    • @skinwalkermc9540

It wasn't cancelled. It ended. Sorkin had a story to tell, and he told it. He chose to end it there. In addition, IIRC it was extremely straining on the actors because he didn't have a full script written in advance. they would get the script, read it, learn it, and shoot it in something like a week.

This show sucked because it suffered of the same as West Wing, or anything Sorkin touches. All it does is makes white liberals feel good, that decency is enough to change people's minds, and that news stations are paragons of truth and justice and morality if they just choose to. It's idealistic, and all it does is give stupid liberals the phony idea that they can change republicans minds.

In my university years, i encountered this show, and i simply fell in love with it. after so many years, we are at the bottom. populism around the globe, pandemic, failure of democratic processes regarding public safety, economic policies and now war... I simply wanted to watch this show again, remember the happiness of feeling that you're not alone when you hope for more ethical and appliable approaches, and people with more courage to behave accordingly. all the comments below are precious. people who wrote those are precious. keep yourself safe everyone. we are not alone. thank you.

You are a part of something important. You get to impact the lives of the people you come in contact with everyday and change their lives for the better. Those are the actions that change the world. I don't know why that gunman shot congressman Giffords that day but I do know that it didn't come from a place of love. Perhaps if one person had taken the time to show him kindness, to teach him tolerance, to model empathy, to have shared a smile he might've made a different choice that day. We know that we're the result of our choices. Our choices are impacted by our environment and our interactions with others. If you understand that then you know the smallest actions often have huge ramifications and that the most impactful, most important thing we can do is to model the highest human behaviours and share that with others, thereby changing the world.

I remember this distinctly. I was working for a small newspaper at the time. We got our US and International news briefs from AP, which also announced that Giffords was dead. I remember refreshing the AP newsfeed again and again as news trickled in...it took some time for the fact that she had survived to come through, then we had to change the story on our pages, which luckily had not yet gone to press. CNN, MSNBC etc., often get their first reports from AP in cases like this because AP has stringers on the ground, which the large networks don't always have, so like us, they reported Giffords as dead intially. I never held it against AP, though. Up until about ten years ago, a gunshot to the head could be presumed to be a death sentence. Had I been in the AP reporter's position I might also have jumped to that conclusion. It is a miracle of modern medicine that she survived.

This is a great scene but the Coldplay song is smothering the acting and it's mixed way too loud. The scene has been edited to the song and not the way around, to the emotion of the moment and acting. Although shows using popular songs to amplify end scenes is not a problem that starts and ends its application on The Newsroom. This scene would be much better if there was some neutral score accentuating the performances.

Turn down the bloody background music, man! It doesn't bring more tension and suspense to the video. It disturbs.

I know this scene is bulls__t but nevertheless it's a brilliant piece of work - a show that was clearly written and acted by Leftists but still an extraordinarily good show.

Yeah, they reported the news, something all other networks failed to do in a rush to declare the poor woman dead.

@Gonewiththewind Unfortunately idealism doesn't mesh well with realism. I understand that there shouldn't be immense pressure to get the story straight and get there first, not saying what you don't know to be true. But this isn't just exclusive to news corporations. This is basically how real life works in less formal settings. Wanting to have the best or most entertaining story regardless of the truth in said story is what leads to people being more popular.
Content driving ratings is unfortunately all too common. I doubt any amount of idealism from those of us with no say in the matter is going to change things. No matter how much we want it to.
