Hello Folks!
I hope I find you all well. Today I’ve made a wee match of these lovely Ecclefechan tarts :) Ecclefechan is in Dumfries & Galloway (in Scotland obviously!) These are a delicious sweet treat, best eaten on their own as a tea time treat….but you could have this with custard too.

60g (2 oz) Unsalted butter - melted
100g (3.5 oz) Soft dark brown sugar
1 Egg - beaten
2 Tablespoons orange juice
2 Tablespoons whisky (substitute with orange juice if you don’t like whisky)
150g (5 oz) Mixed dried fruit
50g (2 oz) Walnuts - roughly chopped
1 Orange - zested

I’ve never heard of these “Fechen Tarts” before! 😮 I’m sure I would get some cheeky comments here in the States if I invited some folks over for a Cuppa and a Fechen Tart 🫢 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🥧☕️Thanks for sharing. 💕🇺🇸
Exactly what I was thinking hahaha!
Reminds me of a Christmas tart 😊
Very similar pink! ☺
@@WhatsForTea 👍🏻 hope you're doing ok
I love Ecclefechan tart, must try this.
I am sure I NEED to make these❣ 😅😋
Hi Cheryl it’s only me from down south ~ as soon as the notification flashed up with the title I had to jump on quickly- I seriously seriously cannot believe you are showing this recipe. I have waited to see someone making these for the last several years - I can only get these in Sainsbury’s but only at the end of November going into December. I buy these every year now and I absolutely love them. There is nothing better - I hope you’re okay and that you’ve had a good week. ~ sending loads of love and hugs as always. ~ Xxx Xxx
I'm from down south as well (Kent) I've not seen these in Sainsbury's, thanks for the heads up, I will keep a look out for them 😀
They look fab ❤
I make these every Christmas for my family .......love them ❤
I have never hard of these things. They look like such magical little treasures. Gonna be making them out here in Colorado USA.
Ooo, post here how they turned out. Would love to know
I love your upbeat pleasant voice. In today's times, it's so welcome every week!❤
Ha!...I've been dithering around here all morning for no apparent reason and this just dropped, an unexpected treat!...Now I'm off, and I intend to use "ecclefechan tart!" at least once in traffic before noon...Thanks much!
😂😂😂😂 Please do that! 🤣🤣🤣
🤭😆😂🤣🤣 👍👌🏴💙
I love your tart pan and cutter.
My granny’s place of birth. Thank you for sharing.
Lovely! We used to get Echelfechan Tarts sent to us in the Mail a few years back. I will definitely give these a go. We used to eat ours with clotted cream….🤪
Were they the Walkers ones ?
@@Northernlights-gv4vx can’t remember the brand, but they were ordered via a company called Scottish Gourmet, who have now ceased trading
Look fabulous, can't wait to try them. I've been to Ecclefechan lol. I'm a custrd fan, so I'll be making homemade custrd to go with them. Thank you for sharing Cheryl xxx
Those look wonderful.
Hello from Philly :)
these look wonderful and quick - company tomorrow will love these - thanks for sharing this!
This sounds like holiday treat. Yes, Sunday is a holiday every week. I love mince pies, this sounds lovely. Thank you Cheryl.
Great pub at Ecklefechan! Lovely easy recipe, lovely demonstration! Thankyou! ❤ XXX
Those look delicious Cheryl, I’ve never tried an Ecclefechan tart, & might just give these a go.😋 A perfect time to post this recipe, just in time for Canada’s Thanksgiving coming up at the weekend.🇨🇦 A perfect autumn dessert & a tasty precursor for mince pie season. I bet the aromas coming from your kitchen were fantastic whilst these were baking!☺️ Those tart tins look the ideal size for making these beauties! As always, thanks for sharing 🙏 & enjoy the rest of your week, xx 👩🏻🍳🥧😋👌💕💞💖
Now in the West Country, my father used to live in Ecclefechan and every Xmas we had to have some!
Great, I’m going to check out your recipe so I can make them any time of year.
How do you get to Ecclefechan ? You get the Feckin bus!
First thing that came to mind also.
Haha….love this!!
Dad joke! 🥁 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
😂😂😂
🏴❤️🏴 oh yeah, saved in my file definitely making these 🏴❤️🏴
Whoa Cheryl I love an Ecclefechan Tart , I usually buy Walkers from the shops in Drummore and Portpatrick but due to mobility issues haven't been able to do those shops anymore and it would be a 40 mile round trip from the caravan , my mother used to make a similar thing called Taffy Cakes bit like the Curd Tarts of Yorshire , gosh I'm drolling thinking of a EF and clotted cream 😊❤😊❤😊
These look very similar to Butter Tarts, which are a Canadian treat. My grandma always made them.
Sounds and looks amazing
they l👀k tartastic! 👍
They sound amazing, Cheryl!
Glad you spelled whisky correctly 😜🥃
I bloody love these!😋❤
Real dark sugar, in the US it keeps getting lighter, they look delicious, of course I would have mine with custard
Adding a teaspoon of molasses fixes the light brown sugar problem.
Good morning Cheryl
From Australia
As you know my husband is Scottish he says yummy
As well he said when he was little growing up in kirn Scotland the boys and girls at the children's home used to say Eddefechan as a Swear word .😂
Now I have to go by a tart tin and pastry cutter ready for Christmas to make these .
Have a nice weekend
They look wonderful ❤
I'm convinced Ecclefechan Tarts are what Canadian Butter Tarts were based on. They're so similar to my family recipe for Butter Tarts (no corn syrup or golden syrup involved like the modern recipes for them, just the brown sugar as the sweet component).
I was thinking that as I watched. The egg and butter with the dried fruit is very reminiscent
I don't usually get any mine pies until Christmas, so I may give these a try. Thank you for sharing the recipe!
This tart is very similar of our Canadian butter tart less the orange juice and whisky . Looks so yummy !
I am going to give this a try. Thank you for sharing. 😊
ooooh, so tempting
Omg, these look so delicious!! Much better than the storebought ones I have seen in our British shop here.
Well done Cheryl! Yorkshire pudding tins. Be-ro call them butter tarts but don't have whisky! Love them! Buy them when I can find them! When I go on bus trips to Scotland Ecclefechan is one of name's I look out for.
OOOOOOh, yummy looking. TY . I'm gonna bake these with the OJ. The squirrels carried off all of my walnuts and hazelnuts just before the storm hit last Friday. Love ya.
It’s good to know your nut harvest didn’t go to waste in the storm. You’ve no doubt made a good few squirrels happy & well fed for the coming winter!🐿️💚🐿️💛🐿️🧡🌰
Oh yum i love these will be making some for sure Thanks for the recipe Cheryl 😋😋😋
Reminds me of the Canadian butter tarts. Will give yours a try

