What a fun car! My mom had that car in the 80s, she loved it. She watched this and said not much has changed! Small, manual top, manual transmission, small engine, fun! Her's didn't have seat belts or a/c
Neat one, Sofyan! The 124Spider seems like a pretty neat vehicle. I personally find a lot of interest in this vehicle. I favor the more sophisticated/mature looks of this vehicle. Over the Mazda's more youthful design. Overall, both vehicles seem to perform pretty well. From one car reviewer to another, keep it up!
I own a 3006 Mazda Miata and a 1980 Fiat Spider. The new Fiat 124 Spider sure reminds me of my 1980 Fiat and I do like the style better than the new Miata. Thank god that it is built by Mazda and uses the Mazda transmission. I never had any problems with the Fiat engine but the electrics and synchros and the build quality on the 1980 Fiat Spider were pure crap. My 2006 MX-5 Mazda Miata, on the other hand, is waterproof and bulletproof. I will test drive one this summer but my Miata is still so much fun that I doubt that I will trade it for the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider. Love my Miata!!
Nice review, but a few errors. The ND does not have a "Skyactiv" AT6; it uses the same Aisin AT6 as the 124, but with a Sport mode and paddle shifters in all ND trim levels. The non-Abarth FIAT 124 trims do not have a mechanical LSD, but they do have an e-LSD (brake-induced electronic limited slip).
after WATCHING AND STUDYING ALL OF THE VIDEOS AND SEEING A 124 I REALLY LIKE MY 2008 mx5 NC PRHT the best. IT IS A TRUE CONVERTiBLE not a targa top. it's styling is understated without the later MX5's wide mouth. But If I had to buy a new car it would be the Fiat 124. Changing a car just for the sake of changing it doesn't make any sense. Making it better should be the name of the game, not taking away trunk space and glove boxes etc. I have been a loyal Mazda owner of eight sporty and sports cars. Think before you re-design!
Got my 124 Spider Abarth, Manual transmission. Last month, and it is FASTER on all The Major Race track's than the mx Phase 2 tune brings up the H..P. To 230
Sofyan, great vid as always but for the love of God, it's pronounced "AH-BART" with a silent "h" at the end. (source: Fiat engineer who tuned the 500 Abarth talking about the car in other videos)
Honestly we are so far removed from his origin. Karl Abarth was an Austrian who immigrated to Italy, where they would probably pronounce his name "Carr-lo Abarr-ta."
Nice review. Three weeks ago, I bought a Classica with the manual and no other options. The price was $20,000 plus tax and license. A lot of fun for a low price. My only complaint is the narrow seat is a bit uncomfortable for me. Even though I normally like auto transmission, this manual is very smooth to shift.
Something that a lot of reviews aren't bringing up is the autocross performance of these cars. I don't own either car nor have i ever driven the Fiat, but looking at autocross results I don't see any Fiat 124 spiders placing highly in SCCA autocross championships. While the 2016 Miata in consistently place in the top spots for C Class. I'm not saying the miata is better at autocross, this could be because those autocross drivers are already very familiar with miatas and don't want to branch out into the 124 spider. I'd like to see a professional driver get behind the wheel and take the cars through a cone course since the Miata such an icon in autocross. Also i've noticed the Fiats tend to hold their value better then the miatas. at least in my area its hard to find a 124 spider for under 20grand, while there are at least 5 ND miatas on autotrader for under 20grand.
If you don't get the cheezy automatic, you get all the power you'll never need and you don't need paddles....and you forgot the storage compartments behind EACH seat.
You have a great channel, keep up the good work. Personally, I would never buy a new Fiat. Fiat's are made by Chrysler, which is a company known for making poor quality and uninspiring automobiles. This is is basically a modified Mazda Miata, which is a great car in itself. When a company has to buy a design from another company, or build an entire car in this case, you have to wonder why? In other words, I always like to buy directly from the company with the original genius design. I'll never forget when the Fiat 500 Albarth first came out. I drove 50 miles to check it out and the dealer said I had to pay a $5,000 nonrefundable deposit just to test drive it! He said; "it's a modern Italian car man". Yes, the badge said Fiat, but the sticker said it was a Chrysler product made in Mexico. Of course, I laughed at him, drove directly to Volkswagen and bought a brand-new GTI Autobahn. It's been the best dollar-for-dollar car I've ever owned.
Agreed they could have improved the interior, better storage would have earned some sales right off....I think the comparison you want to make though is between this 'normal' Fiata and the Fiat Abarth...I look forward to your next in any case.
How can they use the miata chassis, add a turbo engine with a stronger iron block and still manage to not provide at least 200hp? When will a manufacturer provide a strong powertrain (250hp) in a small less than 3000lb sports car? Abarth should have the 2.0 turbo 280hp Guilia engine.
The goal of this vehicle is to provide open top fun at an affordable price. Sure they could give it a million horsepower, but that would dobble the price, because suspension, chassis, brakes, everything would then also need to be upgraded. Porsche already make the Boxster, and maybe thats the vehicle for you?
Xtwonine I'm 6'5". You're pretty much SOL if you're over 6' and you want this car. What kind of cars do you even fit in at 6'9"? I feel like 6'5" is about the tallest you can be and still fit into most cars reasonably well.
I'm 23 (irrelevant, I know), but my first car was a 97 Blazer. I can fit in that quite well. Currently I'm driving a 07 Nissan Quest my father gave me which is hard for me to fit in, but I make it work. 2005-current year mid-size sedans will do, such as Camrys, Accords, Sonatas. My personal favorite is the Pontiac G8s
Miata has better engine, transmissions, is lighter, slightly cheaper and will probably be more reliable. I dont see why someone would buy this other than the badge.
Look ItsRain Miata is also faster in both 0 to 60 and on a track as shown in some videos. Also better dealership network. It is the original car instead of a "spin off".
Miata looks like shit... less refined(FCA actually uses sound deadening in their cars)... stiffer suspension. for a daily the spider is much better than the Mazda.
The 1.4 multiair is one of the most reliable engines of the modern era, other than that everything is Mazda. so you get Italian performance and styling with Japanese reliability
Ryan Poser it's faster consistently....that's one. It allows you to relax when you need to and manually select gears when you want to have a little fun. I understand, manual transmission, Roadster more control, yada yada yada but to each his own.
I don't care for this car reviewer's style since he tends to nit pick a vehicle's shortcomings, or what he considers a vehicle's shortcomings, in a very mechanical almost robot like tone. What he may think is a defect another may not care, or disagree. It's subjective, only he doesn't get it. ♐
AladdinSaneNYC I used to think that too but I've come to appreciate his videos because if he reviews a car in a positive light overall, it's probably most likely going to be something that you're going to enjoy. The things that he notices right away and nitpicks at - are things that you will eventually be annoyed with with the vehicle in time. At least he's getting it out in the open right away.
The Fiat 124 is more attractive with that typical classic sports car style.
The rear end on the fiat looks like what the Miatas rear end should be. Looks much more like a traditional Miata rear end.
I'm not gonna lie, i honestly like the look of the 124.
I'll take one.
What a fun car! My mom had that car in the 80s, she loved it. She watched this and said not much has changed! Small, manual top, manual transmission, small engine, fun! Her's didn't have seat belts or a/c
Claire Kennedy oh wow

