Weird Al may get lots of recognition for being a comedian, but I think he's never gotten the recognition he deserves as a musician. He parodies so many different styles, and does them all well. He can rap. He can rock. He can do pop. He can do ballads. It takes a really TALENTED musician to jump around between so many very different styles... and still do it well, as Al does.
He totally gets his props as a musician, the music industry considers it an badge of honor when he parodies their song. They wouldn't do that for someone who makes "haha funny songs".
I had a friend who met Donny and he's a pretty cool and chill dude. In fact, he was like "My sister would die if she knew I was talking to you" and Donny made him call her so he could talk to her. She immediately called me and fangirled for an hour. Hee This version of Donny in this video seems so damn natural for him if you've ever had a chance to even be near the dude.
There's a video Al posted that is just the whole song with the two of them dancing in front of a green screen. Search ""Weird Al" Yankovic - White & Nerdy (Take #1)" and you'll find it. It's gold.
Seriously, man. There's a 29 second section he does in a single breath - 123 words according to a word counter I fed the lyrics into. Pretty sure that's 254 words per minute.
Love the fact that you have a reactor who is ABOVE a certain age group, who when someone like Donny Osmond pops up, they not only know who they are .... but WHY having them in a video is so funny.
"Weird Al" and his band are incredibly talented; I've seen them live a few times and they're all amazing musicians. I don't think enough people give them credit for the skill it takes to operate in multiple genres within a single 90-minute concert. They're all incredibly humble individuals, too.
Weird Al has excelled at his craft to the point where his lyrics are often remembered over the original ones. And he has longevity. Been at it for more than 40 years. 🐐

I met Donny a few years ago at the place where I work, around after the time that he and his sister Marie ended their long running Vegas show. He came and bought a lawn mower, which I helped him pick out. He couldn't pick it up himself because he had back surgery a few weeks prior, so I put it on a cart for him. We chatted for around five minutes afterwards where he was very personable and asked me about myself. He never really made it about himself. Really, really nice guy. Al picked Donny Osmond because he was the "whitest music artist he could think of." Donny couldn't fly to California to do the video with Al, so he flew Al out to his Utah music production facility, which is where they did his portion of the video. There is even a full, uncut video dedicated to one whole take of the song where Osmond 100% improvised his dance moves. Al said he made a conscious decision to not look behind him while they were performing because, if he had, he would have busted out laughing and the take would have been ruined.
I think you would love his parody of "Living in America" called "Living With A Hernia". James Brown loved it and even loaned Al his costume and backup band to recreate it. My favorite of all his parodies.
Another great Al original style-alike is Dare to Be Stupid, a song in the style of Devo that was described by the lead singer of that band as 'the best Devo song that Devo never sang'...

Great reaction, and like others I was happy you recognized Donny Osmond. BTW, on Weird Al's channel there is an alternate take of this song which is just Al with Donny dancing the full time with no background. They probably used it for flexibility in creating extra scenes for the official video.

My favorite thing in this, if you sync the videos for this and riding dirty, the "station" in "their quite stationary" and "Playstation controler" line up perfectly. As well as the "pop pop" in the second verse, lines up in both.
You should listen to some of his original songs too. One More Minute (top-5 breakup song) and You Don’t Love Me Anymore are two great examples. PS. I second checking out Hardware Store.
I was a kid, probably 10 years old and I picked up the Dare to Be Stupid album on cassette for like $5. Popped that sucker in my walkman and was listening while my mom was shopping. One More Minute came on and made me laugh so hard I collapsed. I think that was the first time I ever cried from laughing. Had to wait to get home before I could show the brothers and sisters and they all died laughing as well. Mom? She was bothered by the "violence." 😆

