You should look up the daycare COVID policies in Maine. My friend lives there and pays a lot of money for her four year old to attend. The testing/masking/quarantine requirements for these kids is absolutely insane.
Someone needs to call these officials out for the insanity.
Her four year old melted into tears and begged to go home rather than take ANOTHER COVID test.

ZDoggMD, can you stop it with telling people that people are at higher risk due to age, please?
Despite my age and many daily exposures to people diagnosed positive, I never got sick with it.
After several years studying, I finally learned how to solve my problems of obesity and uncontrollable hunger. So when C came, I was ready. I just looked to the research scientists, MDs, and other professionals who I had learned I could trust.
Early in the pan*dumb*ic, those professionals were saying that people, who had low blood vitamin D, were showing up as more susceptible to serious and deadly reaction. So, I made sure to take enough vitamin D3.
Then, there was a peer-reviewed Chinese paper that indicated sufficient blood cholesterol helped. Other research shows that the immune system uses cholesterol as an anti-inflammatory. So, I started eating more eggs every day and continued refusing statins. (I am not giving medical advice to anyone.)
Finally, I looked at the CDC's list of comorbidities and realized that almost all of them are metabolic syndrome diseases (MSDs). MSDs are caused by damage from high blood insulin and/or high blood glucose. So, I continued eating very few grams of carbohydrates per day.
Despite everything, I got severe pressure to get the experimental shots. Harvard University even said on their website that the m r n a ones were completely experimental! I succumbed and got one of the less experimental shots.
Now, I must live with wondering what damage that shot will do to me in the future. I got rid of over 20 health problems from changing what I eat, only to be pressured into taking an experimental shot that research scientists are only now starting to study what happens.
So, please cut it out with the age junk and focus on changing what people eat so that they reverse their MSDs.

If you're healthy and the baby is too, you'll have pretty good odds either way. However, if things go wrong, they can go very wrong very quickly in which life saving decisions need to be made within a matter of minutes. A good midwife can deal with common issues, especially if they are medically certified, and they can help with making emergency plans if needed. Regardless, best of luck.

      "the teacher panicked"
The only thing I could possibly say in the teachers defense is maybe they were paid to panic and ordered to panic.
Other than that, they're not paying attention to science. EVERYONE ALIVE is at risk of dying early of something, probably some stupid mistake, maybe a rare disease.
Children & COVID isn't zero risk but it's low risk, statistically.
Take vitamin D3 to reduce excess inflammatory reaction. Sure thing? No.
I have heard on this channel that inflammation of tissue due to your body's immune response is not only the key source of COVID injury, but I also read it's a factor with influenza .. which sometimes kills healthy athletic kids.
I was taking 2x 5000 iu per day as an adult, but that was possibly too high so I cut back. For a child, I would guess 1x every other day or maybe even as little as once a week. Testing blood levels of D3 is a thing.
It's even more important for Black people who tend to have less vitamin D.
Zinc might help too, but I am also cautious about build up. More isn't better.

As a kid, I didn't do weed even though all my peers were trying it. Needless to say, when the mask policy ended at work THIS WEEK, I dropped it immediately on day one. It was uncomfortable to single myself out initially in a population of coworkers who were almost all wearing N95s prior to the policy change. I went with my son to visit a potential college he is considering. The visit involved students auditioing for a music program at the school. The student guides were wearing masks. Most of the families that arrived with their children wore masks. We did not. After a while, I discreetly inquired about whether or not the school mask mandate was still in effect. One of the students told me that they were asked to wear masks while the auditions were going on. Another parent actually heard me ask the question and after the student had gone, he looked at me (maskless) and immediately took off his mask. I am happy that he did but I am saddened that he felt the pressure to mask up because everyone else was. I still feel a little off when I am around folks that want to mask up but not enough to cave. Seems a lot of people who have been the most worried over the last two years have been the people who don't understand risk. Around here, people put on a mask to walk around the coffee shop, but then sit next to a strange without a mask on. Young people seem in many cases to be the most scared about covid even with their much lower risk.

