Also a good tip for your plant inside the decorative pots. The inner pot make a hole either side at the top of the pot and put a looped cable tie in each one and it acts like handles to easily pull them out of the pots :)
Thank you so much!!! Because of you, I’ve just transferred 10 of my plants from soil to LECA, October 09, 2024 with no problems and little worry., I have a Calathea ordofolia and haven’t done that yet, cause they are so temper mental , but I’m hoping it works goes well, and I use the CCS and Foilage focus because of You., once again Thank you ❤
Most videos on this topic leave me with many questions but you have anticipated and answered every one! Your knowledge is expert-level and just as important, you are very good at carefully explaining it all, from beginning, to end, to future!! Thank you so much for this, I now feel finally ready to transition plants to leca!!
Love all your videos Nora. You are my favorite plant lady. 😍😍😍😍😍 These leca and foliage focus companies should sponsor you and make you the spokesperson for their products.
Thank you for this, I had been wondering why people said keep the water below the roots as it was clear the roots would eventually grow down into the water., now I understand the roots growing down are water roots and not affected. Love your videos.❤
Hi Nora, love your videos. I've started my leca journey and was wondering whether it is normal for the top layer of leca to be dry? Or should they be wet too?
Thank you for this video it was very informative. I use Leca and bark for my orchids and I use almost the same set up as you, but I use the other pot for humidity. I don’t keep excess solution in the bottom except what extra drips from the orchids after I soak them, but I was always having a issue with algae. Have the dirty water filter through the coffee filter. This will help keep the vast majority of it out of your plumbing.
I find going straight from soil to leca works really well.and those roots change to water roots. It's moving from leca to soil that is harder as the plant has water roots and has to slowley acclimatise to soil so it has to stay moist and not aloud to dry out for a bit bit without causing root rot at the same time which can sometimes be difficult.
Nora firstly thank you so much for all of your informative and easy to watch videos on how to grow plants in Leca! ❤ I've watched the number of them now and just today embarked on transferring my first plant (a Peace Lily) from soil to Leca. But help! My Peace Lily turned out to be five plants & I only have enough leca prepared for two! Will the other plants be okay in water for 24 hours while I prepare more leca?
Thanks 😊 can't wait to start my leca journey. Buying up all my stuff 'can't seem to get my hands on the growth technology nutrients here in the U S but not giving up " can't wait for next video!!!!
Hi Pauline, there is a guy I follow on Instagram that is in the US that has the growth technology nutrients. I’ll se if I can put the link to his page here. (Is it ok to do that please Nora?)
I would love to get some growth technology as well. Was in touch with a nursery in Australia but the shipping is so expensive around 75-120 to ship not including the cost of $23 a bottle for the growth tech nutrient. Please give me information about the guy also. Thank you for your help.
Of course it is ok. This is a space for all to learn and share. I also have a link to a store in Canada that stocks GT (Growth Technology) products shown on my Community tab.
thank you sooo much for your videos... you are amazing I have a question.. in my country it's too hard to find liquid fertilizer... can I use the NPK solution instead?
If you don't want to burn and kill the plant, you have to use fertilizer suitable for hydroponics. The other fertilizers are designed to be used in conventional substrate.
Thanks Nora, for another amazing video. Just a quick question, the nutrients solution that you're using at this stage (in the pot), is it the CCS or the foliage focus? Thank you
@@TheLecaQueen Hello TLQ. Are you using CCS as instructed on the label on back of the bottle? One or two teaspoons per quart? Then, after cleaning the leca with water, are you also soaking the leca in this prescribed solution? And are you also re-using this solution (that you soaked the leca in) to fill the container or do you start with fresh solution?
🪴 Nora, thank you very much for all of your detailed information. I am just starting out with LECA and I will be washing it and soaking it this weekend. I will look at your other videos to see if you have a tutorial on how often the nutritient water has to be changed after the roots are established.
Thank you very much for this well detailed video. I have over 40+ indoor plants, I do have some small plants, but more so bigger plants. Therefore, my question is, can I do the same transfer technique from soil to leca for the big plants, too? Thank you!
