Jason is hands down the most generous pickup maker as far as helping other builders. What I learned from Jason was more oriented towards getting my company to grow over the past 10 years. Great to see such a class act on the D&P show.
Wow. Jason Lollar, the best of the best and a real genius. I purchased several sets of P-90's from his company. They were and still are the cat's meow, and I'll never buy pups from anywhere else but his custom store. Good seeing him on here!
im so late to this party but i did really enjoy this video. Cheers to Jason Lollar. After watching this 2 years later i am looking forward to getting some of his amazing pickups . Brilliant!
Wow the vintage Les Paul Custom picture at 7.26 is my guitar! So happy to be a part of the show, even in an indirect way! Greetings from London UK, gents! :)
YEAH!! awesome episode, thanks Doug and Pat. and thanks to Jason Lollar, who had the cajones to do the show!! Jason Lollar kicks ass!! he sent me some extra parts for my '67 P90 SG ( thanks again! )I have imperials in one of my favourite Heritage guitars, and several sets of P90's too...those staple P90's look real nice, will be trying them out soon. muchos gracias, amigos
I gotta say, I've played one strat, one tele, and one LP/p-90 with some sort of Lollar pickups in them. They were all STELLAR! Cheers Jason, Doug & Pat... great show.
I wind my own thanks to Jason's inspiration, got his winding book years ago and It stoked my interest. I've done P-90's, Strat and Tele single coils, Gold Foils and bass pups. I've even done several rewinds on vintage pickups and the results were gratifying. Jason is such a great resource, I learn something every time he speaks.
Wow! All this talk about getting the tone with different pickups, getting that VOX back into production is what you should be chasing. Blew the Fender away. Jason seems a really cool guy, and some great playing from Doug. Boy you were on fire today! Great show as always, why this isn't viewed in the millions I'll never know.
Great show guys: very inspired AND inspiring. I have a set of Imperials low-wind. These are the best pickups I ever played and I played a lot of them ! They either roar or clean up pretty well, very touch-sensitive. I just LOVE the neck pickup. Almost perfect for every style (but metal). Cheers guys and thumbs up to Jason ! \m/
I have a set of Lollar Blackfaces in my strat. When I installed them, I didn't even toy with the pickup heights, I just put them in a roughly generic position and what do you know, the volume output was pretty much perfectly matched. Easily the most balanced strat set I've ever played, plus exactly the tone I was looking for from my strat. More recently, the bridge Tim Shaw pickup in my Les Paul has gone microphonic, and I'm debating replacing them, so naturally Lollar Imperials are at the top of my list. Also, you get the best customer service with Lollar pickups. If I email them, I always get a reply, often from Jason himself!
Took me exactly 3 episodes to fall for good ole Pat ! far as I can tell He's what the opposite of egotistical looks like. Doug is a great compliment ..thanks guys.
Hey!!! I had a nice conversation and a couple of drinks with John Sebastian 10 years or so ago and we both had the same Heritage guitar. He didn't bring up autoharps. I'm not a guy looking for the tone you are (play clean and almost clean a lot) but love humbuckers (hate overwound ones) and enjoy watching you even though I know we're viewing through a different lens. Do high end audio for a living the last 30 years and our language is much more arcane.... As bad as wine freaks or the green coffee beans I roast. Loved seeing Jason and watching him get tickled. Hope all is well and be safe.
Some of the best demos of pickups i have seen. Gotta get some Lollar imperials for my Les Paul.....that is the sound! Jason is the absolute best, very knowledgeable and easy-going. And to Doug and Pat-you guys are great! I subscribed and i don't do that very often. Keep up the good work!
I have a set of the Tele 52's in my Fender American Standard Tele. The articulation is incredible. Really head and shoulders above the rest. Great episode guys.
I can't wait to try some Lollar pickups after watching this! They have a great reputation - as do Lindy Fralins as well. The gold foils sounded beautiful. Doug is a GREAT guitar player!
What an entertaining and enlightening video! I was almost shocked (in a good way) at the price of his pickups. Considering the work he puts in to the quality of his pickups I think his prices are very fair. I will definitely consider his pickups the next time I need some pickups.
