I'm new to climbing and right away I found myself frustrated with my single flip line and went looking for a 2 way device. Found the Gibbs and bought it. But as soon as I got it home and set up I regretted it because I realized it is still not one-handed. thanks for the demo
This will be better than sweating it out hugging a tree that is bigger than a pole or leaning a bit trying to get my pole strap around it. Great demonstration thanks for the link.
Do you have issues with the Gibbs self slacking when you are flipping up the tree, if so did you solve it it are you resetting the tension each time you put your weight on it?
Thanks for this video Jacob Why do you prefer to attach the gibz klimbair to your saw side as opposed to your left side harness D-ring? I am experimenting with the Klimbair and I am comfortable flipping ambidextrous and using two flip lines as well as the monkeys paw at the seat and seat and saddle/swami intersection, so I wonder what’s the most efficient and why I might chose one 2 in 1 flip line anchor point (left or right, d-ring or cats paw) over the other FYI, I am using a monkey beaver saddle And I have a fixed bridge along with and adjustable bridge So far this is advantageous because sometimes I am in the short trees with more girth than they have height, and there is a lot of limb walking I use a top rigged climb line to my unicender, and the adjustable bridge And I keep the long tether attached as a positioning line to the shorter fixed bridge This allows me to float the unicender around face level and/or on my chest harness clip by using the adjustable bridge and the tether can be adjusted on center line from the short fixed bridge slightly lower and still center line with most any low pro rope grab device Leaving my large monkey paw location and my d-rings available for flip line attachment locations Thing is that the adjustable bridge petzl micro grab has potential to interfere with possibly the gibz klimbair or the unicender I will have to rewatch this video and see exactly how you have your zig zag rigged, possible I can answer my own location but I think this video is from before you got the monkey beaver saddle, dunno Really appreciate the videos and could use some insight Thanks in advance
I'm unsure how I'd like that for line clearance, but it is a sweet device. I find myself placing my climb system on my bridge D rings, making it another lanyard!
Serious question. Seeing you swing the slack end of flipline around the trunk while still bucked in... Could you "double loop" yourself ... Instead of disconnecting the lower buckle? I am just thinking additional safety... As two loops around the trunk better than one... Without any other rope attachment?
Totally awesome episode! Im just awaiting my gear looking forward to getting up in the trees. Have a question for you how long did it take you to learn to trust your equipment to feel confident in it and not second guess it? Thanks for all you do Aloha from the Great Lakes USA
Got one, and used it on a practice climb to get used to it, could not for the life of me figure out how to tend slack with it, thanks for the video and will have to give it anouther try using that method
I like it but can you rappel like on a Bola or Zillion? I have and use both and it is nice to adjust position without needing to get slack before cutting.
@@guiltyoftreesoneastsidetre4792 Just ordered one. Thanks for the review. Is it best with any type of lanyard? It says use 1/2 inch on the device. It probably would benefit from 2 swivel snaps?
I'm not afraid of heights per se, but it's always freaked me out a bit how many single points there are that if any one of them failed, you'd have a big problem.
Im new to climbing. Only been actually in trees about 1.5 months. Been a ground guy for a good while. Anyways, im starting to buy gear and what im asking is I noticed you bounce between a unicender, zigzag plus etc.. could you do a video better explaining the best mechanical unit for a "do all" if I were to only have one. As well as benefits uses etc of all of them? Like a comparison style i guess..? Appreciate all the videos and knowledge brother im in Vancouver WA and maybe well run across one another some time. Stay safe brother and Appreciate the knowledge and entertainment... 🤙🤙
can you used this technique, when you are doing a tree removal and you are cutting the logs, incase you cut the flipline you still have another attachment point ? thanks you in advance
I have one and I’m honestly not a fan of it. It’s nice for climbing over limbs but I have at it come lose and slack the lanyard on me when moving around and trying to get into position. I feel like it takes a lot of extra effort to hold your body weight with one hand while adjusting the slack as well.
Yo Jacob - been looking at this Gibbs cam and like it. What length lanyard are you running out of interest? I’d guess 5m odd is needed to double lanyard technique like this? Cheers man
I am really enjoying your informational videos and how you sharing your passion being an Arborist. You are so entertaining! If you can chat more about wedges vs rope in tree vs pushing it over with a machine?? How do you get the rope in the tree? Climb, or throw bag/rope or crane? Just curious. Also the Crew is great, too! Thank you
Isn't it dangerous when you don't have any branches? If you slip the rope loop around the tree won't hold you, because there isn't any tension on the rope and you will just keep falling, am I right?
That looks like a smooth system I will have to try it!! Also waiting for the square chisel grinding video. I have a chain grinder but I don't know if it will do a grind like that. May have to get the special file!!! I don't file well been trying for a long time just don't seem as sharp as a ground chain.
That's some expensive gear. I saw some arbor gear at a pawn shop near me guy wanted a fortune for it. Wanted something for hanging tree stands but damn he wanted too much for used stuff. Nice video. You got it down pat.
Great video , if the clips where fluro and different in coloured and also if the other half of the flip line was also different colour .Only a suggestion
Hey GoT, do you still use this? Did you ever have any issues using it on a steel core flipline. I was about to buy one but was reading that Gibbs says that it should not be used with "steel rope". I have a feeling they mean "steel cable". Any feedback or what you use now in place of this would be awesome!!
Fun Dad Adventures, treestuff clarified that wire core 1/2 flip line works with klimair in product vid. I wanted to like the 2in1 lanyard but I lack huge conifers in my area and my soft 2in1 prusik lanyard was a struggle while advancing in my maple tree…probably due to bigger steps between crotches and steeper/bushy limbs. Im still curious about the Klimair in general for the swivel and if it could work with soft rope….
Somewhat interesting that on the device it states "use with 1/2" NON METAL rope". My take on that would be no wire core lanyards. Another take would be don't run straight cable through it...but who tf gonna do that. You are running a steel core. What's your take?
Na I think not greenhorn!, 2 fliplines is the way to go for many different reasons. Make an extra flipline with a piece of new 1/2" arborplex climbing line about 15 feet long with a camlock on it, comes in handy and you can do a lot more maneuvers than with a single double ended flipline.
Not a fan of carrying my climbing line to the top. Especially if not spur climbing. 2 tie-ins are important but so is the ability to descend quickly due to injury, sudden health issue or sudden weather trouble. That’s a lot of end swapping while you hold your life in your left hand. Please carefully consider what you are doing. Climb safe all👍
You really wouldn't like how I climbed power lines for years lol. Just one leather safety. Hold yourself close to the pole with your left hand, unhook your safety with the right hand and let it fall, then hold yourself with your right hand and sling your safety over top the neutral and continue on lol. If the pole is bare when your pulling in wire for example, you pound a lag bolt into the pole and put your safety above that when you get to the top. Remember your doing this while wearing long sleeve FR clothing underneath rubber gloves and sleeves, with leather protectors over the gloves along with rubber over shoes that weigh about 2 pounds over your steel shank, steel toe leather boots and you get to work on 7,200 volts once you get to the top lol. It was the best job ever. Now they make you wear a buck squeeze safety or something similar. Gone are the days of leather safety's.

