So that's why my buttermilk powder gets lumpy, I've been leaving it in my pantry. Didn't know it was supposed to go into the refrigerator after opening. Thanks!
I bought from Amazon anti caking packs. I put that in my onion powder or mushroom powder I make myself with dehydrated mushrooms or dehydrated onions. It’s a small pack that prevents that caking problem.
I bought buttermilk powder a few years ago & I didn’t refrigerate it. You are so right, it turned into a brick. Thanks for letting me know it needs refrigeration. I’m trying it again.
I was telling hubby all about these amazing dry mix recipes I've been finding, and now he is planning a minor renovation to the house so we can convert out linen cupboard into a giant food pantry/storage space so I have somewhere to keep them! hahaha. Your onion soup recipe will be a big winner in our house, in New Zealand we have a traditional classic dip made with a small can of reduced cream, 1 packet onion soup mix, and a tablespoon or 2 of either vinegar or lemon juice. mix it all together and chill. Delicious with potato chips or carrot sticks if you're feeling virtuous on your diet haha. So your onion soup recipe will keep us in dips for a long time! I suspect the italian seasoning mix would go amazing when you're cooking up ground beef, or even over chicken pieces, I'm looking forward to trying them. Thanks for sharing...I have more of your videos on my watchlist, so I'll just apologise now for all my future ramblings lol
I practiced on breads and keto breads. A lot of failures and some good . Well I took my failures and made bread crumbs . I started seasoning them for diff flavored bread crumbs. I made Italian crumbs, I made some for fish with Cajun seasonings, etc etc. I dip meat in egg then my bread crumbs then either fry or sauté or bake. Maybe you might do some of these. They keep well storing with my storing packets . And I seal the jars.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE these homemade dry mixes. I'm able to have my favorites without sacrifice in flavor, even omitting the onion still so much flavor. I love the cream of something, I add mushroom powder, celery powder and bell pepper, I even add a few dashes of turmeric. Mine is truly a cream of something else LOL. My mom always left her dry buttermilk in the spice cabinet and it never got clumpy but this was 20 to 30 yrs ago. She doesn't keep it on hand anymore. I bought another brand on Amazon it doesn't require refrigeration.
Thank you Jeni for the information about the buttermilk powder needing to be refrigerated. I paused the video and went to the cabinet and checked. Sure enough it had started to get hard. Fortunately I was able to put all the little clumps into a strainer and with a spoon worked it back into a powder. Now it is in the fridge. That was a brand new can with only one use from it. I thought when it happened before that it was just too old. I guess it pays to read the bottles and cans we open to see proper storage. I also discovered that the tomato paste you buy in a tube also needs to be refrigerated after opening.
Jeni, you crack me up with the bonus spices. I really enjoyed watching this. You have inspired me to try my hand at making my own blends. Can’t wait to see what else you have in store

I didn't know the buttermilk was supposed to be refrigerated. Mine has always been fine except for the last container. I guess everything is getting cheaper lol. I'll have to start putting it in the fridge. Thank u for saving me money lol. So did u just add the chicken bouillon for flavor or to make it "cream of chicken " mix? How much of the mix would be equivalent to a can of soup? Is that the 1/2 to 1 1/2c. Pls
Yes! On the mushrooms! I dehydrated a puffball, but then into cubes and dehydrated them. I made up this mix Anna sent it over to my mom and soon to make and try ( he found the puffball at his work). Even though i thought they were small enough, my mom who LOVES mushrooms said they were too big. So! You probably want to grind them even if it’s a rough grind ( not to powder)
These look like really good ones I have tried some in the past that I wasn't really that happy with. Thanks for throwing in the extra ranch dressing. I have a granddaughter and just crazy Kroger Brand Southwest ranch and then it got so they couldn't get it we'll have to see what I can conjure up on this
I just found you after seeing a video for your Roasted Green Chili Gravy and decided to go through all the videos. Dry mixes seemed like a good place to start since I love making my own dry mixes.
