I recently had a bout with fungus gnats. I had to throw out all the potting soil my plants were planted in, then repot. The plants in leca I just changed out the water, cleaned my drains with baking soda and hot vinegar and was done. So much cheaper and easier than days of repotting like with soil. Two months later I'm seeing fungus gnats outside and inside again. I've never had them before. What is up with the gnats?! They def like soil!
Okay, I will need to repot a big Amazonica alocasia in the close future. I just put some "dead" parts to a pot in soil 2 years ago, and now the pot is full of amazonicas and the soil looks very overused, so I'll seperate them to at least 3 pots and this time I'll try the leca! 😊
I love your videos & I have learned so much from you! Thank you! How do you flush the LECA? How do you know when to sterilize it? How do you sterilize LECA?
I recently ordered leca to try to save a money tree whose been with me over 10 years and now it's struggling to survive. I'm crossing my fingers and praying that this works.
When you buy your leca all you need to do is fill a colander with leca balls, rinse outside with a hose til water runs clear...just a minute...then soak the colander full of beads in a bigger bowl (I got mine from a dollar store) of clean water for 48 hours. I leave the colander right in the bigger bowl of water with the leca sitting right in it. Strain the water out and let dry in the sun for 24 hours. They are then ready to use. If you've already used them in a plant, its recommended to boil the beads for 40 seconds, strain, let dry and store with all your other dry and cleaned leca beads either in a sealed ziploc bag or a food storage container that has a lid. Easy.
Thank you for sharing I love to watch your video and learn more about Leca please tell me what solution you put in the water you are such an amazing person I love your plans lovely collection Happy Valentines to you and your family
Nora how old has the plant got to be to go in Leca ? I have around 6 baby plants that are growing fast . Now a few are alocasia ! I would like to transfer these into lecca .
Hi! Only discovered your IG and YT last night and I'm on a serious binge! Quick one, where do you get your leca from? I'm also in OZ and I'm not scared of paying for shipping. Thank you!
Hello fellow Aussie. Thank you for watching and subscribing. Much appreciated 🙏. I get my brown leca from local hydroponics shops. My Italian leca is another subject altogether. All I will say is watch this space. I have something in the works for all leca lovers
Is it for all plants then (not starting big), even angel wings or Venus ply trap? But as long as it's indoor? So when you say reservoir it's just a pot that you fill bottom with water like an inch? Thanks
For most plants yes, some even put leca plants outdoors. The reservoir is what contains the nutrient solution, not water. I always use nutrients or fertilisers for my plants in leca.
Can you use MIRICLE GROW to fertilize instead of all the other products I've seen mentioned in other like videos?? I have 20 plus soil plants that I want to transplant to leca. Do you do the same method for a jade and a small bonsai tree? Thanks for the answer.😊
You need to put the nutrient solution below the level of the roots as I show. In that way the roots are actually not in touch with the solution. As the water roots develop as get longer, they are able to tolerate the solution so root rot is not really an issue. If done right that is.

Yes. It's easy to bring a cutting that you rooted in water into leca though as it's used to the water. Leca can be expensive over common soil mix, however if you're seen people who make custom mixes for aroids you'll find those can become just as or more expensive than using leca. The advantages to leca outweight the cost though as it's 100% washable and reuseable which soil isn't. So in the long run leca can be cheaper to invest in however some plants will not transfer into leca (like calathea) so find out what plants don't mind a bit of extra water.
Thank you for watching and subscribing. I actually don't know what brand of brown leca I use. I think it is the Canna one. The dark leca is an Italian leca.
Thank you for your kind words and for watching and subscribing, much appreciated! I do not live in an apartment but using leca can work in any living space and in any environment. You just have to suit your environment to what the plant would have in nature. I think Florida would be a great place to have plants in leca. You can always try one or two to see how you go.
I can't remember the brand name but I get my Italian Leca from a special supplier that do not sell retail here in Australia. Watch out for a special announcement from me soon.
Just started looking at your videos, LOVE them! I'm from North Carolina in the United States and can't find Leca here! Can you help me to locate some and find out if it can be shipped to the US? Thank you!
Thank you for your kind words and for watching and subscribing, much appreciated! There would be plenty of leca in hydroponics shops near you. I think Ikea in the US also sells leca. Let me know how you get on with your search.
Is this system ideal for only indoor use? I have a balcony container garden🪴, and I am concerned that transitioning my plants to LECA outdoors would lead to mosquitoes 🦟 laying eggs in the standing water of the water reservoirs.
It can work outdoors. You just need to manage the reservoir. Maybe use self-watering pots that don't give access to the reservoir so insects can't get in.
Hi Nora, how do you get your peace lilly not to have any yellow tips? I've tried everything, but can't get rid of those yellow tips! Thank you for another great video. I have both types of leca. I didn't like the Italian because of the way that it looks, but I think now I will give it s try 😉
Thanks for the comment. I know what you mean about the tips! I do not have such a big problem now that my lilies are in leca. There can still be small black ones and my cure for that is a trusty snip with the scissors if I am sure everything else is fine. Which for a plant living in leca almost always is.
Thank you for your kind words and for watching and subscribing, much appreciated! Italian leca is made in Italy from an Italian clay. It works the same as other leca.
LOL, BEFORE THIS VIDEO, I DID NOT KNOW WHAT LECA WAS, I THOUGHT YOU WERE SAYING LIQUIOR. YOUR PLANTS ARE BEAUTIFUL, WOW, I HAVE LEARNED ALOT ABOUT MOSS POLES ETC..
There are lots of different kinds of brick soI really want to say no. The manufacturing process is different. Lcea balls are made by putting clay in a rotary kiln and firing that up to a high temperature while the kiln is rotating.
It most certainly can. All you need is a setup and away you go! You have given me a wonderful idea and I will do this in a coming video to demonstrate.
Excellent introduction to leca😌👌🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟I'm going to try it now

