    Hi Nick I have a XBR 65Z9D with a 8-blink power on problem then nothing, it will not display anything. I have replaced the main and power board, the original problem was half white screen and half black. I know my connections and replacements of the items were also done correctly as I have worked on thousands of professional items. Where do I go from here, thanks Brian.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  Рік тому

      If the replacement mainboard is giving you 8 blinks, then you most likely received a none working mainboard. 8 blinks is indicative of a failed mainboard.
      Return it and get a new one.

      Turn the lights off in the room, and make it as dark as possible. Now turn on your TV. Do you get a glow from the screen? If yes then that means your LEDs are good and turning on. However, it also means you may have a bad screen. If no glow then your LEDs are not turning on although that doesn't mean they are bad, perhaps they aren't getting power or the turn-on command. If this is the case you may have a bad mainboard. Something you can do in that case is shining a flashlight onto the screen, do you see the image very faintly? If yes then that would mean your LEDS are most likely bad which for this set they are imbedded in the screen so it means buying a new TV. If not then I would suggest a new mainboard.
      Please keep in mind this is not a proper diagnostic, this is based on my own opinion what I think are the most likely reasons for the set to have gone bad and are purely speculation. If you would like for us to help you further with diagnostics, we do have a testing and diagnostic service where you can mail in some of your circuit boards which we can live test in our system in our shop at a $20 bench fee per board. Our contact info is in the video description if you have more questions.

    Do you have information or a video for 3 red blink code for the Sony XBR-65X900C? This model has a Power Supply Board APDP-330A1 & Sub Power Supply Board APDP-180A1

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  Рік тому

      Hello Jason.
      One of the reasons we haven't covered the 3 red blinks is because of how rare it is.
      According to the service manual, a 3 blink code is due to a faulty mainboard. While it is not common, I do believe we have actually serviced that fault by replacing the HDMI processor IC. It's the large IC chip next to the HDMI ports with 200 pins or so.
      If you want to send it in for repair, we can replace that chip.

    Hi Nick. The picture on my XBR-55X900F froze in the middle of a film (on Prime, not DVD) and when the unit would not respond to any command from the remote, I unplugged it (something I have found myself having to do with increased frequency in recent months). Usually this solves the problem. However, when I plugged it back in this time, nothing happened. I tried all the little quickfix/reset tips I could find online but nothing worked. Do I need to send you my main board or my power supply board? I’m thinking main board, right? Please let me know. Thanks for your guidance!

    So my Sony seems to get stuck in a loop, after many tweaks. Did a restore of my TV, then got rid of a lot of "bloat-ware", then moved a few apps to a usb drive. Then I rebooted and I wasn't sure why it was caught in a loop, then thought to remove the usb drive, then power back on then insert the usb and all was good. Any suggestions and/or heard of this? My apps are working on the usb. My main app on there is an iptv app. Is there a way to change the boot order? Maybe it checks the USB first and gets stuck? Any suggestions greatly appreciated! TIA!

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  2 роки тому

      Is there a way to change the boot order?
      If there is, I do not know how but it is also strange that it is getting caught up and has issues with the flash-drive plugged in, that should not be the case.
      A work around would be to keep your TV "offline" as in disconnected from the internet and using an amazon fire stick or a Roku device through one of your HDMI to access your smart apps moving forward. This should not affect the boot up and would allow you to always have your apps available. I don't have any boot up issues with my personal Sony TV at home, but I still use a firestick as I find it is much easier to use the firestick to navigate the smart options and since it is an android based device I can use the firestick remote to control the basic functions of TV.

    hey nick quick update on my sony xbr 55x 900f i did the forcw reset like you mentioned and now im getting sound. during the process i saw a white line going across the top im going to try it one more time. i might be interested in the board repair if i cant get the picture to come back

