Just watched the movie. He absolutely nailed the paladin role.
I think Xenk is Oath of Devotion paladin
He said, "We broke the Edna Mode rule." !!!!!! ❤ him even more now.
It was such a great remark!
What is the Edna Mode rule? 🤔
@@joycediggs4617 Edna Mode is a character from "The Incredibles," the 2004 animated movie about a family of super heroes. Edna Mode provides this family with their updated wardrobe pieces. Her maxim is "NO CAPES!" Edna Mode is a spoof on famous Hollywood costume designer, Edith Head.
His delivery in that clip was excellent. Having seen nothing else of the film, I am now excited to see that character at the very least.
The movie is legitimately good. Doesn't matter if you're familiar with D&D or not.
I always liked the way Tony Robinson put it about Lord Flasheart: "Insufferably dashing."
I love that he's incredibly handsome and rides with the nerdiest group of people in society. Like the actors in The Witcher.
Yeah, I like Colbert too
We're cool like that.
@@arvinbuenaagua5161 Yes, we are.
He's a Nerd though.
@@klaxi100 Damn right he is.
I'm sure he's tired of hearing this but wow, what a beautiful man😍
He was basically the overpowered NPC Guest character that joins the party temporarily.
Truly the DMPC the players have to talk to the DM about because they steal all the moments ^_^
He would make a spectacular James Bond. Best since Sean Connery.
He nails the Oath of Devotion Paladin roleplaying.
I really hope he is the next Bond!!!!!!!!!
He's so pretty.
Forget about the golden ratio. If a man is so handsome he gets Stephen to talk more about him than Dungeons and Dragons - that man is handsome!
Stephen Colbert apparently doesn't know who can heal in D&D, so I'm questioning his nerd cred. The Paladin, Bard, and Druid can ALL heal.
@@steveaustin2686 Stephen said a couple of times that he really only played first edition. Things were simpler back then 😁
@@domaniac9119 I played first edition and Druids were a sub-class of Cleric with Cure Light Wounds access. Paladins have had the Lay Hands ability to heal then as well. IF he is a big D&D nerd like he claims, he should know this.
So it's basically epic npc man the movie? kinda interested now
Mhhmmm Lord Hastings 😍
So charming can't wait to see dnd
He is one of the most beautiful creatures to walk this earth
Makes me think back of the countless hours I spent playing the old Baldur's Gate games, good lord were those ever addictive. I've never played a game where the game can so easily be incredibly hard or with very little effort made shockingly hard, your choices matter intently during character creation in D&D, more so in 2nd Ed though. THAC0 can die in a spike pit though, I remember being that confused grade 7 kid, 'Wha, high numbers are BAD? This game sucks!' but eventually you figure it out, or you get Shanked over and over by Carbos... I'll see myself out.
I wonder if the movie is connected to Baldur’s Gate 3? Have you play it yet?
@@eugenewu9485 Compare the trailers for BG3 and the new D&D movie. I'm pretty sure there are no noteworthy connections between the two.
Same here, BG1+2 were legendary CRPGs. Part 3 will be amazing too. Remember the part where you had to walk over Amaunator's name? Taken straight from Indiana Jones.
I still replay those games! And they still kick my butt, lol.
@@eugenewu9485 the movie is set in the Forgotten Realms and Baldur's Gate is referenced. They spend a lot of time in Neverwinter.
Great interview xx
😅 Thank you God for that beautiful man❤️🙏😁❤️
Yes, this scene reminded me of everything I hate about RP/ D&D, the GM. LOL! I enjoyed how it ended, because that is exactly what I feel like doing when the GM gives rules like this. Also, I was impressed by Rege-Jean for even being able to say these lines so effortlessly.
You mean DM right?
GMs are commonly used in video games. MMOs predominantly.
@@risingforce9291 No, I mean GM for Game Master. In D&D the GM is called Dungeon Master. I say GM because that is how it was introduced to me when I first roleplayed.
@@risingforce9291 You don't play TTRPGs and it shows 😂
You're right, his delivery was great. So crisp. And his accent gives it that extra smoothness ❤
Also, I love how they used the right music for the lead-up to an epic tense bridge-crossing puzzle scene. They really committed to the fake-out 😂
Watching this clip was ❤️🔥🫠🥰
I am glad you enjoyed it 👏🏽
He was soooo good as Xenk. I've never seen him in anything before, but I'm gonna be on the lookout from now on.
