New to motorsport and have watched a lot of Throttle House, Straight Pipes, Chris Harris, Remove Before Racing... this is easily my favorite. I came here thanks to UA-cam suggestions and was surprised by the calm and collected style of the video. No shouting or any of that look at me. 'Just' a very good review and the love for cars shines through. Cheers!
Thanks man. I think as with time and experience, I’m getting more comfortable with the camera and settling in with what type of personality I want to be.
Very nicely done. Excellent video! I have had a GT3RS before. You’re right, this new GT4 is pretty well balance chassis. I know you have all the sources, could you tell me if I could change the HID headlight to the LED directional housing on this 2020 GT4? Cheers., keep up the great video 🦅🦅🇺🇸
At 3:44 with the way you dropped into the car, i was sort of expecting you to bump your head somewhere. I guess you survived but your back took the toll. Growing old sure has problems attached
For the past few months I’ve been getting used to sitting into big fat plump SUV so getting into a low sports car with bucket seats took a second to readjust 😄
@@DanWangFilms am sure you now see why SUVs sell now. They're 'easy' to live with and some of them 'challenge' sports cars. Am wondering how long you've taken away from your Lotus though
Well, this was 13 minutes of pure heaven. I've never been a huge fan of Porsche but the way you talk about it almost has me in love with it. The video is one of your best Dan, from the editing during the speed test to the cinematography of the opening and let's not forget the rain drops on the car at the end. Nothing's perfect but this has got to be as close as you can get 😉
Thanks for the kind words as always! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I feel like to me this was sort of a continuation or sequel if you will to the Lotus video I did a while ago. It’s been a while since I drove anything very track focused besides the ones in my garage, but it’s just one of those cars that check off all the boxes and if you think about what it can do, the price point doesn’t seem that absurd anymore (especially not as absurd as the M4CS).
I liked your clean and precise way of reviewing the car for the first 5 mins, but it was the very detailed acceleration information that really showed me you're doing something unique on this channel. Sub well deserved.
After deleting the GPF I hoped it would sound better than the last gen 981, but it doesn't... It sounds raspier in the high revs; doesn't have that banshee "scream" like the last gen does.
Beautiful video as always. You’re the best man. I went from a boxster s to a c7 stingray to a c7 z06. It’s actually hard for me to be interested in a boxster/cayman again. They just feel too tame and boring compared to the Z06. I love that wild beast and what it’s capable of. I’d love to see you drive a 911 gt3 and/or a regular carrera s and compare them to this cayman gt4
@TheEvilPadawan Thanks brother. That’s an interesting progression of cars. I agree, if I never had a Z06, I may be tempted with the GT4. Truth is, I was spoiled by that power/torque curve. Anyway, we should be seeing more Porsches on the channel now so I’ll try to get those in. GT3(RS hopefully) is on the bucket list.
Well done mate, exceptional video quality. You got a new subscriber! Oh, and as far as the GT4 goes, did you ever drive the manual 991.2 GT3? How does it compare?

no front, but a camaro or mustang would never come close to this when it comes to track performance, which this caris alle about. compare it to a M2 comp or TTRS
Phenomenal video! Great breakdown including accel stats and beautiful filming. Like you I'm an Exige owner and everything else under 150K feels pretty blunted, but this seems to hit most of the buttons so it's the next natural progression. I had a deposit in and was waiting for a build date when Covid hit. I am not buying this till I can do it a pickup from the factory, break-in driving over Swiss and Italian alps, and finish off with successive days on the Ring and Spa before sending her home. Your video just makes me savor the dream even more. Till then, flogging on the Exige continues and morale is way up the harder she's driven.
@@wearethetraffic Actually it's a really tough call between the Evora GT and the 718 GT4. I've driven the previous GT4 but yet to get in an Evora GT. I was doing the GT4 just to go Porsche after 6 years of Lotus ownership and to do the whole EU pickup experience. I would consider a Hethel pickup if they offered one. I suppose from there to the ring is just about enough time to break it in. I have some time to figure it out since Americans can't go anywhere for quite a while.
@@harrykwan734 Understandable... I have been considering leasing the Lotus as its decently priced and I know the owner of a Lotus dealership very well so pricing would be more favorable. @@wearethetraffic if lotus pricing is favorable through your friend you should have both. That would make a lovely garage! I think the evora has so much presence. @Harry Kwan Thanks! Sadly, there’s no replacement for the Exige nor do I think there will ever be. Wow another amazing video by this channel! Great to see the quality increase compared to last year. Car sounds amazing btw! The GT4 cayman is my attainable dream car.
Ive heard nothing but good things about this car.... I was looking at the 911 Carrera S this as about as expensive... Guess ill have to drive them both to decide.
Please, stop comparing a Porsche 718 GT4 with a shitty Corvette because of its price! Low tech cars like the Corvette have absolutely nothing, which can keep up with the driving precision of such a perfect Porsche! This is Porsche at its best: a smaller car with not the highest powered naturally aspirated engine, but with still enough power to make other "self-declared sports cars" with more horsepower look like shitty vehicles. The Corvette had a shitty transmission for the last five decades and it just can't keep up with the driving capabilities of a 718 GT4. The 718 GT4 is expensive, but it's a true drivers car with the best manul manual transmission you can get on this planet. This fantastic sports car is absolutely worth every Dollar of its price!

Best Porsche review without fanboyness. If I could have another Porsche, I would have this specific one. Also, we traded my lotus evora 410 for a carrera T. We still have the evora GT. But he wants me to drive it and all I could tell him is that this 1 car is the only thing that made me realize how much I miss my Mustang and the performance I got out of it. It's so slow that I think my Volvo can't keep up with it but not pass it. 😬

Love your review. Great video. You have a wonderfully warm, relaxed voice. Know that in Europe loud exhausts are on the way out: they’re no longer socially accepted and even on tracks there is now a 98dB limit.
Absolutely brilliant review. You said you had a hard time picking out any real flaws for this car so I have a question for you. What did you think about the insanely long gear ratios for this car? Were you okay with it? Did you wish they were shorter? I was hoping you would bring it up.
@LegendinThaMakin Thanks! So that was something that I thought about for a little while and I think I touched on it briefly in the review towards the driving portion. I felt that it was refreshing because it’s different than a lot of modern cars where they optimize the gearing for a certain performance test (i.e. most cars are geared to perform very well for the ¼ mile and then fall on it’s face afterwards). I also didn’t feel that 1-4 is too long but I also don’t enjoy banging gears every 2 milliseconds and I think based on the acceleration numbers, the longer gearing in manual cars certainly works because the car has a lot of top end pull because it’s still in 4th, all the way up to 145ish. My only complaint is really at highway speeds where you’d find yourself in RPMs that don’t make sense for fuel economy or make a lot of noise if you have an exhaust installed.
Despite all the great attributes about this GT4, many car critics complain about its unusual long gearing and the lack of raw emotion from the engine as compared to its predecessor.
Possible best driver's car of 2020?
