This car was huge. I drove mine to campus, opened the trunk, took out my 26 inch bicycle, and rode around to my classes.
I had one of these back in HS! It was a great car! It handled great for a land yacht and was very dependable and the rust prevention on these things was superior! We finally sold it in the mid 90's and it was still as clean and rust free as it was in 1971! Not so great on gas with the 360 under the hood, but over all one of the best cars I ever had and very dependable.
This is why all this police cars were so fast. As heavy as the car was. The power was off the charts. And most police agency's had rather use Chrysler power vehicles than all the other brands. The 440.cid was the most powerful Engine of all the car manufacturers for the police package vehicles. Which were the Plymouth Fury line

This is a beautiful HUGE car! It's awesome! The interior is luxurious. The quarter panels are massive pieces of sheet metal.
I've owned my 73 fury3 for 11 years and has been my daily driver for a year now... 113 mile commute each way rollin over Pacheco pass at a solid 80 mph and still pullin 20mpg. poopoo on newschool
Yeah poo poo compared to my 55-85mpg 2007-2013 french peugoet 207 sw 1.6 turbo diesal 90hp.... but guess which one i wish i was driving?
Mopars advanced features included torsion bar suspension - very good high speed control!
All you MoPar fans, watch out for trolls like "MoPar unreliable." He has some serious "issues!" He wants you to over react and get kicked off of You Tube. Don't "play with him," avoid him at ALL costs! He just hates ALL Mo Pars and wants to harass and bully anyone who owned these classics and had any positive experiences owning ANY of them. I had a bad ass sixty six Plymouth with a 383/4 speed and it was impressive,it would lay you back in the seat!!!!!!!
Had a '71 SportFury fastop rear glass 2dr with the 383 2bbl (cast crank!) engine and 2.76 gears. It was a highway beast!! Got decent mpg, even after I added a Direct Connection .430" lift cam (260 degree, 113 LSA) and a '72 Fury I 400HP police interceptor Thermoquad and intake manifold assembly complete (NO EGR!!!). Should have kept it, my plan was to add dual exhaust and 3.23 gears, but it was rusty (not real bad) under the vinyl top and in the lower quarters. I miss that car!!

Wiping out plymouth was disasterous!
Chrysler had originally intended to discontinue Dodge, but the survey said, nobody wanted a "Plymouth" branded truck. So, Dodge stayed and Plymouth went. Personally, I'm glad. i like Dodges better. These fuselage cars were horrible to be honest. They had lots of electrical problems, bad visibility, and a suspension system that made every road feel like a sheet of ice. That's why they're getting rare. Most of them ended up getting wrecked.
+Kyle Dexter My mechanic here in France, told me that Mopar cars are really difficult to drive because they don't give you road feedback. Marshmallow steering, excessively soft suspension, add to this bias ply tires and 370 hp, you've got the recipe for a wreck. Comparatively, driving a GM car of this era with radial tires is easy as can be.
Elwood Blues maybe when compared to the small crap boxes made in France. But here in America, the big MOPAR car's drive a lot better than big Ford and GM cars do!
No, he runs a garage which repairs american cars only. I never drive something other than a Chevy Monte Carlo, so I can't tell. We were comparing Chevy and Charger, because he had a Charger to restore.

Had a 71 Plymouth Fury III with 360 in high school. It was old and tired when I got it. Didn't last long.
I so wish I could find a 70s fury that I could afford . My dad always had Chryslers in the 70s and I adored them.
Have a look at 2.12, then Google Dodge Phoenix. The 1969-1971 Plymouth Fury was assembled and sold by Chrysler Australia as the Dodge Phoenix.

OK, I am not a big Chrysler fan, I admit it. But, I did drive fir a few years a Plymouth Belvedere wagon. The front end on that car was a constant maintenance thing and it seemed cheap. But, the torsion bar ride was phenomenal. No dive and it never bottomed out. I wish all manufacturers had torsion bars.
senorkaboom ,You do not mention the model year of that Belvedere Wagon. All, I Can say is the suspension design and materials improved with each passing year until discontinued production in the last Plymouth Gran Fury/ Dodge Diplomat/ Chrysler Fifth Avenue M Body Platform built in 1993. My 1973 Imperial Lebaron 4 Dr never gave me any problems right up to the day I traded it in with 276,000 miles for a 1984 Dodge 300 ES Sedan. I really miss that Imperial. I never should have traded it in.

