    New theory. Sunrise on the reaping only says it starts on the reaping of the 50th games, but it never says those are the only games. What if we see the 51st games as well, and we see how hard it was for Haymitch to mentor the kids

    My personal theory (or what I would hope for I guess) is that the main POV isn’t from anyone in the arena, but rather the people of district 12, like Katniss’s parents, Peeta’s dad, the Donner family, and of course Haymitch’s family and girlfriend. I think it really goes together with the theme of propaganda and misinformation. It seems to me that that theme specifically would be difficult to convey through characters whose top priority is survival. But literally I think everything Suzanne Colliins touches turns to gold so I am happy with whatever she decides to do.

    Haymitch before the Games should be very much like Peeta, a kind optimist, and the Games changes him, OR his GF can be Peeta coded. Explains why Haymitch says Peeta is too good for Katniss. Bc Peeta reminds Haymitch of his murdered love.
    If the narrator is Snow then I’d expect a 3rd book. His own trilogy.

    an exciting thing about this book is a lot more familiar characters could potentially appear in it. the only characters from the original trilogy that appear in Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes are Snow and Tigris. There are a lot more characters from the original trilogy that can potentially appear in this one: Greasy Sae, Plutarch, Mags, other familiar victors, Kanniss' parents, Peeta's parents, Gale's parents, Madge's parents, Effie, Seneca, Caesar, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some.
    one of the things I'm most looking forward to finding out is whether Haymitch had a mentor and if so who, since no district 12 victors are available. might he have a mentor from another district like Mags? or a mentor from the capitol like Plutarch?
    I agree with the theory that we'll find out that what we saw of the 50th games isn't entirely accurate, since propaganda is a major theme. I also think the book will go past the end of the 50th games and see Haymitch dealing with the aftermath. I think it will go at least as far as when his family are killed. I'm curious to find out more about his relationship with his girlfriend and what kind of person Haymitch was before the games changed him

    • @CJs_Galaxy

      I can't imagine seeing the aftermath of the 50th games from all the characters. From what we can tell from the original trilogy, all of them would have been greatly affected by this specific games in some way

    just an fyi, trauma bonding isn't just bonding over trauma. it's a very specific form of abuse where the abuser does something horrible and then immediately follows with love bombing or something of that sort creating a cycle that's very hard to get out of. it gets misused a lot but it's important not to dilute the meaning of these things.

    This book has been living rent free in my head since it was announced. But I'm still stuck on the perspectives being the Donner twins. One or both of them.
    They are the only canon twins in the whole series (unless I have missed some in my recent reread), and we know Suzanne Collins doesn't do anything in her writing without a reason. So I have to think there is a reason for her explicitly stating they are twins, and not just siblings, and considering this would be the time period where that piece of information would be relevant, I can't stop thinking it'll at least be a secondary focus point of the story.
    My "unhinged theory" was that there was a twin swap and the "Maysilee Donner" who actually went into the games was NOT the real Maysilee, but actually her sister. And whilst I think that would be a super cool story to tell, the guilt and heartbreak of being back in the District watching your twin sister, who went in your place, die in the arena... I think it might just be a little TOO unhinged to be the actual story line (though if Suzanne Collins wants to prove me wrong, PLEASE DO), but there are some similarities to the previous books that might be of note.
    - unconventional tribute selection
    Yeah, sure, its the Quarter Quell, so of course its unconventional, but thats not what I mean. In THG, Katniss wasn't chosen, she volunteered. In CF, only Katniss could be chosen. Mockingjay obviously didn't have a tribute selection. In TBoSaS, Lucy Gray wasn't chosen, Mayfair asked the Mayor to read her name... So the District 12 girlies (that we know of) have always had unconventional entries into the games. Maybe the unconventional nature in this one is the Twin Switch.
    We've also had "The Mayor's Daughter" as a character in both the main trilogy (Madge) and in TBoSaS (Mayfair), so I am fully expecting to see one of the children of the Mayor as a side character at the very least. I know there's been a few people (myself included) who suspect that the Mayor we know in Katniss's time, was the son of the Mayor during Haymitch's time, but I don't think we have any evidence for that, so I'm thinking it'll be a different person, and we'll have another "The Mayors Daughter" character show up.
    I cannot wait for more information to surface about Sunrise on the Reaping, because at least then I can (probably / hopefully) get this damn Twin Theory out of my brain 😂
    Also, congrats on 1k! You absolutely deserve it, and I wish I'd found your channel sooner!