(Also Xenk is so pretty?!)
He was excellent 🤗👍
❤👏🏽
I wonder if non D&D people would be able to watch the movie and still follow along?
I think they have intentionally made it so that it will be a good movie for both but have plenty of in jokes for us gamers and nerds. Hopefully, it will be better than the last D&D movie with one of the Wayans brothers, which tried to do that as well and failed at both so miserably it is actually unintentionally funny to watch because of how bad it is. Favorite line from that is "You're pretty smart... for a mage." A mage's primary stat is Intelligence! The writing was so bad and probably by people who never even opened one of the books. I think they have learned their lesson on this new film, just based on that clip that just showed!
It probably will.
Between gamers & the fans of the georgeous actors, the film will do very well!
I've seen the movie and I think non D&D people will have a great time. It makes for a great fantasy movie.
That’s the great thing about adapting TTRPGs for the screen, all you do is remove the dice rolls and you have a solid story which won’t be predictable because the dice could have done anything.
What you get as a DND nerd ends up being understanding what must have happened in the background for what you’re seeing to happen
So, I've never played actual table top DnD, only DnD based video games, so forgive my lack of knowledge, but do paladins not heal? He mentioned the party having no healer then mentioned being a paladin. I know, typically, they're not meant to be the primary healer, but they still have a healer, right?
A paladin might choose to heal, depending on the build. Given no cleric, healing would be a good thing to do. I think I'll be surprised if he even casts any spells though
Paladins have Lay on Hands which can do some pretty decent healing, especially in a pinch, and they Can take low level healing spells like Cure Wounds. so they can heal at times. they're just more well known for their skills as warriors and damage dealers, rather than healers. especially since they dont have a lot of high level spell slots, or access to higher level healing spells like Mass Cure Wounds, or Heal, etc.
Bards and Druids are actually probably better healers that Paladins, in lieu of a Cleric, since they're full casters, and do get those higher level spells. but from what i've seen in trailers and such so far, it seems like Chris Pine's Bard isn't much of a caster in the movie (at all?), and they prob just don't have the Druid Tiefling doing much healing in the movie either. less magical healing is probably better for the story than be perfectly accurate to the mechanics of the game, where healing is Very necessary.
same reason she can turn into an owlbear lol. (which i love)
@@ccorvid Edgin the Bard casts charm person, friends, suggestion, and vicious mockery according to his stat block.
@@mai_komagata yeah I saw those stat blocks! they're pretty cool, I'm just not sure I agree much with him being a D&D Bard™ in the movie lol. he just acted much more like a high charisma based rogue, who can also play the lute a little 😄
The paladin, druid, sorcerer and bard all could have chosen healing spells, but didn't.
Bro you forgot Sophia Lillis plays the Druid!!! AWK-WARD >___< !!!! I know I know, it's easy to be super nervous on late night in front of a live audience and lots watching at home, you could see him stumbling through the other casts characters, but it's still tragic because he got all of them except the Druid!
And Colbert starts off by asking him "what no healers"? Brah, in D&D, Druids are healers, not as good as clerics, but neither are Paladins, the class you play in the movie, who can also heal a little xP
C- Rege, but I still like ya.
I heard Sophia pointed out to you guys "I would probably be a cleric, because that is one thing that this group lacked," she recently shared when the cast were asked their favorite D&D classes. But that's silly, because if your D&D party has a Druid, and a Paladin, you really don't need a Cleric, you'll be just fine. Especially if the Druid just focuses their spells on healing. Druid is the second-best healer in the game behind Cleric. Oh... even the Bards in D&D get a little healing magic. Ok I've said enough.
Cheers, and may all your hits be crits!
I was thinking that, too. A Druid can choose to prepare a lot of healing spells for the day, and Bards and Paladins can learn some of those as well.
@@FarkasAbel91 Druids and Bards have access to Cure Wounds (touch) and Healing Word (ranged), both of which can be upcast if necessary. The Paladin has access to Cure Wounds as well as the Lay Hands ability to heal. Colbert needs to turn in his nerd card. Is he sure he is a big D&D fan?
@@steveaustin2686 As much of a LOTR and Hobbit Fan as he is...he couldn't NOT be a D&D Fan.
@@davidc2838 His knowledge evidently failed him, as 3/5 of the party can heal.
