I thought I recognized Duncan Casey in the thumbnail. While I am sad to see that you guys have parted company with the other channel - not gonna ask why, it's none of me business - I am glad to see you guys are still on UA-cam and doing stuff. I sincerely hope your audience continues to grow.
Underated sequel and has so much to bring to the RoboCop mythos. Great casting and I agree, as good a continuation from the original as could be. Yes a little clunky in places but will always hold high regard with me! Great stuff chaps!
Its weird I actually really like this movie especially the fact that you point out why its a great movie if you removed the baggage that people attach from the original. You nailed it with the meta commentary on sequels observation, looking forward to more observations like these guys.
The one thing about Robocop 2 which is intriguing is the direction for Murphy to be more sarcastic. You see him being a little silly after they mess with his brain but before that you have a few lines of dialogue which is very sarcastic and funny, when he shoots the guy in the head holding the baby “we can’t have that” and when Cain tells him one of them must die “dead then” is his response. It’s such a tonal shift from movie 1 and as the rest is I wonder if they had intended for him to be more human again in this film with the deleted scene as you said, perhaps there was more they wanted to discover and ultimately failed to do. Might have made the line at the end more relevant and perhaps he hasn’t quite accepted he’s a cyborg yet
I vaguely remember seeing this first and being blown away. My Uncle (rip)Anthony was a huge movie buff and had posters of 1 and 2, and Shocker and Elm Street, which enthralled me and showed me parts of Robo 2, mostly the end and was in awe. Since then, been a big fan and defender of Robocop 2. Thanks Comrades for the video.
I'm sure I saw a ^we want your suggestions* video somewhere, can't find it now anyway, I have a suggestion. What about show where you each show the other a film that you totally dig, but the other one hasn't seen or is not into then discuss after. So Richard could show Duncan, I dunno something like Star Trek 2, and Duncan would show Richard The Living Daylights or whatever and each has to convert the other to their cause, Duncan and Bond versus Richard and Star Trek? Something like that anyway.
When I was a kid I used to stay at my cousin's house when my parents work in the school holidays. The main 3 VHSs I used to watch were Independence Day and Robocop 1&2.
Robocop 2 is a good example of a whiteboard movie, in that its like the writers threw loads of great ideas out and rather than just pick a few to develop, shoved them all into one film. I kind of think if they had developed the PC Robocop and Caine rivalry it would have been better, but I still like it for all its flaws.
I don't remember where I heard this explained, but it's been explained the police precinct (in the second movie, anyway) is different because it's a different precinct in Old Detriot. OCP merged all the precincts in old Detroit into one as some shitty cost saving measure, despite making more practical sense to keep a few of them functioning in the different neighbourhoods. It's in my head as the accepted answer, but it's never really explained in the film, like how the flamethrowers in The Thing were for de-icing the pipes
I read that in the original script large parts of Detroit were already being transformed to build Delta City also ED 209 was used more often to protect workers than using cops. there's an element of this in the opening scene and in the end with the new H.Q
You can't really improve on perfection (the original), but Robocop 2 is still an entertaining movie and has a lot going for it, it's not for the faint hearted though. Can't stand the score however, it's a bit too light and twee for such a dark and complex film. You and I and Mike Stoklasa seem to be on the same page. It is almost satirising itself, so your Gremlins 2 comparison is perfectly valid, odd that they were both released in the same year! Can't wait for a discussion on that particular movie with Brad, given his love of Joe Dante Great discussion lads, thanks!
