    Moss is one of the smartest WR's and best route runners on top of being freakishly athletic. He is the greatest WR talent period. You saw what he could do past his prime with a great QB in NE. Imagine him playing with Peyton Manning or Tom Brady his whole career. You're talking about 200+ TDs and countless other records. The guy could not be covered one on one.

    Moss has great techniques - listed above. Moss’ workout for 49ers: At one point Harbaugh completed 44 of 45 to Moss - Harbaugh calls for Moss to run a post; Moss runs the post but has to come to a stop to catch the pass. Coming back Moss asks: ‘Did you take five or seven (steps) on that?’’ "Harbaugh: ‘I took seven - I should’ve taken five,’ “Very, very astute by him,” That's how high Moss’ football IQ is. NFL WR have 3sec to win vs DB or QB is on the ground. Moss wins & runs like a Gazelle.

    Did you play offense or defense in high school? Many times the defense dictates which pattern you run; depending on the play called against nickel D with a safety high, running from the slot, you may need to run a deep hook, fly or skinny post 7:58...so yes a skinny post, a hook or can be an indication of proper route running 9:00. Sometimes on an out, flag or deep post a simple head fake may be the most important part of the route. 5:57, 9:12. What do you consider a route?

      @One Ace "Get clamped" LMAO. You're a clown. Moss was the 6th receiver in NFL HISTORY to ever post back to back 100 reception seasons. He is the ONLY receiver to ever post 1600+yards 16+ tds in a single season (the only WR in NFL HISTORY to ever average 100 yards and 1td or more in a game for an entire 16 game season). You do NOT get that many catches without being able to run the complete route tree.
      Moss would DOMINATE every single WR you mentioned and every single one of those WR would WORSHIP Moss, who, according to Brian Billick, was double and triple teamed more times than any WR in history. John Lynch said that the Tampa -2 Defense was really crafted to stop Moss because he killed Tampa every time they played Cover 1.
      Moss is the freakiest WR ever and according to Bill Belichick "was the most intelligent receiver I've ever coached." ANY NFL scout would tell you Moss could run the complete route tree. Dig routes, post routes, every route. The thing is...He ran a 4.2 forty at 6'4 almost 6'5, he was known universally as the "SuperFreak" for a reason.

When Moss runs a deep post pattern to beat the corner and jumps over a safety to catch the pass pbskids4000 thinks its a fade because Moss went over a guy to catch the ball. After watching the video you'd think he'd be impressed by Moss' gifts but as is typical of Moss haters they wont even believe their own eyes.They've been playing this game 90+ years ad Moss is one of the best ever

  • @pbskids4000
    @pbskids4000 12 років тому +1

    Please state where I "backpedaled". You say that most of his passes are not deep, but if you had any football knowledge you would realize how stupid of a comment that would be. First, I never said Randy Moss couldn't run routes. I was showing my hate towards the video which was poorly made. Second, Randy Moss isn't a situational player, which means he can't go deep every play. That statement is too wrong for me to disprove in one comment. I'm not even going to bother.

  • @bsdavis011
    @bsdavis011  12 років тому

    The defense often dictates the route especially when you're consistently double & triple covered; just as QB's do WR's must read defenses as well. At 2:02 notice Moss said he read the defense "corner was down, safety was back to the right" and a LB was underneath. Moss was triple covered so he ran the route he needed to to get open and Brady read the same thing...TD. Every pattern run is a route; bottom line: Moss can read any D and run any route as well as & faster than any WR in NFL history.

  • @markeskandar
    @markeskandar 12 років тому

    Of course every pattern is a route, but one will be labelled as a bad route runner, if they cannot run the whole route tree particularly well. I don't think Randy Moss is a bad route runner, but that being said, he doesn't run every route. It would be a waste of his superior size speed and hands. He has more football smarts than people give him and it shows up in parts such as at 2:02, but he is still a down field threat. This video basically shows he runs a fairly limited number of routes ...

  • @vengkong8344
    @vengkong8344 8 років тому +2

    Everyone knows Moss is one of the top 3 greatest receivers ever, the problem is everyone also saw the way he acted in 2004 when Minnesota lost to Washington and lost the division title. He walked off the field before the game was even over and showed absolutely no dignity and class. That's why he was shipped to Oakland and nobody in the league wanted anything to do with him. Dez Bryant is pretty much a poor man's Randy Moss. All the talent in the world when you are "winning", but acts like a bitch in a defeat. There are just as many plays of Moss giving up on his team as there are of him making highlight plays, but all we see the highlights. Moss is and will always be one of the greatest of all time, but his classlessness in defeat is why he'll never be better than Rice. Humility and integrity go almost as far as stats and pure talent.

