      I do believe that they are using " communication issues" to address the police directions to the residents . Speaking of " communication issues " just listen to the released 911 tapes .. the women maning the phone lines were completely clueless..among other things giving people false hope that they were sending someone to pick up their "homebound" loved ones when that was an utter impossibility..way to many things to be swept under the carpet ..just saying ...

    I’ve noticed that the recovery videos and the meetings with the local government have been scrubbed with little to no information being posted on UA-cam.
    I appreciate your uplifting video but I can feel the anger and frustration all the way in Oregon where I live.

      My son's home has somewhat minimal damage, but they are having to stay in a resort until water can be restored. I am the FATHER in the video and as stated in the video you skipped over -- I lost everything. Was on Luakini Street (oh, sorry ... I forgot ... you've never been to Maui) and I lost an apartment, contents, car and we carried my long-time neighbor, Freeman, to the seawall so he could die there. My wife and I have been 3 months at the Outrigger with a three-month extension. Please place your heart somewhere else. I'm glad it's not close to us.

    Please everyone, remember the point of the video. All i was pointing out is that we were given timelines about when certain things would happen, and all of them happened faster than expected. I only stated facts about my situation. I understand that families who lost their house haven't seen much change yet, but one step at a time. Hopefully progress will continue to happen faster than expected, because so far it has, that's all I'm pointing out. I'm not trying to peddle for any politician, or minimize what still needs to happen, or talk about the children, etc.....once my wife and I can live in our house again we have two extra bedrooms to house other locals who need long term support. These are small victories, I understand. But we have to start somewhere, Should I just drown in negativity??? Or try and show a little optimism if I see it. My wife teaches first grade and the stories she comes home with are horrific. We've cried ourselves to sleep. So please forgive me, in your heart, for trying to share facts that might seem optimistic.

And trust me red cross deals with people walking around the lobby at all hours of the night. Just ask them. Don't take my word for it. Ask them. I dare you. Aloha Steve. Thanks for watching & commenting. Pres. Biden signed a proclamation within 6 hours. FEMA & American Red Cross have come and housed over 8,000 in 41 hotels. Money has flowed. Red Cross just distributed an additional $2,500.00 to everyone. No One -- NO ONE -- in the hotel here has complained about a lack of money to those that were directly affected within the Burn Zone. The Gov Green said there is money for up to 18 months. What I wish you would be angry about, is the hundreds here at the hotel from Kahului and Wailuku that live and work outside of West Maui. They ran to Kaanapali, got a FEMA & Red Cross number and live here for the money & free food and housing. Really sickening. But nothing we can do. Red Cross estimates the local Maui community committed about 20% fraud of the money that was supposed to go to Burn Zone victims. Best Aloha Wishes.

And still no news of what happened to all the missing children.

    • @skipscott5617
      @skipscott5617 8 місяців тому +3

      the fact that our neighborhood was built with all the new regulations really helped, but even still we did have 25 units in our neighborhood burn, and fire damage is evident all over , so it didn't exactly bounce over us completely. But the real answer to your question has to do with the wind. The wind was so strong right in that part of the valley it was changing the direction of the fire by the minute, I have video proof of this as I was evacuating. Ever been in 100 mph winds before? Just imagine trying to control a campfire in 100 mph winds, it''s not possible.

      @@skipscott5617 Mahalo for your response. And about that wind "supposedly" from hurricane Dora who was located over 500 miles away from the islands, how did those strong winds impact that section of west Maui and not have that kind of impact in West Hawaii? Kona was not windy that day and we never got any high wind warnings either. In fact, I never heard of Hurricane Dora until it was mentioned for Maui which is so strange since Hawaii island has taken many hits from hurricane storms in the past. So what kind of fireproof materials were used on your homes in Kahoma Village? Are your roofs shingled or corrugated iron? Are your walls concrete?

    • @MauiTravelVideos
      @MauiTravelVideos  8 місяців тому +2

      Aloha. It certainly did not "bounce" over the 2,000++ acres and many homes that were totally destroyed in KULA, long before the fires even started in Lahaina Town. Critical resources were heading to that major fire which continued to burn for many days, even with big-time helicopter assistance. Also, we had smaller fires all over Haleakala that had to be handled. No "bouncing" going on up there. Oh - Kahoma Village is across the street from Lahaina Gateway and a major shopping complex. It's not across from Wahikuli at all, the ocean is. In the middle of Wahikuli is a church completely in-tact, among many structures destroyed. In my building, the unit next to me was not touched, but the rest of us lost everything. I think Goddess Pele often said: "No, not that unit."

