Great video, really liking the sound of the G50. Any chance of getting you to do a comparison of the D45 and the G50 like you did with the D20 and G20. Would definitely be interested in your take on those two.
Spooky. On high gain I immediately thought to myself the 7 barked, as a way to describe the difference. Then a while later you said "it has more mid bark". I'll take that as an ear+vocabulary win. 😂 It's hard to describe sound in a universally agreed language, but bark did seem to sum up the essence of the difference.
The 740 has a bit more clarity with crunch and more sparkle clean like some Fenders. Both sound great though. I have a D-20 and prefer the 740 because it sounds somewhat alike.
@@ShawnTubbs Can the G50 dial in some fender chimy tones? I play at home- not super loud. Would you recommend the G50 or the new Revv Dynamis D40? I like the G50 has 3 channels and more front panel options. More is better.
@@MOAB-UT The D40 is more "fender" in nature for the cleans. The G50 sounds more modern but you can get a really nice clean tone out of it. The G50 in my opinion sounds better at "bedroom" volumes. They are really different-sounding amps overall.
@@ShawnTubbs Thanks. The G50 seems the most versatile. If you could only have one- do a lot of cleans with pedals, and some SRV type, Texas Blues (not much metal) and some 80's Rock ballads, which amp would you buy. Also, what about the older G20?
I have a Generator 7-40 MKII but wish I also had a purple channel. I do have the G3 pedal but not sure how it compares to having the purple channel in the amp.
Shawn to me the 7-40 has more high mid bark and is clearer. the G50 sounds like it has more low midrange and kind of muddy to me with less drive. I think the 7-40 will cut more
Probably best to try and acquire both.
And a gen 120p just incase.
Smart thinking my friend!
The 740 sounds like it has a boost in the 6k compared to the G50. They both sound usable. Nice demo!
The clean channel on each are very similar, I hear a bit more treble & mid on the G50 crunch channel. Both sound good in their own way.
Right on, thanks for watching!!
Cleans, to me, are pretty identical. 7-40's a bit warmer. Green channel sounds fantastic on both lol...
Yeah, I think the cleans are really close as well. Thanks for watching!!

Haha, right on!!
Nice tones! What cab are you driving?
Bogner 2x12. I used a Royer R121 and Shure SM 57 mic combo.

Thanks so much for chiming in!

On the high gain channels the 7-40 sounds like it has a wah kinda mid range compared to g50.
It's a more pronounced mid for sure.

That G3 is really accurate to the Purple channel.

Both amps are incredibly versatile but the 7-40 does have more mid punch than the G50 with the tone stacks dialed to "noon".
G50 all day. Something about the 740 turned me off sonically.
Right on, thanks for watching! They're different amps for sure.
@@ShawnTubbs hey Shawn did you used to hang at Mesa Hollywood in the 2000s? I was friends with John and Jimmy and that was a hang spot for me.
@@jameslugo Hey James, yes I did every once in a while. Jimmy and John are awesome!
