Unfortunately for the first Theory, I don't think it's true. Assuming that you can only run for president starting at 35 like in the real US, there would've been a good 17 years before Snow could run for president (During around the 27th games). Gaul is already so old (shown by her white hair) that I wouldn't be surprised if she just died of natural causes by that point. The Second theory, honestly no clue, as that mostly sound like more of a headcanon, as there's no evidence to go for or against it. All we know is that they're dead before the 75th games, as Effie didn't send Peeta a tape of their games The Third theory can't be possible, as we see that they prick the citizen's fingers for blood samples, to CONFIRM it's them, so unless they thought so far ahead as to have swapped finger blood somehow, I don't think this one can be true. I think Madge's mother is just in bed all the time with headaches from the trauma of watching her sister get skewered on live television. Honestly, I kinda like the Mayor theory, but at the same time, I don't think this is the case. We've seen that a LOT of people resent District 12 for being poor, so people from 2 most likely wouldn't want to be apart of it, or if they did, they'd try to reform it to be more like district 2 with the games training and stricter codes. However, I won't disregard this theory completely, as I do think that it could be something else. I think the mayors of each district could be People that lost in the election for president in the capitol. We hear that Snow poisoned a lot of them, but it's stated he only poisoned the ones that he thought were REAL Threats to power. He would very well likely let the others live as Mayors of the District, to keep the districts running, but also so they are in much worse condition to try and run for president again, and it would explain why he let the Mayor die in the bombing of 12. Because if the war IS won, he'd still be a political threat

Currently debating writing all my head canons into a fic for this & lowkey I’m yet to find a plot hole in my theories LOL. Also, fun fact: Haymitch is a derivative of Hamish which means supplanter or “holder of the heel” - its root is from Jacob in the Bible & he stole the birthright from Esau. Let’s make this theory even more unhinged: each of the 48 reaped kids is the older twin. Haymitch is said to have a younger brother, but we’re never told how much younger. ^ I recognized how unhinged this is, but I can’t help thinking that Suzanne would go there. Also, I think whether real maysilee or not, Madge’s mother is suffering the effects of poison & Katniss’ mother was able to help her stay alive - maybe that’s why her dad gets killed in the mines? 🫠

Yeah I can see what you mean about the exact timeline of Snow's kills and him being a little wary to kill Gaul so early. But there's a good ten years post-10th games before I see him killing her so their dynamic could have changed in this time. For Ravinstill idk there's definitely a possibility that Snow killed him but my gut feeling he just kind of declines in health and dies weak. Maybe it's Gaul poisoning him so she can get power only for her protege to take it out from under her. Your theory about the 25th Games is very interesting even if I don't necessarily agree with it. Perhaps the first quell didn't happen quite like we are told, but I can't see how the Capitol could manage to gaslight the entire generation that would still remember the quell by Katniss's time into a completely false narrative. Propaganda is a powerful thing tho so maybe. I feel the same way about this theory that you do about the twin theory 🤣 I've always wondered how mayor's are instated and assumed that the Capitol appointed them but I really like this idea. Besides giving wealthy district citizens a feeling of superiority, it could also help sow distain between the districts with Mr. Big Shot from District 1 or 2 overseeing an impoverished outer district. Though I wonder how aware normal citizens would be of the mayoral selection process

We "know" (are told) that the 1st Quarter Quell had the districts voting for the tributes, instead of being randomly picked. What if the tributes who were voted for were just killed off by the Capitol? No games, just death. There was nearly no victor in the 10th games because of Gaul... what if she enacted that for the 25th? (also, the Twin Theory still lives rent free in my head 😂)

Just had a random thought that I haven't heard anyone mention yet. With the focus of propaganda and the theme of 'real or not real' in the new book. What if the story we know about Haymitch's Hunger Games isn't true (or only partially true)? It always seemed like an overreaction for the Capitol to kill Haymitch's entire family just for his axe stunt (although very on brand). This idea fits well with Plutarch's POV, allowing for a focus the difference between what really happened in the Games and the version the public saw (real or not real). Sorry if you've already covered this-I try to watch all your videos but might have missed something!

As an ex divergent fan, yes the test is dumb and in highlight that’s the point in the 3rd or 4th they talk about how the divergent are the normal and how everyone else is kinda mutated. The “you follow the orders” part that you touched on is because dauntless are soldier/police who follow orders for the government. I know it’s dumb as a series but there is some stuff your dislike is missing! They are trying to to strip them of their nuance so they’re easier to control I don’t love this boook because in highlight as an adult it jsut wasn’t as deep as the other dystopian ya books and just leans into it being so horny.

I am ashamed to say I was (sort of) pleasantly surprised. It’s still an awful movie, but it wasn’t as much of a copy of the Hunger Games as I was told (might be worse in the next movies). What I was surprised by, but not pleasantly, is the age gap. I had no idea she was sixteen and he 24, but it was clear since the beginning that he, with his position, could never be a healthy fit for Tris. Sure he’s a nice guy when you ignore the whole power and age difference, but man I hate him. And I totally agree with you, they took every aspect of the dystopian genre and made it both cringe and meaningless. I tried to find some deeper meaning, but the whole nature-nurture thing was so surface level. I kind of (and don’t get mad) enjoyed it in the same way as the Maze Runner movies. Now I have not read the books, but I simply liked the Maze Runner movies as an interesting story, not as a very deep story. I think the difference here is, though, divergent tried to have deeper meaning but failed miserably. I also found Tris’ comment (don’t remember exactly what it was) about some violence being necessary (she shot someone) rather strange. I’d have loved to hear more of her thought process on that, but now it was just left like that, as if the viewer should just agree without thinking critically. I can’t even call this a guilty pleasure, I just liked the visuals but the plot is pretty crap. But somehow I’m still excited to watch the next movie, just to see how bad it gets. Anyway, thanks for the review! I’m glad I’m not the only one who disagrees it’s it’s just a copy of the Hunger Games. I agree the scene with the choking was the only comparable one, the rest is just popular aspects of the dystopian genre. Edit: ONE MORE THING! Feel free to ignore this but I found it a little bit funny. When Four throws knives at Tris, he slices off a little bit of her right ear. I just, was reminded of a little something.

