Greetings! Actor Clayton Farris here! I play Clayton in TOGETHER. Thanks for watching , AMA?!
You were really good.
You were fantastic. How do you find motivation for this type of character?
carondelet fantastic question.
@@samyakgangwal8268 thanks! one of my favorite projects ive been involved in.
@@car0ndelet thanks for the question. i had to try and make it as real as possible. for the character , eating people is a necessity to survive so he cant really feel bad. his main need/want is to get the Arielle character on his side. if you just lean into a characters need/want it can carry you through. i also listened to Closer by Nine Ince Nines while filming the flesh eating scenes. music is always helpful when building a character.
Hey everyone! I'm Arielle Hader, I play Julia in "Together." Ask me anything! Happy to answer! And thanks so much for watching, and a big thank you to Alter for having us!
So, did u really feed urself to him?
Loved your acting, and I have to say, you are really beautiful. Now that I have that out of the way, wanted to ask since I couldn't figure out myself, what is the message that this story is trying to tell? and when was this shot?

Why do these short films have better acting than movies tho?

They’ve run out of fresh meat, that’s why anything coming out of the “pedo pen” is just regurgitated childhood memories.
I am Autumn Shea’s dad. She’s the adorable and talented little girl who played young Julia. Thank you to Ryan for giving her this opportunity to star in a brilliant film and to Alter for making it available to a wide audience. This film resonates with me on numerous levels. As a horror fan, it works as a unique take on the zombie genre. However, It speaks to me on a deeply personal level. To me, Clayton’s character was an addict. Like most addicts, he struggles with it mightily. Physically, mentally and emotionally. Julia’s mother was an enabler and encouraged her daughter to be, as well. Like most great art, it is up to the individual watcher, listener, etc. to interpret the piece as they see fit.
Hey Gerald, I remember discussing the themes with you last June after we screened it. You are spot on as far as my intentions go and there's comfort in understanding each other's experience through an artistic medium. Sometimes you got to make something, let it be a film or a piece of music to truly understand your feelings. Autumn is a super talented kid and it's so cool she was a horror fan before "Together," must be that she has cool parents too. I'm so happy that I can share her first role with people around the world.
Very well said.
She did so well your little lady, she has 100x more talent, passion and enthusiasm than half the "professional" (note my sceptical quotations), adult actors/actresses, with high pay, a touch of fame and supposedly lots of experience yet still their do called talent and underserved fame is put to shame by your little lady who Is going to go so far in her life man! I love how proud you are of her, and rightfully so! 💯💯
They only have 4 hours; Julia: lemme use the tiniest tweezers ever to slowly pick up the chunks
Luckily she has Clayton to help her.
Yeah, I know! That was making me nuts!!! :-)

Freshest take on zombies in a long time!
And a compelling human drama, at the same time.
There was a show called iZombie with a very similar take on the Zombie genre.

I was fully invested the entire time. Great story, great acting, great visuals! At first, I thought the ending could've had more to it, but then I watched it a second time and BOOM, everything made sense lol. I didn't realize he said, "Now you call me", because he didn't want to hurt anyone and had just done that. He was trying to be good and knew it was the only way to survive, and that's why he wanted to work for Julia.

