My late uncle was a senior official at Crewe when 71000 was shedded there - he did not have a good word to say about the loco (but he loved the Stanier pacifics - particularly the Princesses) and was one of the team who decided that enough was enough and had her condemned. He never lived to see the loco's rebuild and success after the modifications, and I would really like to have seen his reactions to the peformance once the faults were corrected.
I want to thank you so much for your video. I know the video was on the Duke of Gloucester.. But I am a mad Oliver Cromwell follower.. Have been searching for months on UA-cam for something. I live in Australia.. So surfing for anything has been hard.. You have made my day.. Thank You so much for sharing and doing what you doing. 👍
70013 Oliver Cromwell is undergoing restoration at the Great Central Railway in Loughborough, Leicestershire. There should be something on the net regarding progress. I hope this helps.
The duke has taken a long time due to its complexity as it was described by NRM as experimental and thats why they didnt want it so its been down to regular people to keep it going cant wait to see it running again
The chassis would make a great basis to construct a working Star, since we know 4003 will never steam again. I'm sure something from the GWR range of boilers would be suitable
I remember seeing the Duke completely by chance many years ago, I was at work and saw a huge plume of smoke as it was coming down the Dorking line coming into Horsham and knew only that it would be a steam Engine, got into 5o carpark by the railway just 8n time to see it pass, it looked so huge from the ground.
Very much like these ariel views. Extremely informative and entertaining. This particular video reminded me of the tine I drove GWR Castle Class Defiant at Tyseley many years ago on their short running line. Marvellous experience.
Wow what a place to walk around. As model railway lover, just imagine if somebody could model the whole place, whatever scale they choose. But that is an “if money, space and time was no object” projects…
May I ask, What Is the Loco, at 0:25, That has Blue at the back, Green Tanks and Cab? I am looking for a Loco that has been unheard of for half a Decade. Numbered 4588 Small Prairie 2-6-2T.
Seeing as Cromwell’s boiler is still at Tyseley, I don’t see her coming back for the GCR’s Winter Steam Gala as I had hoped. Also why is 46521 at Tyseley? I thought she was being overhauled on the GCR

I still remember 71000 actually working on the West Coast main line in the 1950s, what a sight.
Won’t be long now til I’ll see her on the Severn valley railway for the test run here later this year
Something magical about a Train turntable. Thanks for the upload.
Always a relaxing watch. I travelled behind Duke of Gloucester on a slightly inaccurate 'WWII evacuation train'!
Great aerial views of Tyseley 👏🏻 I can't wait for Duke of Gloucester to make its main line return 🚂

Thanks David.. Glad you liked it. I’ll keep an eye out for Oliver Cromwell’s overhaul and I’ll share any future updates I can provide 👍

I remember as a kid riding there on my bike when it was Birmingham railway museum and mooching about.....great times

Sorry for sounding like a broken record but i still think 7027 should be restored in its own right
I agree entirely!
Yawn
You have every right to say that, I agree that 7027 should indeed be restored to her working condition

@richardharrold9736 the NRM have always insisted it won't, as it's a perfectly preserved example of Swindon Works craftsmanship, for a start

I still remember seeing 70000 Britannia at the Severn Valley Railway back in 1978, with 3 others from school on a weekend trip from Euston
Nice video great camera work as usual bye for now Philip
Looks like they've got Clun Castle steamed up. I wonder where she's off to? Or are they just giving her a steam test?
Polar express duties

The one at0:37is, yes
@@AndreiTupolevthanks
I live in Gloucester and my mates dad owns a Hornby Duke of Gloucester so I really want to see it when I get given the opportunity!
Excellent video as always 👍
Looks like the Duke and Tornado will be back on the scene at the same time... Hopefully!
And Blue Peter
Would love a flyover of EMR Kingsbury, 31106 is apparently there 😥
Is Oliver Cromwell due to be started anytime soon? Can see the boiler at 2:50

Maybe 5532?
5532 is more complete than that.@@caley812studio
4588 is now at Peak Rail in Derbyshire for overhaul
It was until 2017, Then It went to Tyseley, and Now I think its still there Since there are photos taken in 2018 of 4588 at Tyseley. @@AndreiTupolev
Has that coal been in Duke of Gloucester's tender since the last time it steamed? No wonder theyre holding onto it, it'd be quite valuable now! 💋
Could be for a more recent boiler test
It had a fire in it last week
The tender was emptied as the metal based needed treatment, and the drain needed cleaning. As suggested, fresh coal added for steam up.
Did anyone else Notice what seemed like Oliver Cromwell’s boiler next to the duke?
Yes - You saw that correctly 👍

There is no room in the shed at Loughborough for 46521 right now.
@@LNER985ok.. makes sense
Does any one know the location of 6201
I believe it's at carnforth
Yeah, it’s deep inside the steam shed at carnforth - not entirely sure what’s happening to it…
@@al66class59
Not a lot until the funds have been raised.
From what I read in trackside mag about a month or two ago it's boiler was away to be lifted out the frames
6201 stripped for boiler repairs at WRC Carnforth
When is 71000 ,🚂 The Duke expected to be fully re-commissioned?,🤔
The description says it might be 2024
When its ready.
