This live version elevates the song to unbelievable heights. Freddie’s vocals and piano, Brian’s echoey guitar, John and Roger holding down the rhythm. Just perfect.
These guys earned every damn letter in the word GENIUS.They were to Rock-Pop music what Mozart was to Classical. Unparalleled Musicianship . This song was written in 1972 or 73. so you are listening to the years when Queen and other bands such as Zeppelin were creating music with a very whimsical , even Medieval feel to it . Coming directly out of the Psychedelic Sixties. It was a sound that took you on a journey of the mind. But no one mastered it like Queen did .
This is one of my favorites. No one sings a ballad as passionately as Freddie. From your reactions, it doesn't seem that you have listened to much Queen. Their catalog is so varied that it is impossible to attribute a single structure to Queen. It is probably due to the fact that each of the 4 members of Queen favored different styles of music and since they all four wrote Queen music, naturally the treatment of the music varied. How many groups write and record pop, hard rock, soft rock, rock & roll, area rock, R & B, gospel, funk, thrash rock, ballads, opera, jazz, soul, folk, progressive rock, glam rock, blues, rockabilly songs and made them all sound great?
Dr. Brian May wrote this song when he was still a student at Imperial College, He was facsinated by one of his classmate but he's too shy to approach her. Dr. Bri spent 3 years w/o daring to speak to her, he finally pays tribute to her through this song.! what a lucky lady😁 But Freddie took it to another level on stage especially in this performance! Brilliant! Now boys, you have to check out the Black side "The March Of The Black Queen" I would say it's a must because for me..before Bohemian Rhapsody there's March Of The Black Queen another Freddie's Masterpiece👏👏👌🤟👑👑
Queen II is such an amazing album. It's a concept album, where the songs blend into each other, so they're better appreciated in the context of the album. I loved this band during their early years when they were heavy.
I was at this concert, sitting up in the balcony. Updated: you have to watch this video a few times before you really appreciate it. Tbh, I don’t particularly remember this being played that evening - it’s only in the past few years that I’ve grown to appreciate it!
You're right. Queen fans are passionate, and the more you see of them, the more passionate you will become also. You guys haven't been disappointed yet.
This song is hauntingly beautiful and a hidden gem here I have no words for. As always, great reaction guys!🫶 Talk about having passion, oh Freddie had it in every pocket! One rarely hears a Guitar sing to a piano so beautifully.❤👑🌈
Thanks for your reaction! Yep, Freddie's the best vocalist in my book, too! Brian's brilliant guitar work is stunning. Wish the cameraman had focused a bit on him too. Also, there is some fine drumming & bass going on. Just what's needed, no more, no less.
Freddie's piano skills are insane! All instruments are beautifully blended and his voice is so crystal clear. I listened to this balad for hours 💞💞💞 can you please react to the Prophet's song! ❤❤🙏🏻🙏🏻
My first time seeing Queen live after this performance I m a fan for life they were absolutely amazing live , Hammersmith Oden 1975 I’m a 🇬🇧 fan an amazing Uk band !
Queen's early albums are my favorites, they did their most experimental music. What we call metal, hard rock, progressive, whimsical, and vaudeville. Queen took rock into the theatrical arena, their first 5 albums are my favorites, but the first 2 and the Innuendo album to this day are my all time favorites.
2, 3 and 4 are the best albums IMO. I hate it when I hear people say Queen, oh what... Radio Gaga, I want To Break Free, Another One Bites The Dust... NO! This was a phenomenal, ground-breaking ROCK band. Say the name Queen to me and I think of Black Queen, Killer Queen, Bo Rhap, Prophet's Song, etc etc and mostly their output pre-1980. And for that alone, they are musical legends.
@@youandwhosearmy6339 Absolutely true. If people actually took a deep dive into Queen they would understand how much they influenced many bands, and how Queen's music is so amazing.
I’m 💯 with you regarding Freddie’s vocals! He is the greatest vocalist & frontman! He sings every song with such emotion & passion. His voice is so versatile with tone/ texture depending on the song! He always makes you resonate with the song. Freddie’s voice was a God given talent. There are artists who can deliver a technical performance, but you don’t feel they are really connected with the song so the energy and emotion of the song is lost. No one compares to Freddie’s voice or stage presence! The whole band sounds great on this song. Love Brian’s and Freddie’s guitar and piano parts- hauntingly beautiful! Please consider studio version of Another One Bites The Dust; Love Of My Life Live @ Montreal or Wembley; Tie Your Mother Down Live Montreal; Staying Power Live Milton Keynes.