Good evening just started my Leica journey. Your plants look so health. E what nutrient do you use and what fertilizer for those in soil?
All excellent points! LECA is airy. LECA is beautiful. LECA is reusable. And LECA is a LOT less messy!
Thank you 😊 💓
Lovely plant 🪴 babies. Where do you get your clear pots? Thank you
Local store called Bunnings here in Australia

Hydroponics stores and Bunnings will stock them! Sold as clay pebbles, Canna is a common brand
I’m in the US & Ikea sells leca in the garden section.

You can buy bags of LECA at Ikea or hydroponics store
Ikea sells large bags for under $7.

can you use leca with aloe and catus?
Hi Nora found you a few weeks ago and subscribed. Please can you explain what Italian LECA? Thank you
Thank you for your kind words and for watching and subscribing, much appreciated! Italian leca is made in Italy from an Italian clay. It works the same as other leca.
@@TheLecaQueen thank you for your quick response. Will try to see where I can get it in the UK. Btw I really enjoy your video contents. 🤗 💛
Where do you recommend getting the "Italian" LECA?
New subbie Alert 📢. Thanks for explaining this! I will be joining you in semi-hydron land😍🤎
Welcome aboard! Can't wait to do sem hydro with you! Letus journey together.
How submerged should a plant be in the water when using leca?
Hi Nora.
I'm sure it's an over sight on my part but I can not locate the actual links to purchase the leca, the nutrition and the cache ?
Hello, not an oversight at all. Check out this video for links to products.

Where can I purchase Italian leca?
How often do you have to change the water?
I'm coming to join ya!
That cracked me up! Elizabeth!!!
Can plants be bottom watered or water from the top.
Either or.
Do you recommend the Italian Leca over the red clay Leca?
It is a personal preference and I do prefer the Italian one. I do use the red one as well. Theyare both clay.
Please tell me how much water did u have in this reservoir or the white pot u just left the plant from please tell me sister thank u
Hello, check out my leca basics video here. That shows what levels I use.
ua-cam.com/video/CMQ2Q2K35ns/v-deo.html
How to add nutrients
I am going to start using leca but I can't get the nutrients to buy in the United States 😫
I know there is a big semi hydro commuity in the US. I guess it might be worth finding out what they use.
Have you looked on Amazon. Also anywhere that sell fish should have it for growing living plants in aquariums
How do you fertilized?
Check out this leca basics video I have made:
I am also doing a series on semi hydro so don't miss it.

I have never seen Levi n store (USA,N. C)
You will find leca in some good nurseries and hydroponics shops and online.
Is Leica same as brick?
There are lots of different kinds of brick soI really want to say no. The manufacturing process is different. Lcea balls are made by putting clay in a rotary kiln and firing that up to a high temperature while the kiln is rotating.
My huge peace lily is going to be my leca guinea pig
Can LECA be used with hanging pots?

@@TheLecaQueen thanks! I was wondering about that as well.
I am looking forward to it. 😊

I don't see why not. I think if ZZ plants can thrive so can cactus. I have never tried it. Might try just to see.