Funny reality check on parachutes. The SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule started with 3 parachutes, and now has 4 after results they were not happy with, and _extensive_ testing, both of the 3 chute test rigs (and original Dragon cargo vessel in actual flights), and then of the 4 chute version. Every single use is recorded, and data gathered. Friends I have who jump out of perfectly good airplanes-are careful about their chutes, and take backups, just in case of failure. If you hand a skydiver a backpack and tell them it's a chute-they'll check it before jumping out of an aircraft wearing it.

I’m a lymphoma patient for 3 1/2 years and still in treatments. I’m on a few private lymphoma cancer pages where we can discuss our treatments and mainly encourage other cancer warriors. Whenever a patient writes in tears that their insurer just dropped them, their insurer won’t cover necessary treatments, they’ve lost their homes to pay for treatments, and many more heartbreaking stories, we from Canada, NZ, UK and Australia all know right away that these patients are from the US. You are so right talking about the extreme stress on cancer patients. There are many who just stop their treatments because there’s no money left and they accept death. It is so wrong that a country as great as the US is allowing this to happen.

I’m a school teacher in Canada. I’m 57 years old, chose not to get vaccinated as I was a bit weary at first of a new technology. I weighed out my risk. I’m not obese (in excellent physical shape) not diabetic, don’t have high blood pressure, etc. I originally chose not to so I could see how it played out. It was soon pretty evident (looking at Israeli data) that it didn’t prevent the spread. I taught with my mask off (in class) through Delta and Omicron so the students could read my lips and because I hated wearing it. I’ve never been symptomatic throughout all the waves. I’ve never been afraid of Covid, period. That teacher who singled out that student in Zdogg’s daughter’s class should be reprimanded. Where the hell has compassion, understanding and inclusivity gone, especially in the educational environment? I’ve followed Zdogg from the beginning and I have much respect. He’s shown himself to be very humble and malleable as the newest data came forth.

In 2006 three babies died in the NICU at Methodist hospital Indianapolis because they were overdosed with heparin. The drawer in the NICU that contained the heparin the nurses used for flushing lines was inadvertently stocked with a much higher concentration of heparin. No employee lost their job over this. I heard a speaker from Methodist at a seminar talk about how it was handled and always looking for process improvements.
Second comment. I retired after 45 years working in transfusion services. Any time our computer system asked you for an “ override” you about had a coronary because it was telling you something was amiss. SHAME on any manufacturer that puts out an IT product that caused override fatigue!!!! They should be held culpable as well as the institutions that purchase such a flawed product!!!

3 babies before the mistake was realized and corrected? I'm sorry but how does that happen? Wouldn't the first baby's death trigger some sort of investigation, with an autopsy? And wouldn't that lead investigators to the heparin drawer mixup?
Maybe I am being naive, I've never worked in a hospital.
How does that get explained to the parents? So sad.

@@MK-ih6wp It all happened within a shift. There are ways to reverse the effects of heparin, however premature babies present a very complex scenario. Multiple nurses pulled the heparin from the drawer. Yes, it was absolutely tragic and everyone involved felt horrible. The object of my post was there are system failures in any organization, healthcare is no exception . This hospital took a long hard look at all of its procedures after this tragic event but did not fire the nurses involved.

Japan has no vaccine mandates and is very upfront that people educate themselves on the pros and cons of taking the vaccine and doesn't hide the fact that side effects are a possibility. As a politically Independent atheist in the Bay Area. I'm becoming increasingly saddened and horrified at the creeping piety in matters of public health. I'm healthy, low risk and not an 'essential' worker, but a main motive for getting vaxxed and boosted was simply to avoid the hospital and 'health care' system! In my experience, it's not care, it's treatment, by turns invasive, degrading and alienating, for the insured or not. I avoid it if at all possible. It's worth the extra health measures.