Hi Nora, I absolutely love your videos and have been dabbling in leca, but only with cuttings that have rooted in water. I killed a few plants when transitioning them to leca because of root rot. How do you get all the soil off? Do you check later if the plant has rotting roots?
wow, it's so helpful! Can I know if you have ever experienced any transition shock? Since I just repot my green velvet to leca, and he has been depressed for over 7 days.... I have mentally prepared that I might lose all leaves, but I still want to know if there is anything I can do to help my green velvet. Now I'm a bit stressed to put my another two alocasia to pon because it's so painful to see plants get so droopy and look like dying off.
thank you for this video, straight forward and clear. i wanted to ask you in regards to using foliage focus during winter and such (colder seasons) do you continue to use it weekly (as it mention on the bottle) or do you stop and only offer your plant nutrients during summer spring thank you i hope you can reply to this x
Thanks for your lovely comment. I always feed my plants regardless of the season. They are indoors and still growing they always need food. That is one of the indoor plant myths that has been perpetuated over the years that I feel might not be the best for our plants. Happy growing.
Thank you for your kind words and for watching and subscribing, much appreciated! Yes, my big Orbifoliais in leca as well. My aim is to grow all my plants in leca.
Thank you for this informative video! I didn’t understand when to throw out the solution and replace it with the fresh one. You mentioned to do that one/twice on the forthnight. I have no idea what is this mean 😭.
Your video was so helpful! I have been wanting to swap to Leca for a while and have been worried about how to do it but this video really helped. I did have a question regarding keeping the top layer moist as I’ve got quite a warm house in summer (Aussie summer is brutal) and the bottom layer is nice and moist but the top layer is just drying up in the heat. How do I maintain the moisture for the top layer?

I have another question 😊 I have purchased two bags of leca, can I soak them all at once and then store for use later on or is it best to soak just before use. Thank you
You can wash your leca and store it. I would recommend soaking it for when you need to use it and not having litres of leca having been soaking for weeks on end. I would imagine bacteria and other nasties might start growing on it and affect your plants.
I love your content, but i am hard of hearing, because i hear a lot of echo Do you think that you maybe would sound better with a mic. Just a thought. keep up the great work
I am sorry about that. You will be happy to learn that my new videos have me using a mic now so hopefully sounds alot better for you. I needed to see if there was interest before investing in gear if that makes sense. Happy to have you on board!
I live in Australia and love your videos. I would like to try using Leca instead of soil. I don’t want to buy the semi Hydrophonic kit but prefer to buy the Leca, the nutrient n the cloned solution separately, Where can I get them? Where can I get the Leca pebbles in bigger amount? I would need much more Leca because a lot of my plants are already a bit bigger in size. I had a look in Bunnings but I don’t think they have them.. Also, I went to Office Work this morning and asked them about the plastic scrap you mentioned in one of your other videos but they said they didn’t have them, never heard of them. If they did maybe long long time ago, they said. When did you get the free plastic scrap from Office Work?
Hello, thank you for watching. Some Office Works shops have the proper sheets but it seems most do not. I get mine from Amazon. I will give you the link. The scarps I was referring are the scraps from when they laminate documents and stuff like that. I suggest you get your leca from a hydroponics shop. In most cases if you buy a small bag it ends up costing a lot more than buying the 50L bag. Some hydroponics shops would have the nutrients as well, if not you can get them online. ✅ FULL RECOMMENDED LIST OF PRODUCTS: 👉 kit.co/thelecaqueen
Do you think it’s better to buy plants that are medium size-like 6” pots for best transition from soil to leca? Or 4”? What is big enough to be well enough established but not so big as to be too acclimated to soil?
I think it really depends on the plant and the state of the roots. I think that is what the real issue is. I transitioned small African Violets and peperomia and the smallest ones did not do well. Same sized Hoyas have no issues. So I would say if the roots are robust enough the plant will survive. But if small this roots like peperomia, I would get a bigger plant with a more established root system.
Thank you! This is very helpful! I'm wondering if you can tell me... in another video you mentioned occasionally placing a plant in the water solution for a couple or a few weeks instead of to going from soil straight to leca as a precaution for the roots to prepare. But here I understand you saying that this will kill the roots if they are in the water solution. I'm confused. Can you clarify for me (as I just put a lovely Polly into water to transition to leca and now I'm doubting myself.) Thank you again.
