Derek is one of her best characters
My favourite will always be the Spanish one. "Homo-Lulu." "Receiver of swollen goods!" Classic.
And, the Taxi Driver is tasty.
Tate is a genius. Often seemingly "endorsing" stereotypes, when she is, (like Sacha Baron Cohen and Al Murray) lampooning them. Love her to bits. A total National Treasure!
How very dare you is in the British vocabulary now I used to say it to my niece and nephew when they were kids if they were a bit cheeky 😂

The scene in the men's urinal where she mentions 'the heath', is a reference to a beautiful huge park in London known as Hampstead Heath, which had (or maybe still has!) a reputation for being a pick-up venue for gay men

These skits are old. More at a time when some gay men even ones with partners were closeted. The older partner would be an “uncle” or such. Even today fron the fears of backlash like in their past some still are. Catherine Tate and her crew know this for this exaerated lovely character of Dereck. We love your reaction and Dereck as the gay community. The woke individuals don’t allow this in comedy but I see it as laughing with us and at ourselves not at anyone person. All her gay themes are wonderful. I’ve always had problems with our maybe at least 30 stereotypes within us. I look for relationships with people not a “twink”, or “Queen”. Those things are superficial and part of a persons mannerisms not was whether the person is kind or mean. Dereck is great. We know him.

I think she stole (borrowed) the phrase 'how very dare you' from another beloved British comedian Frankie Howerd. If you look him up you will find many similar camp phrases.
