I'm Molly, a typical sushi, makeup, and fashion loving millennial girl who just so happens to be blind! I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa at just 4 years old and began public speaking at age 5. I started just doing motivational speaking, but now I make videos and even model! Even though I can’t see, I know that there are bright spots in everything we face. Let’s find them together. 💕

Molly you're hilarious, i liked the ice cream story, thats funny. i have a funny story but it was my buddy. He and i were eating our lunch at the stadium next door to our high school, this is 16 years ago. he had pizza and I had a burger and fries. we get out from eating and i see he's got some pizza sauce on his mouth. so i say hey Luke you've got some pizza sauce on your mouth. and he says "oh man, I was saving that for later" lol. its not so humiliating as him being hilarious. im sure ive had a million embarrassing moments, but that was a funny one that should have been embarrassing for him. quick turnaround. keep doing your thing, you're an inspiration. my personal struggle is with mental health disabilities, but your common sense approach to cheering people up is contagious, you have me smiling now as i'm working on a painting slowly. thanks!!

Even though I ask for a lid to be put on my coffee cup, sometimes the server doesn’t so I grab it and spill it everywhere. I’ve learned to always feel for the lid before I pick it up.
My son has the habit of wandering off while I’m “looking” at things and not only am I then talking to someone who isn’t there, I go to take his arm and grab a complete stranger!!

When I was in year 3 I slipped over when I got to school and fell into the splits and all the year six boys and boys in my class laughed at me. It was so embarrassing! When I walked off one of the people said little girl are you ok and I was so embarrassed I didn’t answer. When people ask me what my most embarrassing moment was I always tell that story.

We went to see Drew Lynch in Iowa about a month ago. Don't ask me why I did put my makeup on before we left home. So, we're by the funny bone theater and we're about three hours early so we went into a donut shop. I then decided that I would put my makeup on in the women's bathroom. I don't know what I was thinking! I ended up with so much mascara on my eyebrows but I had to take soap and water and scrub it off and start over. I had so much mascara on my eyelids also that I now look like a really scary clown. You can tell him the photos! I just look freaky.

    • @jessicajarsak7812

Sometimes it’s necessary when the conversation heads to an awkward place or the other person just isn’t listening or if they’re yelling Kr making stupid excuses I’ve just walked away. There was no reason to stay there and that cues in the other person that I’m done listening to their nonsense. But this is rare. I don’t make a habit of it. Since I haven’t been around or seen many blind people, and now with MS I would probly forget to tell the person when I’m leaving lol. Because I get distracted easily and so I end up forgetting what I was doing or where I was and so I’m not trying to be rude, I just get distracted. It doesn’t phase me until later like whoops. I mean I’ll forget if I ate during the day and have to go back in my memory through the day and try and remember what I did and then I’m like ok I did or I’m like oh that was yesterday. Idk. MS has just really messed with cognitive and memory and concentration so I say and so weird stuff here and there. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Brendan Oakes Molly’s videos have helped me tremendously on being a better co-worker to our blind prep person, Barbara. Even just the little things like when she’s frustrated I ask “Would you LIKE some help with that?” Instead of “Do you NEED help with that?” Shes a 70 year old VERY sassy lady and will definitely let you know if you do or say something that she doesn’t like and she has no problem NOT liking people we work with so getting all the proper education on how to work with her before I became one of those people have made mornings shifts a breeze. Sometimes when she can tell I’m really stressed out or having a bad day she’ll put an empty cardboard box over her head and bump into me and yell “DIDNT SEE YOU THERE!!!!”

Oh, I remembered another one! Along with other visual impairments, I am fully colorblind. This happened a long time ago and it’s another ice cream story. I was in an ice cream shop I ordered a butterscotch sundae. This was a sitdown place, and I was sitting at the counter. The server brought my sundae and then she started bussing the counter. She told me “there’s more butterscotch if you want it“. At the same time, she set down a condiment bottle in front of me on the counter. I thought she was saying that the bottle she was setting in front of me was the butterscotch, so I grabbed it and poured it all over my sundae. Turns out it was mustard! I now had a butterscotch and mustard sundae! I told her what I did and she was very nice and remade my sundae.