Hello Darla, I am sorry if I have confused you. I use what I like to call the long method where I place a plant in a rooting solution before transferring to leca. Please check out this video for some clarity. Thank you. ua-cam.com/video/sNYrPB2GSgI/v-deo.html
Hi Nora, I’m located in the states and I’m having a hard time finding the Italian Leca, can you recommend somewhere I may be able to order it in the US? And also I can’t seem to find the nutrient solution you mention . I want to try this route of growing and just not sure where to get the items you mention. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I’m loving all your information so far thank you so much!
Thank you for your kind words and for watching and subscribing, much appreciated! The nutrient is not readily available in the US. Growth Technology Australia is working really hard to get it to you. Check out my Community tab for a plea to help me get it to the US. I need you guys to lobby your stores to order it by the pellet load so it can be competitively priced for you. As for the leca in the US, I do not know sorry. I am looking into it.
Plz guide, how to grow Zeezee cuttings in leca water! Plz. I recently kept ten cuttings in leca water, Bt few got rotted from bottom, then I did a cut to rot area of stem & again kept in simple water.
Where do you get your beautiful plant label holders? I looked at your product page but didn't see them (My apologies if you've answered this before, I'm new to your channel).
Dear Nora, I feel so blessed that I have found you... Could I please ask you: would it be alright to use PUMICE instead of LECA? And if so, would I have to change smth in terms of potting, watering or fertilizing? And that is because pumice is so cheap in my country (Hellas). Dear plant people, any insight would be valuable. THANKS A LOT!
@@TheLecaQueen Hi again, dear Nora. One more thing please: I have read that it is good to add some ZEOLITE to the pumice in order to increase its ability to absorb nutrients. Do you think that would be a good practice and also compatible with the Growth Technology products you use and suggest? I really appreciate all you offer to us. Thanks again!!!
I’m planning to start by transferring one of my pothos which is now in soil. From your video, I know what to do with the soil roots. Now my pothos has several long aerial roots, should I cut these off? Thank you!
No. When I do get root rot itis because I put too much nutrient solution in the reservoir and drowned the roots for some plants but root rot is not a problem.
I have one concern with growing plants in leca- does standing water in cashepots attract mosquitoes? We've been plagued this year, and I don't want to make it worse :(((
That is a tough question. It is likeasking me how long is a piece of string. Thereare too many variables that will influence my answer. This needs a more in depth conversation. Check out this post that will show why plants like that need a steady hand. Having saidthat, my Thai is thriving in leca. instagram.com/p/Cax3DVOBcVB/? instagram.com/p/CZFwr9Yh96q/?
I use the brownish reddish leca.. I’ve seen some leca you use look slightly different are they any better if so why and again where do u get them from👍🏿 thanks in advance
really the more and more i see about leca the more i really want leca. Basicly everything i ''dislike'' on being a plant parent has to do with soil. soil usage indoor is a huge mess, repotting is a pain in the butt and an even bigger mess. its also really heavy to transport all that new soil all the time instead of just reusing leca. got some pest? well repott again and use some new soil and make a huge mess again. and you also cant just use soil... you kind of have to make a huge science out of it by creating fancy soil mixes using like 10 different ingredients and ...storing 10 bags of ingredients in your house and... i dont know. the more and more i think about it, the more i come to the conclusion: soil is just made for outdoor plants, living in actual soil in your garden and alike. i m so tired of cleaning the entire house all the time just because i need to repot a plant or 2. in return, that makes me not wanna repot it because i know i have to clean the entire house afterwards and its just... jikes i m pretty damn sure, i will just buy a huge bag of leca soon, and order some fertilizer and then just stop buying soil and slowly transition everything to leca.
Thank you for this. You've provided THE best example of moving hoyas from soil to leca .

Yes it is. Please watch this video for a more detailed explanation: ua-cam.com/video/7NEI4GNMSU4/v-deo.html
@@TheLecaQueen Thank you!
Dang those were nice roots!
Do you water from the top for a while or no?
Very informative video! Do you use 5mL of Foliage Focus per 1L of water, or is it more diluted?
Thank you. 5ml per litre yes. That is what I use.
@@TheLecaQueen Wonderful, thank you!
Where do you get your beautiful plant label holders? I looked at your product page but didn't see them (My apologies if you've answered this before, I'm new to your channel).
Which ones? Are you referring to the ones with the Hoya names and flowers or the white ones I write on or put printed labels on?
@@TheLecaQueen The ones with the photos and name on the front that look like a lattice 😊
@@geekgirlD those come with the plants.
