I love it. Thanks for showing this new technique of using masking fluid for the centers of lights. And also by splattering drops of water in the background for the distant slowflakes. It really does make a contrast with the foreground snowflakes done with gouache droplets. I never thought to do that and I sure will try this technique. Thanks for showing this to us.
Okay, I just watched the whole video to see everything. Now I will attempt to create this painting myself. Your step-by-step directions are very helpful. You are a brilliant artist!
I loved this video, and after watching it twice, I’m going to attempt it. I have come to realize that I struggle for words when I’m focusing on what I’m DOING while I try TO TALK.. no worries, Emma, thank you for these tutorials!
The effect of the droplets of water on the wet Payne's grey is wonderful --a great subdued snowfall in the background. I hadn't used masking fluid until I bought some in the fine tip applicator but all I got was big drops and bubbles. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but hope it's just lack of practice. Love your videos, Emma!
Just brought the exact same masking fluid yesterday, so your video really did come at the right time! with some great tips. Thanks so much for sharing and hope your cold gets better soon ..😊
I learned two new to me techniques from you! Thank you so much💕. How I wish watercolor paper wasn’t so expensive, for 9x12 arches With 12 pages, it’s now $19 😣
Beautiful tree, Emma ♥️ I think I need to invest in the W&N masking fluid - I have the Frisk brand and the one only time I used it, it tore my paper on removal. It put me off ever since. Get well soon and I think we can all relate to “baby brain/brain fog” when it comes to finding words.. I’ve lost my multitasking ability and can’t talk/paint/craft at the same time 😕 Best wishes from 🇬🇧 x
If I wanted to put colored lights would you recommend a light wash, then saturated color in the very center? I guess I wanted know how to get the colored lights to glow.
So cute! Btw, you're using 2 different areas of your brain when you're speaking and doing art at the same time, so word recall is probably more difficult.
I think adding in traditional candlesticks & candleholders onto the tree for a lit candle affect would be beautiful

Try different paper, it may be the paper and not the masking fluid. My w&n rips too on some papers
Very helpful and a really nice piece. Happy Thanksgiving!!
You're such a master Emma LaFave! Sorry, I know I spelled your name wrong...😘

And multi-tasking when cranky-pants no-nap kiddo is on the other side of the door, too. Plus she's filming and spattering. Whew! 😉Go, mama!
Your hair looks really pretty.
Is the tree sketched on the paper before masking fluid?
What is the name of the white paint
shaggy look?