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  2 роки тому

      If you can't get the picture to come back, the last thing you could try is to force an update as well but I don't know that it will help.
      What you would need to do is go to the link below and download the file:
      www.sony.com/electronics/support/lcd-tvs-android-xf90xx_x90xxf-series/xbr-55x900f/software/00262031
      Once downloaded extract it to an empty flash drive. Then rename the file to upgrade_loader.pkg
      Then with the TV disconnected from power, plug in the flash drive and then plug-in power.
      Don't disconnect it from power, the update should take automatically and will be indicated with the white light at the bottom pulsing on and off. The update can take a full hour so be patient.
      For more details and troubleshooting on that, you can check out the other video below:
      ua-cam.com/video/3kYPjIHt8Lc/v-deo.html
      If you still can't get it though, then unfortunately yeah your next step would be to send it in for a repair at that point.

      Okay this is what worked for me, I tried holding down the power button and the down channel key on the tv And then plugging in my device, Several times It didn't work. So what I did was Hold the power button And the volume key And then plug my TV set in And it gave me is like a Halo circle With different colors.Then I unplugged my TV. I held the volume button And the power button then Turned my TV on and Waited till I saw the tv Cut on And cut off. The TV cycled a few times and it was fixed. You're going to have to try using the volume up or down key to see which one works,But holding the up-and-down channel key did nothing for my TV.I Hope that helps someone

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Jeremy,
      Yeah the 900F series also suffers from the same issues as the one in the video. What I recommend you try is force reset your TV by unplugging it from the wall.
      Then using the buttons on the back of the TV press and hold the power and volume down. Keep them pressed in as you plug the TV to power and keep those pressed for at least 15 seconds or until the green light comes on. Then you can release and this should force a full reset on the TV.
      If this does not work then your mainboard is probably defective in a way that a reset won't fix.
      You can either buy a new mainboard at that point, or if you can't find a good deal, we do offer a service to fix them which is linked below:

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  2 роки тому

      Hello Greg,
      Can you confirm you have paired the mainboard to the TV set? How much time did the update take? Did you have to go through the process twice?
      Was this module serviced with us?
      Often this can be due to the LVDS ribbons not being properly connected. I personally pair these myself to our test sets when customers send in their boards for repair. Trust me I have done this hundreds of times and I still have to reseat ribbons sometimes and experience the same thing you are right now.
      If this still doesn't work, alternatively if you were to disconnect both ribbons from the mainboard and boot up the set, if the T-con and panel are working, you would see the color pattern test. This would confirm the rest of the set is okay and the mainboard is the issue. Now Mainboard being the issue doesn't necessarily mean the mainboard is defective, it could simply mean it didn't pair properly and may need the process to be done again.
      If you have any follow-up questions, I suggest you contact us via support@nickstvs.com directly, if you respond via youtube, we won't see the comment unless you post a new comment instead of a reply. For some reason, we don't get any notifications when a reply is posted, only for new comments.

    Nick, I have a 55X900C. I performed a factory reset from the options menu. It went off after confirming I wanted to erase all my information and apps. I waited 24 hours as I know my tv is older and takes time. When I try to turn it on, it does nothing. So I followed the instructions from Sony and unplugged for 2 minutes and then plugged it back in. I get the Sony logo and briefly and then the screen goes blank. It does not turn on using either the remote or the power button on the back. No other devices are plugged into the tv. I assume it's a main board failure but wanted to ask your opinion first.

I spent hours with Sony tech support, but they concluded it's a motherboard failure. Should I just go ahead replacing the board or is there anything I could do to fix the board or troubleshoot anything further to isolate the root cause? Thanks for your feedback!

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  3 роки тому

      Hello,
      In terms of further troubleshooting, that is not necessary, you most definitely have a mainboard failure. In terms of repairs, as long as you renamed the file on the flash drive, and it is still not pairing/updating, then you have essentially done everything you can on your end to fix the module. Anything else will require much more in-depth solder working and chip replacements.
      At this point, a replacement or repair of your original board through our mail-in repair service are your only 2 options.
      If you aren't able to find a good functional board at a decent price, you can always send us yours for repair.

