Hey ya'll, l'm Sam, welcome to Harrow Farms.
I am a lover of all things home: making, schooling, and steading. Home is my three headed ministry and I want to share it with you.
As small scale farmers we integrate regenerative agriculture practices on our two-acres. As a family we homeschool, live intentionally, and cook from scratch. As believers in Jesus we invest in our community and share our testimony.
Here on the farm we believe in Yahweh, raise our babies, grow our food, steward our wisdom, and cultivate freedom.
As we build a longer table we invite you to pull up a seat. Join us in the journey to becoming producers of food, community, and a life we find delight in.

Escaping the Echo Chamber | My thoughts lately
Jess from Roots and Refuge recently mentioned how she is intentional about not living in an echo chamber (aka surrounded by people who think the same as her) and it spurred a thought process for me to chew on and mull over.

Getting The Rabbits Ready For Summer (and why your breeding stock matters)
Really interested in like the top 5-10 plants to plant for a rabbit garden.... like my yard has alot of clover and dandelions already...but like a garden for their food..
do you have to have a big family to have milk cow to use up all of that milk what type of cow you have
We are a family of five. We use maybe 5 gallons a week between making butter, yogurt, ice cream, and drinking whole milk. I haven’t ventured into making hard cheese yet, but it’s on my list. The rest of the milk we are licensed in GA to sell for pet consumption. If I wasn’t doing that I would be feeding it to my chickens and pigs to reduce their feed costs. Maggie is a midsized miniature Jersey and producing about 4 gallons per day during peak lactation.
Wow this is so cool to see your farm from a few years ago 🥰 what cut chickens 🐓 you are so sweet 😊 thanks for sharing, 🙏🏼
🙏🏼 Blessings to you & family
Loved this video friend ❤ I feel this so much just in different ways
Thank you for this video. I am working through my journey with religion and spirituality. I appreciate perspectives like this.
So true! Joining a church small group did wonders for me in this arena, too. Seeing YHWH love and guide believers on completely different (idealistic) paths than mine was very eye-opening. Thank you for sharing!
Hey mama ❤ found you on the WAPF real milk finder and I'm excited because I think we are really close to eachother. We just moved down here last year to our farm in Worth County. Cheers
Hey there! Depending on where you are in Worth County, you’re about an hour from me. That’s pretty dang close!
Do you have IG? It's the only other social media I use lol trying to see a way we could chat
@wocoranch absolutely!! My handle is the same there. @harrowfarms
What is the breed of them??
What if we let her baby kid get milk from her. How many times can we milk her. Our baby goat is 1 week old.
Hey there! Since she only has one kid, I would start milking once a day while the kid is still on her to make sure her udder remains even. With a single kid they can favor one and make her lopsided. Once baby reaches two weeks old you can start separating over night and milking in the morning. Then once the kid is old enough to wean (8 weeks), separate full time and start milking twice a day.
Another thing about Dynamint udder cream - it's great on your hands too. I keep a bottle by the milk stand for the goats and a bottle in the house for me.
Nice
Oreo ice cream my favorite!
Good information.. I am not sure I can use the cream for udder since my have milking kids on them..
I actually no longer suggest the dynamint for upping production. Some does it seems to help their production, others it hurts it. I’ve had one doe who did great with it. Had another doe that it drastically reduced her production. I personally wouldn’t be comfortable using it with nursing kids. Peppermint oil can cause eye and lung irritation, so I wouldn’t want to risk it. It’s still a great product and I do keep it on hand for my dairy cow. It’s particularly helpful for clogged ducts and mastitis. So definitely a good one to keep around, just be cautious if you’re already struggling with a low producing animal.
Ma sai uccidere un coniglio? Come fai?
I use what’s called the choke chain method. It’s a form of cervical dislocation. That is the most humane way I have found to dispatch. It offers the fastest, most effective and painless end. There are a few videos here on UA-cam that showcase how to do it. Here’s one: ua-cam.com/video/GgpXlG6j4Us/v-deo.htmlsi=TpCWvXTPtWfYpOb5
Mi fai un vedere come fai tu?
