People still buy apple products? I havent been even remotely interested in their products since 2010, when they bought out lala.com JUST to shut down some competition on itunes. They refused to refund me ANYTHING i spent on my account aside from itunes points, despite the fact i was using lala.com to GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ITUNES! FUCK APPLE!
Dear Mr. Rossman. We here at Apple have taken notice of this video, along with various others. Needless to say, out attorneys are on their way to your location as we speak, with lawsuits for what you've been doing, and crowbars to smash your hands, to prevent you from any further doings. Mwahahahaha. Apple is God.
To be honest, it's not just about repair price, it's about ecology as well. Do not forget how much more we pollute Earth by just throwing away every single motherboard that fails, instead of literaly replacing a few components on it :/
I'm impressed that as soon as someone runs out of proper arguments, he starts insulting, just confirming that i'm right

Absolutely - if anything it's just got worse, with more manufacturers - including car manufacturers - jumping on the "make it economically unviable to fix" bandwagon. "No user serviceable parts inside" has gone from being a caution for the unskilled, to a key aspiration of manufacturers, over the last few decades.
Back when I first started getting interested in computers, as a small kid, you would actually buy the computer in kit form, all the components would come in a little bag with circuit diagrams and a board, and you'd solder them on yourself. Sometimes, they'd let you buy the fully assembled computer at additional cost (like the Sinclair ZX80), but it was more fun to build it yourself and you'd learn about how it worked.
Sure you meant to assamble a laptop's motherboard PCB by yourself?

I was a Fixed Operations Director for 20 years with Ford. During that time, all independent repair shops had access to all the repair information that Ford had. The only time a customer is required to service at the Dealer, is during the basic warranty period. The only exception was for emergency repairs where a Dealer was not available. Ford would pay the independent shop for the warranty repairs once approved. I don't understand why the computer repair service should be different under the law.
In one state (Can't remember which one), a carmaker to required by law to make available to the general public all the tools that are made available to a dealer.
Ah, but Tesla's response? "We don't have dealers".
but getting Ford to bring a smaller shop into authorized Ford repair facility was fairly easy
Isnt Ford the company that decided that letting 1 million people die in car fires is better than making a smaller profit? They shouldnt ride the high horse here....
@@thesarariman and Chevy had the Vega.
Ford wont give access to the error codes or manuals in India. They want tou to get it fixed at a authorised dealer. And thats pretty much the same story with all other companies selling cars here in India. So pretty much all the companies are like that. Even Ford
it's like going to the doctor and get a bunch of assessments done just to be told: sorry sir we have to put u down cos we don't cure ppl

I used to love my iPhone's, had them from the 3g to the 7. When my phone stated it had 92% battery capacity it the battery settings then did a IOS update. Right after the update I go snooping around and it tell me I need to replace my battery. The battery died a week later. So I take my happy ass to apple and they try to tell me the phone is junk and needs full replacement....@ FULL RETAIL. I blew the f up into the apple store and ordered the cheapest battery I could get on Amazon. Next day I have my cheap ass battery and toss it in and looky looky the fuckin phone worked.
I used it for another few years then got a new samsung. To do my part in giving apple a fuck you!
How you enjoying the Samsung? A lot of die hard Apple fans have a hard time moving over to Android. They think it’ll be like playing 4D chess or something
@@EggEnjoyer not the same person, but I did the same thing switching to Samsung. I swapped from Apple to Samsung a few years ago and for me it was honestly so much better pretty much instantly. I had almost no trouble getting used to it (and in fact got more used to it then I ever was with my iphone). I actually was able to more strongly integrate my galaxy s9+ into my tech ecosystem since it can be linked to windows 10. I should also say I jailbroke my iphones pretty much any chance I got, so switching to Android honestly made a ton of sense because I hated being locked down on iphone. I don't at all regret switching, and in all my years of having my galaxy s9 I have never had a single issue with it! One of the best decisions I made was ditching apple lol

What do you consider lazy? People who aren't complete fucking morons, and don't do back-breaking work, because they are not intellectually lacking?
SilverEevee - Actually, back-breaking labor does not indicate a lack of laziness IMO. If you are happy doing it, more power to you, but there are a number of people who like to bitch about how little they're getting paid for manual labor that are too lazy to develop more lucrative, marketable skills or get an education in a marketable field. THAT is lazy. The engineer or CEO making lots of money sitting in his posh, air conditioned office worked hard to get there while the lazy field worker just breaks his (or her) back putting forth a LOT of effort but not really accomplishing much work.