The place my Dad always made us pronounce on our way home to Glasgow, to make sure although we spoke with English accents we didn't forget our roots.

Hi from Colorado!! These look delicious and I am going to try to make them! Can you tell me where I can order the tart pan? Also, do you have a recipe for the sweet short crust pastry?? Is it just a pie crust? I love your channel!! ❤️

Cheryl could I use honey instead of Lyons golden syrup with digestive biscs for it to stick. My auntie Jean in kirkintilloch made Tiffin with it
Melted chocolate over the whole traybake. She's gone now but what a baker. I love to bake too just wondered.

When I first heard you pronounce the name of this dessert, I thought you were swearing! 😂 Sorry, just my odd sense of humour. Thanks for sharing this yummy recipe x
Question, I'm allergic to nuts, can you just add more dried fruit to make up the difference?
Snowballs please
New one for me! Looks good, can you fax me a couple over Cheryl? LOL
🙂😋❤
Are these the same as mince pies .
No. Mincemeat has no eggs, it is usually made well in advance and put in jars to mature. Then it is simply put into the pastry case.
Look like oversized mince pies with the tops off!
They look braw.
Cheryl can you serve it with Ice cream Cathy From America 🇺🇸 🙏🏻✝️☮️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🇺🇸Praying for all those affected by the terrible Hurricanes 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
