My god man this is my very first modification to an old laptop I had never seen a connection like that so the only thought in my head up until you said it's an adaptor was that I'm about to spend a fortune on extinct parts. I could almost feel my blood pressure taking off

I literally just bought that adapter on ebay for $4.50 total. It is coming from China. If you pay more you can get it in a few days.
thanks, at first I was really nervous opening up a laptop since it is my first time but I want to upgrade to an SSD. I opened it and I saw that it was a 5400 RPM seagate hdd it is super slow. Now I can just replace it myself

I have a Pavilion DV6000 with Windows 7 that is very slow. I have not upgraded Windows because my embroidery program only runs with Windows 7 and any upgrade would make it and two expensive embroidery machines obsolete. If I upgrade the drive to SSD would it be any faster or is Windows 7 one of the reasons for the slow speed? The RAM is already at 8 GB which i believe is the maximum recommended for this old laptop, unless you believe an update on RAM is still possible and beneficial. I really like your clear no nonsense videos and recommendations.

i highy recommend you to upgrade to SSD you will right away see the big jump in performance like nothing before!
BUT you will need to clone the OLD HDD to the new SSD to conserve the windows and programs.
make sure you get an ssd bigger than the HDD capacity. and you can clone it by plugging the SSD via usb to sata adapter: amzn.to/3tb9OOY
and download a cloning program i use: Macrium Reflect (piratebay has it 😏)
once you clone the main hdd to the ssd they power off and replace the drives and power on and it may gie 1st boot blue screen but 2nd restart will be ok.

I've got a few other older laptops laying around that I can bring back to life
you should and revive and keep them for future relics.
The real trick is to find the correct video card driver for this machine. If it was intel it would be no problem. But I can't find the AMD driver for my 9700 model.

Network driver but at this point I think that the network card is dead i tried everything and even contacting HP support they couldnt help me but they did try to.@@uFixTek

Does anybody still use laptops this old as their main device. I collect hp laptops from this Era because they were beautifully designed but these laptops have a very high failure rate. Most of them are fried. Took me a long time to find the special edition versions that weren't insanely high priced. I'm still missing a few of them. Their was a bronze one a bamboo one, this one with a really cool black and beige design missing those 3 have the rest
ya they were nice, but not well made they had lots of bad thermal design, and i recall i used to get them for repair daily almost. but nice to have them in the collection pile.

I have the bronze one special edition...updated ssd on this machine and windows 7 works good but hd UA-cam videos lags. I have 3 gigs of ram. The keyboard on this one is pretty amazing feels like mechanical keys.😊

Regarding your question: dont replace the CPU as its waist of money because all the CPU compatible with this socket are discontinued and are almost the same.
about the ram you can upgrade to 8GB ram and even with 4gb ram you can have a windows 10 without any issues. and i would recommend if you have 4GB ram 1st replace the HDD to SSD and you will see BIG difference in speed, then after if you wish you can add more ram depending the applications that you will be using. 8GB MAX

HP Compaq CQ58 you can install up to 8gb ram same as dv6, the CPU i dont recommend you to replace as its the same situation as DV6, and SSD yes i would really recommend you to upgrade.

regarding your question: depending on type and brand and size of the ssd. the bigger GB the faster file transfer speed and the type of the Dram chip and controller. also dont mistaken the peak speed with steady speed, also the type of file you copying is important and is it one file or two file.
i can do a big text file full of 0000 and another mixed numbers and it will affect the transfer speed, after GB's
therefore i would say get a good brand SSD like Samsung or crucial , they have dram chip and reliable. avoid kingston and ADATA.
Are there any processor upgrades available for this laptop? I also need a speaker wire and a wifi chip. Would you be able to make a video on those subjects by any chance?
the cpu is not really up-gradable, you can change it but the range of the speed upgrade is almost the same.
and regarding the speaker wire ! what you mean you want to know where the wire is or where the wifi board is?

I have a same laptop (2 nd hp db6000) ,change for ssd hard drive, upgrade ram , windows 10 work very quickly but ventilator work hardly, noisy , work every time 😱. Do you know how ?

regarding your question: okay can you give me more info:
1. when you replaced the HDD for SSD, did you install windows?
if you just replaced the hdd to ssd you will need to create a windows 10 usb boot drive and then plug the usb into the laptop and turn it on and right away keep pressing the ESC key and once you get the boot menu choose f9 to boot from your usb and follow the installation guide.

@@uFixTek hello. Thank you for the quick reply. We installed Windows 10 on the SSD already and then when we put it in the laptop and boot it, it said something along the lines of no boot device.
I will most definitely look into the videos tomorrow and see what happens. I read that hp has an advance bios setting, I can't seem to get into it.
oh boi that's not how you do it :P watch my videos, 1st you need to place the SSD in the laptop then you place the USB drive that you have prepared with windows installation inside, then boot into usb to start installing the windows.
and your laptop only has Legacy boot only.
I have a dv6000 but with a Centrino. I ran Lubuntu there for a bit. UA-cam 1080p lags but Netflix 1080p doesn't. Weird. Anyway, since the performance wasn't that good, I just turned it into a dedicated music player by installing Volumio.

Regarding your question, for the laptop to turn on you don't need to have the ssd or hdd in it, if you remove the ssd and power on it should power on and it should say no boot drive.
remove the drive and see if it turns on and gives you a boot msg, without powering off!

🫠Regarding your question, you can install a 1TB ssd 2.5" and for the ram check the max ram capacity by opening the CMD and type:
wmic memphysical get maxcapacity
that will tell you the max ram capacity.

will all the drivers on this laptop automatically installed as well? such as mousepad, bluetooth, wifi, and the media touching panel (which was its selling point 16 years ago)?
yes it will we have installed windows 10 last week and after installing and full windows update everything got installed fine, except the audio driver. but you can download the audio driver for wind 7 o 8 and install in wind 10 and it will work just fine. if you have problems with any driver let me know and i will send it to you.

Tho the RAMs not yet arrived and being installed, the desktop which was a gift from my dad 16 years ago came alive again after 11 years stored somewhere in the house. regarding your question: if you want to install windows 10 on your computer (format or new ssd or hdd) you will need to create windows 10 usb boot drive, and you can do that in windows 10 or even if you in windows 7 or 8.

You lost the adapter that came with your HDD, if you still have the adapter use that it can be use up to 2TB SSD without any issues.

regarding your question: your power light are turning on and stays on?, if you do the steps again and do the heating at max heat for 8-10min 1" distance with low air and max heat on hairdryer.
and let it cool down on its own don't force cooling or move it for 10-15min after heating.

because you should be able to boot to usb even without the ssd or hdd installed. can you?