When I used to buy expensive HiFi equipment back in the 1970's... you received the unit (amplifier, pre-amp and tuner etc) plus the the owner operating manual. Quite often the owners manual would in include a bolck diagram and even a circuit diagram in certain cases... also a full service manual was offered as an option for a few dollars more if you so desired... I always requested the service manual and would always make it a deal breaker if the selling agent was reluctant to supply a service manual! No way was I going to buy, what was in them days, expensive electronic equipment without the full service information... consumers should never have accepted this premice that manufactuers can keep secret the servicing of the product that they buy.... I won't buy an Apple device for this very reason... they are even building 'go-slo' modes into upgrades to encourage consumers to upgrade to new machines... it's time legislators sorted this out and protect consumers from profiteering manufacuers!
Show me where the government touched you!

Fuck you Apple for producing a product that I am enjoying and still using 10 years after I bought it.
One day it will! Guaranteed! These guys never stop at this line when it comes to slaughter one's wallet.
Apple hates you. You're resourceful, and smart enough to hate getting ripped-off. That's why iphones now have batteries that are soldered-in.
I know as an ex-Apple dealer that Apple is not a computer company, they are a marketing company.
Emerald, Thanks for the chuckle. :-)
Dusty Pulver Bose are a similar type of company, they sell average grade user products at a premium because their logo is attached to it. They are both very good at marketing their crap. They used to make a good product but now it's all shite.
what brand do you think is good in terms of audio quality? (not "over-bass"-ed or just a fancy logo) :)
Claudio Parra If you're asking me, there are a lot of brands that fit the slim parameters you have listed. I need to know a bit more about the kind of sound that you like. Do you like a warm sound or something more neutral? That's a good start. My favourite headphones are my AKG K712 pro, at their price they are amazing headphones. I used to like Sennheiser but even they are now charging a premium for their logo, they still make good products (The HD600 up to HD800 are all fantatstic although expensive for what they are) but they often charge the real value plus a half on top.
Another good set of headphones are the Philips Fidelio X2HR, a different sound to the K712 pro but still pleasing.
Your price range is important too, I could recommend very good headphones in the £150-250 range but the Sennheiser HD range are above this price point.
Beyerdynamic and Audio-Technica are good brands that don't over charge like Bose do.
Beats headphones are absolute junk now.
I also wouldn't ever recommend any wireless headphones no matter what wireless technology they use as it is a compromise and I'd rather have a wire and AAA sound over A sound and no wire but that's me, you might like the freedom of no wires, if that's the case, I can't help you because the last set I used (Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 wireless) weren't anywhere near as good as my cheaper priced wired headphones so I have sworn off of wireless headphones until a time comes when wireless headphones can transmit as much data as a cabke/wire. That day will come but it isn't now.
Another important consideration is how you listen to your music. If you only stream from things like Spotify wireless headphones can handle the data transmission but if you're like me and use FLAC/HI-RES only, wireless headphones can't match wired.
Martyn James, thanks for your reply, I like to say that I prefer a plain response, I am getting into audio mixing, and I would like to count with some accurate headphones, not those kinds of headphones that compromise the clearness of the high freqs just to add bass and make some folks say "wow, what a good bass". Maybe it is a little difficult with a short budget (my accouter says that I don't have money, goods nor even an accounter).
Finally, I totally agree with your wireless point, I've never liked them (and talking about that... crApple again, removing the 3.5mm jack... )
What do you think?
thanks again

