My girlfriend husband took classes for his business of removing mold and fire damage. He said straight white vinegar will kill mold. He said it might take two to three times. You need to wait 2-3 days between treatment. I did it in my bedroom ceiling it took 2 times it was gone did not come back. He said it will take it out of clothes that was exposed to mold wash in vinegar.

I have been doing this to my clothes and yes it does indeed work! I love white vinegar!
I react to so many things thanks to the mold in our house. So washing my clothes in things that leave a smell makes me even more sick. But white vinager has been fine for me😄

This is great! I’m so happy you’ll get to live in your house. May I make a suggestion? We had our crawl space totally encapsulated several years ago-because of mold here in the very humid state of SC. It’s pretty pricy to have done and the company that did it said we would be wasting our money if we didn’t install a dehumidifier in the crawl space. That was 6 or 7 years ago and have never smelled mustiness in here again! 😊

I do this for a living as well under a company called PuroClean and my headquarters is actually in FL but we have 3 franchises in VA. Fogging will require a film to be left - please make sure he cleans well after and uses air scrubbers. I would also recommend hiring a 3rd party hygienist to test after he is done. With Elizabeth’s health issues - you can never be too safe. That mold was there for a long time and to me it looks like this guy is taking the right steps. However, the smell test isn’t sufficient as it just means mold can be dormant until it as a food source - dust or moisture again. With the house being vacant for many months - that can become an issue again if you don’t temperature regulate.

Glad you guys were able to get that done. Mold is no joke. I lived in a 100+ year old home for over a year, and discovered by accident that the walls were full of black mold. I immediately moved out, but within a week, I was so sick I almost died. Oddly enough, the owner of the property(which was right behind his residence) died shortly after that. What a Blessing that you stayed at the Air B&B and had the owner know exactly what to do to make your home mold free and livable for both Elizabeth and you !! Maybe you should have a dehumidifier for the future in your house because it is Florida after all. Maybe running a portable dehumidifier that you can move from room to room throughout the day. Especially when sleeping in the bedrooms.
But I'm sure that he will tell you what you need to do to keep it mold free. So happy for both of you that you have made your Winter home a safe place to be. Thanks for sharing !!

The HVAC central air conditioning system will dehumidifier the entire house. The mold was not caused by humidity, it was caused by a plumbing leak.

Fun fact bleach actually can make the mold stronger. Not only do you endure the fumes of the bleach you then have a set up where the tendrils are now swelling and growing in some cases more fiercely due to the bleach. When the mold comes to spore again it will come back highly aggressively and will be that much harder to remove.
Vinegar or peroxide are both far better alternatives and can actually kill the mold as mold cant live in a highly acidic environment in vinegar or if you prefer less smell use peroxide and the mold will die in the hyper oxygenated environment. Peroxide releases oxygen aggressively and will oxidize the outer surface of the molds main structure. Once that is broken down the DNA is damaged by the oxygen saturated environment. This is the same reason why wounds are disinfected by peroxide. The outer structures of bacteria are damaged by peroxide and the DNA inside is destroyed rendering the bacteria incapable of reproducing or surviving. By this same mechanism blood will appear to boil when it gets in peroxide because the red blood cells will be aggressively removed of their oxygen as their cellular walls fall apart.

Seek a professional any time you find more then a few inches of it in an unexpected place like a wall. It seems expensive but the diseases you can get can be devastating from long term exposure and if it shows up in a visual area its deeper then it looks. We were gone from our Georgia house for a month and during that time our air conditioner had leaked. Good thing our neighbors went in and checked on the house 2 days before we got there. We asked a friend about what to do....who has a business in air conditioning, and mold removal who lent us his machine. We took it to Georgia. Cleaned the carpets, dehumidifier , then ran the machine. The amazing thing was that house always had a cigarette smell we couldn’t get rid of, but the machine did get rid of it. I've seen in other houses that they use lattice as skirting so air flow gets under the houses in Florida. I've also seen a heavy duty mesh used. Just like our house in TN has vents to open and close but it's warmer there so I can see where the lattice works well.