It reminds me of a mechanic's work. You duplicate all factors but the one you are testing or tweaking or repairing, so that when you find the solution, you know it was only the one thing you changed last. Jason is a mechanical genius, probably a mathematical genius, an EE genius, he's a dozen forms of genius wrapped into one!!!
The biggest surprise was the gold foil especially through the Vox, tons of personality and no annoying feedback. The staple was second as we think it sounds better than the original but still retains the same tone characteristics. Both very fun to play and we agree about having a P90 based guitar and being able to put that staple pickup in there. And it looks really cool too. D&P
Good show. I'd like to see you interview someone like Kinman or Dimarzio too. They're the only pickup makers who managed to get noiseless single coils right. Kinman puts something like 170 parts in his pickups.
We would love that too and are working on it. If all the people that watch the show would email the people they want on it that helps. Then Pat contacts them and puts the pressure on. It's a beautiful thing. D&P
Y'all think you're joking , but Electric Autoharp IS a thing , and one regularly appears in my local jam sessions . ( Piezo , primarily intended to play into pa or small acoustic amp, to be heard when playing with group of people with guitars , fiddle, and mandolins .
Great show guy's, but I wish you would have played Oscar after the paf imperials to truly compare the tones. keep up the good work Tonemeisters. love your show!
Good question and we didn't for a couple of reasons: the Imperials were in the all mahogany Collings guitar Jason brought and not a maple cap Les Paul style (like the Heritage H150 we usually use) so we felt the comparison wouldn't be usable and lastly we didn't have the time to put them in the Heritage. Maybe Jason will loan us a set and we'll do that as well as adding them to the "Chasing Oscar" project on our web site. D&P
That vox was killer. Was it all JUST the vox giving us that awsome overdrive or was there some pedal help? And those gold foils just floored me. I have a custom, figured maple top/mohog body tele i am building and those foil pups just found a home.
I saw a Johan Segeborn video that compared the old Gibson ABR1 bridge vs the newer Nashville style and was stunned . I really didn’t think it would make that much of a difference. Everything changes tone I guess. I heard Tom Murphy say the aged checkered finish changes tone. I laughed at first but I’m not so sure anymore.
The Doug and Pat Show Nice, are you going to put the imperials through the 'chasing oscar' treatment at some point? That's such an awesome resource you have created there
If we answered this one already rack it up to old age. Yes indeed, we re-recorded this because we couldn't use the original and wanted the Hard Days Night thing for "Pat's Theme". All the music on the show including "Chasing Oscar" is by us in our D&P Studios where we film the show. Love the twang on Vic Flick, glad you picked up on that. D&P
Very impressive Jason! Great show guys. decisions decisions....and Doug, did you play extra aggressive today? Especially after that whole bit about a guitarist trying out his new pickups and not sounding any better!! :-) the pressure was on (you sounded great)
Seymour Duncan and Dimarzio have also a very large selection to choose from for bass different types of guitars pickups too also fender has a large selection of pickups too and even in their custom shop you just tell em what you want from fender and they will build three or four Proto types for you to choose from it’s all depends on what kind of sound you’re looking for
Freaky Choke Pedal - I wish someone would make a frequency choker for guitar. I was thinking it would be cool if only the E minor pentatonic notes sounded - all other notes go silent. Then you could choose modes / keys and it would be fun to only have the Phrygian scale sound - and so on. I got the idea working at a Transducer company looking at a frequency choker that was like a donut - the engineers could remove a frequency coming down a cable that was bad data or noise. I wonder if you could filter out a A note - all the A notes on the guitar. Thanks, Jasen
Jason is hands down the most generous pickup maker as far as helping other builders.
What I learned from Jason was more oriented towards getting my company to grow over the past 10 years. Great to see such a class act on the D&P show.
yeah, let him talk, guy with glasses.
That's really cool...you make great stuff yourself!
Jason makes deadly pickups
I believe you, and I have listened to RCpickups and they sound fantastic.
Gandalf and Radagast talking tone with Doug, and I'm the fly on the wall. This rocks.
Who is who though? Pat is Gandalf? Or radagast?