Thank you for highlighting Apple's extremely anti-consumer practices, I've been saying this stuff for 10 years now and it's good to see trained individuals fighting for consumers rights in this way, bringing these anti-consumer monopolists to account for their actions.
Apple is not a monopoly, there is plenty of competition. The fact that people willingly purchase their products is because they expect them to improve their life more than the products of the competition (or than not getting a product from either). If people were bothered by how expensive it is to repair Apple products then they would just get a PC or Android.
A salary for "repair" works that aren't repair works and come off in higher costs than the original price of the product. You're fucking stupid.
Pink Guy Yeah, consumer protection laws should only be enacted when there are monopolies. How's life in fairyland?
Even replacing a screen is not that hard. It attaches with strong magnets. You need a screwdriver and about 20 minutes to do the job. Of course it costs more from Apple.
Of course labor should take away a good chunk. We're not communists. The point is the screen is most likely not going to be repaired, but replaced. That might be worth around 400$ for Apple. Another manufacturer might've replaced it for 250. And guys like Rossmann repaired it for 50.
The point is, Apple is not only taking your choice of replacement or repairing, but also in many situations charges "repair" prices (implying repairs) for replacing entire parts for costs that are next to the original vendor prices (which are already higher than what you'd pay in average)
It's not consumer-oriented and therefore subject to criticism.
Hey boss, it looks like some people learned how to replace their hard drives. What do we do?
Solder them to the motherboard. Fuck it, solder everything to the motherboard.
ohh dont forget to resin bond them as well just to make sure it all breaks when you try to remove it. One last thing boss make sure it breaks at the connection to main board or start typing your resume
Sad but true.
😂
With people being so obsessed with how thin their laptops are can you really blame them? BGA mounting cpus and soldering ram and SSDs saves on thickness. Though it would be nice to see Apple do something like Macbook Airs have 13" and 15" variants with everything soldered to save thickness and Macbook Pros still having most things use slots and sockets for upgradability. However even companies like dell are abandoning user upgradability. Its more profitable to make you sell the old one and buy a new device when it starts to show even a llittle bit of age.
Packard Bell used to do that back in the 486 days. Everything was built into the motherboard. I had a bios go out on one once, and it ruined the entire computer. My step brother's custom system had a bios failure and he just bought a new chip for it and was back up and running. Really taught me a lesson about picking systems!

right to repair is a huge issue for farmers who buy a 22 ton $500,000 harvester with just about as many sensors and gadgets as a Lexus, and when something goes wrong, then you have to TAKE it to an authorized dealer/repair guy to read the diagnostics so a $30 sensor can be replaced. So the farmer buys hacked software so he can read the diagnostics himself and repair the harvester himself in the field instead of somehow getting it out of the field it is stuck in, and then getting it onto a trailer and then take it 75 miles into a town that has an authorized dealer, all the while his crops aren't getting harvested...

