Was at a con once, and Patrick Warburton (Kronk) said the best work experience he's ever had was recording all his lines in the studio with Eartha Kitt (Ymza).
I can absolutely imagine a lot of people might say the same about working with him, he's such a cool guy and so genuinely loves what he does, but Eartha Kitt was just on a whole other level. I don't think anyone will ever bring more to a role than she did for Yzma.
Fun fact: in the italian version of the movie, the dubbing becomes quite creative; for example, in the Yzma's description scene, instead of "scary beyond all reason", they describe her as "Dracula's grandmother, the ugly one".
In the latinamerican spanish dub, they describe her as " 'fea' con F de 'foca' ". That is *very* hard to translate because it's a very unique latinamerican expression, but could roughly translate as "she couldn't be uglier if she tried". I prefer to watch movies in sub, but I watched the dub when I was little and it's very different from the original, they took a lot of liberties that made the movie even funnier imho. For ex, when all the guards transformed into animals jump to one of the holes of the nose of that like idol's face in the front of the castle trying to catch Pacha and Kuzco (here it happens at 34:15), in the sub they say "come on men! nobody lives forever!", but in the dub they say something like "follow me! we're ugly now, anyways!".
"Uh-oh." "Don't tell me. We're about to go over a huge waterfall." "Yep." "Sharp rocks at the bottom?" "Most likely." "Bring it on." My favourite scene! :D
The only prior one implied to be pregnant but never shown is Ladt's owner. It is so werid that some people like Walt used to think it was gross and inappropriate, when nowadays every reactor coos at seeing Chicha is pregnant. We have evolved as a society.
We all did. In fact, I always gasp in unison with him. You can insult a man till the cows come home, but don’t and I repeat: DON’T EVER INSULT HIS SPINACH PUFFS!
32:26 I love how every single person that reacts to that one scene has the exact same reaction. When I first saw this as a kid I gasped in unison with the Kronks. You can insult a man till the cows come home, give out every negative adjective, how he looks or dresses, but don’t and I repeat: DON’T EVER INSULT HIS SPINACH PUFFS!
I also love how Cuzco's own hubris is what always screws him over in every situation. Things don't go right for him until he starts to learn how to treat others as equals. The movie is hilarious but also thought provoking. If you act like Cuzco, you might get everything you want, but in the end you have nothing because you alienate everybody. If you act like Pacha then you may not have everything, but you have the love of those close to you. A good lesson if ever there was one.

The emperor new groove is a masterpiece alongside treasure planet, altantis: the lost empire, toy story, mulan, Hercules, lilo and stitch, trazan, the princess and the frog, ratatouille, lion king, the list goes on and on❤❤❤❤❤❤
Fun fact: this movie had a completely different story when it was being planned. Originally it was going to be called the Kingdom of the Sun. Having more of a mystical element and be an actual musical. The original plot involved a shadow god being sealed away by a sun god. Yzma's purpose for killing Manco Capac(Kuzco's original name) was to release the shadow god in order to block out the sun and regain her beauty. Eartha Kitt was even supposed to has a Disney villain song. There's actually is a full version of the song called Snuff Out the Light you can find on UA-cam. Pacha was going to have a love interest instead of already being a family man. Manco was supposed to have one as well. Unfortunately the original story was never complete and remade to what is now known as the Emperor's New Groove. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the film, but knowing what we could've gotten compared to what we got feels like missed opportunity.
I didn’t know that! I love musicals but personally i’m so happy with what we got, it’s so different from many other dark vs light stories already told. Although Yzma’s song would’ve been epic.
I feel as though it's sugar coated by what might have been. When you really look at it, they were right. There was simply too many plot lines that didn't fit together very well.

I always loved how Kuzco was never phased by anything when he turned into a llama. Also the iconic waterfall scene lol I remember when Disney promoting the hell out of the movie with that scene. Still love it
10:38 Kuzco describes himself as the star of the movie, yet Kronk, Pacha and Izma shine in their own way. One of the reasons this movie is a masterpiece.
It’s mostly due to the fact that Kuzco’s character is just simply a self-centered, arrogant, selfish, spoiled brat that’s too focused on himself to see the cruelty of his selfishness and that the people at his command, while they obey him, don’t actually like him.
Can I just point out how incredible the chemistry between John Goodman and David Spade is? And let us not forget Kronk, played by the always amazing Patrick Warburton.
Fun fact yzma turning into a cat was a nod to the fact that Eartha Kitt the voice of yzma took over for Julie Newmar as Catwoman in the 1964 version of Batman
He also voiced Steve Barkin in Disney's Kim Possible, a detective named Cash Tankinson in The Batman, Flynn from the games and Netflix series of Skylanders, and much more.
Glad to see you enjoyed a personal favorite of mine, The Emperor's New Groove. For other good animated feature films from Disney in the early 2000s, you should also see Fantasia 2000 (though you may have to watch the original Fantasia from 1940 first), Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Lilo & Stitch, Treasure Planet, and Brother Bear.
That was fun! I love watching other adults enjoying kid's movies on both levels. This is one of those movies that doesn't take itself too seriously and throws all kinds of silly stuff at the audience. And it works so well.
This is still one of my favourite Disney movies, check out treasure planet too it's amazing, and for something a little different u should check out the Wallace and gromit movies they're awesome

Eartha Kitt loved voicing Yzma so much, she came back to voice her for every media she was featured in, including the entire two season spin off show
So fun and wholesome! Best part was the SHOCK you all had when she said "I've never liked your spinach puffs!" Hahaha
I noticed that everyone has that exact same reaction. I did, too. Kronk is just a loveable guy.
50 years before this movie, Eartha Kitt who played Yzma recorded a song called "I want to be Evil". Wishes do come true! :)
Also, she did "Santa Baby".
And the OG Catwoman on the Adam West Batman.
@@d112cons actually she was the 3rd Catwoman after Julie Newmar & Lee Meriwether.

It's fitting, that Yzma turns into a cat, as Eartha Kitt, played Catwoman, in the old Batman TV show.

The road to el dorado is also super underrated. Im still highly attracted to Chel from it as well lmao
The 2000s may not have been the best decade for Disney, but it was a fun time.
I’m surprised this movie isn’t talked about more because it’s the first Disney movie that focuses on a prince(in this case emperor)and not a princess.
It's the first movie about the villain
"Oh, this is so mean! But he will be a llama. Deserved." 😝
