- Today we're taking a first (pre-release) look at the Diamond DA-50 developed by Skyward Simulations, and being released soon by Orbx. I take it for a flight from Kern Valley in eastern California, and put it through it's paces. Lovely aircraft with a few rough edges, but already very good.

I like Diamond as an enthusiast, but that pillar in one's field of view has got to be one of the most baffling decisions Diamond has ever made.
Totally agree. Idk if its ok in real life, but it blocks the field of view too much in the sim.
Yeah thats why i dont fly it
The instructions are correct regarding the strobes lol. Since the aircraft doesn’t have a “rotating beacon,” the strobes are used for letting people know you are about to start the engine. I even see Cirrus SRs do it. Other than that, you are correct. If you have a rotating beacon, you’d turn that on, then turn strobes, and landing lights, on once you are getting on the run way.
Nice video. That thick canopy pillar would be a real pain though. While not exactly known for their flight models the undisputed champions for external texturing and interior eye candy is Carenado.
It's cool to see the Diamond DA-50 come to MSFS - thanks for the review! Will definitely keep an eye on this addon.
1. The FADEC revs up for Engine Braking, and allows for a steeper descent.
2. Nobody ever had a soft first Landing in any Diamond type. These Airframes are built primarily for efficiency at the cost of low speed control authority with Flaps and Gear down. It catches everybody out, especially with a forward CoG with only two occupants.
3. It competes with the Bonanza and is better in every single way. The Market for Single Engine 4+2 Seaters is very underserved.
Another great presentation...From the front it looks surprisingly like a BFF.108 ! Thank you for all your hard work...Roger...Pembrokeshire..
What a surprise. Didn't know anyone was developing this model for MSFS. My favorite plane at the moment is COWS DA-42 so you are right, lots of competition with similar planes and models. The DA-42 is so good that I no longer fly the 40 or 62. The visibility hurts this plane although it looks great. I fly outside the plane a lot so I guess it doesn't matter to me. Love how you stall planes. Thanks for first take of this plane.
In real life the D50 is one of the best modern, single engine ga air craft to day! I would. Love to have one in msfs. The one i have in xplane 12 is fantastic.
I’ve been waiting for this! Definitely the ultimate single GA airplane!
i think the shades flickering was beacuse of the propeller in front… or maybe i missed what you saw.
I love your airplane reviews, saw the bronco and now this one and you do it amazing!
Man! I've been hoping the DA50 would eventually make it to the sim since FSX!
Boris Audio Sounds did the soundstage for this.
Ok, so I caved and picked this up. It's honestly a wonderful plane.
I even made the case that with a few more additions, it could be up there with Just Flight or SimWorksStudios.
I had so much fun on the first flight, i honestly forgot about Diamond's horrible design decisions. 😂
In all seriousness, I got in contact with the developer to give them my thanks and he revealed he's got quite a few upgrades in store for the plane.
Have a guy on my friend list who has been flying this about for a few weeks. Could never find what plane it was until i saw this.
Strobes/Anti-Collision lights are turned on before engine start to warn people in the area that you are about to put power to the aircraft. The position lights don't flash so they don't draw the same attention to the danger.
300 hp turbo jet a fuel Continental CD-300 engine, very nice
Yes ,,,,,,Thank you Orbx I have been waiting for this plane Diamond are market leaders.
And thank you skyward simulations for your hard work.
The DA50 is a very interesting aircrsft. Never heard that someone was developing it. Top!
@antonioiozzi291, THERE is already a DA50, for MSFS 2020, for FREE, don't waste YOUR money.
@@saminaneen I don't think there's ever a freeware version of DA50 in MSFS. Can you share the link, please?
Great Video.
06:50 you can use strobes to indicate you have a engine running, when you don´t have beacon lights!
Appears to be a single engine DA-62. Nice looking machine.
Enjoyed the review as usual but this isn’t an aircraft I’d go for. I like GA aircraft with good visibility and a more ‘retro’ feel. I’m one of your fans that likes the stall tests btw 😁
I've been waiting for this aircraft, The stall characteristics are nothing like the real thing ,this need work. but over all very happy to finley see this coming This will be $16.42 USD
If I remember correctly, someone told me the strobe lights also count as the anti-collision lights. They said it just needs to be a flashing light.
Like you say. The forward visibility is not conducive to sightseeing. The rest of their effort more than makes up for it. Thanks again for your time, Mr B.
Interesting that the inboard flaps are split flaps, where the upper surface does not deflect with the flap. Looks a little odd that it's only the inboard portion.
a beast in real life
does it have the flip out FMS keypad in the center console arm rest? It's pretty easy to overlook if you don't know it's there since it flips away.
one more cool toy, but i more need lancair:)
Not a huge fan of the cockpit visibility in the DA50. Same with the DA62…
yep thats a big put off.
Indeed, terrible cockpit view
Otherwise they are both great aircraft!
Holy I need this!!!
It's a shame it has a similar A-pillar to the DA-62. It's obstructive to your view in the sim. Looks and sounds really good tho.
This plane kinda reminds me of the YO-3 Quiet Star.
As others have mentioned, the poor forward visibility kills it for me. It would otherwise be a plane I’d be interested in purchasing.
Cockpit visibility is so bad on upper tier Diamond planes. I don't get it
I think it's a byproduct of the gullwing doors and their faraday caged cockpits or whatever they call it.
Basically they build the cabin to be sealed off, fire proofed and reinforced so that in the event of a crash the airframe crumples around or sheers off to give the people a higher chance of survival.
I think some of their unused concepts had the cabins being able to eject from the airframe with chutes and flotation ability so that it acted as a lifeboat if it bailed over water. :P
Does the ECS test work ? On the DA-42 it's a mandatory test. Pitot heat and stall warn heat should also be turned on.
The airport you took off from, was that KL05?
Looks alright, but doesn't look as good as the aerobask DA50 in x-plane
How do you get the drone cam to not jump about and go slow?
Turn it's speed down :)
Horrible visibility makes it very unpleasant to fly. But some will still enjoy it, it does look good
I’m struggling with the climb rate.
I have to climb at around 90 kts to get 1000 VS. That’s at 92% power.
That’s awful slow. That’s at around 75% MTOW.
That’s accurate. 1000ft/min for a piston single is pretty good. And matches book value for the airplane
I bought the Skyward Simulations DA-50 RG and on my 49" monitor it is all a pillars with a tiny little round hole to see out the front! It is IMPOSSIBLE to return anything you buy in MSFS. I wish I could return this DA=50RG. I LOVE Diamond aircraft but on MSFS you cannot see out the front of them. They are only good for IFR. Sucks... I emailed the skyward support contact in the MSFS details for the DA-50RG and the email came back undeliverable.
I am stuck in the load screen after chose this airplane
Until you closed the door I was quite interested but with the door closed, what an awful view!
Make for xplane!!!!!
Did THEY, pay for that PAYWARE scenery too?
It's freeware scenery. Kern Valley is available from flightsim.to.
YOU hit, the trees, at time frame 26:01, YOU should have flown, in from the opposite runway, redo again, and do better.
I notice YOU deleted my REAL comment, when I told the TRUTH, about YOU, but left, my other comments. I as well as millions, of other people, are used to YOUR censorship, and non-transparency.
