A couple other combat tips id like to share Eating bait (grubs, leeches, earthworms) before combat is quite effective if you plan to use a blunderbuss or sword in which you are in very close quarters combat as you will proceed to vomit a few seconds later, which if that projective vomit hits another player will cause severe blinding for a few seconds. (this also can be saved for later use by having a bucket out when you vomit, it will collect and be saved in your bucket in which you can then throw at players) For anyone who chooses to use a sword and not double gun there are some useful techniques to improve effectiveness, if you find an opportunity to sword lunge at your opponent try to align yourself between him and any interactible on the ship (such as the Wheel, ladder, a lowered capstan, etc) grabbing onto these objects will immediately remove your stun debuff if you manage to miss There is a more advanced form of sword lunging which grants significantly better mobility. to do this there are two simple steps 1. hold down your block keybind and do NOT let this go throughout the entire duration 2. whilst maintaining block also hold down your attack keybind to engage a lunge this alone will remove your movement debuff you normally get when charging up your sword lunge and allow you to move at normal walk speed. however it gets even better ESPECIALLY if you want to board a ship at an angle you cannot shoot a cannon out of and that is by adding 1 extra step (optional 3.) the moment you begin to move, jump and your momentum will be carried throughout the air allowing you to go further, if you then hit water you will go even further and faster than a normal sword lunge. if you are struggling at this step remember to keep holding down your block keybind. if you are really skilled enough this can be used to bunny hop across islands as hitting enemies or animals will also remove your stun debuff. On each of the ships there is a metal grate on the deck and this doesnt have collision with weapons and water, meaning you can bail water out of these spots and shoot through them. you can find that especially on the sloop or brigintine that this can be used to get the jump on an opponent who has retreated below behind cover to regain health. Note you also can shoot through the stairs At the back of the sloop by the map table, you can actually reach through the window and grab onto the ladder if looking at the correct angle. this allows you to immediately climb up-top by the wheel and can be a great way to create distance if things get too dicey. Not my favorite tip as it does technically require you spend $ and isnt very practical in most engagements but note that all pets will make a unique sound when being fired outside of a cannon EXCEPT the monkey pet. the monkey uses the SAME audio queue as a PLAYER shooting out, you can use this to fool lesser experienced pirates into thinking you are boarding. Finally my last tip isnt so useful in naval combat, however if you are in a land battle and need to disengage you can jump off a cliff and with a well timed blunderbomb, negate fall damage whilst instead taking minimal explosive damage. anyone who follows you from such a great height will break their legs and you should be able to escape or finish them off. After the 4th you voted for a FACTION CHAMPION battle which puts you against a big ship. The map has two options to vote on after you become faction champion (4 wins).
People try this on me all the time I just drop my own anchor and they can't do this, ever. I only need to resort to that when they're sweatlords an I can't kill them.
