    There is something unique about the Quinacridones. I am such a fan. Quinacridone Gold blows me away every time I use it. Thanks for all the comparisons you do. Sooo helpful! I just discovered your channel - now I am binge-watching ;-)

    The Mayan Red would make a lovely poppy. The qinacridones are really bright, I love 'em.

    I have several of these. I really like the Quin Coral and Quin Lilac. I prefer the WN Potters Pink to DS.

      I agree with you about the Potter's Pink. I bought the W&N because I was so disappointed with the DS.

    DS quinacridone rose just is so much nicer than any other brand. Maybe because it was one of my first colors in the mixing set, but it is a favorite. I also quite like the quinacridone pink. Now let me put my lab coat on….PR170 comes in 3 different crystal forms, depending on how it is manufactured. Only 2 are used commercially as colorants. The gamma form is known as F3RK - it is opaque, and leans yellow., used mainly in coatings and plastics. The beta form is known as F5RK, and is bluer and transparent. Mainly used in inks and coatings. Ok, lab coat off. Thanks for the swatches!

      Agree on the Quin Rose. I pretty much stopped buying DS because of the Primatek thing, but I did replace my tube of Quin Rose!

      Mission Gold's quinacridone rose (they used to call it permanent rose), anyway their pink pv19 is the most beautiful IMO.

    I have the Perelynes here and the PVs 19 and 122. I also bought the PR 177 before I knew how fugitive it is. But alas, all reds seem to have less lightfastness! I completely agree that the DS quns are as strong as it gets, and unlike M. Graham, they are smooth and perfectly transparent. They also have a lovely large selection of colors. I also think the phthalos are extremely strong and very satisfying and probably pretty cost effective because of the high tinting strength. You know I love DaVinci, but I was disappointed recently to realize their phthalos are oddly weak. Most of DaVinci's paints have a more "average" tinting strength, and their quins are totally fine -- but I was let down by the phthalos. Anyway, it's really nice to see all the different red and pink quins swatched out this way. When I did my dotcard, I just swatched right on the card and sometimes that is misleading. Even though I hadn't bought any more DS in a long time, I did replace my tube of PV 19 because I love their hue the best.

    I've collected all of Daniel Smith's quinacridone colors over the years, pretty excessive of me. The Rose is my favorite.

    Oooo so pretty. Thanks for another great video! Their quin rose is my absolute favorite of all the brands. As well as their pr209… and I’ve been eyeing the rose madder permanent for its softness because sometimes I get frustrated trying to perfectly water down the quinacridones lol

    • @JayNathanWatercolor
      @JayNathanWatercolor  2 роки тому

      Ah yes I guess the rose madder is much easier to handle that the quinacridones.

    I like the perylene scarlet. I'm not big on pinkish reds.
    As far as the potter's pink, I have Daniel Smith's, and it doesn't look as "dirty" as the one you swatched. Mine is really pretty and I like to mix it with other colors for the granulation.

    • @everartokelli
      @everartokelli 2 роки тому +2

      Agree on DS Potter's Pink, the more neutral hue is an advantage as it mixes beautifully with other colors cleanly but adds texture and granulation. I love it in skies, landscapes, loose portraits.

      Interesting to hear from people who like the Daniel Smith potter's pink. I guess it would be great for adding texture to other colors without changing the hue too much.

      Sometimes colors change when dried out, this could easily have happened with the PP because it is notoriously hard to rewet

    Dot card or full tube, I've generally found Daniel Smith's Potter's Pink to be pitiful. Not sure how they got this one wrong after so many great hues, but it is, in my opinion, the worst Potter's Pink available. Winsor and Newton is my favorite with Roman Szmal as a close second. Excellent review!

    I bought- and threw away- and entire tube of DS Potter's Pink. it was rock hard, the pigment had separated from the binder in the tube, and was a horrible, dull colour. Exactly as it showed up in your swatching. I use W&N and really enjoy it.

      I too have DS Potters Pink and hate it. It is the ugliest color that I've purchased. Money down the drain. The paint was in perfect condition but I can't think of any way to use that horrible color.

  • @koskey06

    I only see like 3 DISTINCT tones of red here. Orangeish undertone, red with no real undertone, and pinkish red. Small slight variations, but really only need 3 pigments/colors from this selection of reds. Potters pink is the only real outlier. Other than opera pink, but its fugitive so....