That's the fun of Queen - you think you know them then BOOM - what is THAT? Often bands have a singular style or a singer that sings the same no matter the song. Queen has a SOUND crafted by 4 different band mates each with a self made style. Two live songs (same time) that will blow your hats off: STONE COLD CRAZY and LIAR.
Live 1974 at the Rainbow, was their 1st TV presented concert with many excellent songs, including Freddie's creation of thrash metal "Stone Cold Crazy" which later became a favorite Metallica cover. Also, " Liar", another Freddie creation, and Seven Seas of Rhye, which was their 1st Top of the Pops presentation. These should be seen from this early live presentation to understand why their music impressed the audience with their creativity and unique performances. This was in the early "glam rock" era of David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust etc. and created exciting new genres
I have been a Queen fan since 1976. I love them dearly and never miss a day listening to them if I can help it. I’m 70 years old and I’ll never leave Queen. Thank you for being so generous with your reactions.
Nice reaction. Queen did any style of music that was available at the time, from trash metal to Motown. Queen II is more of a concept album, it is quite a heavy album with a lot of progressive rock. The White Queen is the slowest song on the album, the live version is better then the studio version. Check out Stone Cold Crazy - Queen live at the Rainbow 1974, it is officially known as the first thrash metal song, Metallica also covers this song regularly. Or can check out The March Of The Black Queen, it is more similar to Bohemian Rhapsody, in fact where Bohemian Rhapsody has 5 sections, The March Of The Black Queen has 11 different sections. Or another great early song, where everyone has a time to shine, it even includes a bass solo, is Liar - Queen live at the Rainbow 1974 (the 8 minute version).
I remember when this song was out I was in high school going over friends house with bean bag chairs beaded curtains and black lights it was awesome we played it over and over we played that song over and over
Thank you...we can never have too much Freddie and Queen....just to mention about the wing tips on Freddie’s sleeves and the bottom of his pants...this was about the Roman God, Mercury...who was also known as the Winged Messenger....Freddie was interested in everything...from the artist Richard Dadd who painted “My Fairy Feller’s Master Stroke... Freddie wrote a song about it.....he included “Prélude à làprès-midi d’un faune (as performed by The Royal Ballet”) in the video of “I Want to Break Free”....another time he performed with The Royal Ballet...as well as Live Aid, there was Fashion Aid....and in it there was a wedding scene..Freddie was a groom and Jane Seymour was the bride.......Freddie was a boxing champion...there is a pic of him with a huge silver trophy...notice his boxing stance when he’s performing.....just a little bit about Freddie’s life...amazing person..very humble in real life🤩
This is a spectacular exhibit of Freddie's piano work (Mozart esque) and did you notice how Freddie empties his lungs of his reserve air? (2-3x). And while you may have to focus to hear the piano (once you realize it's not hard) it's practically a piano solo. Watch it once more for yourselves and I bet you'll see/ hear what I mean. Early Queen vs mid to late Queen.... yes Freddie seemed to have a softer approach or style. To me it seems like he got angry or rough or needed to be tougher in his sound later like he had something to prove. Although don't get me wrong there is Stone Cold Crazy that Freddie wrote before Queen. Wowza! And of course Liar!
Don't forget Death on Two Legs!!! I'm going to agree and disagree about the piano.. One thing I think I have noticed in almost all Queen songs is that all 4 of them are doing their things and playing throughout, but each has an isolated segment. I believe the reason the piano is hard to hear at times is simply because they wanted you to hear drums, bass, or guitar. Almost every song has a guitar solo. Almost every song has a drum solo. Bass solo. Piano solo. Backing vocals. But more times than not, they aren't really solos as much as they make certain parts louder so you hear the dominant instrument or vocals... but it wouldn't sound as good without that faint hint of the background playing along with the 'solo.'
@kenanderson2002 good commentary. for this performance, I do hear Brian's guitar strongly aligned with the piano strokes and tones. it's like he elevates the piano playing into the air. I expressed it as a piano solo because there are essentially no words sung during the majority of it, unlike other songs, as well as its length. 😉
This is definitely a "thumbs up to the sky" for me. I've heard this more times than I care to admit and I'm always amazed it's live. I think this would be hard to pull off in a studio. The instrumental section is just unreal. The studio version has much less action.
Yay! This was so much fun to watch because of your unrestricted admiration of Freddie's talent! It was obvious from just watching your expressions when he hit those long high notes.