Yea they were a boat, but a very manageable boat! I owned a 1970 Fury I Wagon that was a Fire Chiefs personal on/off duty car. That was spect out as a State Police Interceptor with heavy duty suspension, brakes (power front disk), with the High Performance 440 Super Commando 370 hp and HD Torque Flite with the same 3:23 Posi rear. That was in 1974, while stationed at Ft. Carson CO, that I bought off a car lot that specialized in municipal sales. Later on in life, like in the early 80’s a good friend had a 1971 Fury III Sport Coupe, not a GT, but fairly fast anyways. That had a 440 4 brl Dual Exhaust with HD Torque Flite and a former owner installed 3:55 posi, cause he used that car to haul a good sized, 5,000 lbs boat that hated pickups. My friend was a Underwater Demolition Diver, that lived the huge trunk an air shocks that could hold at least 1,000 lbs of tanks a diving equipment! He was even able to fit his 12’ Zodiac Inflatable Raft and 35 HP Chrysler Outboard Motor, gas tank and all his diving equipment for a weekend, in the huge truck and still have room in the car for a cooler an two friends! That car was the BOMB as we all affectionately called it. He ran that car for 4 years, till the rust from salt water dod its best to ruin a good car, after putting all the salt water diving equipment and raft in the truck after a days fun.
Plymouth, like Studebaker, was way ahead of it's time. Headlight wipers pre-dated Mercedes & EVAP systems in 1971? Both marques now sadly gone.
Headlight washers actually came from Scandinavia, where they were required by law in 1972, and spread to the rest of Europe. European lights were dimmer and when combined with snow and dirty roads, it became a necessity to wash them.
I had a 1972 police special with a built 360 engine. Very nice car till going home one one on Hwy 10 towards Ellensburg a bif four point buck deer jumped over the Jersey wall along the river and right in front of me. Pretty much wrecked the car. Sold it for parts.
Late 60s and early 70s Furys and Newports were really kind of "dark" looking cars. In fact, in the television series incarnation of "Batman", the Batmobile was an heavily modified 1966 Chrysler Newport.
The 66 Bat mobile was a Lincoln Futura concept car. No it wasn't a Plymouth.
nofrackingzone Nobody said it was a Plymouth. Learn to read. It was a Chrysler Newport convertible. Anyway, that's what they tell you when you see it on the Universal Studios Tour. Or should I say IF. The car is privately owned and it is moved around. It isn't always at Universal Studios. And when you see it in person, you can kind of see the Newport buried under there, if you know what a 1966 Newport convertible looks like.

I had a 2 door 71 with 360 engine. I was using as my every day car till one day it started overheating. I spent a fortune trying to fix it, but no such luck.
there's the same model here in France it looks so cool but must i buy it? I'm interested by american cars but for the first i'll get ,is this model a good choice?
fufuIVBecause it's a Plymouth, it will at least keep the price down. Hopefully. I'm not sure what the markets are like in France, but if it's anything like in Sweden, classic American cars are expensive.

The torque flight transmissions were bullet-proof and the high performance engines were quick and capable of nearly 150 miles per hour. What differentiated Chrysler models as more upscale from the Plymouth Sport Fury (equivalent to Chevrolet Caprice)? A Buick Electra 225 was much more luxurious than the 71 Chevrolet Caprice. Any car experts know the answer?

Turn signal indicators. There were none on the dash display. Drove my mom nuts when she would ride with me ("Where are your turn signal lights?" "Out there on the hood!")

Scott Wiler Part of that was a lack of an aftermarket for most MOPARS. That’s why the price of nice MOPARS is so high - not many are left because you couldn’t really repair them like a Ford or GM product.
Ted Brenneman For C body Mopar that is true. I have a 1968 Sports Fury. Aftermarket parts are made for A,B and E bodies but nothing for C body.

i mean rust is a pain but in your case its a build project killer not just a $$$$ set back to a good paint job and road safety and i don't know how hard it is to get interior / soft parts but id guess is like playing where's waldo +$$. found this looking for the headlight wipers as id like to add it to my car ( and this is way before i had any knowledge of it being a factory option i found this out to day and 6+ year's ago thought about finding a brand " X fancy washing heated wiper kit " but id kinda given up on making my own because im busy restoring other parts of the car for now but if its a easy swap im all in ) because somehow i end up getting caught in the rain at night and im afraid of denting / missing up my front end at the gas station cleaning the lights bulbs with the cheap'o flat stick from dead bugs and longer road trip grime

You got a lot of car for your money with a Plymouth.
I remember these when they came out. Huge, barge like handling, lumbering cars. They tended to rust out quickly. Not the best Plymouth had offered.