Mai provato con il manico della scopa sotto le orecchie e con i piedi schiacciare e tirare verso di te?
We have done that method before, but I found that it caused more bruising than I’m comfortable with. Getting them into position also wasn’t as stress free of an experience as I’d like for them to have. By using the choke chain I can hold them and help them feel secure up until the moment of dispatch. My goal is to provide the fastest, least stressful, most humane end possible. In my experience, the choke chain checks all those boxes for me.
@@Harrowfarms hello,ma sei veramente tu che riesci uccidere il coniglio anche con il manico della scopa?
Great vid!!!😊❤
It looks good! Can’t wait to see everything thriving and full.
Thank youuu. Me too. 💛
Loved seeing your milk routine!
I’ve always been told that border collies are breed that is born with OCD!😂
That’s our male for sure! Smart as a whip and great on livestock, but has to run the same path over and over and over again. 😅
I need a sprinkler like this
Great info :)
@Harrow Farms have you tried or thought about sweet potato vines? I decided to try growing sweet potatoes a couple years ago and while that didn’t go as well as I had hoped we did almost accidentally start a permanent sweet potato bed. Since we didn’t dig every scrap of sweet potato they came back in two places as volunteers and we encouraged them. Once they come up in the spring the vines will crawl and spread if allowed. Anyway, it’s worth a try! I have since read how in some third world countries sweet potato vines are a precious commodity for feeding rabbits.
I haven’t yet but that’s one that I plan to grow for them! Some others are kale, zucchini, sunflower, and then I’ve heard I think it’s sunchokes? Someone said those are great for them and higher in protein. Sunn Hemp is a phenomenal option which I may try out next year, the seed is just kind of pricey and since I’m not in a tropical zone it will die off in winter and won’t be a perennial. 😅
Thanku for doing rabbit video...one of my liters just opened their eyes 😊
That’s so exciting! I love the 2-4 week stage. 🥹
@@Harrowfarms yeah it's super exciting to me when they open there eyes
I didn’t think folks ate rabbit any longer. It’s not for me though!
Oh no, there’s plenty of us out here raising them still. Tastes much better than wild rabbit, almost indistinguishable from chicken.
Oh yeah rabbits taste good😋 and they are less fattening then chikens but taste similar
@@Gracelynnsshorts1234 It’s psychological for me!😬
Nice video! Are you making yogurt and cheese with your milk?
Yes! Lots of butter, yogurt, ice cream, and soft cheeses. I haven’t ventured into hard cheese yet but I’d like to. It’s just a little intimidating. 😅
I'm sorry, I don't know if I understood correctly. So your family drinks raw milk? I really am not trying to preach here or anything, but the idea is gut wrenching to me to the point it has been boggling me in your latest videos.
Yes! We absolutely drink it raw. I highly recommend reading up on the history of pasteurization and homogenization. By maintaining safe milk handling practices, I significantly reduce the chances of contamination. In my opinion, the benefits out weigh the risks. I have control over every step of the process. What the cows eat, how they are treated, the milk handling process, it’s my hands doing all the work. I trust myself and Yahweh’s design. I know raw milk isn’t for everyone, but it’s absolutely for me. Here is a great article talking about the nutritional differences in raw milk, which is a big part of why we drink it. www.realmilk.com/vitamins-and-minerals/ If you have any specific reasons that it makes you nervous, I’d be happy to talk through them with you, if you’re interested. But no pressure. 😌
There’s nothing wrong with drinking raw milk as long as everything is clean and sanitized.
So happy to see you back! Excited to see what new wisdoms you have to share 🙌
Aw, thank you! I’m excited to be back.
Do this as soon as the calf is born
Uh oh, do what as soon as the calf is born?