Early Queen is just 🤯 .. Queen 2 is my personal favourite choice as their best album .. Ogre battle and March of the black queen both need a reaction 👌
Great choice. It is considered progressive rock. It is quite different from the studio; it is this live performance that is a fan favourite. If you listen again and focus on the drums, although subtle, is very well done, locked into Freddie’s vocal and instrumental lead; impeccable timing, not as easy live as it may appear👍
Here are some more songs You need to react to: Innuendo Show must go on The prophet song In my defense (Freddie solo song) Love of my life (live in Wembley)
Wow yes a Queen song what a brilliant one too Roger’s beautiful drum playing John’s brilliant bass Brian’s singing guitar & Freddie’s singing & piano playing what more could you want love it studio versions are different again x early Queen is amazing all sorts of genres as they were experimenting you should react to more early Queen as they were a lot different Queen II is said to be their heaviest album x March of the Black Queen next then?
Written by and about Dr Brian May so yes it's different, they all wrote the songs separately, as a pair or all four, don't forget Freddie had the job of making every song sound as it was written and the message behind it, in Brian case it was someone who he saw from a distance and didn't act on his feelings, it's not Freddie and Queen, it's just Queen with four singers and writers all telling their stories
Having grown up listening to the studio version, whenever I hear this I'm always waiting for the fantastic harmonies to come in, that are on the album. But this is a great live version, that piano-guitar duet section as well as Freddie's vocals of course. For the early Queen material try out 'Liar' (studio version, there's an official video), 'March of the Black Queen', 'Son and Daughter', 'Ogre Battle', 'Brighton Rock' (studio version first, and the live version off of 'Live Killers' for the extended 3-point guitar solo). Enjoy, Queen never stops giving!
This was from my favorite Queen Concert. Live from the Hammersmith Odeon aka the Christmas Concert. You should check out the official release called Live At The Odeon. Great show. Queen was working on all 4 cylinders that night.
The Album version is full of great harmony but a great performance! “March of the Black Queen”, studio version makes Bohemian Rhapsody sound like a cakewalked! Please do it some day!
I was wondering when you would do Queen again. Thanks! I love, love, love this performance. Brian May has written some of my favourite songs. I only wish they would have put the camera on Brian more when he was doing some of his epic guitar work. Listen again--there is more drumming going on by Roger than you were saying. I can't imagine there are many bands able to pull off this song in concert. I think it was Robert Plant that said a lot of bands want to cover a Queen song and then realize how hard (or impossible) it is to do. Queen = 4 talented musicians and 4 talented songwriters. Check out "Liar" from the Rainbow (Live). Thanks again.
Thanks, kids.. this is a Brian May song.. and what I really love is the interplay between Fred's Keys & Brian's guitar... and oh, wait a sec.. what about those drums? um.. I guess that bass is also in there somewhere .. just sayin' .. this is a "group" like no other.. I really appreciate your listening.. gives old me a chance to hear others' opinions.. carry on, please!
Yep!! I always get a Tolkien vibe from this performance! 🌙🌟⭐️💫✨☀️ Hauntingly & mystically beautiful! The studio version is amazing, too! 🫧🫧 Brian’s lyrics? OMG! “So sad it ends .. As it began” …. Love is lost 🥺🍃🌸
This is Queen totally channelling Led Zeppelin - it has very a Stairway to Heaven vibes about it. Its brilliant. Probably my favourite ever Queen song. Absolutely stunning.
One of my fav songs and performances!! Thanks for the reaction, you expressed your honest opinion and I respect that. Freddie is my favourite singer too, nobody can top him ❤️ If you prefer their most well known songs, you could check out The show must go on, Don't stop me now, Killer Queen, Another one bites the dust, Under pressure with David Bowie, I want it all 😁😊
Brian said he’d never seen anyone play the piano like Freddie. Notice how he strikes the keys and lays his hands over the edge of the piano and crossing hands- and he only had a few lessons as a schoolboy
Queen and Queen II are both based in fantasy. Great King Rat, My Fairy King, White Queen, March of the Black Queen, most of the songs from the first 2 albums NO ONE but Queen fans have ever heard them BUT they are just great. All the songs were written in EARLY 70's and the time were a changin.
If you want to listen to some more Queen songs that don't sound anything like what you've reacted to before: Stone Cold Crazy, '39 (with Brian May on main vocals), Seaside Rendezvous (which has a great "instrumental" bridge), All God's People, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Good Company (another May-fronted song), Love of My Life, I'm Going Slightly Mad. A good example of a Roger Taylor fronted song would be I'm In Love With My Car. Tip of the iceberg, of course. But hey, this is Queen we're talking about. ;)
Lol we Queen fans can be a tad enthusiastic. The original studio cut didn’t have piano. It wasn’t added until the “BBC sessions”, and when played live. That’s what I’ve read, anyway.