I've always kinda liked this car. The classic retro look is nice. I'd never get one over a real Miata, though.
I love convertibles!! Nothing better than a Sunday ride in my S2000, wind in your hair, it's wonderful
Sofyan, have your neighbors ever ask you why do you talk to a camera in the car port?
I own a 3006 Mazda Miata and a 1980 Fiat Spider. The new Fiat 124 Spider sure reminds me of my 1980 Fiat and I do like the style better than the new Miata. Phase 2 tune brings up the H..P.
To 230
A ECU tune would take care of the top end power dropping big time
Yeah be it will drag down the reliability
You have a great voice for radio.
Sofyan, great vid as always but for the love of God, it's pronounced "AH-BART" with a silent "h" at the end. (source: Fiat engineer who tuned the 500 Abarth talking about the car in other videos)

Yes there's no H in the Italian language except in foreign words. Italians struggle to pronounce H.

Excellent review! Thanks, I want one!
Really nice car and not a huge hit to the wallet
I personally like the exterior styling of the Fiat over the Mazda although I would prefer that it have a naturally aspirated engine over the turbo 1.4
Lots of fun! Can't wait to see your MX-5 ND vs RF comparison/review.
Marc Pasquinelli it's coming soon!! Stay tuned :)
Great review! But still eagerly waiting for a full in depth review of the Alfa Romeo Q.V.!

Sofyan, is that a Hush-O-Matic on your MX-5? If so, are you planning a review? Thanks for all the great reviews!
great vid 😎😎😎
Muhammad Talha yea boi I love the emoji with the shades.... just discovered it like a month ago
If you don't get the cheezy automatic, you get all the power you'll never need and you don't need paddles....and you forgot the storage compartments behind EACH seat.
It's ticking like it has direct injection and yet it doesn't....aka that engine sounds awful...
love the new name
Is this the same six-speed Auto that's in the second gen Mazda 6?
Mr Preamble...
Get onnnnnn with it man!
Sweet little ride. I'll take one!