The reason I pointed out the need for consumer advocates is because I already want to buy things that last, ideally forever.
Nothing last forever, there is wear and tear as well as the change in need. I have clothing that I still wear that are 20 years old, but they eventually wear out. Or in the case of change in need, I need something more professional than my torn jeans and my high school gym shirt for work. Electronics are in essence the same, parts break and I need new hardware to run more powerful programs.
To meet my need, I need and want expert's help to make that choice. Ideally, the expert will point out ease to replace/upgrade parts rather than having to buy whole new equipment.
Encouraging conservation and consumer protection work hand in hand to promote better quality and discourage waste.
spec24 show me a piece of tech that doesn't have a built in obsolescence
Interesting how you have "No repair for you!" in the thumbnail and that brings to mind The Soup Nazi episode of Seinfeld. Now, I actually met Larry Thomas, the actual guy who guest starred as the titular character. When I met him, all my other cameras were dead, so I took out my Nintendo DSi to take a photo of him with his permission. He then told me about his son and his broken Gameboy Advance. His son brought the GBA to him and was pretty upset and asked him to fix it. His son's friend also had a GBA that was broken in a different way. So Larry took the two GBAs and he consolidated the working parts of both GBAs to make one working GBA. After that, his son would excitedly tell people about how his dad "beat Nintendo!" and Larry said to me "you know how when you win a game, you say you beat it? Well my son said that I 'beat Nintendo'!". Wow! If I hadn't ran out of batteries in my cameras, I might have never heard this incredible anecdote! I, myself, have done some pc building and slight repair. I have never dared to repair Nintendo stuff because I had a bad experience with laptops so I couldn't handle more stress with such tightly interconnected systems like that. Your video is inspiring!
I might reply with a personal story about Apple trying to scam my mom and how I fixed everything with 50 dollars and no tools.
Ok, so the Mac Mini story is simple: the Mac Mini was updated by my mom and it stopped working as intended. After updating, the Mac kept malfunctioning and giving error messages about not having enough memory. My mom thought it was HDD storage space related so she was frustrated and making room on the HDD was not helping at all. She took the machine to the official Apple distributor store here, called Jump+ and they told her it would cost her a bit more or less money than a new Mac Mini in order to fix it. She went to Best Buy and bought a new Mac Mini, one with double the RAM and the new OSX version already installed. I was very annoyed to see that she had given away around $1000 dollars to buy a new one when I had already told her that the old one just needed more RAM. Then I told her to keep the new one in its box and that I can fix the old one. She had already opened the box for the new one and the machine was out. It was at that point that I noticed the black disc-shaped panel on the bottom with symbols similar to the ones on a Canon DSLR and lens, the symbols that show you how to detach and attach the lens. There was also two indents on opposite side of the black disc, fingertip-sized. I thought I would try my finger and thumb to twist the disc counterclockwise so the symbol on the disc pointed to to open circle instead of the solid coloured one. Yes, it twisted and unlocked the panel. I quickly twisted it gently back to locked and we packed the new one away in its box. There was a full refund return policy if it was within a week of purchase and the machine was in the same condition. I went to get the old one, unplugged it, turned it upside down and.... Bingo! The disc-shaped panel was on this one too! I unlocked it and pulled it off and THERE WAS THE RAM! I explained to my mom that I could fix the problem by going to Canada Computers and buying new RAM and it would only cost 50 dollars, my estimate from experience buying RAM. We went there, asked for the amount equal to double what was already in the Mac Mini, laptop RAM, and it was exactly 50 dollars and a few cents. I was feeling pretty good that I estimated the right amount of dollars correctly! Back at home, I installed the new RAM into the Mini and my mom tested it by attempting to run the programs that would give her error messages about "low memory". So far it has never malfunctioned again and this is a clear example that Apple deliberately pushed an update that couldn't run properly on the 8 month old Mac Mini but could on the slightly newer one. The newer one was the exact same machine but with double the RAM. The Jump- employees said it was too complicated to repair. Their "repair" was to just replace it with a new unit of the same model or to buy the new model. 2 FINGERS. NO TOOLS. 50 DOLLARS. They prey on the less informed, less computer savvy population! Absolutely despicable!
Love the honesty. Great to hear from a technician who works with these day to day. Older Mac products still running are where I plan to stay as long as I can.
Louis, I rarely put a comment in. Your regard/postering towards Apple makes me absolutely love you. your videos are the best. Never stop producing

Yeah, the information is interesting, but the way he is repairing it makes me cringe.
Iberius Pred are you referring to his repairing rather than just replacing whole boards? or is it something about his technique? I'm genuinely curious.
9HighFlyer9 The way he is flooding the PCB with flux is very amateurish. While it shouldn't do any harm to the pcb, you could be more elegant.
Replacing a solder pad with a piece of battery wire, are you kidding me? There are more proper procedures to repair solder pads. Just use Google.
There are more proper procedures to restore the conductor between circuits than wrapping an electromagnetic wire around the pcb. You could for example chemically redeposit copper to the connector points between the pcb layers if that is what has caused the disconnection.
There are foil jumper kits, through hole repair kits, conductor rework kits among other options, Google is your friend.
It will of course require a bit more work than a botched up repair job like this.