Cain needed to be recast. He was one of the things that was really dragging this film down for me. I felt someone like Brian Thompson could have done a better job. But maybe they were going for that non-stereotypical juxtaposition of having a skinny meth addict hippie look for the major drug lord in Detroit.
My parents took me to the cinema to watch this film. I was 9! Cain/Robocop 2 scared the fuck out of me. I just remember leaving the cinema a bit shook up. Richard, I miss your hair.
I'm not sure which of Tom Noonan's characters scared me more when I was young? Whether it was Cain in Robocop 2, or as The Tooth Fairy in the film Manhunter. Bang pfft!
ZED = Peter Greene: www.imdb.com/name/nm0338886/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t41 (who was NOT in "Heat". Apparently had a small part in "The Usual Suspects" though....
Thank you! RoboCop 2, despite being the lesser film, has always been my favorite. It suffers from what I've called "Batman syndrome" where the title character gets less screen time than his antagonist(s). That said, when Murphy is on screen, he literally shines and gets some great character moments. We got the trademark stomp from the car door, Murphy is humanized, and that blue sheen is slick as fuck. I've been singing praise for this films opening as one of the best/most badass ever for as long as I can remember. Been waiting a while for this one boys. Once again, thank you. (RoboCop has been my favorite fictional character since I was 3)
Remeber watching Robocop 2 as a kid and loved the Robo-Kain fights but seing old, homeless women being mugged in the streets and bent, drugs dependant cops being tortured to death really upset me Even now the overall tone of the movie is depressing. From the score to the meaness of some characters is too much, it leaves a cloud of cynical depression lingering over you
I think this movie would have benefited from Dr Fax being a Clarence Boddicker groupie who resurrects him as Robocop 2. Sure it’s ridiculous but it’d be twisted as all hell.
the true sequel to Robocop lies in the discarded script entitled ‘Corporate Wars’ written by Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner. google it and you can read the whole thing. the story takes a major turn that many would have not suspected.
Chris- O well spotted Chris. I’ve come to expect better production value from these guys. Maybe we should start a review show in which we review UA-cam review shows!
Keep it comin' love Keep it comin' love Don't stop it now, don't stop it no Don't stop it now, don't stop it Keep it comin' love Keep it comin' love Don't stop it now, don't stop it no Don't stop it now, don't stop it Viva El Presidente!
Still better than Robocop(2014). It's interesting Duncan keeps going back to the Dark Knight trilogy, I remember reading somewhere that Nolan had no intentions of doing a sequel to Batman Begins at the time.
I've always had a soft spot for RoboCop 2. But then Ashens and co semi ruined it for me (in a joking way) - still prefer Ashens draft though: soundcloud.com/sequelisers/episode-2-robocop-2
one thing i hate about this movie is the violence now i don't mind violence or gore in movies but i think this movie doesn't know how to make it entertaining. like the violence in the first movie was so over the top that it was funny and everyone who dies besides Murphy himself had it coming. In RC2 the violence is horrible to watch and almost sadistic. The news report has a guy shot in the back a woman smoking in her babies face. an old woman getting mugged the mugger has his eye stabbed and is assualted a guy gets beaten up outside a cinema. the gunshop owner a guy threatining to shoot a baby. Duffy's tortur the electronics store owner left bloodied and scared
Dunchard Jacksey is back!