      I had a similar problem like you. Make sure your USB stick is formatted as FAT 32. Some TVs cannot read certain USB sticks, try to copy the firmware update (1,5GB) onto a different stick formatted in FAT32. Insert the stick to the TV and hold the Power and Volume down button simutaneously. You should get a green light after 10 to 20 seconds, when you get a green light release the buttons and wait a bit. Firmware should install all by itself, do not disconnect the power cable. Good luck

      @@TheravadaMusic that's exactly what I did but the TV failed to recognize the USB. This is a known Sony firmware upgrade issue that causes motherboard damage and Sony knows about it and that's why they extended the 1yr warranty to March 31st, 2021 for the model ending with "C". Unfortunately, my issue happend in April, and they won't grant the warranty claim. I had an argument with them over the phone, and they won't bend the rule. My TV is under 5yrs old. Sony doesn't stand behind their product. Software causes the hardware issue, they should not put a warranty time limit for "C" models.

    Nick I have a Sony XBR-55X900F. When I plug it in and it starts up it goes into like a test pattern like sequence. Dark contrast to a light contrast to a RED screen,Blue screen,Green screen and a Checker board screen. I have sound from the factory reset. but screen goes to a test pattern like loop.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  3 роки тому

      Hey John,
      Generally the test pattern is triggered by disconnecting the ribbons from the main board to the T-con board. Once this happens the T-con automatically displays that pattern which is used to confirm the TV screen is in good working condition as well as the T-con board. Generally when this is triggered inadvertently it is after a main board replacement and is an indication that the ribbons were not properly installed or are just not seated exactly as they should and thus not communicating with the T-con. However based on the information you provided it does not sound like the main board was replaced, but that this issue occurred on it's own from one day to the next.
      I don't know if there is a chance this could work, but have you tried the pairing/update of the board with a flash-drive? If not, please check our video linked below on steps for this.

      4 blinks is generally the LED driver. Grounding the BL_error wire can solve the issue. When you state you have black wave across the screen, what do you mean exactly? It is possible your backlight has such a sever failure that grounding out the error pin may not be enough and a full replacement or repair of your LED strips may be necessary.

      The black wave (flutter)I am referring to is the backlight going out from left to right moving across the screen continuously.

    Hi Nick. I have a XBR-75X900F that turned on for a few minutes then turned off. The android logo came on and off twice and then was completely dead. Sony customer support suggested that the power board needed to be replaced. Do you ever see this issue as a power board issue and not a main board issue? Thanks.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  4 роки тому

      Jeffrey,
      I have never seen a power supply do that. Unfortunately their service manuals and troubleshooting systems aren't 100% I would be more inclined to believe you have a failed Main board than a failed power supply. Unfortunately we don't service those, which means we don't have a tone of experience with those models yet, so make sure to take that into consideration when taking my advice.
      Without having a chance to troubleshoot the tv myself, I would put my money on the main board.
      If you have any additional questions or information regarding symptoms, let me know.

      Nick you were correct that it was the main board that had failed. After I replaced both power boards and still had a dead set, I replaced the main board. Found a fix that moved a ground wire on the mainboard to a different position which fixed that issue but, now the LED's at the bottom of the screen turn off and on at different positions and flash. How can this be resolved so that I can have this tv working again? If needed I can provide video proof for reference.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  2 роки тому +1

      It sounds like you have a mainboard failure and will need to either have it serviced or replaced.
      In order to force a reset, you can unplug it from power, and hold down both the volume down and power button at the same time. NOT on the remote, on the buttons on the TV itself.
      Plugin the TV while holding both those buttons down and keep them pressed in until the green light comes on. If you don't see the greenlight within 20 seconds of pressing down those buttons, try again.
      If it still doesn't work then it's because your mainboard is broken beyond being able to be reset or updated and will need hardware to be replaced.
      If you have any other questions, don't hit the reply button but instead write a new comment. I only get notifications on new comments, not on replies.