6-8 years for consoles is nothing. so PS4 is vintage now? release date Feb 2014 OMG its 4 years OLD!!! and PS5 according to DigitalFoundry not gonna come till 2020 so PS4 gonna be 6 years old in 2020.. how can we use it now if it so Vintage. Imagine if Sony did same thing as Apple.. new controller? got update and your console is a brick
J P Dude, my 2008 HP Pavilion dv3510nr Laptop would still be in use today (with upgraded storage and RAM) if the Surface Pro wasn't a whole lot more useful, replacing all my needs of it. It came with Vista and easily ran Windows 7, Windows 8 and probably would have run Windows 10 with no problems either.
Now using a 2014 Surface Pro 2 and will be keeping it until something much more useful comes along...
The gpu might not but Sandy Bridge is still great for gaming and that came out in 2011.
When the shitty hard drive they put in my macbook died and they told me it would take 4 days to remove 2 screws and slide the hard drive in, I got a similar response from a pimpled dipshit behind the bar. Me: "It literally takes 45 seconds to complete this repair." Jeanyus: "This product is a professional model, not really intended for hobbyists." You smarmy, elitist, know-nothing little fuck. Fuck you and your warranty, and give me a fucking hard drive. Some of us need our machines to do work.
It's not just Apple, look up John Deere V. Nebraska farmers, John Deere does the same thing, you are forced to go to John Deere to fix your Tractor, as the software to diagnosis and read anything on the tractor is proprietary to John Deere and they are unwilling to give that to anyone.
Hi brother Louise, your honesty is second to non professionally, you're a humble man, nobody can question your job in utmost quality. God bless you. Stay safe.

Most pointed comment in this video: "When was the last time you saw a soldering station inside an Apple Approved Service Provider?"
Scott Beaton I'm going to go with "Some things just must be lived with"
Apple nor denies nor confirms that soldering is used to build their products.
Milk-Proof Robot
That sentence is perfectly fine
"Apple doesn't deny or confirm that soldering is used to build their products."
If you want to be perfect.
Scott Beaton I've not bought anything from Apple for years or been to an Apple store. Do they still call them Apple Geniuses? That surley a breach of the trade description Act!

Loved your rant. Excellent information, and well reasoned arguments. I appreciate what you do.
Totally agree with you Louis, we had something similar for the car where an ecu dies, it gives a unknown code, a code that no one can identify, their solution is to send to their own dealership and they can diagnose the problem and promptly fit a new ecu. It’ sucks big time and there’s nothing we can do except buy from a competitor.... keep up the great work....Phil 🇬🇧
This video moved me. Just look at him. I wish more manufacturers realise that its wrong to snatch away our right to repair things, and this would only be initiated if we mass boycott stuff that aren't repairable. Never intend to buy another Apple product.
@louis keep up the good work, this video has been very educational and I totally support you.
Thank you!
but it's convenience having your own computer on you instead of going to the library to use one of theirs for like an hour max or whatever. so say you boycott sony, apple, dell, etc. and some 3rd party brand lets you repair theirs. then they realize they're heavily relied upon when their sales skyrocket, so then they start overpricing their crap because they know you're going to them instead of apple that won't let you repair, but you have to basically pay the cost of the computer to repair it now. bit of a bad experiences for a lot of apple users, i understand, but i guess i live in an area where they aren't dicks to people and actually try to help, because i have never been tried to be up-sold over repair. I have only gotten outstanding customer service from them and that can only be because of a variety of differences in variables. maybe the ones that get great service don't really make their claims loudly heard, but those who have bad experiences shout it from the mountain.

