Wow...all of these books sound good (including the cookbook)! Thanks for listing them all in the shownotes. Today/this weekend, I've started 'Moby-Dick' (in the readalong with Chris), Dorothy Sayer's 'The Nine Tailors', and Paul Lynch's 'Prophet Song.' Just started all 3 today. (Prophet Song was on a 'lucky day 7-day checkout' shelf at my library, and I've read the first chapter and am hooked.)

P.S. My husband had a Maps and Cartography class in Sterling, and they got to study OLD maps (e.g. from the 1400/1500s). He loved Sterling (and Beinecke). I attended a John Irving event at the Harold Washington Library (early 2000s, for 'A Widow for One Year). It's quite an architectural marvel, and has such an imposing presence on State Street.

I read (listened) to The Frozen River last month-one of the best books I’ve read so far this year. I’m guessing it will be on my top ten list at the end of the year.😉

High praise, considering it's only March!

I love the mail/unboxing segment. That cookbook has been on my wish list for years. I just finished a book Emily recommended, Elizabeth Rush’s “The Quickening”-as good as she said.

I’m bummed I missed the local event for Ariel Lawhon. Right now, I’m reading & loving THE WIFE, THE MISTRESS, & THE MAID.

I am reading Carnegie Libraries Across America: A Public Legacy. By Theodore Jones. It was published in 1997. When I saw an online connection post enthusiastically about it, I was intrigued. I discovered that my childhood library was a Carnegie recipient...sadly it has been razed. The libary in the town next to me is a Carnegie and still standing and functioning as a library. I plan a visit there when I finish the book to look more carefully at the architecture. I am always looking at the books rather than the building, but now I will take more note. I will add American Libraries to my list!

That's so exciting, Barb! Although I'm sorry to hear your childhood library was razed. The story behind Carnegie's rollout of the library program and its spread is fascinating. This is Chris commenting -- I try to take photos when I get to stop at a new-to-me library and have a page listing all those posts on my blog (chriswolak.com/library-visits/). It is always heartwarming to come across an old Carnegie. So often, they have been repurposed because the architecture no longer fits the library's needs, but it is nice to see the building anyway.

As a retired midwife I started The Frozen River and stopped for several reasons. Will be interested to hear your thoughts. I did read the book it is based on.
Attended The Long Beach Literary Women's Festival yesterday. It was a great, great festival that has been gone on for over 40 years and always has great women authors and sold out attendance. It was wonderful as always. Great bio adventure. I read books by Ann Napolitano (Hello Beautiful) and Rebecca Makkai (Great Belivers and I Have Questions for You) in preparation. favorite speaker was Shelly Read (Go As a River). Next years's conference is April 5. All day, great fun and so many wonderful women authors and readers.

The Long Beach Literary Women's Festival sounds fantastic! I just checked out their website and appreciate that they share an archive of all the authors that have attended over the years, along with their books. It would make a good reading list -- www.literarywomen.org/archive.php
This is Chris and I'm curious to hear what Emily says about The Frozen River.

I teach personality psych. You might be interested to learn there is a known finding of the Self Other Knowledge Asymmetry. We are biased especially about things related to our self-esteem (like intelligence) and others tend to know that information better.
