Typhoon Angst it isn't just 'not being able to handle pain'. i have a really high pain tolerance, but i also suffer from fibromyalgia and tension migraines, among other things. chronic pain is exhausting. it consumes and destroys your life. and i'm a healthy looking 22 year old, so i understand his difficulty with getting people to believe him. a lot of people suffer in invisible silence.

BME was a huge part of my mid-90s internet experience. It had really important information on healing, safety, shop reviews, etc. that you just wouldn't have had access to pre-internet. I also got to talk online to big names in body modification like Erik the Lizardman. I still have all my piercings; I totally wouldn't feel like myself without them. It was a really great resource.

It's almost easier to win the lottery than find a good doctor that actually understands. I was pitching ball and got hit with by a line drive to my right temple. My skull was fractured and and I had to have immediate surgery to remove the blood clot between my brain and skull. This happened over 20 years ago, and not a day goes by that my head doesn't hurt. Anyways, take care folks and I want to wish everyone nothing but the best! Peace
The military, until last year, has had the Feres Doctrine imposed on them. It states that service members weren't allowed to sue for malpractice. There was a case where a nurse inserted a breathing tube into a member's esophagus instead of his windpipe and pumped the air he needed into his stomach. He suffered brain damage and died. The family wasn't allowed to sue because, according to the Feres Doctrine, he was basically property of the government. This was repeal, after almost 60 years, in 2019. There's no telling how many people and families suffered because of this facet of our broken medical system.

Shannon was a very genuine and nice guy (based on my limited interactions with him). I spent a lot of time on that site as a youth, and even travelled across the country to go to one of the bbqs when I was 16 or 17. Took a damn 38 hour greyhound trip from Winnipeg to Toronto. Also bmezine put out a compilation CD at one point and I had a track on it. One of the first songs I ever recorded and it was the first time I was on a real CD. It was pretty exciting at the time. Good memories.
Same. I used to be really active on bme and specifically iam and Shannon and I spoke pretty regularly. He gave 18 year old me a fair amount of insight and guidance on a lot of decisions that essentially dictated how my life would play out. I never got to make the trip North to meet him in person. Eventually he and I had a falling out and before I ever got to speak to him again I read about him taking his own life. Still hurts.

Man, I remember finding BME when I was a high-school kid and being both disgusted and fascinated at the same time. I very quickly became fond of this site and started mods at 16, and still going.

As a person who lives with chronic pain that is so incredibly depressing to hear what happened to him.
I hope you got the appropriate pain management. My father has it pretty badly thanks to breaking his back on his 20's while participating martial arts. It just caught up with him. He has his good days and his bad days but he seems to have it under control for the most part. Only takes the pain medication when he needs it.

Hey, I was at the 2002 BME Pain Olympics and wrote the now-deleted Wiki page for the BME Pain Olympics. The pic in my thumbnail was taken at one of the BME BBQs. I can answer most questions about this topic, if you’re curious.
What were the motivation to cause so much pain to yourselves?
@@bakermakingbread I can only speak for myself, but on the BMEZine site people have written about their experiences with different things, like tattoos, piercings, etc.
For me, I was a teenager and trying to overcome fears. One of my big fears was pain. Experiencing pain in a controlled manner and on my own terms helped me chip away at that fear. But, when I got my first piercing (nasal septum), I was allowing someone to put that pain on me. That was a LOT of trust, but I came through it a better person.

As far as body modification worst things, since blood is typically involved, the cross contamination of equipment resulting in other people getting infections.
Fortunately, when we did suspensions and such, the equipment and talent was so good that nothing failed, but a lot could go wrong when you’re hanging someone up in hooks in their skin.
Fun Fact: A lot of people actually think Clive Barker came up with the term "Cenobite" for his gruesome characters among the Hellraiser Universe but it's actually a real title referring to a member(s) of a religious/monastic community (ie nuns, monks, priests, etc).

People do not realize that the opiod epidemic has casualties from lack of them as well. I was blind to it until a loved one developed chronic pain and attempted ending things from lack of real relief. My wife is now on hospice and at least has reduced pain through the stage she is in.

Yeah it sucks. I blame the media for pushing the Opiod crisis narrative. It wasn't a problem until white suburban kids started dying from the government's approved heroin. I wish we could have rational conversations on an individual basis about use/misuse of Opioids. A lot of people turn to the black market because Dr.'s are too afraid to get sued.
I became a addict because doctors refused to believe a teenager was in so much pain I needed any thing stronger then asprin. So instead of getting say a hydro for pain here and there I went out and got oxycodone 80 mgs and shit went south fast. It was my choice but my life would no doubt went way different if doctors had gave a shit and not just assumed I was drug seeking because I had weed in my system. The war on drugs has to end, my hometown went from a pill problem to full blown fent laced heroin issue thats dropping bodies left and right and all of it can be traced directly to less pills being on the black market.
ohnoitschris My senior English teacher lost someone close to them because of the opioid epidemic. She started doing the final paper about opioids, we had to learn and present tons of information about opioids. I’m glad kids are being educated about it now

Yeah...Diabolus had a phenomenal mix and overall production quality. Almost sounded like a different band IMO.
There is just something special about Seasons though. It's the overall package that counts though and Seasons has it in spades. It's raw, distinctly voiced, very well written, hooky, it flows lovely, and it's a barrel of laughs...and that lineup was on point. Fuck, they went to Egypt to film the video for the title track. They won.