      Thank you so much for sharing your theory! I will admit it is one of the most wild theory I have seen but I do see your point on the twins. I can imagine there would at least some grief surrounding Madge's mother thinking she should have volunteered in her sister's place.
      But if your theory is true - even only a little bit - I think it would be really interesting subplot for the story.

    • @rhilou32
      @rhilou32 Місяць тому +2

      @@CJs_Galaxy Oh, for sure. As I said, I don't think Suzanne Collins will actually go as wild as the Twin Switch, but exploring at least some of the emotions / guilt that a twin would feel in this kind of situation...that's going to be heartbreaking.

    Thanks for the shout out! I have definitely reconsidered my initial claim about the Snow/Haymitch/Maysilee triple perspective as more time has gone on. It's not impossible but it's highly unlikely. On Amazon it says the book is 400 pages; no idea if that's the final number though (I'm hoping it's a little longer personally). If it is 400 pages, more than one perspective would be highly unlikely since it would not be a lot of time to develop the leads

    • @jeremymacnamara1587
      @jeremymacnamara1587 Місяць тому +3

      Also as for Tigris being the D12 stylist, I think it's unlikely since for starters Katniss said in Mockingjay that Tigris was not a D12 stylist (though she could have been mistaken) but more importantly Katniss said in Catching Fire that the tributes were in awful coal miner outfits, I'd like to think Tigris would be more creative

    • @CJs_Galaxy
      @CJs_Galaxy  Місяць тому +2

      400 pages is so short for a Suzanne Collins novel if that's true. Her original books for closer to 600 pages.
      For your point on Tigris - I completely forgot about the outfits they were wearing in the footage Peeta and Katniss watched.
      My opinion has also changed over time but I still think it's good to speculate because maybe something true will come out of it.
      Thanks so much for sharing! :)

    I saw a comment about how having a book from the perspective of a character who dies would be an interesting POV - get the readers attached and then kill them off and tear our hearts out. The comment seems to have been deleted now, but whilst I don't think it would work for Sunrise on the Reaping (because we know who wins and who dies. If the POV character was any tribute other than Haymitch, we already know they're going to die, so wont get as attached. If it was a member of Haymitch's family, we already know that they get killed two weeks post-games, same for his girlfriend at the time. Any other character who might die surrounding the Quarter Quell would be too much of a side-character for us to be invested in), I do have some opinions...
    Where I think this could work exceptionally well, is for any story Suzanne Collins writes for the 25th Hunger Games / First Quarter Quell. We don't know the victor for that games, their name has never been mentioned. We also know that was the year the Districts had to vote in their tributes, rather than random selection. Imagine someone being voted in because their District thinks they're a bad kid and they don't care if they die... then we learn about their tragic backstory as we go through training and into the games, we connect with the character in a very real way, we find out that the District's opinion of them was influenced by a few people's dislike and spreading of rumours/lies, there's so much more to them than that. We learn who they love, what they're fighting for... we watch them retain their humanity in the games in spite of their District's opinion of them, watch them pay their respects to the fallen tributes, change their District's opinion of them slowly, and then BAM. Death.
    The book ends. There are no winners when you send people to their death. We never find out who wins that games, because that wasn't the point of the book.... (OK Suzanne Collins... I need this now, please and thank you)

    I highly doubt it would happen, but here’s what I would love to see:
    The book would be written from the perspective of a tribute Haymitch mentors. I think the ‘Sunrise’ aspect of the title is significant as I’ve gone back and the reaping is NEVER near sunrise (the book would begin at sunrise and end at sunset). So, I think the book will take place on one day - specifically the day before the tribute enters the arena (I hope your following this please stay with me 😭). I think the whole story would be their perspective of piecing the true story of Haymitch and his games together, in the face of the Capitol propaganda that surrounds them. I think it would make for an emotional read as we know that they would die in the arena and Haymitch just had a really sad story. I do believe they would investigate the whole situation of Victor life as well as just Haymitch. It would also give the opportunity to bring characters like Effie back, and perhaps give them more of a role.
    I understand this will never happen but I would love for such an empathetic read !!