The sequel is having.... trouble.
It's not the original, but it's a damn fine sequel. So much fun.
Loved the Halloween III call-out. That alone is an often maligned sequel that taken in isolation is really quite good! Any chance of H3 fellas?
Underated sequel and has so much to bring to the RoboCop mythos. Great casting and I agree, as good a continuation from the original as could be. Yes a little clunky in places but will always hold high regard with me! Great stuff chaps!

Cain was great, but let's face it... he never had the line "we're dead, you stupid SLAG!" did he..?
And Robocop 2 and Gremlins 2 both came in 1990
Robocop should be gratuitous and this is brilliant
The Mayor is brilliant in Robocop 2

Robocop 2 is like Predator 2, not as good as the OG but still a solid film in its own right and unfairly maligned.
You guys are killing it! So good. Keep it going. My new favorite channel.

Gremlins 2 is a joyously creative mini-masterpiece.
Skeleton of Elvis Presley. really random moment in this movie
Cain needed to be recast. He was one of the things that was really dragging this film down for me. I felt someone like Brian Thompson could have done a better job. But maybe they were going for that non-stereotypical juxtaposition of having a skinny meth addict hippie look for the major drug lord in Detroit.
James Carmichael hmm...good point, if Cain were black that would have resonated more on a visceral and philosophical level
My parents took me to the cinema to watch this film. I was 9! Cain/Robocop 2 scared the fuck out of me. I just remember leaving the cinema a bit shook up. Richard, I miss your hair.
Adrian Mendoza Not as much as I do, Adrian. Not as much as I do.
lol. I'm sorry.
Adrian Mendoza Ha! Don't be sorry, I blame God! 🤣
JESUS had days like this
His hair looks lovely...this way.
I'm not sure which of Tom Noonan's characters scared me more when I was young? Whether it was Cain in Robocop 2, or as The Tooth Fairy in the film Manhunter. Bang pfft!

Is this replacing Fix it in Post Flashback?
Basil was probably finalising music for "The Hunt For Red October" maybe that is why he didn't come back to RoboCop until the 3rd one.
Nice 1 guys. I need to rewatch this now...
Hated the sequel as a kid. Started to love it as a teenager.
Those legs tho..
Yum yum yum.
Should call this show “ Men and Their LEGS!!!!” Great show guys keep em coming!

(RoboCop has been my favorite fictional character since I was 3)
Featuring the first utterance of Robocop’s now iconic catchphrase “I’m fine.”
Great review and analysis on a good sequel 👌🏼 Subbed 🙌🏼
That "officer Duffy!" impression is fuckin' awesome =P
Great stuff, really enjoyed this.
Great analysis gentleman, as always. Always annoying when people dismiss RoboCop 2, it's a very underrated sequel (like Predator 2).
Remeber watching Robocop 2 as a kid and loved the Robo-Kain fights but seing old, homeless women being mugged in the streets and bent, drugs dependant cops being tortured to death really upset me

Patience, Lewis. We're only human.
I think this movie would have benefited from Dr Fax being a Clarence Boddicker groupie who resurrects him as Robocop 2. Sure it’s ridiculous but it’d be twisted as all hell.
robo-pcop........still enjoyed the film....."the dead can't sue-but they have relatives,they always do"
Interesting decision to switch over to the black shirt Richard :P
Great discussion guys keep them coming
I like... aspects of Robocop 2.
Not as good as the first one, but no where near as bad as the third. And a whole hell of a lot better then people tend to admit.
Great stuff chaps! Keep them coming!
Yes lads! Keep the momentum rolling.
the true sequel to Robocop lies in the discarded script entitled ‘Corporate Wars’ written by Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner. google it and you can read the whole thing. the story takes a major turn that many would have not suspected.
I wonder why OCP put all those stupid directives in Robocop, which made him almost kill a smoker?
Loving the content. Spot on choices of movies.
Would like to hear their views on Chris Pine leaving Star Trek.
Frellyouall that’s just money...he’ll be back
Cain! Let’s step outside.
Zed did the best cigarette flick in usual suspects
VIVA! (Stern face, air punch).
WHY IS GET CARTER SIDEWAYS???
Chris- O well spotted Chris. I’ve come to expect better production value from these guys. Maybe we should start a review show in which we review UA-cam review shows!
I’m pandering...keep em coming!
Any film that features a guy playing a violin with his mouth, whilst doing the splits is an instant thumbs up 👍🏻
I'm having trouble
Keep it comin' love
Keep it comin' love
Don't stop it now, don't stop it no

in the 3rd robocop movie i swear the ending inspired the dark knight rises
I never saw Robocop 3.
awesome
Please please change the opening beeps sound to something else. I was wearing headphones and went nearly deaf.
DigiTrail It's not *that* loud.
Movie would have been better with Dean Cain as Cain.
I've always had a soft spot for RoboCop 2. But then Ashens and co semi ruined it for me (in a joking way) - still prefer Ashens draft though:
soundcloud.com/sequelisers/episode-2-robocop-2
No three amigos ganging up on Robo 2? NOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooo...........
Look up Gene Kim
The film which broke Kersh.
Peter Greene, Jackson you piece of shit! He's only in one of your fave films ever.. Under Siege 2: Dark Territory :D