Mike Moretti Chrysler making poor quality and uninspiring vehicles? You have to be kidding me. SRT392s, HellCats, Awesome Jeeps, the list goes on.
I know that you prefer BPM on Satellite radio, but I rock Chill (Deep House)
Agreed they could have improved the interior, better storage would have earned some sales right off....I think the comparison you want to make though is between this 'normal' Fiata and the Fiat Abarth...I look forward to your next in any case.
Under the hood, why does the engine sound like it has direct injection? You know, that tick tick tick sound.
Nice shades man. Where can I get them?
Could you do exhaust sound between Miata vs 124?
Rade Narancic We actually could. We do have footage of both cars. Stay tuned :)
hello mr.bey May you review something like the infinity Q70
Hope nissan takes a hint, this design reminds me of the old Z.
Nice review
When will FCA give a hellcat for a review

Sofyan, is your Miata blue or white?
I can't tell 😂
nicktune1219 it's called ceramic metallic. Mazda says it's their silver color but it looks light gray or white most of the time.
much better looking than the MX5
tank really love the materiam version
the 124 looks like something my dad would drive to a golf game. The Miata looks like a sports car.
Your dad is right on!!!!! Maybe he'll let you drive it when you grow up.
Should have added a teak steering wheel would have been nice
Didn't I already watch this video last night?
Chevrasaki nah that was the top 5 likes & dislikes
no
I like the look of this car much better , it gorgeous , but don't trust the quality of the Fiat motor .
Its fine car if you forget there is Fiat badge
That front end of the Mazda is just so beautiful..I wish they did a better job at the back. :/
Too bad I'm 6'9, cannot fit in this car. I really like this car. Wished it was more upscale.
Xtwonine I'm 6'5". You're pretty much SOL if you're over 6' and you want this car. What kind of cars do you even fit in at 6'9"? I feel like 6'5" is about the tallest you can be and still fit into most cars reasonably well.

in person wheel base looks too small.
Why bother to even look at an automatic Fiata?
I really want one
I think it's better looking than the miata, looks kinda like a baby Honda S2000.
What straight man would drive this car??
Looks like a design from the 90s was randomly chosen for this ride
FIAT was founded on 11 July 1899 at Palazzo Bricherasio by thirty shareholders,! MAZDA 1970????
Nice video
Great car, I just reviewed a Miata RF on my UA-cam channel
So they took a Miata and made it unreliable. Got it
The engine sounds annoying
7th comment... Could you do a review on the rolls royce wraith? lol no but could you do the mercades s63 amg?
It looks like a 2nd gen miata made by WOPS
Put wire wheels on it
Much prefer the Miata in every aspect, even in a masculine way. Much more contemporary and modern looking also. Mazda nailed it.
Take the back of the Fiat and the front of the Miata and you have the Fiata which looks better.
miatas rear just looks odd. it's too pointy round and high. looks like the driver is riding the car like a horse.
yeet
Why does this even exist. Port injected iron block...and the design next to the Miata is just weird
Csab its in a car that is going for lightweight and balance. Fiat is showing they only know how to muck things up
To much comparison between manufacturers .
IM sleepp.. who would pay more for four hp?!?!
Nehemiah Winesberry it's more for the name and badges than anything tbh
AT? Bummer.
Miata is also better in handling (according to reviews) and looks better imo.
fiat looks better. miatas got that bug eye trash front end
Pretty sure most people think the Miata looks better ;)
Miata looks like shit... less refined(FCA actually uses sound deadening in their cars)... stiffer suspension. for a daily the spider is much better than the Mazda.
This ca is a rebadged Mazda Miata.
Rip off that worthless exhaust system and install a real performance exhaust system , it’ll go with that turbo spooling really sweet....
Wow that front end looks ugly af next to the mazda
I'm sorry but the engine sounds awful...
Why risk reliability, go with Mazda.
The 1.4 multiair is one of the most reliable engines of the modern era, other than that everything is Mazda. so you get Italian performance and styling with Japanese reliability
You lost me at automatic
😁😁
Years of trouble free motoring. Yeah i'm F O S.
This review is almost pointless... AT is a fail in a sports car especially if it's a crappy one.
the face is like donald duck
Eh not a fan.
Ha Ha look at all the scratches by the key hole on the drivers side. Drink much?
Miata still looks way better
miazda lol
My singer sounds a lot better
Miazda 😂
WHY WOULD SOMEONE BUY AN AUTOMATIC 2 SEAT ROADSTER.
Ryan Poser it's faster consistently....that's one. It allows you to relax when you need to and manually select gears when you want to have a little fun. I understand, manual transmission, Roadster more control, yada yada yada but to each his own.
this 124 is like the ugly brother to that mx5

Mazda looks so much better.
this car is ugly
i think this lokks better than the miata tbh, but its subjective
Good looking car, too bad it will fall apart unlike the Mazda which will last forever.
