- Today we're taking a look at the COWS Diamond DA-42 TDS from Orbx, and taking it for a short flight from Gold Coast to Southport in Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Huge thanks to Orbx for reaching out with the opportunity to take a look at the DA-42, and the opportunity to share it with you!

p.s. apologies for calling it the "TDI" here and there - too many aircraft! lol
The views from the cockpit are a big improvement for this one. I think this variant has the turbo charged diesel engines which is why they sound like they’re coming apart 😂
Handy in Aussie especially when you are flying in the outback
They sound horrible don’t they!
Been flying this for a few hours and it’s really very good. It’s very rewarding to fly and clearly a lot of work has been put into this especially the trimming which is very good enabling relaxing flight. It’s not hard to fly as you would expect but still requires some care and thought. Great addition to sim for sure, thx for video
Love modern avionics!!!!.. Its where it's at ❤
This is what happens when professionals take on the job. The 3D model, sounds, systems, textures are all at a high level. And all this for a small price.
With the amount of time and effort you have shown in the past, don't be surprised if the trade comes to you with this type of offering. You deserve much more.
It is developed by DA42 instructors for personal training. That is why you do not find tablet or fancy stuff. Focus on flight model and system.. Some says it is on par with A2A flight model.
On start you should wait until glow warning extinguish. Yes - it diesel, but it runs on standard jetA1 fuel .
Thanks for the video. Definitely gonna get my hands on this airplane. Im a big fan of all Diamond aircraft. Hope the DA50 will also make its way in to the sim :D
I also hope for a study level DA50! „got friends“ used to work on it but sadly cancelled the project 😢
Thanks for the video! 👍
I had a feeling you'd be saying "It's very, very good" :)
Thanks for the interesting flight in a new plane, along with great scenery!
Most of the flight schools in Spain/Europe are using this model. Along with the DA22 single engine. Your review is definitely influencing my buy at the moment. Along with the Fenix looks like it stands out from the crowd. I love the modern avionics too. Cheers!
When starting, you have to wait for the “R/L GLOW” caution to disappear. Just FYI, love the videos🤟🏼
I enjoyed flying this around Switzerland. Took off and landed at 4 different airports. Great fun but there are some bugs. Would not let me use the Nav button for some reason...
This is my new favorite low and slow discovery flight aero plane
I think FSLTL may have detected you crossed the stop bar and hence the liner was waiting for you to go. Anyway great video as always Jonathan and fantastic aircraft.
It's hardly early as I just bought said aircraft an hour before this vid aired. Anyway awesome content as usual Jonathan. I watched Twotonemurphy livestream a couple of weeks ago and he cut an engine, put nose down and restarted engine via windmilling it very much is study level as the devs are learning to fly this plane and wanted something to learn in on the ground.
Yep - it would appear the cogs within Orbx took quite some time to turn :) Still happy they thought of me to help get the word out :)
@@jonbeckett absolutely Jonathan, you are my main youtuber all things with wings, keep up the great work.
Great video, as always! Cannot say I like the sound of this airplane, but as it is done by Boris Audioworks and they had access to the real plane, it is probably authentic. The plane looks wonderful, but it seems there is not much to do except pointing it in the right direction. Wonderful when you are a real world pilot, but in the sim I prefer a plane that is maybe a tiny bit more challenging. Probably will get the COWS DA-42 anyway, just to support the devs who really put a lot of passion into the project.
The sounds might well be the authentic ones, seems to me it's the way they've been spliced/looped together that is the problem here. Hopefully an easy and quick fix, as I'm sure it will put off some potential purchasers.
It’s a bit rough and growly think of the last Diesel thing you heard
They're running circles around SWS with the "tease but don't release" shanagans :)
Stall and pitot heat overheat very easily on the ground unless it's extremely cold. I generally wait until I'm off the ground to flip that switch.
Good to know. I've been told 2 minutes in the past - but I guess it varies from plane to plane.
Nice plane!
Pretty 😍
Southport Airport is a private airport and only for single engine aircraft. The only twin that has been allowed there is the Cessna 337 Skymaster.
YGLA was just released and is very good
Pretty sure I say you flying around the GC tonight.
Thanks for the video and I found that this "first look" to be very interesting. From what you demonstrated I think that I am going to buy this. One thing though, I wonder if the circuit breakers operative.
I believe many of them are, yes.
The gear can be dropped all the way to VNE. If you are high you can always deploy them and pull the engines to idle
I was thinking about getting this plane, and now I'm going to! Thanks for the video. (ok, maybe not, I cannot find this aircraft in the marketplace.)
ORBX STORE
The stall heat fail message keeps popping up for me as well.
I wish more developers would put more effort into a fantastic flight model instead of gimmicks.
I’d put this flight model just a half step below the Comanche.
On the Microsoft forum, some folks have complained about not having the option for a visible copilot. But I see one in yours.
What are they missing?
No idea - I've had the opposite in the past :)
Thanks for your review. Looks nice but I got 'a say it sounds like an out of balance washing machine.
Is it better to uninstall the Working Title G1000NXI update in MSFS before installing this?
Great video as always, thank you for sharing. I do not like the engine audio at all though 😞
How does this compare to the default DA-62 that's available? Just wondering if it's worth spending the $$$
It's very similar. Visibility is a LOT better.
How can I get views like yours? With the camera moving around the aircraft so smoothly like yours?
I just subscribed to you by the way! Good content! 👍🏻
It's the drone camera. If you plug an xbox controller in they are pre-configured to control the drone camera.
Looks great but I hate the roof. It seems to be the only area where the curve is noticeably made up of straight lines. Also looks completely untextured?
Not sure what you mean by straight lines, and also it's a white airplane. It will look like that. There aren't any rivets, it's composite, all you see is reflective material.
@@hotshot4512 From the inside, I mean. The curves are generally well done apart from the roof viewed from inside the cockpit where the curve is clearly made up of straight lines.
@@laurence1654gotcha I'll let them know
@@laurence1654apparently the straight lines are intentional as some planes there have a sun visor.
Might be you?
