Yes! A popular thing in the 60's and 70's. The only choice of a European luxury car was a Rolls Royce, a Bentley, or perhaps a Jaguar. So big American cars were imported for the wealthy people. Not so much these days. You might see a modern American Mustang on the roads in the UK, but not many other left hand drive Amercan imports.
My grandfather did business with the krays in the 60s. Apparently they were incredibly polite when they met, and greeted my mother, in a pushchair, and ronnie gently shook her hand. Sure they were terrible people who did terrible things, but they oftentimes showed great kindness and politeness to the ordinary people.
Absolutely sparkling reaction! Lived in East London in 1966-1969 as a child. The Krays were celebrities back then and very popular, local boys made good. They were always in the newspapers photographed with film stars, TV stars and pop singers. They came from Bethnal Green, 3 miles from where we lived at the time. At seven years old it all for the most part went past me unnoticed, but my mum thought of them the same as all the other celebrities in London at the time.
According to some stories, just as Ron shot George Cornell in the pub, the song "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore" started playing on the jukebox. Whether it happened or not, I've always thought it would've made a nice touch.

Hey Chrissie, I’m happy you’re enjoying Tom Hardy’s work. He’s quite an excellent actor. Thanks ever so much for sharing your thoughts on this movie. Tom Hardy made a TV series called Tabboo. It’s set in the 1800s and is most definitely worth a watch, even if it’s just for your own enjoyment. It’s dark, grimey a little spooky and his character is so well suited for his skills. Overall great cast and an unusual story to boot. Looking forward to your next reaction and wish you a glorious day. 😊
Good movie.Tom Hardy is great as always. I think “ The Krays” (1990) is the better movie but Hardy is more believable as Ronnie/Reggie Kray. If you like British crime movies, I would recommend “Get Carter” (1971) with Michael Caine or “The Long Good Friday” (1980) with Bob Hoskins, both are classics of the genre.
Hey gorgeous! There is this really underrated movie with Tom Hardy called Locke. The entire thing takes place in a car and Tom is the only actor physically in the movie. It's an unusual concept but it's executed really well and Tom really gets to show his acting chops. Highly recommend
If you like this movie you would probably like Gangster No 1. Made in the 2000s and had that stylish 60s British aesthetic. You'll find a lot of the same actors as well.
One of my favourite people on UA-cam. Your reactions are fantastic 👏 If you're looking for a little more Tom Hardy but a completely different performance...I highly, highly recommend 'Locke'