Don't know why I'm only now finding you guys. I love your Queen reactions! Awesome! Why have you not done more? So many great ones! Please try "Now I'm Here" live at Wembley! Roger blows it out!
You need to react to more queens live performances. They're live performances are the best. Live aid 1985, and anything at Wembley 1986 live concerts are great. "Another one bites the dust ", "Under pressure. Just a few......
This live version elevates the song to unbelievable heights. Freddie’s vocals and piano, Brian’s echoey guitar, John and Roger holding down the rhythm. Just perfect.
Queen is the only band in the world where every member has written at least 3 number ones.
The whole band is in the Songwriter's Hall of Fame.
What bout beatles

It’s ok to fawn over Freddie…we all do it!! He doesn’t get enough credit for being an awesome pianist. I forgot how great this song truly is.
Brian's Solo isn't to shabby
And he thought of himself as mediocre at best on the piano. 😳
@@allensaunders449 I wish the camera was on him at that point!
He is not amazing as a pianist honestly. He is good.
Freddie the best voice 👋👋👋👋👋❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
My favorite live Queen performance ever. I have dreams of being alive and around to see this show.
Dr. Brian May wrote this song when he was still a student at Imperial College, He was facsinated by one of his classmate but he's too shy to approach her. Dr. Bri spent 3 years w/o daring to speak to her, he finally pays tribute to her through this song.!

Thanks !!!! Someone mentioned previously and I Second " THE SHOW MUST GO ON " 😁
Nobody will ever compare to or unthrone Freddie as the all time greatest vocalist. ❤
The music of the piano and the guitar are very haunting! Love it! ❤
Queen II is my favorite Queen album; White Side and Black Side. All the songs just flow together so well.
Agree! 👍
Yup
*_...Funny How Love, is Every Song in Every Key..._*

I would have been too young to go to this concert. I would have loved watching them play live especially John Deacon
I really love this song...did not think i would..discovered it recently...beautiful...unusual..
The piano guitar duel is incredible as of course Freddie’s vocals.
Such undeniable talent that left us far too soon. Quite a beautiful song. Great reaction.
Spread your wings and fly -Queen a must!
You're right. Queen fans are passionate, and the more you see of them, the more passionate you will become also. You guys haven't been disappointed yet.
As a lifelong Queen fan, this is my favourite piano/guitar duet, EVER.
Freddies mesmerizing piano skills and incredible vocals and Brian's guitar? Oh yes, I'm in.
The studio version was brilliant. All of Queen 2 is awesome.
This is probably my favorite early Queen song. The instrumental is fabulous.
This song is hauntingly beautiful and a hidden gem here I have no words for. As always, great reaction guys!🫶 Talk about having passion, oh Freddie had it in every pocket! One rarely hears a Guitar sing to a piano so beautifully.❤👑🌈

Queen - White Queen (As It Began) (Live at The Rainbow 1974) is the version you SHOULD have went for.
Early Queen is just 🤯 ..
Queen 2 is my personal favourite choice as their best album ..

YEP 👍
Queen I and II !!
They sound so much bigger than a four-piece!
thats why they were one of the best acts ever
Great guys!"We will rock you fast version"...live at the bowl...this version kicks ass
Hauntingly & mystically beautiful! The studio version is amazing, too! 🫧🫧
Brian’s lyrics?
Wow 😳😳 Freddie's piano duet with Brian beautiful guitar playing just so orgasmic and so much chemistry,so fulfilling.
Incredible version and performance from in my opinion their best album - metal wise any how
Queen live. There are very few bands better. You guys rock. Appreciate all you do.
Freddie got a lot of praise for his vocals, but not as much for his piano playing and songwriting.(which were just as good)
Queen and Queen II are both based in fantasy.
It was criminal that the camera didnt show Brian kill that solo
Don't know why I'm only now finding you guys. I love your Queen reactions! Awesome! Why have you not done more? So many great ones! Please try "Now I'm Here" live at Wembley! Roger blows it out!
For pure early rock Queen, check out their incredible performance of "Liar," 1974, live at The Rainbow. John Deacon on the bass was amazing.
Well now you have to do "The March of The Black Queen" . Why? Just because.
True! 😀🎸 Studio version though...
@@LeroyBrown84 For sure!
You need to react to more queens live performances. They're live performances are the best.
Live aid 1985, and anything at Wembley 1986 live concerts are great. "Another one bites the dust ", "Under pressure. Just a few......
Greatness 😊
Thank you for your honest opinion. I love this song. So you're going to have to do BLACK QUEEN. Just saying.
You should check out '39 the official studio version, Brian wrote this one and he sings it