  • @pbskids4000
    @pbskids4000 12 років тому +1

    I'm not saying wasn't a good route runner. He wasn't bad at it by any means, but if you're going to put a video that is supposed to disprove that he's not just a deep receiver you shouldn't show 60 plays that are him running fades.

    • @bsdavis011
      @bsdavis011  8 років тому

      +BrWithFMJ I don't know how anyone could "technically" run a better route than Moss did at 1:03? Perhaps Moss' smooth gait leads people to believe his routes aren't as crisp as a slower herky jerky WR. One of the greatest gifts a great route runner possesses is actually head movement and as shown in the video Moss excels at it.

    • @BrWithFMJ

      +BrWithFMJ The route at 1:03 was against man to man coverage which Moss did not routinely receive so many of these routes are simply reading the defense and sitting down but nevertheless that still constitutes a route. One of the best in the video is against Washington at 1:32; the Redskins disguised their zone D well but Moss & Brady both read it right and Moss put a brilliant hesitation move/route on the safety for the TD. Many of Moss' routes contain subtle moves and then explosion and in two to three steps he's at full speed.

    The idiot saying Moss can't run every route in the book, there is no WR that can run every route in the book if it doesn't fit within the team's offensive system. Running every route depends on the coverage that's given and the time the QB has to throw. Dumb comment. Post, seam, fade, button hook, flat, go route, stutter step,skinny post whatever it was Moss could do it and make you look like a fool while he was doing it. so what do you think route running is its able to find holes for your qb to throw to and he did this consistently against double teams great double moves and such you dont put up those numbers just by doing 9 routes there has to be a lot more intangibles to it than that he knew exactly what he could and could not do almost as soon as he saw the defensive scheme and was able to execute the route needed that my friend is what you call route running

  • @peterladetto708

    Propaganda piece.
    This video does not demonstrate great route running. Most of these are curved, arched routes. Randy Moss does not have great short space agility which is why he's not great at tight routes that require greater quick twitch agility. You can talk about how smart Randy Moss is all day but you can't say he's a great route rinner because he doesn't have fluid hips and short space agility for that.
    This is why he was so often shut down in the playoffs when higher quality defenses that could rush the passer and took the top of the field away from him he had no answer for that and quite honestly could be taken out of the game mentally once he realized he was not going to have big yardage catches down there field. He was not willing to put in the work it takes against great defenses to consistently work the short and mid yardage routes all day to set up the big play against them.

      I've been trying to mentally contextualize exactly what you just said for years. Perfectly said.
      For example, Randy rarely ever changed levels during his routes. Everything was very upright. He didn't get in and out of his breaks as well as some of the other all-time greats did. He was excellent in slow to fast speed changes, but rarely would you ever see him go fast to slow, to explode again in order to freeze defenders.
      I'm glad someone finally identified that. Good eye. 🤝

      Consistency can be a huge factor for many people. Moss had down years. Was Moss with shit QB's? Yes. Rice never was.
      Many will argue 20/20 seasons of sustained excellence is greater than playing only half your seasons at a level of unmatched and unprecedented excellence.
      I don't feel that way.
      How can # of rings be a determining factor for a receiver? Not only is football a team sport to begin with, but a wide receiver is only playing half the snaps, and doesn't touch the ball on every one he plays like a QB.
      For me, it's production, hands, route running, impact on defensive strategy, and impact on their team, ability to succeed in spite of their team, and consistency.
      For almost all those reasons I give it to Moss. The cover-2 would've stayed dead if not for Randy. No receiver has ever run the deep ball or the end-zone fade like he did. His one handed catches marvel those of Chris Carter (the best hands ever). Moss was the biggest, most dangerous offensive weapon on two of the best offenses ever assembled. Other than Tom Brady (and for arguments sake an ancient Randall Cunningham, and an overrated Daunte Culpepper) Moss hasn't played with anyone of substance at the QB position. Jerry Rice and Michael Irvin had Joe Montana, Steve Young, Rich Gannon, and Troy Aikman respectively.
      Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. At the end of the day, I believe Randy Moss is actually humble enough to be happy that he's the only player people really keep in that conversation with Rice at all.

I find it inconceivable that you would have the temerity to insinuate that you could give Randy Moss pointers on how to run better routes. I could see you comparing Moss' route running to other great NFL WR but for you to critique his "technique"... then u describe Moss as "awkward"? It's obvious your arrogance knows no bounds.