1:34 Omg I met you in the bathroom at VidCon (okay not the actual stall but the sink area) and I started talking to you just as I was washing my hands and then when you put your hand out to shake my hand at the end of the conversation, it was a genuine dilemma to me whether I should shake it with wet hands or say something haha. I think bathroom encounters are destined to be awkward, I've tried so hard to make it work but it's just not gonna work out haha.

For context : I'm French and we kiss friends on both cheeks as a greeting, it's called "la bise".
So I was in highschool, doing homework when this girl comes to me, taps my shoulders and do "la bise" and I go along thinking it's one of my friends. We realised after that we didn't know each other and had each thought that the other was someone else. Awkward moment 🤷
Another time, I waved to my dad coming home on his bike.
    It wasn't my dad.
And when I was a child, I remember clearly that I followed a stranger several times, thinking it was one of my parents 🤦

I cried when I picture in my mind that poor kid with the bunny hat calling Mom... 😂
I usually don't have embarrassing moments because I usually laugh a lot when I do awkward things. But... I remember that one time (I'm sighted). I was with my family at a farmers market and I grabbed my granny and put my arm all across her back and continue walking looking around at the food and talking to her without looking at her, like, for at least 20 second and when I looked at her... I saw this woman looking back at me trying not to laugh and I screamed and jumped away so she started laughing so hard... She told me that she understood the situation but she wanted to see how long could I stay with her... It was very funny!

I'm just about legally blind and I'm in a constant state of, "Is that person talking to me?"

    • @DieAlteistwiederda
      @DieAlteistwiederda 5 років тому +8

I sometimes just dissociate so bad that I can't distinguish people unless I know they will be wearing something very specific.
That's also why I myself usually wear something that is different to what most people wear so a lot of black in the summer and very bright colors during the winter.
A lot of my friends appreciate how easy it is to find me because of this even though they don't know why I do it.
I now also have very whitish blonde hair with blue tips so it's even easier to see me.
      I know it helps me.

I loved the taxi moment. I can relate a similar moment, actually my mother-in law's moment. She and my father in-law were in a Penney's Dept Store about 25 years ago. They were walking hand in hand and my mother in-law, mom, decided to stop and she focused on the jewelry in the glass case. After a minute, while still bent over the case, she reached back and grabbed his hand and started to walk off. Mom finally looked up and saw dad standing there laughing hysterically. Mom looked back and realized she was holding the hand of a complete stranger who was laughing just as much as dad. Dad saw it all happen and just couldn't stop giggling all the way back to the car.

I used to play "Guesd who it is?" with my friends when I was a teenager; basically we'd sneak up behind and cover the person's eyes and put on funny voices until they guessed who we were.
So I saw who I thought was my friend and I sneaked up and covered her eyes and was like "guess who?" in the most high pitched voice I could make. She turns around and I see that this poor forty something year old woman was definitely not my teen friend, she just happened to have the same hair color, and she definitely didn't know who I was.
Luckily she just laughed it off while I turned red from the embarrassment.

I have also gotten in the wrong car once, as a sighted person. My dad and I went to a fast food restaurant and he sent me into the building to get the food. While I was inside a HUGE truck had parked in the space next to us, completely blocking my view of our car. Additionally, another car of the same make, model, and color as my car had then parked on the other side of that truck (the car even had the same racing stripes, what are the odds?). So I leave the restaurant food in hand, go to where we parked, and hop right on into the front passenger seat... then I look over at the guy in the drivers side and he’s not my dad. We kind of stare at each other in shock for a moment, and I was like, “oops, wrong car,” and got out fast. One of the most awkward moments of my life.

When I was younger, I went to a birthday party at a roller rink for my cousin. It was common for a few parties to be going on at the same time but the room to sing happy birthday to eat cake and icecream was scheduled. They would announce over the speakers "it is time for the guests of so and so to sing happy birthday in the party room." Well they made an announcement but I didn't hear the name clearly. I knew the time was near for us to go in soon so I head to the room and sit down. I got there early and was one of the first to show up so they handed me a plate and silverware asked what kind of icecream I wanted. I slowly noticed as people started coming in that I didn't recognize anyone and that they were wondering who I was. The room filled up fast and before I could get up and leave I had a piece of cake and icecream in front of me, the lights turned off to sing happy birthday and the cake with candles came in thru my only exit. I realized well I'm screwed now and ate the cake and icecream. They never once said anything to me. Lol I just got up and left after I was done eating.

