Very well said mam... I also do have my rabbits... And got their videos.. Lately my doe die and her 4 kits have to survive alone of course with the help of me... Keep it up... God bless... Already parked here
Always love your videos! Great information to pass along, you always do your research and practice what you teach :)
Aw, thank you so much! I really appreciate it. 💛
What is the breed of them??
Great info👍🏻 I have some pet rabbits but haven’t gotten into meat rabbits yet. Love the video❤️
Love your videos! Out of curiosity, do you have any rabbits that you breed with thinner fur on their hocks? I didn’t know my main meat pair had that predisposition for the thinner fur/sore hocks as they look fine but their first litter clearly has that problem and they are not out of the nest box yet. I assume keeping the best furred one might be the best idea and not line breeding back to either parent, but I am not quite sure.
I don't think I've come across that. But I think with you having some experience here, this is what I'd look at. Are they big, good producers? Do they have good maternal instincts? If so it may be worth it to cater to them a little. Give them some extra resting mats/tiles and check their hocks more often. Now if there is another fault, slow growth, small litters, then I'd say yeah, probably avoid that breeding. But of course it's up to you if it's worth the risk and extra work. 😊
I love your video's!! and so much of this is really awesome! yeah I found out I have 2 huge meat rabbits that were supposed to be female's and only one was female..lol
Yep! We've been pretty lucky with that so far but we did buy two huge males who ended up being sterile due to injuries that I didn't know to look for.
@@Harrowfarms What kind of injuries did your bucks have? Was it from fly larvae?
It wasn’t. It was actually that the skin around their testicles was elongated and had been for some time so they had stepped on it, dragged it on the ground, there was urine and manure and big scabs all over them. It was very sad. We attempted to fix one of them with a laundry list of remedies but eventually we just euthanized them both.
You need to change your resolution
Is there any way to tell a meat rabbit from a "pet" rabbit? The only rabbits I can find are at a livestock auction and I dont know anything about the different breeds. They also dont tell you what breed they are at the auction.
There are colors and physical characteristics associated with different meat breeds. Anything "big" can be a meat rabbit though. I would be very careful buying from an auction though. It's very easy to end up with sick animals.
@@Harrowfarms Thank you, I guess I need to research the colors and characteristics of the meat breeds, unless you want to do a video about it. :)
Oh gosh, I don't think I'm qualified enough for that video, at least not yet. There are some wonderful Facebook groups for meat rabbits and I'm sure the crowds can point you in the right direction. 😊
OMG how much are your nesting boxes?
We've been selling them $13 for the regular 9x16 and $18 for the 12x20.
Are you still selling boxes and do you ship?
We haven’t made any in quite a while. Thought it probably would be a good idea to make a few more now that it’s breeding season again. But unfortunately no, I haven’t looked into shipping them. Check out tractor supply. If they don’t have them in store they can have them shipped for you. 😊
Too close to the camera ..
Didn't teach anything on what traits to look for in a rabbit, other than color and who the parents were. How about checking the ears, eyes, backbone, paws, genitals? This should be titled something like 'sending rabbits to my sister'.