      ONE route? Evidently you didn't watch the video you've commented on. Take a moment and view ONE route at 1:03 and tell me Moss has only ONE route in his repertoire. The fact that Randy Moss was great does not demean the greatness of Jerry Rice.

      really? you're going to sit here and talk route running between Moss and Rice?
      at 1:03 it would be normal for a DB to bump him down by the goal line
      NO ONE IS SAYING Randy Moss wasn't great.
      To me he's the 2nd best WR ever
      BUT
      he's not on Rice's level
      NO ONE COMES CLOSE
      Not in hands, not in route running, not in production, not in big games, not in resume or accomplishments, not in durability NOTHING!
      you have guys who are bigger, taller , faster
      that doesn't mean they are better
      I mean do I really need to post the production between the 2? it would be embarrassing.
      & Moss got to play with Brady at a time when the rules allowed for these huge numbers at age 30
      at age 30 Rice was still dominating especially under mugging rules

    to fake outside first to turn his db around then bat the hands to get inside or just when to slant right away. Very good at faking his outs as ins and make smooth precise cuts (see his offseason video for the 49ers) You have no valid points. A lot of wrs and dbs have speed you dont get over 900 catches on speed alone especially when a lot were shorter passes. He ran routes as good as anyone, including Rice

    Randy Moss retired at the age of 35 yrs old and 356 days
    Jerry Rice went on to play 118 games MORE after that age
    what are the #s if they both retired at the same age
    This INCLUDES Playoffs as well. Complete Totals.
    Games
    Moss: 233
    Rice: 214
    Receptions
    Moss: 1006 (4.31 per)
    Rice: 1195 (5.58 per)
    Rec Yards:
    Moss: 16, 269 (69.82 per)
    Rice: 18,527 (86.57 per)
    TDs
    Moss: 166
    Rice: 176
    Rushing Yds / Rush TDs
    Moss: 173 yds / 5 TDs
    Rice: 653 yds/ 10 TDs
    Pro Bowls
    Moss: 6x
    Rice: 11x
    All Pro
    Moss: 4x
    Rice: 10x
    Super Bowls
    Moss: 0
    Rice: 3 with an MVP
    keep telling me there's a comparison outside of debating Speed and being able to jump higher.
    This aint the fukin combine people.
    & for anyone who wan't to bring up QBs
    Moss's resume and impact on the game would be complete shit without Brady and the rules that have been put in place to enhance ALL passing and receiving #s
    Rice was better as a 40 yr old on the Raiders than Moss in his prime years.
    & if we went game by game debates
    Moss is twice as likely to have a bad game than Rice
    and Rice is twice as likely to have a great game than Moss
    no comparison stop making it
    Moss is amazing
    not on Rice's level
    no one is

      Moss was the better receiver. Moss was faster. Had better hands (and that's with the stickums rice used). Ill edge route running to rice (but I think its even). Moss high points jump balls better.. I understand, from a stats point of view, why you say rice is better (its like saying emmitt is better than Barry, and we all know Barry was the better rb). But with just the eye test you can see moss is better. He changed how defenses played the game.

    • @xaviervega468
      @xaviervega468 7 років тому

      The only thing Moss fanboys can come back with is "Moss was taller, Moss was faster, Moss jumped higher" All related to athletic ability. But when it comes to actual football skill, there is almost NOTHING Moss does better than Rice. Route running, reading the defense, gaining yards after the catch, converting 3rd downs, ALL of those things go to Rice. The only football related thing Moss does better is catch the deep ball.
      You put Moss's mind in Rice's body and Moss dosen't even make the Hall of Fame. You put Rice's mind in Moss's body and Rice gains AT LEAST 30,000 receiving yards.
      Your Barry Sanders comparison dosen't work at all because after 10 years a piece Barry smoked Emmitt in every stat except TD's. You compare the first 10 years of Moss's career to Rice's, and Moss beats Rice in NOTHING. Matter of fact..
      Moss after 10 years- 154 games 774 catches, 12193 yards, 124 TD's , 79 yds a game, 15.8 ypc
      Rice after 10 years- 156 games 820 catches 13275 yards, 131 TD's, 85 yds a game, 16.2 ypc.
      You can believe what you want, but reality dosen't care. And the reality is that Rice was better plain and simple.

And all you little rice cakes act like it didn't happen. Moss changed defensive schemes (no such thing as cover 1 against moss). Moss made the game easier for the whole offense. There were only 22 plays on this entire video that showed Randy Moss executing routes. The other 60+ were all fades (deep) and some screens.