Wow. Jason Lollar, the best of the best and a real genius. I purchased several sets of P-90's from his company. They were and still are the cat's meow, and I'll never buy pups from anywhere else but his custom store. Good seeing him on here!

That guitar looks like Dracula was the original owner.
I have the Dirty Blonde's, and every time I play my Strat - I fall-in-love with the Incredible Tone. Thank You Mr. Lollar.
YEAH!! awesome episode, thanks Doug and Pat. and thanks to Jason Lollar, who had the cajones to do the show!!

I've bought 2 Duncan's but now I need to try some Lollar's.
Thanks for this gents.
Tons of love from Canada :)
This really opened my eyes (and ears) to Lollar. Every pickup sounded great in the capable hands of Doug. I must do more investigation.
Wow! All this talk about getting the tone with different pickups, getting that VOX back into production is what you should be chasing. Blew the Fender away. I really like Lollar products. No BS. Great pickups.
I have a set of Lollar Blackfaces in my strat. ...fascinating...loved the sound and playing of the..Goldfoil thru the Vox✌️
Just a thanks for all you do and a show of appreciation. Love every single episode.
Took me exactly 3 episodes to fall for good ole Pat ! far as I can tell He's what the opposite of egotistical looks like. Doug is a great compliment ..thanks guys.
Lollar P-90's are the best I ever heard!!

Came in my feed. Excellent stuff. Thank you. Subscribed
Playing my Nash Tele w/Lollars while watching :)
Great show, Jason is the best.
Those imperials sound amazing. Thanks for the vid.
I'm Pat.
great background story, great interview and stunning tones...cool
Great show, so professional!!! I do like Lollar pups very much!!! Pleasure to see master himself !! :)
What an entertaining and enlightening video! I was almost shocked (in a good way) at the price of his pickups. Considering the work he puts in to the quality of his pickups I think his prices are very fair. I will definitely consider his pickups the next time I need some pickups.
Thank you for sharing ! I just got a set of Imperials for my LP. Keep up the good work!

Jason Lollar is THE MAN! My number one Tele has his Regal WRHB pickups. His work is amazing!
I am curious which pu surprised you guys the most. That staple made me want a p90 platform! Clear, bell-like, and diverse tones.
great playing. Very expressive, great dynamics.
Awesome episode! Thank you so much guys!
never heard a bad sounding Lollar pup.
The show always getting better, great guys :-)

Sounds like more of a Mafia thing. :-) But I'll write to Kinman. I'd like to know what goes into those 170 parts because I can't imagine what.
Great show guys. I loved the Gold Foils.
nice guys! How much crow did ya have to eat for this to happen? LOL! Jason's a pretty cool guy! I've known him a few years, great guy!
Don Butler
Yeah Don, you know we can be pretty persistent and we got lucky with Jason and hope to see him again on the show in the future. D&P
Excellent!! I'm sure it'll be just as informative as this one was!
Great pickups they all sound great
Super cool video, thank you for inviting a legend here, keep this good habit please :)
Super impressed with the manufacturing ethos. Makes me want to build Lollar pickups.
Y'all think you're joking , but Electric Autoharp IS a thing , and one regularly appears in my local jam sessions . ( Piezo , primarily intended to play into pa or small acoustic amp, to be heard when playing with group of people with guitars , fiddle, and mandolins .

Love the show. Doug plays great love to hear Pat play. Maybe a Jam.
That Vox is a magical special amp !!! This was a great video Thanks !
That vox was killer. Was it all JUST the vox giving us that awsome overdrive or was there some pedal help? And those gold foils just floored me. I have a custom, figured maple top/mohog body tele i am building and those foil pups just found a home.
Jason Seems like a really Awesome guy!!
Jason Lollar was a riot to have on and a good sport about the abuse we laid on him in the set up to his appearance. D&P
Great video :) You're all legends!
Thank you so very much Jason Lollar.
Can't get enough P 90 tone & PAF tone. Keep em coming boys ... and thanks !
When Jason said Ampeg V-4 ,I had to smile.Played one back in the day!Volume😎👍
What an excellent guitar player. He’s definitely got the thang.
great show guys! hilarious intro.... more Pat dreaming sequences please!