I disagree that Lucy Gray and her ilk are “seam” and they certainly wouldn’t consider themselves such. They are artisans, and have used their talents to keep themselves out of the mines. They may become seam down the line once music is banned (after all there’s a very credible theory about Maude Ivory being Katniss’ grandma) but at the time of the books the covey are a third class. They are neither seam nor merchant. They are covey.

I think Snow saw Katniss as the daughter that he and Lucy would have had if they had stayed together. She has Lucy's passion for music and nature but thinks the same as him. Because of this, I think that a part of him genuinely liked Katniss and wanted them to be friends while another part of him genuinely wanted her to die. While Katniss may have been related to Lucy in some way, she had no biological connection to Snow, and since he didn't raise her, he couldn't take credit for any of her impressive qualities. She was a reminder of what he could've had.

i think katniss would have still killed coin, even if prim was still alive. katniss and boggs talked about how coin didn’t like her and put her in danger. coin would have had katniss killed if katniss didn’t step back as leader of the rebellion. coin also would have had a problem with katniss voting against a capital games. katniss and snow understood each other and agreed to never lie to each other. they all knew coins intentions.

If it *is* from a career's perspective (which is unlikely), it would be the girl that Haymitch fights against at the end.

Personally, I pictured Katniss and all the other people in the Seam as Asian or Hispanic. But her description could also technically apply to a darker white girl, so I don’t think it was racism, just the people who cast the movie picturing Katniss looking different than I did. I also pictured her looking much more like a child, but I don’t mind that they used an adult, because I know what happens to kids in Hollywood.

The first Twilight is legit ✨Iconic✨ the blue tint, Kristen's stuttering, Rob's complete hatred for the movie showing through in every scene. I’m so sorry they made you do this, it wasn’t me who voted for Twilight I promise 😭😭 Also, let me tell you a little bit about the only way I managed to get through all five movies. I’d watch the movies only when sick with a fever, and after two years, I finally finished the last one a couple months ago. Now I got sick last week, and I genuinely didn’t know what to do now that there was no Twilight left. Felt really weird lol The only movie I watched while healthy was New Moon, and I’m not sure if it was because of my present sanity at that moment, but it was the worst. Thank goodness the Twilight torture ends here (for now). Also, about what you said about the author sounding like a mormon, I totally get what you mean. The way Edward is so keen on waiting ‘til marriage, how Bella is portrayed as “not like other girls”, yet is the caricature of a typical conservative girl. The obsession with how nature makes us beasts (horny beasts even, like why put the focus on that so much? 😭) Jacob becomes a bigger character from New Moon onwards, and it makes the franchise not a single bit better. Like you said, it’s okay to enjoy the movies just for the funsies and giggles. But to like it any more than that would be… a tad bit insane. Looking forward to Divergent! I’m interested to see how much they actually copied The Hunger Games. For as far as I know (from people within the HG fandom), it’s a carbon copy of Suzanne Collins’ works but without the meaning. We’ll see :)

Tbh Thresh and Rue casting annoys me for a different reason. Rue is very light skinned; the actress is half white. Now, I don't think this is inherently wrong, because D11 is not only populated by black people (Seeder) and even today, African-Americans have 24% white ancestry on average. However, I find it very colorist that the innocent little girl is very light whereas the physically threatening boy from the same district is very dark, almost blue-black. I think it would be less distracting if they were more similar, either both very dark or both lighter. The book even describes Thresh as having "the same dark skin as Rue."

i'm an indigenous turtle islander and i always really loved katniss as a kid. i dressed up as her for halloween when i was like 10-ish. she always made me feel seen and in my little kid mind i wasn't consciously thinking "i like her because i'm native and she's native," but i always just assumed she was because of the things you mentioned like knowing the land, living in a more rural area, & her dark features (+ her grey eyes, which i also have. they're more common in natives than you might think). plus things like her bow hunting & even small things like wearing braids just gave me the message that "she is like me." even watching the movies as a little kid, i saw jennifer lawrence and it didn't make katniss any less native to me, because, again, native people with that complexion are SUPER common. now that i'm older and i actually know who jennifer lawrence is (and unfortunately her past with anti-indigenous racism), i'm definitely saddened by the casting. i do believe katniss was white washed

If it helps with your take on olive skin, I’m mixed race and that’s how my skin is usually described, but it actually varies between ‘white’ and ‘brown’ depending on how much sun exposure I get 😊 I liked how you handled this subject! Personally re: Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, I don’t think she was a perfect match for the book character, but she played it so well that we were all enamored

If I'm not mistaken, the author said everyone was pretty mixed in Panem. Like, it was a little bit of everything. That being said, I think it would be interesting for a certain ethnicity to be more 'concentrated' in some places. I can definitely see Katniss as at least partially indigenous.