      Hello,
      The failure you are experiencing is a main board failure. This is a common failure for these models. There should be some modules available for sale on eBay.
      The part number for the main board is:
      A-2094-466-A
      Pro tip, this main board is cross compatible between the following models
      XBR-65X750D
      XBR-55X700D
      XBR-49X800D
      XBR-49X700D
      XBR-43X800D
      So if you find a main board that was removed from any of those models, it will work with your TV set.
      This means if you do a search for the XBR-65X750D and the cheapest main board is $150, then try searching using the XBR-43X800D and you might find someone selling the same board for $85.

      Hello Oreo Cookie,
      The video is listed to be for the 900C and 910C diagnostic, however it can also be used to identify the faults with many other sony boards within the 2015 C models as well as the 2016 D models such as your set 850D.
      An 8 blink error code, just like the video suggest is a software failure. We suggest downloading the newest software available on the sony website and force updating your TV set. You can do this by following the steps in our pairing procedure video which I have linked below:
      ua-cam.com/video/3kYPjIHt8Lc/v-deo.html
      I have set the link to start the video at about 3 minutes since that will be when the software download instructions start.
      If downloading the software doesn't work, then try changing the software file name to upgrade_loader.pkg
      ua-cam.com/video/3kYPjIHt8Lc/v-deo.html
      This second link is to the same video, simply a little further into the renaming of the file section of the video.
      If this still does not resolve the issue, then this would mean the software failure has affected the main board in a critical way which can not be recovered with an update. At this point we would suggest sending the board to our repair service center to be serviced.
      I have linked the repair service listing below:

The red LED error code has gone away but I now have a problem that when I power it ON, the backlight comes on for about 2sec, then I hear a relay click, and the backlight goes out. The power remains on, but there is no picture at all. Any Ideas? What lead to the main board change in the first place was most likely a power arc from an HDMI port over driving that port (I think) - because it failed just after I inserted an HDMI device. Any ideas if I also need to change out the power boards, or does this sound like a ribbon cable problem? Thanks all!

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  4 роки тому

      Check the connector on the power supply board that links the power supply to the main board. One of the pins should be a BL-ERROR pin. Check to see if there is any voltage on it. If your TV is detecting a backlight error, you will see some voltage. If there are no Back-light errors then that wire will read 0 volts and indicate the issue is coming from somewhere else.
      I guess something that would be also very important would be for us to know what the original error code was. That may help us understand what is going on now.

      Pressing and holding for 20 seconds the volume down and power button while plugging in the TV will force a reset. In some instances such as yours it will fix simple software issues. When it comes to hardware issues however this won't work unfortunately.

If that does not resolve the issue, I would then suggest performing a software update. If that still does not resolve the issue, then you will need to either send in your board for repair or find a replacement.
      Please let us know if you have any questions.

      Hello, Kairus1,
      What you are describing is very common and just like the 900C the 900E TV has that exact same symptom which is a main board failure. This is something you would need to send in for repairs.
      Check out our mail in repair and return service linked below for more details:

    for me, my sony xbr65x900c is working just fine... besides the screen flashing black. not even the entire screen though, certain points of the screen go black at completely random times, then come back. I have no clue what to do.