@@chrissiereacts thinking about it - they probably still are a status symbol now, but you'd have to be relatively wealthier then than now to import a US car. The car in the movie is a Ford Galaxie 500.
The krays were synonymous with all things American, Hesse the cars they wanted to make the east end a British Vegas by owning the bars and clubs they had
I always liked this movie for lots of good reasons (Tom Hardy and rest of the cast, and the storytelling quality) but I always felt it didn't quite understand where all this violence and desperate crime came from. It came from poverty. No one had any money in east London or in any major British inner cities in those days. So, for instance, the young woman might have wanted to run, but she simply couldn't or, indeed, wouldn't know how to. This Hardy vehicle is actually a bit of a remake of a smaller movie from 1990 which I actually prefer to this, mainly because that movie absolutely did get it. For instance, there's a great scene at the heart of the 1990 movie where one of the Kray's mother's own "circle" (an aunt I think, if memory serves) delivers a bitter monologue about "men". I haven't seen that movie for years so I might have to watch it again!
Really then why doesn't he challenge himself by playing other roles Instead of tough guys all the time, Bronson, bane. Warrior, lawless legend. Capone, all tough guys roles. Why no. Musical dramas by the great actor, Or no comedy's by the great actor, Cause he can only play tough guys
For an example of how good he can be, check out Hardy in the movie Locke. It's about a man balancing 3 major life changes on the phone and under stress whilst it's all shot with just him driving at night on a freeway.
I'm kind of surprised you hadn't heard of them before - when you said at the end 'wait, this was a real story?'. There's been a few films about them, but yeah, real. Often cited as the reason the mafia never took off in London/UK due to these pair.
One of my relatives used to know their brother Charlie Kray(I didn't even know there was another brother). She was telling us about her times in London and Charlie came up. They used to go out to one of the clubs owned by the Krays, and he often offered to have one of the lads walk the girls home to ensure they got back safe. She said he would say "Make sure my girls get back home safe" and they would think "Your girls?". she still has some Christmas cards from the Kray family 😂
I'll be watching tonight after work; it's always fun to watch with you, Chrissie. You should see the 1990 film, The Krays. These two films balance each other out quite nicely, the 1990 film being far more sinister and hinting at the paranormal. You are very cute and sweet. 🥰😘🤭 xxx
Some of us Brits would say "Smash the granny out of you" which can also refer to an term for fighting. " knock the granny out of you" has to be the original idiom(it also means other things in which it is useful to check out)
I learned my second language as an adult, but watching London crime movies as a teenager felt like a bit of a prelude. British slang is so bizarre and so extensive that almost everything said is either a figure of speech or a slang word. You could take years of English as a non-native speaker and become fluent in the language, but if you found yourself in that culture it would be like you learned Spanish to go to Portugal. I was in South America volunteering at a conservation camp in the Peruvian rainforest. I was talking to a local who spoke English when a guy from London walked by us and said, "Oi, my telly's done a runnner. Could you give it a bell?" The Peruvian guy had no idea what that sentence could even possibly mean and he told me that I was actually trilingual for understanding "whatever the fuck language that just was." I couldn't "give it a bell" because we were about as far from civilization as you can possibly be without going to space. I reminded him of that and he rolled his eyes, laughed and called himself a "prat," which got me another sidelong look and a chuckle from the Peruvian. I expressed that there was also slang in Peru and he was like, "Yeah, but we didn't overhaul our entire Castellano language to come up with it. Quechua is even better. That's a language where people say exactly what they mean, and best of all it didn't arrive in this place by way of genocide." Listening to the locals hate on the Spanish was so fun. They won't even call their own language "Spanish," instead referring to it by its regional dialect, and young people in that country are very focused on learning Quechua so that they don't have to speak the language of their imperialist oppressors. Fuck, I miss Peru. Nothing will make you understand how shallow our own culture is like living there. It's a place where you can buy mescaline in a market, take it, walk out into the hills higher than freaking God, stumble across an ancient ruin that isn't even on a map, much less does it come with tour guides or entrance fees, and meet a local stranger, also tripping their face off. There you'll have a great conversation about history and spirituality or just a nod and a subtle exchange of unspoken understanding. That's Peru. That is, most significantly, NOT the United States. I'm going to die there. I'm determined. My final days will be in Cusco.
Ron didn't want the "Gangster Life" that had already been won. He wanted the Grind of blasting his way to the top like criminals of old. He was never going to bow out, get married, have kids and a nice house as he collects his 10% on all illegal activity. He wanted to be like Scarface, holed up in his fortress with an assault rifle with a grenade launcher attachment. As the enemy storms the palace he is screaming "Come say Hello to my Little Friend". He wanted people to be looking at the paper the next day saying "Jesus Wept, they found Ronny dead with close to a hundred dead gangsters surrounding him. Police say after he had run out of ammo, he wielded his gun like Arthur wielded Excalibur in defense of Albion.. he shot his way into the Hitory Books, and nobody will ever forget theh Ron's Last Stand.... HUUUUUUURRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, good reaction 😂 a suggestion I never see many people watch it but I've watched a lot of your videos and think you might like it "Into the wild"
Damn, I can't believe you just called me stupid 😂 That's the whole point of my comment. That's why it was so weird that wasn't the case in this movie. Others have explained that this was an imported American car and that's why the steering wheel was on the "North American" side.
yep this is true story and gangsters was more know as The Firms in the uk and they was tended to be loved by there community as they often put money back into the community like the Kray twins in this move donated money to a ton of things like Repton Boys Club a boxing club, the fighting tended not to spill over into the public and was often against each other
The club singer is "Duffy", she had a short stint in popularity in the British charts in the 2000s I think, she could of made it a bit further in her singing career but I think the was always in the shadows of Amy Whitehouse (similar genre of music), as Amy become more known internationally.
Duffy was never fully comfortable with her rise to fame. She took a hiatus from music shortly after her second album in 2010 due to a terrible traumatic experience where she was abducted, drugged, flown to another country and raped. Her involvement in Legend marked her return to music as well as acting, but she never returned to the spotlight full-time.
Hey Chrissie - You should check out the 1990 "The Krays" film with Martin and Gary Kemp as the brothers, for me always feel like the better film but probably due to familiarity more than anything as Tom Hardy's performance is brilliant. Funnily enough I drove past The Blind Begger (The London Pub in the film where Ronnie Kray murdered George Cornell in full view of witnesses) yesterday as down in London for a work meeting.
(4:08) She sat on 'the driver's side' because that's a Lincoln - an imported American car, with the driver's side on the left hand side.

HUUUUUUURRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, good reaction 😂 a suggestion I never see many people watch it but I've watched a lot of your videos and think you might like it "Into the wild"
the book on the kray twins is excellent as well
G'day mate. in Australia and in England we drive the opposite to America
Damn, I can't believe you just called me stupid 😂 That's the whole point of my comment. That's why it was so weird that wasn't the case in this movie. Others have explained that this was an imported American car and that's why the steering wheel was on the "North American" side.
Its a true story . love it
My father in law was in the prison service and dealt with the Krays and Bronson in his career.
The Kray twins have been subject to previous coverage - and parodied by Monty Python - as the Pirrahana Brothers
Legend is one of my favorite movies I love your chanel
Thank you! 😊
yep this is true story and gangsters was more know as The Firms in the uk and they was tended to be loved by there community as they often put money back into the community like the Kray twins in this move donated money to a ton of things like Repton Boys Club a boxing club, the fighting tended not to spill over into the public and was often against each other
The club singer is "Duffy", she had a short stint in popularity in the British charts in the 2000s I think, she could of made it a bit further in her singing career but I think the was always in the shadows of Amy Whitehouse (similar genre of music), as Amy become more known internationally.
@@gdarmo really? I think I remember something like that, forgot about it obviously. That's a shame as I think she is good.
They only made one season which is sad but you would love Taboo. Great TV show that got sidelined by Covid I believe.
I'm wondering how long it will be until we see a biopic on the Richardson Brothers?
Great film based on the Kray twins. Very difficult to watch the violent scenes. Hardy is a brilliant actor. Have you seen Peaky blinders yet?
Not yet! I've heard amazing things though so it's on my list.
You forgot “The Parent Trap” for films with one actor playing two. 😂
Oh yeah! I've never actually seen it lol
My favorite scene is where Frances (Emily Browning) blows breath into Reggie, because he said she's "...breathtaking".
Yes! It was in my original edit but the video kept getting blocked and I had to cut so much out. But yeah I loved it too!
Great reaction ❤😂
Thanks!! 😃
