If every human being experienced Leonard Cohen's music we might live in a better world. He was an amazing talent and mind. For those of us who have experienced him he will never be forgotten. We all must pass his legacy on to our children and make sure they do the same. RIP Leonard you were and still are a legend!

This song is a time machine! Such a great track. I love his poetry also. My parents got to see him in concert, despite his songs generally sounding sad they said he was so warm to the crowd and did repeated encores. I’m jealous, but the fact they were fans meant I got to listen in the car as a child.
So now whenever I hear this song, it reminds me of being in the car when my family were all still together, going on some long distance trip. I would sit in the back seat looking out at the scenery around me, watching the sunset turn into a starry blanket. I would be silent with everyone else asleep apart from my dad driving. It was so peaceful. I had my whole life ahead of me and not a care in the world.
Love how songs can be like a time machine. I hear it and can hardly believe where the years have gone. Now I’m 31, family all gone our own paths and this wonderful artist has passed, yet it feels like no time has passed. Thankyou Mr Leonard Cohen. May you forever rest in peace reunited with Marianne.

This man was an absolute genius. His mind is hard to comprehend. And what his music touches parts of my souls I didn’t even know existed. Just unreal. I’m a poet, and a pretty damn good one I’ve been told. I don’t need to be told, it’s obvious. When I read one of my poems, it don’t mater how many times I’ve read it I’m always amazed that came out of me. I don’t even know where it comes from or how it happens. Everyone is truly affected when they hear one. I’ve come from trauma and pain and serious addiction. Needles, meth, heroin, morphine, coke, crack, you name it I’ve been addicted to it for twenty five years. Three years clean now. I guess that’s where the poetic words come from, my journey out of the darkness. It was my healing journey in poem form. But this guys a poetic genius as well as musical genius. I wish I had that much depth and wisdom and heart and soul. Just reading the comments it’s refreshing to know how people who truly understand what meaningful music is, are also very very deep and intelligent people. You guys, just wow. A whole bunch of deep poetic genius’ yourselves. Love being a part of this kind of community. Even if it’s just online with strangers, it matters. Thanks for your music Mr. Cohen and thanks to your fans for obvious reasons. Almost forgot, this is my favourite song in the world. It’s the greatest song ever written and preformed. Every single person needs to turn out the lights and close their eyes and listen to this on a beautiful system. I mean really listen. I can’t imagine a human being not affected by this. I wouldn’t want to know anyone who isn’t.

+nick taylor I only found LC in the last couple of years. I'm still discovering everything and keep going back to my favorites. No other artist has ever touched me like he does. I've had times where I'm just lying in the dark listening to him, and literally cry because it's just so beautiful. I love his voice and his words, but the music itself - the singing of the violin, the harmonies of his voice with the ladies (especially Sharon, her voice is so incredible), it's like the music itself takes me on a journey. I can't describe it, but I think only other fans can really know how it feels. It's unlike anything else. There is literally nothing else, nobody else, like him. :)

    Who writes poetry like this?
    "I smile when I'm angry,
    I cheat and I lie,
I do what I have to,
    To get by,
But I know what is wrong,
And I know what is right,
And I'd die for the truth,
    In my secret life"
Such a well experienced human emotion, described in a way that is almost unreal.
If God needed a lyricist, Leonard Cohen would be the man!

I don't know how many of you know that Leonard Cohen was, (not surprisingly), an accomplished poet. Here is one of his poems that I adore entitled "My Mother Asleep":
    remembering my mother
    at a theater in Athens
    thirty
    thirty-five years ago
    a revue by Theodorakis
    those great songs
    she fell asleep
    in the chair beside me
    in the open-air theatre
    she had arrived that day
    from Montreal
    and the play started
    close to midnight
    and she slept through
    the mandolins
    and the great songs
    I was young
    I hadn't had my children
I didn't know how far away
    your love could be
    I didn't know
    how tired you could get

Rythian Black Leonard Cohen most certainly did believe in God! What are you stupid? Or you just don't pay attention? SO MANY of his songs are about GOD. If you misunderstood the songs you can watch the interviews about each individual song and hear from Leonard Cohen's own mouth what his songs are about!!! His final album he sang YOU WANT IT DARKER. Listen to the words. He is telling GOD Hineni I'm ready My Lord. (Here I am. I am ready.) Also he was a direct descendant of Aaron. He was Jewish but he TRIED HARD to learn and understand other religions.☮️☮️🖤🌹