I Love Your style, Man.
Could You please tell Me the gear that You are using above the Climbair ??
Thanks a bunch !!
Thanks for the video. What did you use over the flimsy split ring that comes with this? A bolt would make me feel better than what came with it
Excellent video! If I'd invented this system I'd never even need to consider climbing a tree!
Thanks for this video Jacob
Why do you prefer to attach the gibz klimbair to your saw side as opposed to your left side harness D-ring?
I am experimenting with the Klimbair and I am comfortable flipping ambidextrous and using two flip lines as well as the monkeys paw at the seat and seat and saddle/swami intersection, so I wonder what’s the most efficient and why I might chose one 2 in 1 flip line anchor point (left or right, d-ring or cats paw) over the other
FYI, I am using a monkey beaver saddle
And
I have a fixed bridge along with and adjustable bridge
So far this is advantageous because sometimes I am in the short trees with more girth than they have height, and there is a lot of limb walking
I use a top rigged climb line to my unicender, and the adjustable bridge
And I keep the long tether attached as a positioning line to the shorter fixed bridge
This allows me to float the unicender around face level and/or on my chest harness clip by using the adjustable bridge and the tether can be adjusted on center line from the short fixed bridge slightly lower and still center line with most any low pro rope grab device
Leaving my large monkey paw location and my d-rings available for flip line attachment locations
Thing is that the adjustable bridge petzl micro grab has potential to interfere with possibly the gibz klimbair or the unicender
I will have to rewatch this video and see exactly how you have your zig zag rigged, possible I can answer my own location but I think this video is from before you got the monkey beaver saddle, dunno
Really appreciate the videos and could use some insight
Thanks in advance

great technique, love the surroundings as well. Are you wearing any special climbing shoes or just with regular profile? Thanks for your response.

I get the "descend quickly" thing but when was his life in his left hand? Maybe I don't understand what you mean by that.
v3124 Every time he transitioned to the other end of his rope, he is holding all the friction with his left hand. 1 mistake there would cause a drop.