      It sounds like you have LED strip failures. The symptoms you are describing for the LED failure however is not good news in the sense that there is no easy fix. The only way to properly repair the set would be to get the LED strips replaced or serviced and that is a very labor intensive and delicate operation for these sets. I would suggest contacting your local TV shop and seeing if they have experienced replacing these strips in the past and what kind of charges they would have for this type of repair.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  3 роки тому

      Okay, the screen won't come on. Does the backlight come on at all? meaning do you get a glow from the screen? Do you get any audio from the TV set? If the answer is NO to the above the first step I would suggest would be to try a factory reset. You can follow the Factory reset instructions from Sony's website linked below:
      www.sony.com/electronics/support/articles/00159487
      If that doesn't resolve it, then I suggest checking out our software update video which will demonstrate how to update the TV using a flash drive if the set doesn't turn on. The video linked below starts at 3:07 which is where we show how to download the software from the Sony website
      ua-cam.com/video/3kYPjIHt8Lc/v-deo.html
      If that still doesn't work, then we suggest force updating the TV by changing the file name. Further instructions for this will be at the 5:20 times stamp which is linked below:
      ua-cam.com/video/3kYPjIHt8Lc/v-deo.html
      Please let us know if either of these works for you, and if so which one resolved the issue.
      If neither options resolve it, then please let us know as well. In that case, your mainboard has a failure that is severe enough that it will need to have components replaced and will have to be sent in for repair.

      Based on the information we are aware of regarding the 5 blink code the issue could be either the panel, aka the screen, the T-con board, or the BMX board which is your main board. Since you have already replaced the T-con board we would suggest you try replacing the main board next as the Panel is going to be much to expensive to be worth replacing.
      Unfortunately there is not more information or any further troubleshooting that we are aware of for this model as it is not a model that we commonly work with.

      We have been seeing more and more issues lately with the 900F mainboards. We have been fixing a few and what you have sounds like a common EMMC failure that we can fix.
      If you want to give it a try with a used module online, go for it, there are still some cheap ones available out there, however, we have been hearing from customers that they tried purchasing boards first without success, I don't know why but there seems to be a lot of bad mainboards out there, so if replacing the mainboard doesn't work, just let us know and we can always just fix your original.

      Kather, when you say the screen is oscillating, do you mean the screen is shaking/jittering? Do you ever get a blinking code or just the blank screen and nothing after that?
      Because you do get the logo to appear on screen I think it is safe to rule out the screen and T-con board as being at fault. Most likely your main board is the cause of the issue, however since we do not actively service/fix that type of model I can't say I am extremely familiar with it. Based on my experience with other Sony models however I would put my money on replacing the main board.

      @NicksTVRepair  3 роки тому

      Jessica,
      It seems you have a mainboard failure but there are a few tests you can do. I recommend turning the lights off and powering on the set. After the Sony logo and the Android logo go away and the black screen is all there is, does the screen glow at all or is it pitch black?
      Are you able to turn the TV back off or do you have to unplug it?
      Here are a few things you can try to fix it.
      Unplug the TV from power, press and hold the volume down and power button on the buttons on the TV, not from the remote, and while still holding those buttons plug the TV back in.
      Keep pressing those buttons until the TV turns on or the pilot light (standbylight) turns on green.
      This will force a reset on your TV. If you can not get the reset to work, you can also try pairing your TV set.
      Go to the sony support website and download the software for your TV set.
      You can watch more details on how to do that here
      ua-cam.com/video/3kYPjIHt8Lc/v-deo.html
      I have time-stamped it where you want to start watching.
      Good luck

I held the volume button And the power button then Turned my TV on and Waited till I saw the tv Cut on And cut off. The TV cycled a few times and it was fixed. After the Android logo, it goes black and get 3 red blinking lights.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  Рік тому

      According to my information, 3 blinks can be the following:
      Main 5.0V failure [DC_ALERT]
      Audio amp. protection [AUD_ERR]
      Tuner or demodulator I2C No ACK [TU_DEMOD] [Note.1]
      HDMI Switch/Equalizer I2C communication error [HDMI_EQ]
      : Main board, : Speaker
      So most likely the mainboard, with a chance the speakers are at fault. A simple test is to disconnect the speakers from the mainboard and power it up. No more 3 blinks with speakers disconnected then your speakers are the fault. Still get the 3 blinks with the speakers disconnected, then your mainboard is the fault.