You got it. D&P
"what kind of voicings they use" - That's why he's the best
I’ve used Lollars in most of my modded guitars. P90s, CC, Firebirds, a single Thunderbird. So much better than the ChiComs I replaced.
Jason's staples killed, thanks for the show!
Excellent show, great idea to bring Mr Lollar. Happy 2017. KEEP IT UP!
Thank you Jason Lollar and Wayne Jones at Headstrong amps for giving me the tone that's in my head. 🙏🙏🙏
The "Gold Foil" set sounds amazing... as do the other models demo'd. Damn, Lollar makes some great pickups
Hi guys great show, your have to see if ya can get Matt Gleeson from Montys guitars on ya show that would be cool!!!!
That would be great as we did a demo of some of his most excellent PAF clones a few shows ago. The problem is he's in London but you never know. D&P
The Doug and Pat Show or a webcam!!
We thought about the web cam or Facetime. Since we're so modern we can figure out something and it sure would be worth it to interview Matt. D&P
That would be a great show if it happened look forward to seeing that one. Thanks guys
I agree wholeheartedly! I have some of his PAFs in my Vaschenko singlecut and they are terrific!
Legend! Have the vintage set of Lollars in my Tele and it sings. Getting a set for my Strat now.
Maybe your best vid to date!!!
I saw a Johan Segeborn video that compared the old Gibson ABR1 bridge vs the newer Nashville style and was stunned . I really didn’t think it would make that much of a difference. Love the Gold foils!
Such a great learning experience.. Thanks a lot..
Great video. Totally enjoyed it. Would like to have heard all those pups in both amps. There was more clarity on the Deluxe. Thanks!
Excellent interview!
That was such a great intro.
"We can all just die and go wherever we're gonna go! " Luv The Doug & Pat show -
:)
That Imperial Bridge Pick-up sounds just Incredible with a newer guitar that a Badass tone!!!🙂
Wonderful Video!
this is great! thank you very much.
Those Imperials sounded excellent.
I do like the Goldfoils in the neck position only. In the bridge it gets rather thin. I talked to Ry and he agrees with me..😊.
The Imperials are nailing it!!!
Jason should make a humbucker set called “The Oscar”.
Those Imperials sound Great.
Never thought I'd see a 'dream sequence' in one of your videos ha ha
We sort of had one in the Gibson GA-40 Show where we went back in time. Welcome to Pat World on this show. D&P
The Doug and Pat Show Nice, are you going to put the imperials through the 'chasing oscar' treatment at some point? That's such an awesome resource you have created there
Who did the Vic Flick/This Boy/Hard Days Night track? Sounds pretty cool!
I thought it was really great and loved how you matched the tones/sounds and vibe of the original! Thanks guys!
Very impressive Jason! Great show guys. decisions decisions....and Doug, did you play extra aggressive today? Especially after that whole bit about a guitarist trying out his new pickups and not sounding any better!! :-) the pressure was on (you sounded great)
You got that right! With Jason sitting right there I thought it might be a good idea to give them a good workout. D&P
those gold foils sound gorgeous!
Made a Telecaster and put Lollars in that, Best sounding tele ever.
those gold foils sound sweet like a chimmy creamy sound love it !
Seymour Duncan and Dimarzio have also a very large selection to choose from for bass different types of guitars pickups too also fender has a large selection of pickups too and even in their custom shop you just tell em what you want from fender and they will build three or four Proto types for you to choose from it’s all depends on what kind of sound you’re looking for
Jason makes great pickups!
The beginning of this was amazing haha
You guys should make T-shirts with that Heavy Metal Thunder Band logo!
great playing wowzers
Woo! Those gold foils are cool!
Putting some of these in a tele with a bigsby, through a handwired ac30.
Think I found my tone... for now.
That Vox AC10 SRT is a freaking beast...
I wonder if you could filter out a A note - all the A notes on the guitar. Thanks, Jasen
Man I have got to get some of those P-90s! and a guitar to put them in. .
the AC10 sounds effing superb
I have Lollar Soapbars in my LP Special and they're amazing.
Well, I’m buying me some of them there Goldfoils.
Great playing man.
The goldfoils! what a tone.
The Gold Foils are superb...
