American here - I think this looks absolutely fabulous, and I’m going to have to give it a go - but if truth be told, I’m equally enchanted with that lovely Scottish accent of yours. So beautiful!! Sending blessings from the USA!
Definitely. I'd probably go full Indian fusion on this and really flavor the potatoes but that's the best part of cooking. As long as you like the results you can do whatever you like!
I love Rumbledethumps. I always serve it as a main course with some ham added in, alongside a green vegetable like broccoli and some roasted and buttered carrots. I love the idea of bringing the veg almost to burning to get some nice roastiness; I'll have to try that!
Your combination suggestions sound perfect. Thank you. Now I just need some cabbage and carrots, no ham but I have bacon lardons that need using up, potatoes ✅ onions ✅ cheese ✅ broccoli ✅ other ingredients ✅. Tomorrow's dinner sorted. 😅
My scotish grandma made this often as a side dish for Thanksgiving for our family all these foods were lost when she passed,Thank you for this one in definitely making it.
I'm doing a ham for Thanksgiving. I'd been thinking of roast potatoes, but may now switch to these, minus the shredded ham the first day, and if there are leftover rumbledethumps, I could shred some of the ham into that. I usually just do them with potatoes, cabbage and onions, but this is a tasty alternative.
I'm Scottish and 39 years old and have never had this in any form. This is the one I'll be making!! Love the production of the video and your accent (again, I'm Scottish but could listen to you all day!!!) and most importantly, the recipe!!! Instant follow!!! 💛🤤
We're from Kolkata, India. We spent a month in the UK earlier this year for a holiday. A 9 day Scottish sojourn was over of the highlights of the trip. Since then I've fallen in love with the Scottish accent!! ❤
I've tried a version of this recipe from a Scottish UA-cam channel and it was glorious. I'm now imagining using it as a topping for Cottage Pie instead of plain mashed!
Now that winter is coming to Western Canada, I’m looking to my file of What’s for Tea recipes to fortify many cold nights. Thank you so much for posting.
Lovely presentation. Short and sweet. I really don't havd the need to watch people peeling and cutting up potatoes😊. Getting cold here in Canada and this looks very much like a new comfort food .Thanks so much.
I am a Brit living in Cyprus, this looks so delicious, I am going to try it, but watching again just to make sure I don't miss anything, thank you. 🤗🤗🙋♀🙋♀
In Germany I think there is something similar, called Dippekuchen. A Scottish friend of mine here in Germany makes rumbledethumps with sauerkraut instead of cabbage.
@@sadmimikyu8807 It's not the same thing, of course, but the ingredients are similar. Here it's known as a Rhineland speciality, and in Saarland it's called Dibbelabbes. Watching from New Zealand. That's my dinner decided for tonight. I do like the simplicity of your recipes and the use of basic ingredients. Thanks for sharing your recipes.
What’s not to love! Potatoes, onions, cabbage, salty ham and cheddar. Definitely making this dish for dinner tomorrow and I subscribed to your channel. Rumbledethumps…a hug in a bowl!
Oooh, this looks delicious. I’m born and bred in England but my heart belongs in Scotland. Thank you for sharing this. I’ll most definitely be trying this. I’m going to Scotland shortly to stay with my Scottish friend. I’d like to surprise her with this dish. I hope you have a lovely weekend and again, thank you. 💙💙💙
I just showed this to our family's fussiest eater, who approved enthusiasticly. (I am not mentioning any names as to which family member that is!) Wow! This looks like a dinner we can all enjoy! Thank you so much from Michigan in the United States.
Hello Cheryl! This looks fantastic! I've heard so many chefs on TV say browning = flavour, so it totally makes sense to develop that deep brown on the cabbage. Plus it's developing the flavour on the onions as well. I might be American born with Canadian roots, but coming home after a long day eating lentil soup and watching your video has made me feel a tiny bit Scottish and also has relaxed me so much. Thank you for making this wee little corner of UA-cam amazing Cheryl.
This will be a great recipe for our household. We have cabbage very often and it's nice to find a slightly different way to do it. It looks absolutely delicious. And I think I will also add the baked beans, another big favorite of ours.
My gosh I made this for supper last week and it was absolutely delicious! Thank you for this recipe, with winter coming, this is going to be one of our favourites. ❤❤
I’m making this tonight! I’m going to add chicken just because ive a left over rotisserie chicken from Costco and I’m gonna pour gravy over just like a corned beef hash without the crust 👏🏻 I will double the ingredients and this will feed my family of 12 after swimming lesson , regards Ruby new subscriber
This looks delicious! I too love charring my cabbage. I thought I was the only one. Like you said, it adds such a great flavor. I would make this but hubby hates cooked cabbage. One night I'll make it just for me.
This has been a favourite of ours for years, with crispy bacon added rather than the ham. We call it Baked Colcannon. Baked beans, and a slab of buttered crusty bread, are mandatory!
Hi Cheryl, this looks really good! I’m planning a visit to Glasgow soon as I’ve only ever been to Edinburgh. Hoping to try some traditional Scottish foods 😊
I only know about this dish because I read a lot of Wikipedia articles about food. But, I've never seen it made in a video before. It looks really good, so I will have to try it sometime soon!
I can’t wait to make this! I make bubble and squeak in a cast iron skillet and throw in a bit of left over meat or bacon. Grew up on this. Love the flavors.