    Thank you for the shout out. I actually dug really far about my Plutarch narrator's theory that I would be kinda disapointed if it turns out I'm wrong. 😂😅
    In the only official infos we have so far, Collins said her book was inspired by Hume and by "the easiness with which the many are governed by the few" and that propaganda and "the power of those who control the narrative" will be important.
    I mean who controls more the narrative than a Gamemaker ??!
    And as for Snow being president I just checked it out :
    "After the anthem, they show president Snow drawing the enveloppe for the Second Quarter Quell. He looks younger but just as repellent. He reads from the square of paper in the same onerous voice..." Catching Fire chapter 14

    One thing to note about Effie is that she is definitely a few years younger than Haymitch. This isn’t fully canon, because her age is never said. But we can base it on Elizabeth Banks. I believe that Banks is 38 during the filming of the first movie. But this doesn’t mean that Effie is 38. I mean, Woody Harrelson is about 50 when filming the first movie. I’d say that Effie during the 50th games would be around 10 years old. (And Haymitch 16, but that’s confirmed)

    One idea I´ve thought about a lot, that nobody else seems to think about, is it being from the perspective of someone from District 13. Or District 13 playing a significant role in it in some way, shape or form, if only in being mentioned and revealed to the narrator. Think about it. The main theme is going to be propaganda. What better piece of propaganda is there in the series than convincing the whole country of Panem that District 13 was bombed to ruins at the end of the First Rebellion, and inhabitable, with radioactive smoke and other dangerous air pollution substances still spreading from the ruins? When we know the population were safely evacuated by a prearranged agreement due to a stalemate between District 13 and The Capitol in Nuclear Weapons. But there are still so many questions left. How did District 13's population manage to build an underground society after the bombing? What is the average citizen's life's like at this stage, and what do they know about the world outside the District? Do they watch The Games? Is propaganda heavily used on District 13's citizens, but here against the Capitol? You could almost guess that, based on how they reacted to Peeta's proposal to a ceasefire in Mockingjay. How was their culture before President Coin took leadership? As well as before the epidemic planted by the Capitol in an act of biological warfare, which left many of them dead, and those who survived sterile? How many other similar stunts have been carried out by the Capitol over the years? Did District 13 have spies that they sent to the other districts, and the Capitol? How would President Snow feel about them, and their secret underground existence and independence, with the history that his family lost their fortune because it was invested in District 13 during The Dark Days? Obviously they have very advanced technology by the time of the Third Quarter Quell. Boggs told Katniss in Mockingjay that they had had more than enough with surviving on their own so far, and only recently had become strong enough to go into offensive mode. It seems that Snow's strategy when dealing with District 13 was "keep them in surviving mode for as long as possible. Or better yet, make them extinct".
    Whatever your feelings about District 13 are, you can't deny the fact that without it as a safe haven for the rebel leaders, and their Capitol-matching weapons, the Second Rebellion could not have turned out as it did. And just like President Snow does not represent all Capitol citizens, President Coin doesn't represent all of District 13's citizens either. Look at Boggs, who warned Katniss against Coin's political ambitions, and what they could mean for her, before his death. With the exceptions of District 12 and The Capitol, District 13 is the only place in Panem we spend a considerably long amount of time during the series. I think it gets a worse reputation in the fandom than it deserves due to Katniss' POV narration. Seeing a usual District 13 citizen's point of view would have been way more interesting than seeing a Career District's POV imao. I hope we at least get more information and history about this underground society in the new novel.

      Yeah, in Mockingjay they're all enemies of one another then Snow and Coin are trying to gain power. It'd be interesting to see why Coin wanted power in the same way the prequel told us why Snow wanted power too
