm a big fan of B-17s but I've never built one as detailed as the one your building.
In this instance the extras have been around for many years but i was only just showing them off.. I think they will be re-released as HKM have just re-released the kit.
@@NigelsModellingBench I hope so, just in case I want to build one. The B-17 was one of my favorite aircraft during the war. I've built several of them. The first two I built my brother blew up one with a firecracker, my mom pitched one when I joined the navy. The third one I started to build, I pitched because I couldn't get the windows in, and I trashed them when I was trying to get them in. (Finger prints from glue on my fingers, I was using that Testors real thick stuff. Now that I know how Tamiya's liquid cement and micro crystal clear works, I think my next attempt with the B-17 will be much better.)
Looks good. But it looks like you have to cut away a lot of resin to free up the parts. I would be afraid of ruining the parts by my cack handed cutting lol

I haven't forgotten about your request you sent me. We are off work right now until the engineers figure out what to do with the broken wings.

We together shall surmount that summit. (Just as soon as I can tug my right boot out of a metre of snow . . . .)
That Brassin set is exquisite Nige, just a shame that it’s being discontinued.

Thanks for your reply Nigel, I will give hunting them down individually a try.
I luv upgrade sets
Dear Nigel, where or how I can found your previous work on the 1/32 B-17G
Sorry, Alberto, it does not exist.
Will they fit the HK F model?
I would think so yes, the parts are the same in both kits I believe?
