- Lena Zavaroni is brilliant in this performance from her 1981 TV Series . Lena sing with such emotion and looks so beautiful! She makes every song her own and this is one of her great ballads and the 'Key' change at the end is amazing !

what amazes me about her is not only her phenomenal voice, which goes without saying, but the raw emotion and passion with which she was able to put across a performance at such a young age. She was, what, 17 here? Lena was the kind of talent that comes along once in a generation. Only Shirley Bassey comes to mind as someone who could rival her. We can only wonder at the heights she would have attained, had she been on this planet for longer.

Gosh this makes me cry! She was such an old soul and such a talent. She was dealt such an unlucky deck of cards with her Illness. Great that we can still enjoy her voice.
She looks well in that picture. I think the British people really wanted her to succeed with her demons because she really was exceptional. She could hold her own with Streisand, Garland and Franklin. Did she realise how good she was?
Lena was usually shy after her performances but she looks unusually proud after this one! She knew it was a hell of a belter and that she slayed those vocals for days! Bravo and encore!

Hadn't realised she'd passed until I read an article about her and Bonnie Langford who she did a show with back in the early 1980 s , remember her in "opportunity knocks " with Hughie Green , what a powerful voice she had , a talent that should be nurtured gently I think 🤔

I live in Australia and was not even aware of her until I read a quote by Bonnie Langford about 4 weeks ago in which she basically said that people talk about the tragedy but in essence she was all about her singing and what a wonderful songer she was. So
I looked Lena up on UA-cam . What an amazing voice and passion in each song. You know she really feels what she is singing. I then read her story and cried as I got to the end.
Lena is definitely on my play list now.

Please know that when you comment "She looked beautiful", this is what she fought and hated and was terrified of. It literally scares people to death, this anorexia.. Focusing on her looks the looks the looks, was what killed her. I can speak, I've had anorexia my whole life and will never be free of it. ALL comments on her physique, she's beautiful, great, stunning- only refocus the agony. What if tomorrow that person isn't stunning, beautiful etc? The pressure. Please don't comment on the appearance. Say something about how smart they look, how emotional the song was, how glad you are to see them, how much you were looking forward to this, Etc. Looking a certain way - it's how the music industry kills women. Karen Carpenter too. Sensitive, the greatest singers ever.