      All people have to do is look at the damage done to the ADP Towing company and that brand new 5 story housing complex ( North of the Mormon Church that was left completely untouched by fire ) with absolutely nothing to the North of them that could have sent " embers " towards them to understand what happened on August 8th was completely unnatural. The problem is that most people don't look at all the aerial drone footage to see how completely unnatural the damage is. To be fair to these men, they are just trying to stay positive inside a horrible situation. I understand why people are afraid to consider technological arson as a possible cause of the fires that day. I would just let these people be happy with however they choose to cope. If they want to believe these fires were " natural ", let them. They're coping the best they can.

As the Security Officer at Outrigger Kaanapali (Old KBH) I'm disgusted by the hundreds housed here from Kahului and Wailuku that just "heard" about the disaster and came running for the benefits., The Red Cross has been ridiculously taking care of people that live and work outside of West Maui. As I showed in the picture, many lost everything including me and my wife. I wish you well but please stay informed.

      I lost my house in Santa Barbara and my insurance company who I have been paying for 20 years screws me in the backside and shorts me on funding because I was "under insured". And then as soon as we rebuilt they dropped us and the bank was on our ass because we weren't insured and they gave us 30 days to get it resolved. The whole thing was an absolute nightmare!

      Aloha Jill. Pretty simple actually, as the 70mph fire moved quickly over trees and leaves that were very green and full of water [versus] dry, old, termite infested wood that was "ripe" for burning. Live vegetation like our famous Banyan tree survived. If it was the other way, it would be totally weird. Green stuff just does not burn real well. It's fantastic there are residents of West Maui, who still have a structure which is their original home. They still have their cherished personal possession. Those residents who have that stable base, are now getting back on your feet, that's so good. It's also about people who do not have their homes, it's been months of grief, their life completely turned upside down insecurity. They return to the land where their home once stood & all there is a place of destruction, loss, burnt out Ashes!... still.. unchanged !!!! What use is utilities to those people where there is no home! They may have temporary accommodation to retreat to each day, but that is instability, uncertainty. Life for them is so incredibly stressful, accompanied by PTS as a result of surviving the fires. Possibly have no job to return to due to fire. Sure they may be receiving financial assistance, but to be productive, to participate in community, to have a job can restore, a sense of normality, a sense of self worth, a sense of control for your own life.
    Each resident has a different experience & a different way of coping with this tragedy. No individual experience can be underestimated.
    God bless you all in Maui.

      you are right debra, this is skip here, i am one of the lucky ones, and i was very fortunate. and even when i do return to my home, there is still no town around me. So the tragedy doesn't stop there. I have my home, but all the places I went to eat, shop, have a mai tai, are still gone. But I will tell you this, once the few of us who do have homes are able to return, we plan on helping those who don't have their homes as much as possible. It's not a lot, but my wife and I have two extra bedrooms that we can't wait to open up to locals who need a place long term to get their life back on track. That's all we can do. I wish we could do more. Everything you say is true, trust me, most of my friends are in this position, but we also have to take small victories where we can. you gotta win battles to win a war

      @@sarahrose4126You do realize that the fire just has to be close enough to kill shrubbery, right? It doesn't actually have to "catch fire" to scorch or kill. Nothing nefarious in that. Lol.
      Also many have been digging through the rubble of their burnt homes for weeks now. If anything was being covered up or hidden, it's not now. Like this guy said, if you can prove you had property in the area, you can go to it pretty easily.
      Here is an explanation for why some things burnt and some didn't. Huge water tanker trucks went into neighborhoods and sprayed down houses. The only thing messed up with that is, only the people that had money to pay for those water tanker trucks to come in got a house now. There are videos of that happening.

We keep praying for everyone in Maui and pray for justice to be served.

      Monday - all schools were closed due to high winds in the 40mph range. Electricity was lost from Mahinahina to the resorts in Ka'anapali. Fortunately, no power lines fell igniting fires. Fires are very commonplace on an island, as it's almost impossible to put-out with fire equipment. If you lived on an island, you would understand many more things. In the meantime, "Hold Your Hammer .... Keep Looking For Nails." You will find your agenda.

Not a thing touched by flames. Care to explain, since ya'll are so informed? He wanted to die in the unit. He was born on Maui and lived his whole life here. We took him to the seawall to pass-away. I watched our building burn, along with all the buildings you mentioned. No everything is not all right. But we are in the "recover" mode, with a LOT of the basics starting to be restored. @MauiTravelVideos  8 місяців тому

      Aloha Negative. Thanks for watching. Good questions. Having been here almost 20 years, I do know that wildfires are an annual and often occurance on this island, and really on any island. It's the winds. We keep cool with our tradewinds and anyone on an island knows this. High winds caused the Kula fire to consume over 2,000 acres and many homes (but no deaths) long before the Lahaina Town fire. Our resources were upcountry and the helicopters where there while the fire started on the west side of Maui. Good Question and worth more exploration. Thanks and Best Wishes.