Hello!!! Yes you can use pumice. People make all kinds of mixes for semi hydro, whatever you can get
@@TheLecaQueen 🌹🌹🌹Thank you so much...
Thank you for sharing!
Can all Hoyas be transferred to LECA? What about the hoya
pachyclada?
Thank you!
You are welcome. I don't see why that Hoya can not thrive in leca. If I had it I would put it in leca.
Thank you!
I’m planning to start by transferring one of my pothos which is now in soil. From your video, I know what to do with the soil roots. Now my pothos has several long aerial roots, should I cut these off? Thank you!
do you get root rot with the standing in un aerated nutrients (air pumps ) ?
No. When I do get root rot itis because I put too much nutrient solution in the reservoir and drowned the roots for some plants but root rot is not a problem.
Should i not prop the roots by placing the plant in water for 2 weeks before i move it to Leca ? I’m very stressed to kill my plants. Please help.
I have one concern with growing plants in leca- does standing water in cashepots attract mosquitoes? We've been plagued this year, and I don't want to make it worse :(((
You probably wont see this, but if you cover your outside pot with tape, how do you know where to fill it to?
will miracle grow added to the leca do the same ?? what about fish fertilizer or other additive work? Have a great leca day YOUR HIGHNESS :)
Can I use The special sauce that I soak my leca in ?
Hi leca queen do you recommend my monstera Thai constellation going to leca plz 😊
That is a tough question. It is likeasking me how long is a piece of string. Thereare too many variables that will influence my answer. This needs a more in depth conversation. Check out this post that will show why plants like that need a steady hand. Having saidthat, my Thai is thriving in leca.

Q. Do you dilute the solution with water when you soak or do you soak the leca with the solution on it's own?
I dilute as recommended on the bottle then soak the leca in it.
Hi Nora can you show us how to get the ph right
Sure checkout where I do this here:

Where do you get your Italian leca?
Hey Nora.. where do u get this leca from?
Thank you for your kind words and for watching and subscribing, much appreciated! I get leca from hydroponics shops. Which leca do you mean?
I use the brownish reddish leca.. I’ve seen some leca you use look slightly different are they any better if so why and again where do u get them from👍🏿 thanks in advance
lol "displacement" - I was just making a jar mayo with stick blender, and I had to repeat to my self not to overfill the jar with eureka
🤣🤣🤣I paid too much attention in science class.
Watched at 1.5 speed :)
All Hoyas can be moved to semi-hydro ?
I think so yes. I have over 70 in leca.
Clean the roots in water. Soil falls away easily.
What type of nutrients do you use. You showed us but never shared the name. Ty
Growth Technology Foliage Focus
Do you use any insecticide with Leca?
When I need to yes.
Hello Iam having trouble understanding what is the nutrition that your using feeding the plants can you please help me with this?
It is Growth Technology Foliage Focus. Check out my Community tab for more details on it.
Do you buy your LECA in bulk?
Yes I do. I generally buy the 50L bag.
really the more and more i see about leca the more i really want leca. Basicly everything i ''dislike'' on being a plant parent has to do with soil. soil usage indoor is a huge mess, repotting is a pain in the butt and an even bigger mess. its also really heavy to transport all that new soil all the time instead of just reusing leca. got some pest? well repott again and use some new soil and make a huge mess again. and you also cant just use soil... you kind of have to make a huge science out of it by creating fancy soil mixes using like 10 different ingredients and ...storing 10 bags of ingredients in your house and... i dont know.
the more and more i think about it, the more i come to the conclusion: soil is just made for outdoor plants, living in actual soil in your garden and alike.
i m so tired of cleaning the entire house all the time just because i need to repot a plant or 2. in return, that makes me not wanna repot it because i know i have to clean the entire house afterwards and its just... jikes
i m pretty damn sure, i will just buy a huge bag of leca soon, and order some fertilizer and then just stop buying soil and slowly transition everything to leca.
This comment is EVERYTHING!!! it really made my day. You so eloquently described what I tell people everyday...soil, never again for me!
Why not just soak the dirt off.
You can do that, I just don't have the time to wait so I prefer to do it this way.
it's so weird that you use "organic matter" and "soil" interchangeably
Hard to be 100% consistent when not using a script. I hope it did not take away from the message for you.
Hey Queen, can I transition my desert rose to leca, please 🙏 🌹
I’m a huge fan and have 99% of my plants in leca🎉.