I waved at a person that wasn't waving at me
    Called my freind my mam
    Calling my teacher my mam
    Texting the wrong person
Nearly falling down the stairs at my primary prom (I'm English)
Being asked why I was laughing
    Nearly walked into a trolley
Walking into a stranger at an arcade
Thinking I see my nana and walk up to her
Walking with someone I thought was my family
    ⬆️
And I'm sighted which dosent make a difference but then looking at them wondering why they wouldn't talk to me
    These are just a few
    Btw love you Molly❤

Please talk about more serious videos about disabilities. I have been discriminated against so many times...literally left in a wheelchair at an airport, called a "baby" for needing help from my Mom, yelled at by a random man for having a disability placard for parking oh man, so many. There are many kind people of course too.

My friend asked me if I watched a girl named
Molly Burk and I said yeah I do
I love her.....she tells me well I'm her biggest fan though
Like I have met her in person
(That was a lie) and like I
    Have sent her fanmail
(also a lie) and then she tells me but why does she have that black dog though like I don't get that
And I turn to her and I say
Do you think she is blind
    And she yelled at me
    MOLLY BURK IS NOT BLIND
SHE IS TO PREETY TO BE BLIND
😮😮 and I pull up this video and she says
....oh um I don't like her anyway
I find out she has not even watched one video of yours before

Would love to see a video with the more serious ones. My husband is blind also because of RP. And also like you, he doesn’t look blind. We had an incident at a Denny’s where the manager was giving us a hard time about his guide dog. Even after he showed her his and Keith’s ID she wasn’t satisfied because the id didn’t contain an expiration date. I was pissed at this point and blurted out “because we don’t know when he’s gonna die. “ My husbanded added, “or gets retired”. Anyway, I feel it’s important for people to hear these stories also.

Lisa Bardo That’s awful that he had a poor experience at Denny’s, but please tell me his guide dog is called Keith, because that is the cutest!

Catherine Boland yes the dog is named Keith. We gave him the middle name Richards because we happened to be at a Rolling Stones concert on his first birthday.

I did that when I was like 4, I ran over and hugged some lady’s leg thinking it was my mom’s. I vividly remember the mom jeans they both had on. And I didn’t look up I just recognized the leg so I hugged it and she looked down at me and said “um honey I think you’re looking for her” and pointed over to my mom (who was giving her the “I’m sorry for my kid” look). And that’s the first time I ever remember being embarrassed 😂

I always make sure to tell my blind friend that I'm leaving, I call him by name so he knows I'm talking to him, and I usually have to physically give people his card because he holds out his hand with his card and they just won't take it. He's very obviously blind too, sunglasses and cane are usually a dead giveaway that 'hey this guy can't see to take his change'. People are dumb

I cracked up when she felt that kids bunny hat, it sounds like she has the worst luck with certain things and it reminds me of me😂 This one time me and my boyfriend were at the dog park walking our dogs and they have these motivational signs with sayings on them that are spread through-out the trail and some were nice but there was this one that had a horse fly photo with a quote and I was being goofy about how the photo did not match the quote and how I didn’t like horse flys, this was not quietly but the park wasn’t busy and there was woods around us but of course within seconds later there was a lady who stopped us and asked if we liked the signs and continued to state it was her DAUGHTER and friends who made them a few years back and let us know about all the work that was put into the signs. After we spoke to her and walked away we were like omg this would only happen to us..

My husband got in the driver’s seat of a car that was not ours, better yet there was an elderly woman in the passenger seat whom he proceeded to terrify and make her think she was being carjacked. Needless to say that took a lot of explaining and apologizing.

Omg idk if you can see him XD I have been watching your channel for about a year, and at first I was just wearing glasses... now though my eyes are actually getting so bad that I need assistance on the days my eyes are worse. I have a lot of questions, I could really use someone to talk to about these concerns and questions. I would so appreciate it if you happen to see my comment and reply❤