Thank you for making so many great videos Louis . I might not be a computer technician but I certainly learn a lot from watching your videos .
Louis Rossmann, I've been watching your videos for years. I started component level repair on computers and televisions back in the 1970s. I was self-taught by learning from my failures which sometimes involved smoke and sparks. I'm imagining that you are an EE, and have worked as a bench tech for Apple. That's just my best guess.
Hi Louis, I was ACMT (Apple Certified Macintosh Technician in 2010-2012 approx) and watching this video makes me feel nostalgic :-) YES you are right, Apple Authorised Service Centers cannot fix "shit" when it comes to MLB - main logic board! They have all these fancy AHT, AST and now probably some new diagnostic tools BUT all you will get when the MLB crashes on your spanky new $4000 MacBook Pro is......... used MLB! YES YES YES. Many times I have seen Apple sent reworked MLBs! So think twice before you take your'e new Apple to fix it by store...... This is a game, very lucrative game played by Apple with their customers. Let's say your brand new or fairly new very expensive computer get faulty - chance is you will get it back with reworked MLB which may work for another year, two or only month.... If it fails just after your warranty period - you are sooooo fuckeddddd! I mean it! You are on your own..... Been there, seen it from inside.....! (this is U.K. story) PEACE ;-)))
misiek82 UK story, your English isn't very good. Are you from elsewhere?
The fun part is, in Australia, goods have to work properly, and as advertised, for a reasonable period of time, which is longer than most Apple warranties. Trying to get Apple to budge on this is almost like getting blood out of a stone, but take in a printed copy of Consumer Law, reference the point, and threaten to call the Consumer Affairs office to make a formal complaint, and they'll usually come up with some miracle of a solution :)
WestJ we have the same/similar rules in the UK but after 6 months it is the owners responsibility to prove that the fault is either by design or through a manufacturing defect etc... an almost impossible task for even tech savvy consumers. A washing machine for example, I'd expect it to last 5 years minimum without failing, if it does fail I can go through the process of trying to get the company to repair/replace but if they are reluctant it can involve small claims court, getting an engineers report (which I would have to pay for up front but could claim back) proving the fault exists... it's too much for most people and these companies work on this basis, in my opinion at least.
It's a bollocks rule really, it's there to make us feel like we have consumer protections but it only really lasts for 6 months. Most companies are decent and will provide an exchange within the 12 month period but some are utter bastards.
Martyn James 'Misiek' suggests Polish, which is likely since that is the second most spoken language in the UK.
You should know every brand supplies used motherboards for warranty and also out of warranty. I never see Lenovo send a brand new board, I rarely see a new board from HP or Dell. People love to focus in on Apple and ingore they are no worse or better then any other brand when it comes to repairs.
Sounds very frustrating. Here in NZ your not allowed to sell an item unless you have a supply of serviceable components available to the consumer, up util the foreseeable or reasonable serviceable life of the item. i.e. Purchase a cellphone, it's over it's 1 year warranty by a couple months, I bust the screen, so I go back to the provider to purchase a replacement screen. They must supply be able to sell me the replacement component at reasonable market price. If they can't, 1 of 3 things normally happens. (1) they supply a new phone, (2) a refund, (3) part refund - they may say the phone would of had a us-full life of 3 years and I only got 1 year out of it so a 66.66% refund. Apple will hate anyone that knows the Fair Trading Act over here.
David Heslin you kiwis have that sector of business figured out. Good for you guys!
That service manual reminded me of an old Far Side comic I saw ages ago. One of the characters was looking at a book of equine medicine. In the left column was listed all the possible things that could be wrong with a horse, and in the right column, every solution was "shoot".
You the man brother keep doing your thing & helping the people!💯💪🏾
my gf bought a 2009 mac book pro from a private seller. I noticed that the battery life was going faster than usual. so we decided to take it in and see how much it costs and boy it was expensive. I decided yo buy her own battery on Amazon and fixed it myself. battery life works like a charm now.

