SUPERCHARGING a Toyota GT86 Fixes the Power Problem

  • I'm certainly not alone in my thoughts that stock GT86's don't have enough power. Toyota and Subaru finally listened with the new model, but the old 2.0L barely had the power of 4 harnessed children, being left behind by the similar S2000 and ND MX5.
    This one however, is vastly improved thanks to an HKS centrifugal supercharger.

    I kinda wish lexus had done a turbo version of the 86. It would be a good way to justify the price hike for the power

    Great video I owned one from new when they were first bought out and the power wasn't impressive, I was always curious how it would be with forced induction. I test drove a new GR86 the other week and the new displacement solves the problem, it's a real gem.

    Another great video mate 🙂 thanks, I rented an auto 86 on a trip to Auckland once, the auto was actually decent for a torque converter, the steering was amazing and way better than cars price point would suggest but you are so right… it needed more power!

    I really like the old 86.
    I love the new 86 even more but I'm really hanging out for the G16E-GTS powered 86 that Toyota is currently rumoured to be developing.

    Okay I have a couple of questions
    A. call me a idiotic car enthusiast but an automatic? Seriously? Who would Supercharge an automatic Toyota 86
    B. I would love to do this to an 86 if I got one but I would be scared with reliabilty.
    C. This is such a cool car keep up the great videos!

    Is it worth getting a 86/brz and supercharging it like this one or would you be better off spending a little more and getting a 370z?

    • @ThomasWitham
      @ThomasWitham Рік тому

      Having lived with both, the 86 is much more of an all round package, and to live with on a day to day basis it’s so much easier. Driving wise the 86 is much more of a go kart to just throw around. I’ve only owned that one for 5000km so i’m yet to really have any long term ownership experience, but it’ll be interesting to see how reliability compares. Over here that was a lot more than a 370z would cost lmao

    • @KiwiCarLife
      @KiwiCarLife  Рік тому +2

      Personally, while this is cool, it would just cost too much to make reliable. And would still get walked by a stock 370z. It's up to you

  • @Brodie_34
    @Brodie_34 Рік тому

    I guess the reason as to why the gt86 got a underpowered engine was because Toyota knew that this car would be popular in the aftermarket scene, in terms of power mods.

    • @KiwiCarLife
      @KiwiCarLife  Рік тому

      Yeah that's true, or possibly because they didn't want to make it faster than the WRX or STi
