- A Russian local official has confirmed the death in action in Ukraine of Maj Gen Vladimir Zavadsky, reported by pro-Kremlin sources last week.
Voronezh Governor Alexander Gusev said Maj Gen Zavadsky, 45, died "in the line of duty" but gave no further details.
On Wednesday it was reported that he had killed by a mine, but there were conflicting reports about where this happened.
He is the seventh Russian general known to have died in the Ukraine conflict.

Following the atrocities committed by the Putin regime against the Ukrainian civilian population, Parliament agreed on Wednesday to declare Russia a state sponsor of terrorism.
The plenary session approved a resolution on the latest developments in Russia's brutal war of aggression against Ukraine.
The text highlights that the deliberate attacks and atrocities committed by Russian forces and their subsidiary agents against civilians in Ukraine, the destruction of civilian infrastructure and other serious violations of human rights and international law "constitute acts of terror against the Ukrainian population." and war crimes. For this reason, MEPs recognize Russia "as a State that promotes terrorism and as a State that uses terrorist means."
Need for a legal framework in the EU
Currently, the EU cannot officially designate states as sponsors of terrorism, so Parliament calls on the EU and its Member States to establish the appropriate legal framework and consider adding Russia to that list. This would trigger a series of major restrictive measures against the included countries and would have profound implications for the EU's relations with Russia.
Meanwhile, MEPs urge the Council to include the Russian paramilitary organization "Wagner Group", the 141st Special Motorized Regiment, also known as Kadyrovites, and other Russian-funded armed groups, militias and proxies, on the list of organizations EU terrorists.
Further isolate Russia and complete the ninth EU sanctions package
Parliament wants the European Union to further isolate Russia internationally, including with regard to Russia's membership in international organizations and bodies such as the United Nations Security Council. MEPs also pledge to reduce diplomatic relations with Russia, reduce contacts with official Russian representatives to a minimum, as well as close and ban Russian institutions linked to the state, such as Russian centers of science and culture and organizations and associations of the diaspora. -, which promote Russian state propaganda.
In the context of the Kremlin's increasing acts of terror against Ukrainian civilians, the resolution further calls on Member States to quickly complete their work for a ninth sanctions package against Moscow.
MEPs encourage EU countries to take measures to prevent, investigate and prosecute maneuvers to circumvent existing sanctions. They also want them, together with the European Commission, to consider possible measures against countries that try to help Russia circumvent restrictive measures already in force.
The resolution has been adopted by 494 votes in favor, 58 against and 44 abstentions.
For more information on the designation of States as sponsors of terrorism and similar legal frameworks in other countries, please consult the document prepared by the European Parliament Research Service.

The BBC coverage on the Ukraine war has been pathetic. There should be daily reports on this historic struggle for freedom by Ukraine and the BBC seems to want to hide from reporting on it. As usual the BBC obsession to appear neutral blinds it from reality and one wonders how they would report if the UK were in a conflict.
BBC is deliberately selective on their reporting on one Russian general killed who is in fact the 7th killed Russian general in the conflict and that is a major blow to the Russian Army and a gamechanger in Putin's war. When one looses credibility like the BBC they can say whatever they want...

It can be assumed that he did not die after falling out of the window, as strange deaths in Russia do. In the Russian army, it is strange that top officers die on the front. Generally, generals plan strategies and tactics somewhere other than the front line.

In Western armies, orders are distributed to the lower ranks, and the thinking mans soldier, mostly sergeants take on the constructive task of fighting the war.