Lol. And look at the queue for a new sweat shop built Apple product at 1000 percent markup.
Crapple products. 1000 percent markup on sweatshop labour. They discust me.
dude obsolescence is a thing with EVERY manufacturer
Apple is not alone in this deplorable practice. The major clock and watch manufacturers have also shot themselves in the foot by going the same way.
Recently the German automakers (inc. Audi/BMW/Benz/Porsche) launched their next phase of the attack on consumer rights and small business - they now have electronic logbooks that only their own workshops can update, smaller service businesses cannot access it and if you use them, your car warrranty would be voided by a lack of logbook records, along with any resale value.
Many thanks Louis for your posting. I don't know how many times I've tried to convince users of Apple products that they are dealing with an "evil empire". I don't have an issue with Apple hardware; I don't have an issue with Mac OS X or iOS, although, personally, I don't care to use them (the last really good Mac OS X was Snow Leopard & using iOS devices make me feel like I'm using a children's toy). What I do have issue with is Apple's corporate philosophy & support practises. A few years ago, I worked at an Apple Support call center (tier 1). Part of the performance metrics that were used in assessing the agents was how much selling we did. We were strongly encouraged to sell customers something as a solution to the problem they phoned in about; resolving the actual technical problem was not the priority. I quit that job in disgust.
I can imagine. Working at call centers in general is terrible.
Simboiss No asshole, just because we are against planned obsolescence does not mean we want to live in poverty and die from completely curable diseases, while upper party members live like kings, circumstances also known as "socialism".
I do not wish for any of my disdain for Apple's treatment of customers to be misconstrued as disdain for capitalism or encouragement for the cancer of socialism. For any who disagree with me, might I suggest vacation in Venezuela?
People value products that last. Neve never designed consoles to fail. Urei never designed products to fail. Fairchild never designed products to not be serviceable. These products are revered 50 years later and worshipped with insane resale values becuase reliability, when taught as a virtue, makes for a higher valued product.
What venezuela is as a label is meaningless. Their leaders destroyed the country using socialist policies.
I have an issue with overpriced, underpowered, totally cheap Apple hardware.
Apple uses cheap bullfuck hardware.
I just stumbled onto this guy because I was doing a search for a linux fix on an old IMAC machine. He is great!! HIghly entertaining. Such a New Yorker...... keep going man. Give em hell!!!!!!!!!
That job reminded me of broken circuit boards I've repaired. Back in the day a dropped electronic device would usually break the circuit board and repairing it needed short jumper wires to bridge all the gaps in the traces that broke. Touchy work.
Sadly my family has bought into apples nonesense, and they openly refuse to listen to proof that they are wrong. The frustration is immense.
Apple are real A-holes but still their products are actually not bad. they're one of the few vendors that sells a true certified Unix machine also. This is one of the reasons that nearly all of the professional software developers use it still.
As he stated at the beginning of the video.
He is not saying Apple products are bad. His gripe is their position on allowing people to fix things they own.
If your family simply likes Apple devices because of how they are designed and work, then they are not wrong. It is not wrong to like a good product you prefer over another good product. You can love Apple products and still no like Apple's stand on right to repair. As he has said before, Apple is not an individual. It is made up of several division etc, who internally cannot even agree on things, even right to repair.
Also keep in mind, he owes a big portion of his financial success to Apple. He is the embodiment of "love your enemy".
SAME
@@RavenJCain I dunno man; I suspect you're missing the point. Apple doesn't seem to have rational customers like that. You're right of course, there's nothing wrong with simply appreciating a good product and being realistic about how good it actually is. That's what PC and Android users do. When it's good, we say it's good; when it sucks, we say it sucks. If I met an Apple user like this, I would have nothing against that person - but so far it has NEVER happened in my entire life. In my experience, Apple users fall into one of two categories: the kind that never think to even consider buying anything other than Apple because it's something they know about, and the rabid fanboys who cannot allow one single aspect of the company, its products, its ethos, its business model or, heaven forbid, it's Glorious Founder and Leader of All Men, to be questioned. They become fumingly angry when any single thing about the entire apple phenomenon is challenged, criticized, etc., and cannot bring themselves to admit a single tiny flaw.
I mean, it's a good ecosystem if all of your stuff is apple... and only apple.
Seen this nearly two years after it was posted. Subbed and liked. This is a superb video.
Thank you.
I did the same thing for lockheed. Many years ago. the chips are the transistors and the filter is the resistor/ capacitor combo exterior to the chip.
Working at component level under a microscope is fun !! Yesterday I did the same with a Motorola CM200 radio. A burnt internal trace. Replaced with a jumper wire. Did the trick.
Being retired and 73 yrs old I still can solder under the microscope...
Nice video. I'm an electrical engineer and truly appreciate your ability to work on surface mount technology. Before Engineering school, I used to help my dad put together Heath Kit radios and test equipment. Very few circuit boards back then. It was individual components soldered to strips of solder lugs. Oh, and vacuum tubes with a few discrete transistors. My career path took me away from electronics into power and process measurement and control design. I still appreciate a good electronics fix though. I'm glad to see a young guy with the skills that you have. You are right though, not many of you left. The world of electronics has gone board level replacement and little or no diagnostics skill. Such a shame. Keep up the good work!!!
I miss the days of the Amiga - the back of the owners manual had a full schematic for the system :(
Was oddly using the schematics this evening for an A1200 to try and trace an issue with the video DAC :) There's lots of useful schematics out there so I always save everything I come across just in case :)
+kr239 I bought an LG TV a few years ago, and there were full schematics neatly folded with the manual. Don't see that every day.