I love me some Weird Al. Been watching your channel for the past month, btw, and decided to check out your music for the first time. Love your stuff dude! Made a new fan out of me.
Weird Al is amazingly talented. He can play accordion, still does lives, can rap, sing... it's awesome. Check out his song "Germs", it's a parody/pastiche of Nine In Nails, there's a decent live version out here on youtube. I've been a fan of his since the early 2000s, and remember his album Running With Scissors (which has the infamous Saga Begins) was one of the first CDs I bought. Haha. Good memories. Of his newer stuff Tacky (a parody of Happy), and Word Crimes (a parody of Blurred Lines), are probably my two favourites. If you ever get the chance to see him live, take it, it's worth it.
Weird Al's flow is always crazy when he raps. I'm still blown away with his verse in Epic Rap Battles of History when he was Issac Newton [Issac Newton vs Bill Nye].
When I was in my 20's, there was a thing popular in my white & nerdy friend circles called 'nerdcore hiphop', and my favorite artist back then was a dude going by MC Frontalot, with songs like "Zero Day" and "First World Problems' or 'Bizarro Genius Baby'- I'm no big rap expert, but he always super amused me with his sense of humor and flow talking about things and experiences my nerd self was more familiar with. Might be a fun one for you to give a shot and thoughts on. He even had a documentary about being in the nerdcore scene called "Nerdcore Rising" that I probably still have on DVD lol

The thing that makes Weird Al Music Videos so special is because he REALLY sells how NATURAL they look. He really does the work to look how to organically fit the style of whatever Scene he's in. Whether from Mega Nerd to Hip Star to High School Musician. That's not even getting into being able to take a deep dive into a song to figure out what makes the song truly amazing, in addition to creating INCREDIBLY clever Parodies via Lyrics. The Essence of these songs shines through really well, and it's something I hadn't really processed until you commented on it!
I was today years old when I happened across your channel for the first time, Krizz (yeah that's you and Tech in my profile pic, Chilliwack BC 2011) and I plan to catch up in short order. This was the best possible video with which to discover your UA-cam presence, as I love Weird Al as much as I love you and have seen you both live (the White and Nerdy t-shirt looks like the Wonder read logo, it's a kick!) Thank you. I am so happy right now
"Action Figure" cameo was Seth Green (mostly known for Family Guy and Robot Chicken) and "power strip" lady was a stand-up comedian Judy Tenuta who would often use an accordion on stage.
I love seeing you laughing and really enjoying the video and brighting your day! This is definitely as you say, "getting closer to the classics" as you react to my childhood
I was listening to this song today at work. Weird al is my favorite artist. I know his songs are parodies. But he is so good at what he does, he has trascended the decades and all genres.
I like a whoooooole lot of music. But when I really think about it, if I were stranded on a desert isle, and was only allowed to listen to one musician for the rest of my life, it'd be Weird Al. It's not just that he's an amazing musician... you just plain can't beat that RANGE. The man can do pretty much anything!

Al approached Donnie, saying the he was the whitest person he could think of. Donnie jumped at the chance. These dudes have an amazing sense of humor

Friggin Krizz is on UA-cam doing his own thing for real. I love the future, subbing for sure
There's a video where Donny is talking about One weird Al called him about this and he said oh hell yeah
Look for the green screen version. It's hilarious what Donnie osmond does.
You want to see BAAAARRRS?! check out Weird Al as Sir Issac Newton on Epic Rap Battles of History
I was today years old when I happened across your channel for the first time, Krizz (yeah that's you and Tech in my profile pic, Chilliwack BC 2011) and I plan to catch up in short order. This was the best possible video with which to discover your UA-cam presence, as I love Weird Al as much as I love you and have seen you both live (the White and Nerdy t-shirt looks like the Wonder read logo, it's a kick!)
Thank you.
So true!
I was listening to this song today at work. Weird al is my favorite artist. I know his songs are parodies. But he is so good at what he does, he has trascended the decades and all genres.
Man, I hope you get to his song "Tacky". It's so catchy!
Yo that takes me back. I grew up listening to Weird Al. He is absolutely hilarious and kinda a genius when it comes to parody.😂😂😂