@@steveaustin2686 Exactly! I heard they all played a group session before shooting, guess they didn't play for very long.... like enough to even learn their characters spells and abilities.
Tee Hee We get a great Dungeons & Dragons movie. 😄I just got there stat blocks for D&D Beyond. Very interesting.
I thought there was already a movie more than 20 years ago.
@@NellieKAdaba This one looks to be better.
Watched the movie and it was really funny 😭
sometimes, can hear a few words here and there
I could hear everything just fine even tough my audio was at 30%.
yeah, a french man, being interviewed, while eating a baguette.
In Fear No Evil Cleric Sage is the leader.
I agree, say no to the role of heal-bot.
Page would make a great Sith Lord.
Now get Rege-Jean Page and Skylar Astin in a film or series together because going from one to the other made me realize there would be very fun geeky energy from whatever project they might do.
Oh the Duke of Hastings
Are we just ignoring he said „there is no healer“ lad you guys have a paladin, a druid and a bard
this would have already been out but for: pandemic
He forgot about the druid.
Ummm.... Excuse me! We were supposed to be treated with seeing him walk OFF stage!!!
And consult with the couch!
Stephen's people! Do you hear us!? That'd better show up in "Late Show Me More!"
"I hate to see you leave but love to watch you walk away."
get a drink already
🤣🤣🤣🤣🙄🙄IKR!.!!
i just saw this in australia. that scene must have been cut down. it was much longer in the actual movie. i hope they didnt edit it down internationally. he goes on much longer about the rules in the version i watched.
The interview slots are so short, it makes sense they cut it down.
Definitely longer for the theatrical cut
Would have liked to see a druid.
She is the redhead Tiefling in the trailers, who turns into an Owlbear.
@@steveaustin2686 I'll have to watch the trailer.
In the Paladin's group, there is no rogue, but (as mentioned above) there is a tiefling druid.
I hope his lines in the movie are more easily understood.
John Hoyt talk about Marlon Brando
turn his microphone up can't hear anything he is saying when he starts whispering
Yip audio is a tad off . Still can hear but seems like mic on him was underwater or something
I could hear everything just fine and my audio is at 30%.
Ok Colbert. You are casting doubt on your nerd cred. The party is at least, a Barbarian, a likely Valor Bard*, a Moon Druid*, a Devotion Paladin*, and a Wild Magic Sorcerer. That's 3/5 of the party that can cast Cure Wounds*. The Druid and Bard can also cast Healing Word and the Paladin has the Lay Hands feature to heal. IF, and that's a big IF, Stephen played D&D, it was apparently so long ago, he forgot how it works. Yes, I'm throwing down the gauntlet and he should turn in his nerd card.
Have you NOT seen him with the LOTR and the Hobbit. He's as big a nerd as they come. He doesn't play D&D anymore but you can bet he DID.
@@davidc2838 EVEN in the first edition of D&D, Druids and Paladins could heal. The Paladin's ability to heal with Lay Hands is iconic. How could ANYONE miss that, unless they are not as big of a D&D nerd as they claim.
This is exactly what I was thinking. I played a moon druid for years and was able to keep our party alive and status free just fine without a cleric. Also there are plenty of magic items out there that can assist when it comes to healing.
@@voxel-loves-you I agree. Others have pointed out that Colbert has said that he only played 1e. Still doesn't fly as Druid was a sub-class of Cleric then with Cure Light Wounds and Paladins STILL had the Lay on Hands healing. Maybe he didn't want to embarrass the guest, Mr Page? You think he still would have mentioned that Paladins can heal though.
@@steveaustin2686 That's an excellent point. Stephen, from my understanding, is a gracious person in general and he probably didn't want to put anyone on the spot. Also, the interview is meant to sell the movie, not debate D&D team builds. That's for us. The rabble lol
Is it just me but I cannot understand British people when they talk really fast! The first minute or two of this segment I’m like, “huh? What?” Even with the subtitles my American ear was struggling 😮😩
Someone pls tell aabria than his fave actor used her term lawful boring
This movie would have done a lot better if it's idiot directors didn't come out before release and make it sound like it was gonna be another woke nightmare. There was literally no politics or woke nonsense and it ended up actually being a really good movie. It's just crazy that two idiots running their mouth, performing for the woke crowd could cost a movie realistically half it's box office.
This come back to studio whilst they’re talking is so fkn awkward and rude to the guest.
