  • This number is from Lena's 1981 TV series and without a doubt Lena's greatest performance ! This is so brilliant , emotionally moving and Lena gives herself completely to this performance! This is the greatest performance by any one artist ever filmed , no one could ever come close to Lena's brilliance!

You can tell that she's not only performing this song, she feels every word & you can see it in her eyes. Especially at the end where she is still there in that world until the applause snaps her out of it. Such a tragic story of a beautiful & talented woman who was taken far too soon because of the pressure.

Zavaroni would have been one of the true greats without her demons. This is worthy of Garland, Streisand, Franklin,or Bassey. This is an epic performance. There is no recording of this, it is only available on UA-cam. In 1981 she was 18.

This girl was streets ahead of Shirley Bassey. She had a versatility and technical ability that went way beyond her years.

Gives me goosebumps. Her talent was so very extraordinary but instead of thrusting her into the limelight with all it’s pressures, maybe she’d have been happier on the tiny, remote Scottish island she called home.

An amazing vocalist....who puts so much emotion into a song and can sing pitch perfect...you can hear and understand every word......and where are the required ear pieces that today's artists can't sing without ...even though i lived through her era i never realised what an amazing singer she was......but now i do !!!!

Lena was a wonderful talent with such a superb voice. Watching this gave me goosebumps. Her voice control, pitch and interpretation of this song is amazing. Her life was so tragic.. forced to diet from a young age as a child, relentlessly over worked and exploited by a pushy showbiz agent throughout her career, Lena was an overnight child star whose gentle soul couldnt cope with the immense fame. She was one of the most talented entertainers in the UK and her early death was just heartbreaking.

I interviewed Lena (for radio) at the Playhouse Theatre in Edinburgh back in 1980. I got the impression that she was bit of a lost soul. At the time I felt she needed a big hug, and to be told that she was loved.
    Such an exceptional talent.
    R.I.P. Lena. You're missed.

Fascinating to those who don't sing.
However there often has to be a need for a singer to sing a song and I think the AOR (artist and repertoire person) knew exactly what they were doing. She really taps into the psychology and intent of the song (remember we are watching someone in their teens, you ask where is that intuitive knowingness coming from...) Neil Sadaka wrote from a different era though we all see the signs displaying themselves right now. A cry for help these days is never heard, just one less mouth to feed cynically. Let this song not be a song of hopelessness but a chance to stop "Going Nowhere!. I really really miss her........, " Very Deeply ".

It's such a sad and troubling story about Lena. Nowadays I don't think it would be allowed to take such a young little girl out of her home environment. She wasn't allowed to be a child. 💔💔💔💔💔

Lena Zavaroni was singing about her own struggles in her life, in this song 🎵 & you felt that was coming, through. Very dramatic like Shirley Bassey she not only sang but she was dramatic alongside it, a great tragedy like Janis Joplin, & Amy Winehouse, they left us too soon.

Sadly people's nearest and dearest often are completely unable to save their loved ones whether it's from drugs alcohol or mental illnesses like eating disorders, if families could save them there would be very few drug addicts and alcoholics and mental health wards would be almost empty.
