@@viennnne Using books completely in the language is honestly very good, its very repetitive on what it is asking (depends on the book), is it gonna be a pain to look everything up at the beginning YES. But its worth at the end.
I wish I used those books. My one textbook was soooo expensive because we needed the online part of it as well so we could do our homework. It was so expensive that I almost considered not taking a French class.
Dan
This is a just-in-time tip, after going through so many French courses with poor results I just happen to be looking for books that work the magic. Thank you for the recommendation.
"Communications" series is really good. The exact one you introduced helped me to integrate my life at Paris. "B2/C1" by Miquel is superb -- the part on "comportements" is fantastique; while I found "C1/C2" of Rachine et Schenker a bit struck up, especially the "Faire une dégustation de vin." Well, OK...
I wish French texbooks publishers would creat textbooks like Get’s Set Go. I have been looking at so many textbooks for kids and none of them are as good. Get Set Go has lots of dialogues in comic format, very good to learn to speak and easy to understand what is going on.
Geraldine, thank you for this lesson. I think the reason I'm not improving too much at the moment is because I miss the written word. So will look out for these books. Dan
Thank you Geraldine, very helpful. In english an “exercise book” is an empty notebook that you write in. What you were showing us were “text books”. If only my french was half as good as your english.
I would call these "workbooks" rather than "textbooks". A similar series from an English-based publisher (the Practice Makes Perfect series) are described as workbooks.
There are a few components to teaching yourself to talk French online . A place I found that successfully combines these is the Magic language method (google it if you're interested) without a doubt the most helpful resource that I've seen. Check out the great information .
Bonjour Ms Geraldine: I do love your channel so much and Thank you so much for your recommendations . I also wanted to ask you if you know a good french English dictionary that you can recommend me ?
Thank you for the video! If I am a complete beginner learning French and I want to teach myself, is the beginner book good? I noticed that it is all in French.
They have a level for super beginners called "Débutant Complet". I jumped straight to "Débutant" because I already knew a bit of French, and I use it together with the answer book. It's not that difficult really, the explanations are tailored to people who understand close to nothing. You might just need to make use of a dictionary when you don't understand something. Learning a language takes effort, after all
Sorry, I found them and I will link them below: Orthographe Progressive Du Français : amzn.to/3iKsFpN Communication Progressive Du Français : amzn.to/33PGC18 Grammaire Progressive Du Français : amzn.to/30Mhiat Vocabulaire Progressif Du Français : amzn.to/2PM5vCQ
this video is exactly what i needed!! i’ve looked at three different videos and all of them had the intermediate grammar workbook you showed so i think i’m settled on getting that one but do you think i need to get that exact version? i’ve seen that they’ve made a few newer versions of the same book but i don’t want to get a newer one if it’s not as good obviously haha. if anybody knows the answer to this please let me know!!
The latest edition of the intermediate grammar includes online exercises, which is a nice bonus. They are similar to the exercises in the book, but are self-marking. I'm not sure if it's best to do the online exercises at the same time as the book (i.e. finish a chapter in the book, then do the online exercise), or save them up for review later.
M E R C I Michel
I hate textbooks. I have never seen one that wasn't boring. The only exception is the Communication progressive du français. There are also free video versions available on UA-cam.
I cheat, when reading French. I have Google translate so when I get stuck on a word I don't know I will translate it. Sometimes I have to look at the third level translation before I get the context.
you could also try context.reverso.net, it's free, it gives you the pronunciation as well, plus lots of sentences in both your mothertongue and the target language

I'm at an intermediate level learning to build my French vocabulary and sentence structure to write formidable essays, personal statements and buisiness letters in French. Are there any certain work books or reference books perfect for this?
1. 2:51 Orthographe
2. 6:28 Communication
3. 8:38 Grammaire
4. 10:09 Vocabulaire
All these books are what we use in my university! They're amazing books and I highly recommend them!
I agree :)
How do you understand them if they are all in French? Is there any English in them?
vienne murray no english is in these books. You probably should use them with an instructor if you’re a complete beginner.

Any books contain pronunciation, speaking, listening as similar as a Cambridge English book? many worlds are hard to speak