What is the plan for the hot, humid summers when you won't be living in the house? Will you have to run the A/C continuously in the Florida house when you return to VA to keep mold and mildew from taking over? You can be battling that even with no water leaks in the plumbing..just from Mother Nature. Florida as you know is a very humid state and most people run their dehumidifiers and A/C's continuously. It will impact your electric bills but should keep the house free of the awful mildew smells many Florida homes are battling.

@@LiveSimpleLiveFree But the couch is something different from the wood items in the building. The surface might be clean but what is still inside? Perhaps you should donate the couch and get something else to be sure. I had friends that had mold inside the walls of their home in California because the construction workers who had worked on the house build had left used beers can under the stairs when they install the sheetrock and left them inside the walls. My friends lived in the home for a couple of years and were continually sick until their doctor suggested they should have the air tested in the home. They found black mold. Everything that was "soft" like their clothes, mattresses, stereo speakers and even the refrigerator all had to be tossed. All the sheetrock also needed to removed and replaced. It took them over a year to get things repaired so they could get back in. Fortunately they had insurance but since the late 1990's, insurance policies limit mold coverage. Just want to be sure that you are both safe while you stay there.

You two are so beautiful. As a retired health department inspector I plead with you to get rid of that couch. That material has already absorbed mold smell not spores plus the dirt and bacteria from just sitting in that empty closed up house. You have no idea what has been on that couch and with your sensitive lungs you should be sitting on nothing but good quality leather. Material chairs and sofas are a breeding ground for Bactria unless you have them professional cleaned and sanitized. Why would you spend all this money working on this house and then keep the one dirty thing your lungs will be next to? It’s the one thing most people don’t think about. We shed skin all the time and it’s one thing when we sit when it’s ours but others! Ugh! Even in your air BNB you should have some kind of throw on the sofa. Think of how many people have sat there and not as clean as you. God bless. Enjoy your new blessing.

You have made amazing progress in such a short time. I have a suggestion for a project you are talking about in the future. You are talking about building bunk beds for you and Elizabeth to sleep in until you get your bedroom set up. My husband has built two sets for grandchildren. The way he built them is basically two twin beds that can be used separately or one can be put on top of the other to make bunk beds. That way you wouldn't have to crawl up on a top bunk, using them as two twin beds to begin with but you could join them when you are ready to have bunk beds. This is just a suggestion as we have used ours both ways depending on the circumstances. And yes, I know this is a project in your future but I thought it was something you might want to think about.
    God bless you both!

FANTASTIC!!! Moving in and enjoying your new home is just around the corner. I didn't know that...I always thought that bleach killed mold. I am so happy for you that you found someone who will do a thorough job in getting rid of all the mold. Looking forward to future videos of this house and also seeing what kinds of cute girly things you got for the kitchen, Elizabeth. Love you guys!!!❤❤❤

Rejoicing with and for you that each need for your new Florida home is being met so successfully! Sharing the processes in each step is enlightening as was your recent total home renovation and successful sale which enabled the present Florida home purchase. Praying that health continues to improve for you both!

Hi Bill and Elizabeth , You might want to get a de humidifier . I live in Lake Placid , we have a lake here .We baught a de humidifier and it takes 3 gallons of water out in a day ! Day after day ! Glad you are getting your mold taken care of ! I mentioned the lake, that might make the water worst ! Hope you and Elizabeth can finally settle in to your Florida home ! Nice that Elizabeth can breathe ! Sending Love and prayer to you both !

So glad you shared this! I have a friend whose home went through Superstorm Sandy. She had sheet rock replaced and swears all is well but she has had a constant cough for a couple years and has had several tests with no answers why. I keep telling her I believe it's a mold allergy from her home. She doesn't think that is the case but none of her tests have showed anything that supports the cough.

Wow, learned something new! The fact is that bleach does not kill mold spores! Living here in Florida I understand the moisture issues, and now I am thinking about dehumidifying my home. Will need to find someone in my area. So, grateful that you shared this video with us. Elizabeth, I am excited to see all your girlie things. Have a blessed and wonderful day!