"car companies cannot keep indepedent mechanics from reparing their car model."
Tesla : Hold my beer
Tesla is doing the same thing as Apple. Unfortunately for them, they will run afoul of the same laws. Eventually, their practices will be outlawed, at the same time as Apples. Right to repair is, ultimately, not going to be stopped. It's just going to take a lot more time and suffering to get it done.
I was getting ready to say that, yep tesla is the apple of the automotive world.

I listen to a local car repair owner every Saturday. He said he is often called into dealerships when young mechanics take cars apart and can't put them back together again. One time when he was visiting a dealership he noticed a large backlog of cars waiting to be serviced. He asked the service manager why there was no sense of urgency in repairing them. The service manager told him we are in business to sell vehicles not repair them.

Hi, for your unsteady hand, you need to put some support underneath your fists (styrofoam pads covered with ductape for example). Only the fingers need to move, the arms should be relaxed. I used to do some experimental micro surgery (neurosurgery on rats' spinal cord). The microscope we used was similar to yours. My wife is a dentist and she always rests one of her fingers on the patients' teeth while working inside the patients' mouth.
Hope this helps.

I don't wanna die
You trying to kill people?
Man I enjoy your videos! I could tell right away you’re legit just by the way you speak. I have always dreamed of owning a Mac for audio recording, I was always told that they were the be-all-end-all but after all you’ve shown I’m glad that I never made the leap. I am usually pretty rough on any and all electronics and a Mac would never survive!
I do own a Mac Pro 2006 cheese grater its great for the studio. So may people want to record in analog again it is a major selling point. It does take more time dealing with older equipment and it is a bit more work but the sound you get is worth it.
Appreciate your fine work Louis!!!
WHY DOES THIS HAVE DISLIKES??? he's LITERALLY telling the truth 100%
Kenny Even Some people don't like the truth he tells, some don't like the way he presents it... or some just got this vid recommented, clicked on it and find out they are not interested in such a topic.

Damn straight
I think this video is great.
About halfway thru the video, he mentions using leaded solder for the work hes doing on these components. He mentions it kind of off handedly, more so "this is what i'm using" than "this is why".
I think to myself, with a light amount of experience with soldering, a few questions and then continue listening to the video.
A bit later, he brings up the leaded solder again, describes why its helpful in his applications and the safety measures hes using (cause lead is bad for your health, thank you 40+ years of human advancement for figuring this out), answering the questions i never asked.
i think that a highlight of educational videos like these is this ability to create a question, let us ask ourselves that question naturally, then come back around at a convenient time and answer it.
A+ content, even if your soldering hands are about as good as mine.
Jesus, i didn't realize this video is 5 years old, thank you auto play..........original statement stands though