Great film!Gory and some what stomach turning. Carrying her Dad's " suicide" with her well into Adulthood, changing the notes greatly amplifies how she doesn't want them to go through the same hurt, giving them some comfort with the newly written notes. A refreshing take on the ghoul genre. Looking forward to a full length feature as I think it was a rather sensitive exploration. The special effects were on target, nice and disgusting. I want to see more on the back story and what will happen next. A great short. Well done 🤩🥳🥳🥳🥳
Thank you so much! My pockets were cleaned out making this but if you campaign hard enough to ALTER maybe we can all get lucky! Hahah. Happy you dug it.
So many parallels to today. Sorry for the novella, this one hit close to home today.
In the quick beginning clip you could see the man’s envy of the couple socially interacting & untouched by stress, anxiety or fear. They are unbothered by illness or suffering. They are happy & enjoying life, time together & an outdoor activity. (Things out of reach to most of us today.) And all of that is stolen from them in a few seconds of defenselessness.
Then you see a girl living as we all are, stressed, exhausted, beaten down & burdened. She answers her call with hesitation, yet also with desperation. Desperate for the contact & interaction. But, moored by dread, knowing it means horrible news for others, even as she benefits. She needs these jobs to survive & support her mother.
Seeing the mother embody the current state of hundreds of thousands, needing help, needing to be fed, unhealthy, & unable to support herself.
Then we see her first employee giving up, literally running away. Today so many are being forced out of work, while others - leaders - are shirking their duties & running away from their responsibilities.
Her need to call in backup, as a last resort, who we instantly see is sick. (Great toilet shot btw, the vulgar display of a common human symptom broke through the screen.)
Cut to the parallel families with a dead or dying family member. All stressed, anxious, rattled, doing their best. Everyone is affected by this. Every home has been turned upside down.
To the new employee, obviously sick, but having to excuse it as ‘allergies’ after her fearful & anxious look/response. Any cough today causes instant looks/isolation/judgment, whether sick or not.
Then seeing the girl’s fear once she understands he is sick. Watching her mentally weigh her options, between the horrible & the terrible. Then her desperation in needing to get the job done, her mourning client approaching.
Cut to the raw hunger and equal humanity in those affected by the illness. They aren’t evil. They are changed by something outside of their control. Forever affected & weighed down by the burden of knowing they must walk a balance between the living & the dead, belonging to both yet neither.
To then understand the mother is haunted not by disease, but by sacrifice. The sacrifice of mercy, mercy for a husband & for a child. To see the mother become animated & ‘return to the world of the living’ through speech & story. Trying to persuade her daughter to not play god, even for mercy’s sake.
Watching both mother & employee beg her. The mother & the newly reborn ‘babe’. One coming off dependency & one just entering it, both reliant on her alone. Seeing that was just heartbreaking.
To then hear the ringtone that again brings hesitation and desperation. Repeating the cycle. Death. Survival. Despair. Hope. Sustenance. The potential for reformation for the mother, the ability to change the past by making a different decision for the newly diseased. Yet still feeling the weight of all that she carries. How vital the daughter is to this world where her unique skills are suddenly highly valued. (Our essential workers.)
And to know that next job & the next, will ‘feed’ all three of them, all in different ways.
And a final reminder of the first man. The wild, unstoppable force of nature we must respect.
Not to mention the letters, her own journey of playing with mercy. And so much more.
Very well done. Thank you.
Thank you for supplying very good content during this time. Navigating the newly unbalanced world of entertainment in an era of physical distance & offering satiety to in our need for emotional sustenance.
Hope you are all doing well & staying safe & healthy. Have a great day. Blessed be.
Thank you for your thoughtful, beautiful comment. Your analysis and parallels you found between the film and today's world is quite staggering to read. I definitely see the connections. I hope in some way you found comfort in it that you're not alone, people are feeling similar things and maybe even some catharsis. The film is very personal to me too and there was no Covid obviously in November 2018 when we shot it. What I was dealing with was addressing the uncomfortable truths about untreated trauma and how that could manifest as a vicious cycle of addiction, immoral behavior and co-dependent relationships that literally feed off of each other. Love you interpretation and the discoveries you made. It helped me look at the film differently.
Ryan Oksenberg - Thank you for your lovely comment. It’s wonderful to see how a film’s perceived context can change to adapt to the viewer and the current day challenges. Film is a beautiful thing. Thank you for sharing your work with us via Alter. Have a great weekend. Blessed be.

The best short I have seen in quite some time... hands down!
That was a great film! Such great acting and a fresh take on the zombie genre. I've been watching these short films by Alter and they're better than most feature films.
So, I typed out "People can be animals, I guess", but waited until the end of the film, (because I can never bring myself to comment before the end), and then it came back! That clinched it for me! While admittedly the piece as a whole wasn't my go-to cup of tea, that line was poignant as heck, and I'm glad it was the call-back. Imo a great, (and ALTERed), film overall, and thanks to all involved for putting it out there! We appreciate ya! 🖤
K U I love your comment since I was debating this line in the writing phase. Please share why it resonated so much for you.
@@Oksenberg First can I say I have thought a lot on your film, including a second watch, since my first viewing last night, and it has only grown stronger for me. I saw in another comment that you interviewed biohazard/forensic cleanup professionals while writing, and that assuredly shows through in your piece. I don't want to say it is an "unsung" or "thankless" profession, but perhaps one that goes unnoticed or underappreciated sometimes, as obviously a family in need of such a service has other things on their minds...and your film both pays homage to this (in an ALTERed way of course 😉), and takes it in a wildly imaginative direction. Kudos to you sir! Regarding the "People can be animals" line...I couldn't at first put my finger on exactly why it resonated with me, but I think that's why it did. If that makes sense at all. I felt it clear to be a foreshadowing tool for events to come, but when they turned out differently than I expected them to, it added "magic" to the line. And then, as I said earlier, the call-back with the mother repeating the words and the pour soul coming back to what he hoped to be a continued food source....*muah!* Magnifico! Sorry for the essay, I can be long winded! And thank you kindly for sharing your art!
@@Oksenberg And I think it plays with the idea of animals being able to be ruthless and savage, but also just being driven to survive and stay nourished......the former is what I expected at first, a brutal zombie attack for fear and gore factor...the latter is what ended up happening, a unfeigned arc of just another animal searching for sustenance....and on top of it, us living people can fall in to the same categories as well. A full circle metaphor! Please forgive me if I'm being naively obvious (probably the case), or worse, butchering your intentions...I am not a writer, film maker, or a well-versed critic of either art form! 🙂 Stay well.
"Cleaning, disinfecting ,deoderising... whatever you need, I can do it. I'll even dispose of the waste" BRRRRRT😖💨
