Blue players: "I'm not addicted to Cyclonic Rift/Consecrated Sphinx/countermagic. I can quit anytime I want!" This episode: "Alright, go on then" The quitting:
Love this idea! It's one I've been playing around with for a while with a cycle of mono-coloured decks. Though they didn't really break the colour pie that much - blue was doing counterspells, evasive creatures, and drawing cards; green had big creatures; black was draining life. I think when I was doing it I was playing around with things like mono-blue landfall, mono-white dragons, mono-red card draw, mono-green infect, mono-black flying. So really trying to do something that another colour was known for.
I love how NerdGirl lost a life from bitterblossom and went from 39 to 40 (obviously it was fixed in post reflecting the 38 lives, but it was fun to pick it up).
Ah yes, The classic color pie breaks: Blue ninjas attack damage triggers. Black agro creature sacrifice. Boros agro landfall. And big green dinosaur power matters. :P
“I’m gonna get a big green dinosaur at an absurdly low cost” I was under the impression the point was to play something that ISNT just what that color does.
Super fun game! I cant help but notice, however, that there wasnt all that much color pie breaking going on. The green deck ramped into big creatures consistently, the blue deck ran control, the black deck built value engines and the Boros deck went aggro. Feels all pretty on brand to me.
Big green with storm count. Control with mini attackers getting into the red zone. Black party. Boros land fall. They all had something a little funky when it came to the build. Are they unheard of? No. But tried to mix things up. :)
I don't know, I thought the Boros and Green was different. Its hard unless they agreed to really lower the power level of the cards in their deck, but I thought they did a pretty good job.
I don't care how friendly you want to be, but when bolos's citadel comes down you counter it. Even when a deal is struck, if it means them winning within a turn it's not back stabbing but smart threat assessment.
41:31 Small rules mistake... casting a spell with a storm trigger on the stack doesn’t actually do anything. Storm only counts the spells cast before it triggered.
I have a Boros landfall deck and I’m just going say It’s the most fun deck I own to pilot. I think this is very interesting but could definitely use some more focus/ more powerful synergies I didn’t even see a crucible of worlds in the deck list? Or if your gonna lean into the token making side like this deck did I feel like it needs better ways to grind card advantage something like skullclamp would do this deck wonders. ALS the copy lands like vesuva to copy important lands your opponents play but also stuff like lotus vale to generate even more mana. Cards like (need for speed) are all stars in my list or (glacial crevasses) would completely stop the green deck and the black deck. Not hating the deck was sweet just felt like everyone else was playing fairly high power decks and the boros one was kinda left in the dust.
I think they power their decks down a bit on the channel on purpose. Boros landfall (exactly like this play from behind strategy) is a mainstay in my play group. Quintorus is a fantastic commander/addition for it.
Haunted one is nice, but I think that folk hero is the best choice, giving you access to the many white party payoffs, as well as card draw off all your party creatures
I’ve been debating this as well. Thought about Swordcoast Sailor and going clone route. Stuff like Spark Double and Auton Soldier to get multiple Burakos triggers to drain opponents super quickly.
@@shaylic3795 Red and White are the best warrior colors, Blue and Black are the best rogue colors, Black and White are the best cleric colors, Red and Blue are the best wizard colors. White Blue and Red Black cover the bases the best, for a party build, Maybe guild artisan leaning towards a treasure subtheme?
don't underestimate the power of the agent if the iron throne. sacrificing your treasures triggers the agent, and you can really start to melt people fast. someone in our playgroup has it, and its a nasty deck that gets out of hand fast.
Green focused on Strom count. Blue was built for combat. Borrow land fall. And back party theme. We were not trying to redesign magic, but we were trying to but a twist on what the colors typically are trying to do.
Good game, but none of these decks are "breaking the color pie". Every one of them just did what that color does. Boros deck seemed the most unique of the bunch, but was still aggro when I hit I get positive effect. Mono blue flying men control did what blue does. Mono green stomp is gonna stomp, I understand the cost reduction mechanic, but it does not even require that many spells to reduce it significantly so the vast majority of the deck looked like every other mono green deck. Mono black could have been interesting, but with Bolas' Citadel and the graveyard recursion/sacrifice sub theme it just looked like a standard list with a handful of cards swapped out and the commanders slotted in. This is all fine, but I won't pretend this is what the title purports. Not a bad game, but I do feel the title is misleading. I was hoping for interesting gameplay, but it was all pretty by-the-book. Clickbait title gonna clickbait.
I dont think it was super relevant but Skullspore only doubles power, not toughness Been loving the commanders! Excited to catch up to the channels backlog
Man. Hate seeing all the haters in the comments. I love episodes like this, showing some different flavor to commander. Of course, the color pie is a part of design, so you can’t break design, but I love the creative decks you all brought.
@@DeckedOutEDH Well if it's kingdoms, a sunny day outside on a medieval themed table with costumes sounds fun. Might be hard to do production stuff like setting up mics and cameras tho lol
@SeekerOfSight record outside? I can see it now!! Plan it all out. Invite people. They fly in. The. It rains in Seattle. 😅 wind. There are so many nightmares that are out of our budget. Also people would likely be able to find out where I live... unless we halled everything to a park. Sadly, I think 7 people anything is out of our scope atm. I truly think people think underestimate how hard producing even a small time commander show can be. As is we are in about 75 hours of work per episode. I can not imagine trying to do a sunny day outside with 7 people. The editing might actually kill veggie. 😵💫

Shizo can only give a legendary creature fear. Was that token legendary? If so, I missed that part. If not, then he could've blocked that token and MTGNerdGirl wouldn't have won?
54:32 "it wasn't my game today". You're too modest, CGB, you dominated that game. And this might be worst possible thing I could say, but it turns out you play green better than you play blue. I didn't see that coming.

Maybe I missed something but didn’t he have all the leverage there? If he doesn’t make a deal to swing at CGB then she probably dies. He could’ve tried negotiating a turn of immunity
Incorrect use of the swansong bird. Everyone knows that if someone gives you a bird, that bird's purpose is to hit the giver in the face to teach them their hubris. lol
Overall I feel that Veggie Wagon’s gameplay was not impactful and left much to be desired his choice of colorless, deckless, commanderless, tribal was a poor choice. Commander as a 4-6 player game be cool to see 5 players format maybe with a theme like King knight assassins
We were trying to mix up how the decks functioned, but we still have to use cards of the correct color. Blue is not known for getting into combat with lots of little creatures. Just showing off commanders that took the color off the typical game plan.

How was CGB's deck anything but standard Green? Get big stompy boi for way cheaper than you should, make him bigger, and turn him sideways.
What was the color pie breaks? Each deck did exactly what those colors are supposed to do.

howd all make those huge oversized cards in the background lowkey wanna make one but not sure where to start
We did not make them. They are oversized cards you can win from large magic events
Ummm… because getting mono green creatures out cheaply is out of color pie? 😜
Love to see Cgb at the Pod! (:
Just one small thing, alpine guide has to attack every combat. It is why it is fun in decks that give away creatures.

Bloodsoaked champion: he is cool ! B)
I'm not sure going Rampy Big Dino is breaking green color pie >.>
It is when you use storm to do it.
lmao why was scalding tarn in maldhound's mono blue deck?
Ah yes green commonly know for not using big creatures and blue know for not drawing cards the color pie was never broken
Green storm and blue attacking heavily is not the normal way these colors behave. We were just going for something funky. Not changing Magic.