@@Harrowfarms put iodine on there belly button sorry was napping with my little one
@@Harrowfarms I did have the whole thing in the comments earlier but UA-cam must not have posted it putting iodine on there umbilical as soon as they are born will help prevent leg problems like your other calf has trying to help
Interesting. I don’t think that would have solved this guys particular issues (his feet are HUGE and have been since birth). But I’ll definitely start doing that.
@@Harrowfarms I understand I pray her next baby is sound in there feet and legs ❤️
Loved the video ❤...cant wait for rabbit videos, My doe should be having babies in a few days
Oooo exciting! What breed do you keep?
@@Harrowfarms I have a breed of mini rex,mini rex×rex,California's and a new Zealand
Thank you for this video! I have 2 acres and have a jersey milk cow. So happy to see you back on UA-cam!!!!!
Oh hey, twinsies!! 😂
I had a question. How long do must people milk a single dairy cow? Like each cycle and how many cycles or years before “retirement”?
Oooo that’s a good question. The standard is to breed every year. Most will rebreed at 60 or so days fresh and milk until 2 months before calving. So about 10-12 months of lactation. For us, since we raise a bull to breed her every year, we milk quite a bit longer. She’ll be bred at around 10-12 months fresh, milked another 8 months, then dried off in time for her to calve.
I love seeing you back! Your channel meant so much to me when I started watching it a few years ago
And somehow I didn't realize you raised BC pups! I have debated on getting a working aussie pup OR bc pup for my farm.
Oh man, working dogs are SO helpful. We currently have a pair of BCs. Morgan (male) is my main worker, he does most of the herding. Moving animals here and there and helping me put back escapees. Thea (female) is my gate guard and watches my back. She’s a more well rounded dog who triples as a companion, a sports (disc) dog, and worker. The puppies they have produced have gone on to be phenomenal working dogs, one is in training for sports and is also working towards being a medical alert service dog.
Maggie looks great! And your grass is so green 😍
She’s about to start looking even better. She’s in the middle of shedding her winter coat so she’s a little dull. Here in the next month or so she’s going to be so shiny and sleek. 🤩
I know you can’t sell your milk for human consumption but do you let your family drink the unpasteurized milk? I see no problem with that because you know your collection procedure is clean and your cow is healthy. I don’t remember you breeding border collies when you were previously on YT. Is that something relatively new? I didn’t see or hear any outside kennels. Hoping you and your family are doing well. Cheers, Doc ❤
Hey there! Yes, our family drinks the milk raw. As for the border collies, we don’t have a large kennel set up. Currently we just have two. We did have three for a while but she ended up not being a good fit for our program. We’ve produced one litter from our current pair and I am just blown away with these outs. All of them went to amazing working homes. Most of them are herding dogs, one is a sporting dog that’s also being trained as a service animal. Our breeders are also pets and have indoor crates.
Very nice Video..👍👍👍
Thank you! 😌
The kiddos and I loved your video!
Thanks Danielle!
Omg!!! Hey Sam! Love seeing you!
Heyyyyy long time no see. 🤪
Welcome back good to see you miss ducks are you bringing back to your homestead their meat are best
We had some trouble with or Muscovies when we switched over to cows. They like to swim in the water trough and actually had a few get trampled because they would just walk under the cows and pay no attention. So for now we don’t have any. We’ve talked about getting more, we’d just need to make a space for them. We’ll see what ends up happening. 😅
You are such a delight thank you for sharing your life I’ll be a full time watcher
That’s so kind of you to say! 💛
I didn’t recognize the new channel name. I thought to myself; did I subscribe to a channel called Harrow Farms? Clicked on the video to see what’s up. Well, now I know why I didn’t get it. Hi!! Thank you so much! And you’re very close, it’s Micah. 💛
Can you do more rabbit videos please 😊
Absolutely! Is there anything specific you’d like to know? ☺️
@Harrowfarms no not really 😊
Haha okay no worries. I’ve got a few ideas I think you’ll enjoy. 😌
